My absolute FAVORITE gun shop. Have always been nice and very knowledgeable. Sometimes I even go to just talk! My mom recently came to visit and we went to the shop to help her figure out the right pistol for her. (They found it) If military surplus rifles are your thing make sure to check the used gun rack!!! I bought my Mosin-Nagamt M91/30 from there. Also check their ammo rack they have M2 Ball 30-06 for your M1 Garand, 7.62 x 54R, .303 British and more!!! Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

I hesitated doing business with this store because of all the negative comments. I visited after calling several gun shops because this one could get the S&W Equalizer sooner than the others. I made the nearly one hour drive ready to deal with any negativity, but there was none. The shop was professional, knowledgeable, and courteous...during the paperwork and answering questions I had. The weapon came in when promised and I was notified. I took my daughter there weeks later to get her weapon and got the same treatment. In fact we had very enlightening conversations. I am Black, and from experience, can pick up on when establishments don't want to work with you. I dealt with the owner mostly, but a couple of times when the owner was out, I got the same treatment. I attempted to purchase a rifle from this business. After waiting 5 months (payjng for the rifle in full) I went to the store only to be insulted and degraded by one of the clerks the owner himself. The clerk actually gave me the middle finger when I requested a full refund and the owner threatened to call the police if I didn't wait outside while he processed my CC refund. After the refund was processes he indicated he would still receive the weapon and would give me a call to see if i was still interested. I told him to shove the rifle up his A** and left. I am glad so many others experienced this rude, horrid place. I was beginning to wonder if it's me, but I guess it's just that JERKS run gun shops! I was in there once a few weeks ago with my husband, and I was surprised how rude and unaccommodating they were, but I figured they were just busy. Today it was far less crowded, and I went to buy a $1500 gun. One guy ignored me - then the other said someone would be right with me - then they BOTH proceeded to help people who came in the store AFTER me. Uncool. I'll find someone else who wants my $1500. I went there looking for a gun to buy. The owner of the store was extremely rude and abrasive. For no apparent reason, this guy had a chip on his shoulder; this guy appeared to have a serious temper problem. I turned and just thanked them for their time and left. I came here to purchase a present for my boyfriend. I had an idea of what he wanted but knew little about that options available. Not only did the guy show me all my options, he wrote them all down for me. When I came back he let me make payments on my selection. I had a good experience here but I can understand why others might be peeved. The older gentleman only helps one person at a time. Would not allow any customers in the showroom and was not respectful of Federal ADA guidelines for handicap accessibility and accommodation. Nice enough physical on site selection of guns and ammunition, but definitely overpriced. After comparing the Gun Center's pricing to 3 other local Gun Shops I found the Gun Center to be the highest. Also the owner Bill (usually) on site sitting at his perch by the door, is the most customer un-friendly owner that I have ever come across. He rules his little kingdom with an iron fist and heaven forbid you should ask a naive question or suggest a too low offer on a trade in. If I was allowed to give 0 stars I would. brought my 870 in to have the dimple removed so it could accept a magazine tube extension. When I walked in I asked the man behind the counter if I could drop the gun off for the gunsmith. instead of leaving it to the gunsmith, he decided to run a large punch through the magazine tube to remove the dimples and at the same time stretching the threads. the follower would no longer stop but instead fly into the receiver. his fix was cranking down on the new extension and sending me on my way with a live round in the tube magazine. upon return to speak with the manager I was told I would be responsible for the cost of all repairs and that I should not be allowed to own a firearm. read more

Wow! I don't know why my experience was so different than (seemingly) everyone else's but, I think Kevin is about as knowledgeable and forthright as anyone I've dealt with lately. The fact that I kinda already knew what I was looking for, combined with an extensive previous firearms background, probably had something to do with it but, I got GREAT service. If you're in the market for a firearm, you'll find few places with a better in-stock inventory. Yes, the prices are a little on the high side of full retail, which is the only reason I won't give The Gun Center five stars. I definitely appreciated the guidance thru the MD HQL process, though - http://mdsp.org isn't the most user-friendly site - and the satisfaction of knowing that I'm buying from people who know what the heck they're selling. That's worth a couple extra bucks to me. My advice to potential buyers is do your homework before walking into ANY gun shop without a clue - because I kinda get the impression that's what may have happened with one or more of the previous reviewers who rated The Gun Center only one star. I purchased an Ar15 that was "on sale" for $1200 down from $1600. Well after purchasing it I realized the gun can be had for $6-700 all day online. I bought a glock 27 here a month ago. I was told by the person who sold it to me, it would be 3 weeks or so before the paper work would be back. I called last week and got no answer so I left a message. Never got a return call. I called back today and was met with the most rude interaction with a company I have ever had. The tone of the person was arrogant and obnoxious. He basically laughed at me and talked down to me saying the paperwork wouldn't be in for some time. Then I was told not to call back and check anymore, they would call me. I am a Deputy Sheriff and have never been talked to this way before... Not even by criminals. They are price gougers.They wont talk to you if you want to order a firearm. After the gun panic of 2013 is over, I don't suspect that they will be in business much longer. My husband went in and purchased a gun...no assistance in filling out the state application....paid for it in full and waited almost 2 months because they do not send the applications as they recieve...only when they feel they have enough to do so. My husband called to check on the status and was told they sold the gun he had paid for already and he needed to reapply AS HE HAD LIED on his application. His application came back on hold due to a question from the state. The Gun Center never contacted him at all to speak with him, they just sold the gun and held onto our money. It took almost 3 weeks with numerous phone calls as all staff said ONLY the owner can issue a credit back on the credit card...yet they had sold the gun a month earlier. Ended up, that we had to have the Frederick City Police make an appearance for us to get the money back accusing them of theft of money for no goods recieved...and the "hold" placed on my husbands application was completely administrative (our last name is Smith) and resolved with no problems AND NO LIES as they accused my husband of. RUN from this place...horrible, arrogant and borderline criminal dealings...taking money and selling the goods prior to refunding. STAY CLEAR. read more
