I've never bowled here, but it looks like fun. Service has always been good, and that's my hallmark of a good beer bar when you can actually get beer served to you. A lot has changed since I last came here. There's an acarde feel to this place. I love all the pinball machines that are here. I love that it is 21 and over! No kids are allowed which is nice for a change. They have fooseball here as well board games. What we played was BIG card uno, connect four, would you rather and crazy eights. Sadly, I did not win this time around. We did order the food platter which was really good. It came with Pretzels bites with hot dogs, cheese rolls, spring rolls and chicken strips. The service was very friendly here. The security was really on top of people showing their id. I wonder if they have a teen night here. I do want to go bowling again one day. I think its cool they have a little bowling alley in the back of the place. I'm not sure what the prices are now. But I recommend coming here with a group and getting a booth. The Gutter was just a fun experience!! My friends and I went there to hangout. I love how spacious and cozy it felt there. The drinks were good priced and they had a ton of board games to play which we loved while we waited on the queue for bowling! If you want to bowl, you go to back-ish across where you pick up food & grab a ticket. You'll be able to see what number they're up to so while you wait you can play games and hangout! Cold nights in NYC...go bowling! The Gutter is a small bowling alley in Long Island City a short ride from anywhere in NYC. Our occasion was a birthday party and 10 of us reserved 2 lanes for 2 hours. We had a blast. The staff was all great, friendly, and helpful. TV's had college football playoffs on, bar served good drinks, and we were allowed to order pizza from another provider who delivered to us and we brought our own birthday cake. Took off one star as the lanes are little worn but in reality that is what makes it fun. None of us are pro bowlers and it was all about cheering for strikes and booing for gutter balls! Couple of us scored over 100 and there were a few strikes in a row! Call ahead to reserve your lane/s. Shoes are provided and there are plenty of bowling balls on the racks to choose from. The Gutter is the perfect place for some bowling if you're looking for a dive bar-esque, lowkey spot. They have a pretty sizeable seating area for the bar and food which is super nice, I've never had to stand when I come here. There was a special deal on hot dogs for football game days so they were only $2! Their normal price of $8 is fine too. They are decent hot dogs and have a wide variety of interesting combos so there'll be something for everybody. For the actual bowling--they are walk-in only (i think except for large parties where you can book a reservation in advance). On a saturday night at 5 PM for a group of 5 people, we waited around an hour and a half. So come early to put your name down then drink some beers while you wait. They get docked one star because the machines that keep score are not the most accurate, a couple of times they missed some points that we got. We are not hugely competitive about bowling though so it wasn't an issue for us. Overall I really love this spot and it is nice to have in my pocket when trying to think of an activity to do with friends. read more

Pretty good spot to hang out during covid. They have a lot of outdoor seating and I believe their bowling alley was open when we last went but that was indoor dining was still a thing, so it might be closed now. They have a decent selection of beers and they are somewhat reasonable priced. I guess there are a lot of craft breweries in the area and their prices match with around what the breweries are charging as well. They make you buy a hot dog per person when you come - which is about $3 a person, for a pretty standard water dog, but at least it's just one hot dog for the entire time you are there so that's OK I guess? They are pet friendly so if you have a dog, feel free to hang out with him / her outside, but the outdoor area is pretty gravelly / dirty so it might be a little hard to keep your pal clean if they like to lay down while you are having a beer. I recently found out this place-- it was relatively late at night and was looking for a place to bowl. After a short Yelp search, I discovered the Brooklyn location two weeks ago, but the wait time was long. I searched again last week--and came across this location in Long Island City. Just to preface to my review, I typically only Bowl at Bowlmar or Frames in the city; this place is a complete change of pace, from both of those locations-- I don't mean that in a bad way. It's basically a bar that contains an eight lane bowling alley in the back. Walked in, was greeted by the bartender.. made my way over to the gentlemen by the bowling area, who was very friendly and got my lane for bowling, which was fairly priced price at six bucks a game per person and two or three bucks for shoes. Unfortunate, after five frames of bowling, the lane malfunctioned. I informed an employee and we were moved to a new lane, but as a thank you, they offered the group a free hour of bowling, score one for the good guys! Although, as it was already late, and I needed to work in the morning, I just stayed for one extra game, it was still a wonderful gesture. The Gutter is perfect for a no-frills, low cost game of bowling when you want to settle a score with some friends, who despite beating them time and time again, for some reason think they are better than you at bowling. (Oh, sorry, I went off on a tangent there, for a second) FYI-- this place served up the strongest Jameson and Ginger Ale, I've ever had. read more

I am by no means a savvy beer drinker. But I am a hot dog eater, and my Barbie McCue hot dog was delicious. It was topped with honey chipotle BBQ sauce, fried onions, chopped raw white onions, tomato, and pickled jalapeños. My friend also really enjoyed his Pablo Piqueso, which came with cheese sauce, pickled jalapeños, crema, and crushed tortilla chips. You can get one hot dog for $5 or two for $9 so we went in on it together. I liked my Lord Hobo Angelica just fine. It's a wheat beer and is lightly fruity to take away from that, y'know, beer taste, which makes it the type of beer I prefer. They also have bowling here, which is a big part of the draw. I came here on a Saturday night around 6pm. The place was spacious but there's only 8 lanes. You get a ticket number from the counter. We were 10th in line and was informed thats about 1 hour and 30 min wait. We grabbed food and drinks nearby which I recommend doing so. After 1 hour we came back and we were the next party. Unfortunately, that 1 number took ANOTHER hour so our wait was 2 hours total. Tough luck... The bowling machines were rather old but that's the style. Sometimes we hit a glitch with the score but we didn't mind. The bowling balls were very dirty... they could do a better job wiping them down. We had few beers and cocktails which were decent and average priced. There were plenty of mutual gendered bathroom stalls. The lanes at the Gutter are from the Midwest, and thus so is the decor, making you feel like you are in an episode of Roseanne (before you know the new racist version of her surfaced), or a VFW with an expansive budget for memorabilia. I never realized how much the Midwest reminds me of New England but alas similar vibes. There really isn't much to say. Bowling is as bowling does. If you're a drunk jerk, don't expect the bartenders to handhold you. I mean, you are asking them to let you throw a 10 pound rock down a slick lane, so they may have some reservations. The bar area here is huge, and really great for a big group to gather and hang. The drafts on tap are not at all what you'd expect from a bowling alley, and are worth looking through before you grab a Gansett and a shot (though there is nothing wrong with doing just that). You can come for game play, or hour long play depending on the day. Shoe and sock rentals as one does. And all the balls to choose from. They often get buy outs from large groups, so be cautious coming and thinking you'll scoop a lane of a Friday or Saturday night. Kids aren't allowed. Neither are dogs. Have a drink. There is plenty of space to stand and little booths to sit in the bar area. Happy hour special includes $1off draft and wines, $2off cocktails and mixed drinks. The food menu has pork sliders $9, nachos $8, popcorn $5 and specialty hot dogs $5 or 2 for $9. Hotdog was delicious, nachos were meh and popcorn was very very buttery. Bowling is truly a long lost activity. I really love that we have a bowling alley in LIC. It's such a fun activity that even if you're terrible, you still have a good time. I'm a random bowler as in I randomly get strikes, and I randomly get gutter balls. There is no consistency with me. The bar is a divey feel. They have lots of beers on tap, often featuring local brews like Big aLICe - which I'm a fan of because I love their sour beers. They also have a small kitchen cooking up fun hotdog concoctions and other bar eats. Some of the things could do with a little sprucing up, like the shoes have seen better days. They still do their job though. We had a tough time with one alley on our last visit. One of the pins kept not getting picked up for the second bowl each time. So excited this place finally opened!! I checked out The Gutter on their opening night, and had a great time! I didn't bowl as there was a wait, but we did have a few drinks at the bar. If you're into vintage 70's/80's nostalgia, this place will be right up your alley (no pun intended). Good selection of drinks..a little pricey, but not crazy. Big open space with plenty of seats at the bar, lots of tables, and still enough room so you won't feel cramped if you don't score a seat. The snack bar only has hot dogs and desserts so far, but they look great. An expanded menu is in the works. The lanes are vintage as well, right down to the monitors...takes me back to when I was a teen/kid and loved going bowling. Shoe rentals and games are reasonably priced. Visited Saturday night 4/10/21 and it was such a terrible experience. I love The Gutter Williamsburg and have been probably a dozen times. This was my first time here and if the bartender that was "taking care" of us that night is ever there again, I'm definitely not going back. I'm not sure who pissed in his coffee, but from the start he was rude, curt, abrupt, and just an all around mean person. Smiling and asking for drinks nicely from the start, he immediately got annoyed that we didn't spit out all 6 drink orders to him at once, but rather 3 and 3. God forbid! Fun place with a great staff. They have 8 bowling lanes in the back of the bar with a paper ticket method of waiting for your turn to play. Sometimes your wait for a lane could be 1-2 hours, but they have a large, full bar, TVs, and board games to keep you occupied. I am so glad to have come back to LIC and find The Gutter was still open, I haven't been in since before COVID. The place still seems the same except now we were allowed to bring in our own food from the food truck outside. Honestly the place is still great, even though my bowling isn't. The only down fall is the groups of bratty drunken kids, so I guess somethings never change. Unfortunately this once hidden gem is not so hidden anymore. The Gutter is a bar with good brews, a good bar food menu and bowling in the back. The space itself is massive so you never have to worry about not finding a place to sit or stand. Their selection of beer comes from different microbreweries across the US. The menu separates them by beer style. And if you're craving an ice cold shot of fireball, you'll find it in red LED lights at the bar. They also have a limited food menu of hot dogs and popcorn. It's good to know that if you get the munchies there's food within reach of your lane/barstool. Just a fair warning: if you plan to bowl, get here early! Like 8-9 early. Any later than that and it's doubtful that you'll even get a lane. But if you don't get a lane, the bar has lots of board games you can play instead. I wish the Gutter LIC retained a little of its hidden charm but I'm glad that they're doing good business. They discontinued their boozy hot chocolate drink which was sad news, but I'll always return for everything else! read more

Super laid back, chill atmosphere. It definitely reminds me of those old school bowling alleys, with the diner-like bar area and the never-been-updated cheesy videos after every bowl. There's a limited food and drink selection, and TV monitors for your sports-watching delight. We arrived on a Wednesday night during World Series game 2. I hadn't bowled in a very long time. All the screens were showing the baseball game. It was easy to get a lane and some shoes and bowl a game while having a drink. I noted that you can play games or eat or sit at the bar if you don't like to bowl. Solid place, love that this is here in LIC. I can see how it could get really crowded on weekends. read more

This is the type of bowling alley that brings you back to the late 80's/early 90's . . . if you were alive during that era. ;) The Gutter is a smaller, no frills type of bowling alley, where one does not feel like they are going to a swanky lounge or club. You know, what a bowling alley is supposed to be. I was really impressed with the ease of acquiring a bowling lane (note, it is better to arrive early). Also, this location, similar to its Brooklyn counterpart, has an excellent selection of beer (and whiskey). This location is slightly better than the Brooklyn location, because the bowling alley accepts cards - a big plus in my book. The bartender that was on duty during my visit was very friendly and chatty. This may be atypical because we visited the alley around 5 pm, so the bar was not very busy at all. Plus, he let us sample a few of the newer beers and ales. It a shame that this bowling alley was not around when I lived in the area. This place is pretty big. Large warehouse like bar area with an old school 8 lane bowling alley in the back. The place is definitely divey. The co-ed bathrooms could use alittle more attention. On a positive note the beer selection is excellent. They weren't serving food but you were able to bring in food or order delivery to the bar. The bartender was attentive and the beers were relatively inexpensive. Came on a Sunday at 4:30pm. It took about 3 hours to wait 15 spots to play for an hour. The game was definitely fun.
