The bar tender made the best mocktail mules I've ever had. It wasn't too sweet, which as an Asian person is the best reward for a drink. Also my friend and I don't really drink a lot of alcohol so having an alternative that wasn't just juice was amazing. The ambiance was candle light gothic game room. 10/10 would go again

We visited The Gutter on a Wednesday afternoon about 30 minutes after they opened. There were guests playing pool and a bowling game getting started. They also have basketball and ski ball. I ordered from their happy hour menu which is designed like a bowling ball, so cute. Super cheap prices! Their regular menu had nice choices as well. The highest priced cocktail was $17 and it included a test tube of champagne. It was very tasty. Sweet and refreshing. The 4 star is because it was sooooo cold. I had to move over a few seats to avoid the blasting a/c. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were all very nice.

I thought we were bowling, but just ended up with a gutterball of a time. Came out with some friends to celebrate a MOMENTOUS occasion. I'm talking a huge accomplishment. My friend had reserved both lanes for us to enjoy some bowling and drinks to commemorate the occasion. Unfortunately, both bowling lanes were absolutely buggin' out and really made for a disappointing bowling experience. While we still know how to have a good time, one of the lanes couldn't even put all of the pins up. It was so bad, it was worse than all of the podunk bowling alleys I've ever been to, and I've been to some podunk bowling alleys. At one point, the lane tried like 20 times to setup the pins and they just kept falling. I kid you not. When the lane would set the pins up, it would often miss 1-3 pins, thereby giving you a couple points every frame. WTH? Even when I brought it to the attention of the associate, they were like 'Yeah, there's really nothing we can do. We'll have to have someone fix it tomorrow ". Say whaaaaaat? Both lanes had numerous issues, and forget the "reset" because that was useless. Yeah, it was a crappy bowling experience to say the least. But how about the bar you ask? Well that also was kinda bunko. The drinks were delicious, which I greatly appreciated, but ducking and dodging pool cues for 15+ minutes while we waited for our drinks was not the bizness. I really just think there's a little bit too much stuff under one roof. Nobody wants an accidental pool cue in there rear. Ya know. I'd like to come back another time, because I do think this spot has potential. Thanks to the bartenders for making some delicious and pretty cocktails.

My friends and I love going to this bar every time we visit Lafayette hotel! It was holiday time and Lafayette was well decorated and we couldn't wait to check out both the bars. First off, finding parking is usually hard. I recommend finding a spot further away and walking or taking a super short uber. As soon as we entered the bar, we were blown away by the crowd. It was crazy. Long lines at the bar. After waiting for 30ish minutes, we finally got our drink. We were a big group and we all got different drinks from the menu because they all looked exciting. And I must say, all the drinks were spectacular. The presentation could have been improved but flavor wise, they were perfect and had the right amount of alcohol in them. We were able to grab a spot to play foos table and had a great time. They also have other games like bowling, basketball etc and all of them looked super fun. However, there was a long line for everything unfortunately! Given that it was Christmas season, there was Santa and we had a great time taking pictures with Santa! All in all, we had a lovely time. The only drawback were the long lines. But overall, Lafayette is a special spot!

The Gutter is a unique bar inside the Lafayette Hotel. It's pretty large, with 2 bars, 2 pool tables, shuffleboard, arcade games and two lanes for bowling. As most people have mentioned, it does get packed. And it takes quite a while to get a drink. We planned ahead and booked a lane for bowling on Open Table. For $50 you get the lane and shoe rental for up to 6 people for one hour. You can also put your name down on a waiting list at the bar if you're not able to get a reservation. It's pricey but you're paying for the vibe that's unlike a traditional bowling alley. I'm not from SD, so personally I find The Gutter a cool place to come spend a few hours because it's not like anywhere else in the area. The cocktails are tasty, they have a good beer selection including NA beers and my recent favorite Donna's Pickle Beer, and the atmosphere is vibrant. There's plenty to do other than sit around and drink but it's also a solid spot if you want to do just that.

I always have a fun time here!! Some games tend to be broken from time to time but otherwise, this spot is always super entertaining. The decor is gorgeous and there's lots of seating and room. Tends to get busy on weekends and chiller on weeknights. I love the pool table and skeeball

We had so much fun! It's an old school alley, so not ideal for professional practice, but it's great for some intimate rounds with delicious drinks! I had the chai noir and I definitely would go back for more!

I'd give The Gutter 5 stars for ambience, decor, and fun factor. We love that there's a vintage wood paneled bowling alley, a shuffleboard table, and plenty of other games to keep you active. Atmosphere is definitely fun. And it's appreciated that tons of water pitchers are available for designated drivers. But it's next to impossible to get served a drink here, as in the parent Lafayette Hotel. I was one of the first in the door and to the bar when Gutter opened at 5pm, and bartenders ignored me for 20 minutes. Would come here to play games, but I'd rather drink elsewhere.

The only strikes here are on the ACTUAL bowling lanes in this bar! One of the coolest concepts with amazing drinks! Probably my favorite spot in North Park. It gets loud and fun later in the evening which awesome. Bartenders are so nice too! NOTE: they card religiously here (as they do at all Lafayette venues) so keep your license on you whenever you order

Such a nice and chill experience to have a drink or two. I noticed as a younger person who usually goes to dive bars the vibes are off most of the time but here the vibes were chill everyone seemed like they were having a good time. No one was there being belligerent or starting any fights, which was nice. The bartenders had a good attitude and I was watching the bartender handle our drinks with precision and passion. Drinks had just the right amount of liquor they weren't super sweet it seems like the drinks are made with good quality ingredients.

I really dig the concept of this place. It's located within the hotel along with a few other bars and speakeasies. This one is separated by a mini courtyard from the others. This place however is always packed. I came a few times and each time on a Saturday night. It's bustling after 8pm until close. If you're lucky to grab a spot to sit. You should be okay. If you're lucky enough to get a pool table you'll be okay. If you wait out the long line for bowling, you're golden. The problem is, is that you might be waiting 1-2 hours. If this is your only stop of the night. It might be worth it. But if you're looking to just stop in and have an activity and drink, think again. Drinks are ~16 dollars per cocktail. Pretty tasty. I had the Midnight Mischief which was super smooth. Highly recommended. There's far more people than seating. And with the amount of people there, it's pretty noisy so you'll most likely be shouting over folxs. Haven't had any of their food. I like to categorize this as a perfect one drink spot to end the night.

The Gutter is a play area at The Lafayette: It has a two lane bowling alley, billiards, arcade basketball, and free skeeball. It also has one of the seven bars on the property. At this point in the evening, I needed a break from hard alcohol, so I had a beer. The bar is very cool, as is the rest of the space. There were a lot of pretty people, and I felt myself instantly being upgraded from a 5 to a 7 - LOL. The bartenders are super nice and friendly. TG is a nice playground to visit while you are at TL.

Every part of the Lafayette Hotel is beyond impressive, but the gutter is next level. Whether it's the drinks or the games, you're set to have a good time. Every bartender took such good care of us and had the best recommendations for drinks, but extra shoutout to Shy, who really took her time with us to make sure we liked everything she made us. I have been to this new spot a couple of times now and had 2 very different experiences. The first time I went was in a Friday night and it was insanely packed and was very difficult to get a drink. But I went on a Tuesday night and it was less busy and was more enjoyable. This is a very dim lit place with fun games like ski ball, basket ball, even a shuffle board and a small bowling alley. The drinks are good, I asked the bartender to make me something with vodka and agreed that spicy would be good and it was so good, definitely spicy! This is a fun spot to hang out but I will say the weekends are super busy and not as enjoyable. read more

They did not want to serve me drinks claiming I was too young and I'm almost 27. They said they suspected me of having a fake gov ID which makes absolutely no sense I was already checked at the door! They gave me the wrong drink as well and pretty much ruined this being my favorite place. All this happened on New Years Eve ! completely unacceptable hopefully this won't happen to anyone else I'm sure I'm a rare circumstance to go to that extent of complimenting how young I look for my age is quite flattering maybe this place deserves an extra star for that atleast but still very embarrassing to be called out like that based on my appearance. read more

Fun place to enjoy a nice drink and shoot a game of pool with friends. The atmosphere is very classy and upscale. The service was good but still could be improved. The pool tables look brand new and well maintained. There are other games to play like hoops and bowling..hence the name. All the games are free except the bowling which is $50 per hour and must be reserved ahead of time. There is no food available so just drink play and quit complaining. It very busy and gets noisey. We had a great time there because we were able to secure a small pub table next to the pool tables and play for a while. Enjoy. read more

The ambiance and drink where amazing however service was defiantly sketchy to say the least. I got reservations for a lane to bowel at 6:30 and they said it would be opened at 8:15. Which is cool it was busy but when it came time I came over to staff around 8:00 and they said they would get me set up to bowl. 15 minutes later they come back and say sorry the lane was down and wasn't working and pushed us back another hour. I look over and both lanes are being used by people who had shown up after me and my partner. I was there 15 minutes before to make sure there was no issue and staff clearly said it's down then let another group in after telling me it was down and the lane wasn't operational. Not sure if high tipping is a thing or favoritizm is to blam but just keep in mind if you go here cuz staff acted like I wasn't on the list when I asked and approach her about it then I showed her my name and she still made us wait another hour. Just keep in mind if you go out here. Def would not recommend the bowling and was pretty frustrating and gaslighty but everything else was great. read more

I would just like to personally shout out Kiana for her outstanding service with my friends last night. She was so great and I love the fact that she was so attentive with us while we bowled. I hope your manager she's this Kiana and you get a little recognition for your hard work as it seemed like you were non stop and still treated us three so well. Came with my girl friends for a bday celebration and the vibe was completely ruined by these two bartenders who gave us dirty looks and serious attitude when ordering. I asked what something was from the bar and the girl bartender looked me up and down, laughed and then told me what it was. We came and expected a nice and joyful night and all we got was horrible service and attitude. If you want to enjoy a special event just try not to talk to the staff read more

where to I even begin? I made reservations online because it's required, and they keep your credit card on file and charge you a serious fee if you do not show up to your reservation. (understandable, there's only two lanes) we show up 10mins early and the place is PACKED. Both bars are so overcrowded, you cannot find a single staff member anywhere that is not a bartender behind the bar. The check in system is terrible, you go near the bowling lanes and there's no sign that tells you where to check in, now I have like one minute to check in and I can't ask the bartenders because I can't even squeeze my way in. Finally I see a staff member with an iPad talking to guest so i kindly ask about checking in; he was awesome. We get our shoes, he sets up our lane. He says obviously if we want a drink he cannot help but we can go to the bar. Fast forward to our time bowling, there's a small velvet rope the separates us from the rest of the public. Literally everyone who passes by stops us mid game and asks us how they can go about playing, or if they need reservations, or if anyone was using the lanes could they take their turn. And it's like every 5mins we need to stop what we are doing to answer general questions. I don't work here, I shouldn't have to accommodate every guest that interrupts us to answer questions about how to go about playing here. There should be a staff member stationed there. Then maybe the last 10mins of the game these three girls cross the pathetically placed velvet rope and sit in our reserved spot and are IN THE WAY. I posted a picture here to prove it. I didn't bother finding a staff member to remove them because there is literally NONE around and I'm not going to waste the last few minutes of bowling tracking a staff member down to remove these GIRLS. I'm not even going to stay women because they were so childish. I will not be coming to the Gutter ever again. The Gutter should compensate me for clocking in and working a shift basically. read more

I was at the Lafayette tonight for a graduation for a family member, I am genuinely disappointed. The bartender tonight said very aggressive provocative things to me. I felt so uncomfortable that I left with my family. If you are a male around 20-30 I do not recommend coming here unless you are ready to be aggressively solicited by this bartender. Parking is difficult if you do not live in the area. Drinks at 16$ for cocktails. Great drinks. Get a resv for bowling alley. Wait can get long on busy nights like Friday and sat. read more

Had a very unfortunate experience with their manager who refused to sell drinks to my friends because he could not, and I quote, serve people with Mexican IDs. The IDs were actually their US visas which are used to enter the country. Pretty terrible that a hotel has this policy against tourists. read more

Takes FOREVER to order a drink at any of the bars here and all the bartenders look miserable. Seriously, look at their faces. To make matters worse, we saw one of the female bartenders at the Gutter bar squirt water into the overpriced cocktails that she was making. You really need to watch these bartenders making your drink as you'll likely catch them adding water into your glass. This place only has its ambiance going for it and nothing else. read more

Absolute SHITSHOW. Other than the great ambiance, it gets quickly diminished by the overwhelming crowd and horrible service. We were seated at the bar and it nearly took 30 minutes for our drinks. The staff looked confused, messed up with our orders, and clearly couldn't handle the crowd. It may be new, so I'll cut them some slack, but they need to get it together real quick. read more

Bucha & Belly take on the GUT. Find this spot in the Lafayette Hotel, where you'll find yourself amongst a pool spanning from wide-eyed 20 somethings to prowling 50 somethings. In this dark adult Dave & Busters, there are no shortage of mini-games to fill awkward interactions. Good luck trying to get a drink here as late-night lurkers grip the bar as if the floor was lava in this place. Bucha got a drink ironically named the "Quick and the Dead" as it did not come out quick and we think there was something living in it as well. Bucha rates it 3/5. Overall, a cool spot but falls short of a proper speakeasy. read more

Their happy hour is fantastic, and the bartenders are always friendly, chill, and make everyone feel welcome. It's one of my favorite places to stop for a drink before heading out to dinner. The vibe is unpretentious, the cocktails are well made, and it's just an easy place to relax and hang out. I'm genuinely sad to hear they're leaving this location and really hope they're able to reopen in a new space soon. San Diego could use more places like this, not fewer.

There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

The Gutter at the Lafayette Hotel is such a cool spot! The vibe is great with stylish decor, bowling, pool tables, and a few other games to keep things fun.
