My aunt referred us to Shaggy Paws for their incredible work and kind demeanors along with the cleanliness of the place, and she wasn't lying nor were the reviews online. I spoke with Ali on the phone who was a complete pleasure, then Kimmy and Glen (owner) at the salon. Super humble and kind down to earth people that you want to spend a weekend bbq with. You can feel the warmth of their welcome upon entering and im not overreacting. They made me feel super safe leaving my pup with them. I get my dog's nails cut here. Usually in a rush and I arrive having not called ahead but they'll cut nails right away, usually a 5 minute stop! Occasionally I get my dog washed here and when she's blowing her coat they'll also get out all the fur barely hanging on, leaving her shed free for 1-2 weeks depending on the time of season. Go somewhere else. Starting with hundreds of dollars spent at the vet post-grooming. I picked up my dog and immediately noticed a fresh cut on the tip of his left ear. I also noticed that he was flopping his ears nonstop. I called the groomer when I got home and she said all of this was common due to the "new feeling" post ear shave. Days go by, and my dog just seemed so uncomfortable, so I took him to the vet and it turns out he needed special treatment on the cut likely caused by a razor, and he had an ear infection. The vet stated there was what looked like more razor blade cuts and dried blood even deeper in the inner ear, and excessive water in the inner ear. The vet ended up advising against a groomer that is shaving so deep in the inner canal in general. Ended up being a $200 vet bill with medications. Next frustration was the haircut overall. I clearly stated to not shave my dog. The female groomer that worked on him showed me a picture of a doodle haircut option and I told her that was perfect. She called me shortly after I dropped him off and said she would have to shave his ears and feet due to matting, but that she could trim/cut the rest of his fur because there was no other matting, and that everything else passed some sort of "comb inspection". I said that was fine and I understood. I picked him up when he was done and he was completely shaved everywhere. It was not what I asked for, nor what I was told during the phone call while she was actively working on him. Moreover, it looked patchy and sloppy. When I asked what happened and why she shaved him, she did not have an answer, and seemed to hot potato the question to another worker who was there, and ultimately I got no answers. I walked out paying over $100 for this. (Of note, when I picked up my dog, I was told my dog was calm and did not flinch at anything, so still to this day I don't understand the reason behind this complete shave). Attaching pictures of my dog after this groom vs a groom done by another company earlier this year to show comparison in how bad this cut was. I tried calling several days in a row to speak with the Shaggy Paws owner about my disappointment in all of this and he would not call me back, which was also frustrating. When I finally got ahold of him, he was rude and unprofessional. He told me to fact-check with the vet again about what they inspected and to just follow up with the vet about any concerns post ear grooming. We talked about what I was looking for and they were very sweet with my nervous girl. I received a phone call informing me that she needed some matted shaved off behind her ears and I said that was fine. Picked her up and she looked GREAT! So foolish of me, but they managed to squeeze Diva in. I didn't give much instruction other than "puppy cut", but then the groomer/receptionist started softly pulling Diva's back hair to ask about how long I wanted her groomed to. Diva came back beautiful. Her hair was exactly the length we discussed, but the scissor cutting of her paws, face, and tail were exquisite. Mats? Gone. And without shaving or clipping. We have taken our long haired chihuahua here several times in the past. The staff is really nice and all the dogs seem really happy while they are waiting to be picked up. I was under the impression that a groomer would know the most appropriate way to trim the hair for different breeds. Our dog's hair was frequently cut way too short, and the parts that are supposed to be left long were cut as well. This was my first time using a groomer, so I didn't really know what to expect. It would be wise to bring a picture in of other dogs with similar cuts if you want to make sure it is cut properly. After using a different place, I see such a big difference in cutting and styling techniques that I didn't really understand previously. If you are just getting a bath, nails, ears, etc then it's a great place. If you have a dog with more styling needs, just use caution. read more

We checked Shaggy Paws reviews on Google reviews. There were only two but both were positive so we decided to give them a try. We have a pug that sheds like crazy and wanted to have him shaved to curb all of the fur that floats around the house. We brought our pug Willy to them today. Debbie greeted us and made us feel comfortable that they were going to take good care of our him. They told us that they would call us when he was ready for us to pick up. A bit later we received a call saying he was ready. When we walked in we saw him in one of the staging cubicles sitting proud and happy. We paid for the grooming which was very reasonable. Shaggy Paws does a great job! The staff is very professional and very accommodating to any special requests. I have a shitzu mix and a Great Pyrenees, they do an excellent job on both. My dogs come home far less stressed than from other groomers I have tried. It's nice being able to see them working on the dogs, I'm always leery of places where you can't see what's going on. Under new ownership and the experience is no longer up to par. Brought my two medium size dogs there and one came back with an actively bleeding foot pad and did not appear to be trimmed at all. Six hours In a kennel and my pup was scratching to get out and injured himself. The prices increased and I was charged for the bleeding uncut dog. The other dog was groomed but not very well. This will be a shocking and Horrible review!!! Continue..On October 29, 2018 I took my 9 lb Pomeranian to this groomer.. The owner had just bought the shop from a well established fine groomer. i didn't know that.. He destroyed my dogs heavy beautiful Pomeranian show quality coat. It has yet to recover.. He shaved the pups undercoat down to his skin and left some top hair to hide what he had done. My dog was tied on a table for 5 hours. I had asked for a bath trim and brushing!! Never would I have imagined what he did!! When I finally realized what he did I called, yelling and cursing, I'll admit but he never even apologized or offered my money back!..I took my traumatized baby to his vet who was appalled. She told me it may take a year to grow back and Cruz, my Pom, then got very sick which I believe was a result of trauma.. We have been sick over this. His skin was left bright pink, bruised and nicked..What kind of irresponsible, person did this.. Is he even a groomer and why in the world did the previous owner sell to him?? All I can say if you love your pet DO NOT Go TO Shaggy Paws in Lake Zurich!!!! Yesterday I saw another dog that was cut by them down to the skin!!!! If you want more information just email me.. I was a customer for 6 years. Loved this place. But recently ownership changed. With new ownership experience changed also. Three times in a row my dog was there for 5 hours at the time. Keep in mind i had a set appointment every time. Asked the owner to make sure this does not happen again. Poor dog was sitting in the cage for 5 hours. Had an appointment last Wednesday for 9 am. Brought my dog in. Called after couple hours to make sure my dog was eady and owner said 3 more hours. Crazy. He is overwhelmed and overbooking appointments. We decided to check out this place after the reviews on Yelp and Google. We brought our puppy here for her first grooming experience and the owner made us feel really comfortable about leaving her there. Overall, we're happy with the grooming job during our visits - she came out looking fine and wasn't traumatized by the experience. The cost is reasonable (both for a puppy cut and normal grooming). Also, it's convenient that it's located so close to where we live. And, I like that they keep records of your dog and what we've done in the past. They also give you a "get $10 off your 6th groom" frequent customer card (and if you forget to bring it with you, they'll give you credit for it the next time you come in). Overall, we were satisfied, but we had a few issues: First, it took us a couple of weeks to set up an appointment. I actually thought the place closed down b/c no one answered when I called for 2 weeks during business hours (the owner must've been on vacation or something). Anyway, once we got a hold of her, it was very easy to set up an appointment, and they're very accommodating about scheduling you in. Another issue I had was when we took our pup there for her second grooming, they missed trimming her nails. Finally, they say it'll take longer than it usually does (said it'd be 2-3 hours and it only took an hour) - which isn't a bad thing but you'll want to plan for this. read more

I heard from a friend at the dog park that Shaggy Paws had shaved a nipple off of her Labradoodle during a grooming, but we had also heard positive things from other neighbors, so decided to give them a try. Although I was wary of the close quarters and the number of dogs confined in the small space, I decided to try them out. The first couple of groomings went well enough. Our final grooming at Shaggy Paws was a mess. I made an appointment at 9:30 am. 3 1/2 hours later I became concerned and called to check in. I was told "it's busy and he won't be ready until 3 pm". Quite a long time for my guy to sit in a confined space..... I will not soon forget the anguished look on my dog's face when I arrived to pick him up. Poor guy relieved himself in the parking lot right outside the shop's door and then gulped down two bowls of water when he got home. To make matters worse, the staff attempted nonsensically to justify the wait, explaining that "appointments don't really mean anything" and they make appointments because "they have to start somewhere". I was also counseled that in the future if I make a later appointment, "he won't be sitting in there as long". It's apparently LIFO versus FIFO for FIDO at Shaggy Paws. The folks are nice enough to humans, but it became clear to me they're trying to cram as many dogs through as possible to maximize their revenue and don't really care too much about the comfort of their canine patrons. Despite the sweet doggy bandanna included with every grooming, I won't be going back to Shaggy Paws. My guy would never forgive me. read more

I've seen the owner yell and belittle her employees. Ive heard of staff complaining of not getting lunch breaks. I just brought in my large, long haired dog who was shedding badly, and they did a very nice job on her too. The dogs seem happy and well taken care of.
