The salmon tasted good as well, as I'm picky when it comes to salmon, but this place did not disappoint. Food also came with tzatziki sauce on the side, which really complemented the food. I was CRAVING frozen Greek yogurt after the gym recently and was thrilled that The Gyro Project now has a Midtown East location. The yogurt was fresh and perfectly tart, and they pack to-go orders in a closed container with plastic wrap (for anyone ordering for delivery)! For pick up orders - just go to the cashier to ask for your order, there is no designated rack. My one gripe is that the frozen yogurt is a little pricey for the size, but supply-demand is real and there are no other places nearby to get good frozen Greek yogurt. For the quality and quantity, definitely the best lunch bowl in the area. We ordered delivery so I don't know what the ambiance or service is like, but the food was very tasty albeit salty (that could be from the olives I added to my bowl though). I got a rice and greek slaw base with lamb and beef gyro, hummus, babaghanoush, tzatziki, gigante beans, dolmades (2), olives, mediterranean salad (cucumber, tomato and onion) and 3 pieces of pita. The bowl was packed to the top and cost $20. I was extremely full after (this could have been two meals for most people) and felt everything in the bowl was very tasty (the gigante beans were especially good and I would happily eat them on their own as a separate side). I know many people who go here weekly and love it so they are definitely doing something right. I want to dine in so I can try their greek yogurt/soft serve with olive oil as everyone I know who has tried it loves it. I usually find lunch bowls to be overpriced and not filling and I can happily report that is NOT the case with Gyro Project. My coworkers and I ordered here for the first time for our lunch hour as takeout. The app made it so easy to order our lunch. I got the chicken Gyro platter and my coworker got the beef and lamb Gyro platter. Everything was so fresh and so flavorful we were blown away. My coworker who nearly hates everything told me that this was one of the best dishes she's ever had and that means a lot. We finished everything. I've been a fan of Gyro Project, including their newer location in Murray Hill/Kips Bay Area, on the corner of 34th/1st Avenue. I often order a bowl with: base of half cabbage/ half rice (or all cabbage), chicken souvlaki (quantity varies, either 3 or 4 small pieces of chicken), dolmades (2), lemon potatoes (2 halves, felt skimpy)... babaganoush, tzatziki and pita on the side for $15.95 plus tax, over $17. The bowl was yummy but didn't feel like a lot of food. Comparing GP to other places like taim (chicken platter $13.95) or Brasa (chicken bowl $14.90) which offer similar quality, larger portions, with more toppings and sauces included at slightly lower price. I will definitely continue eating Gyro Project, but recommend maybe include more toppings at the base price. I feel like their other locations have filled the bowl with more food than this location. Shout out to Rah, great energy, friendly and personable. He makes sure everyone is having a great experience and understands the menu. He's a gem!!! (4 star overall, but 3 star for food quantity which has been the same amount the last 3 times I ordered at this location). This newly opened casual Greek spot is perfect if you want a filling and delicious quick meal. They have gyros, bowls, and a number of different appetizers and entrees. Service here is so sweet, when you are unsure of what to order. And, there's plenty of seating for you to enjoy your food at. I got their customizable greek bowl (~$16) and thought it was absolutely delicious. I got some rice, salad, and slaw for my base (which I enjoyed as it didn't leave me feeling too heavy), their beef and lamb was so flavorful, and all of their toppings were freshly made. Tried Taverna before (sister restaurant) so I knew this was going to be good and it indeed was. Quality of food is soooo good here--idk what they do to their beef and lamb gyro but it's always consistently cooked perfectly, super juicy and moist. One of the best gyro meats I've ever had and that's not even what I order (my boyfriend gets it and I steal a bunch haha). I love that the bowl comes with greek slaw too. I got the chicken souvlaki with tzatziki and love it in the pita! We also tried the greek goddess which is like a pesto, I could see it being good in a salad but prob would skip next time since I love the tzatziki so much more. We got their in house teas--I liked the peach tea. Do not skip on the froyo. I got the froyo (OG) with Greek yogurt and holy molyyyyy it's amazing. We had a great experience with service as well, the manager(?) treated us very well. The place stayed busy throughout our time eating here and they only opened a month ago so good for them! While this location isn't entirely new, I had the opportunity to try their food recently. They provide great options for a delicious bowl of Mediterranean style cuisine, not to mention a wider variety of desserts less commonly found at other Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern bowl spots. What I've tried so far has been tasty--I got a bowl to go, a bed of seasoned rice with chicken souvlaki, bean stew, shredded red cabbage slaw, cucumber and tomato salad, hummus and baba ghanouj. I'll be honest I was a little apprehensive bc chicken souvlaki can be dry sometimes but they laid that fear to rest. The meat was tender and juicy, really good! I will say the size of the bowls they use at this location were wider though less deep so it felt like the portions were a tad bit less than another location I tried. All tasted fresh and well-seasoned though! The peach tea was very fruit forward and on the sweeter side which I solved by slightly diluting with a bit of water, though I'm sure some people will enjoy it as is. I that loved you could taste the notes of tea and not just sugar. The walnut cake was on the sweeter side being soaked in sugar syrup, though ok to eat half in one sitting. Staff members at the counter were friendly, asked if I'd been helped, then directed me to the beginning of the line (towards the back left of the store) to start placing my order. They follow the commonly practiced assembly-line process of choosing protein first, then toppings and sauces/dips. The whole process took maybe five minutes to order and check out, since there wasn't anyone in front of me in line at the moment, though a few people lined up behind me as I was ordering. Seating for about 20 is available inside at a handful of tables, and I also saw customers taking their food to go. It's bright and clean in the store, convenient for those that work or live nearby. I took my daughter along and we brought our food home. The location is on a corner right across from my hospital. my oncologist and many other medical offices I visit are very close. I'm saying this as it is a busy experience during peak l meal times. Food: We shared everything including the extra Bakery Items I purchased. When we go to our other favorite Mediterranean restaurant a bowl gets two meals. We did not have that ability with the amount provided here for the price. The Greek Caesar Salad has a $5 charge for chicken. We added macaroni and our own chicken to the second serving of the Gyro Bowl. Four Stars Service Description: The amount of employees was amazing. They were professional, friendly and kept things moving. The line gets long so know what you want ahead of time. Everything was perfectly packaged to go home. Check out employees were smiling, friendly and gathered my baked items and extra pita quickly for my to go bag. Pay with touch screen and Visa card was quick. Five Stars Atmosphere: There's plenty of seating if you want to eat here. The business is clean, comfortable and has a pleasant atmosphere. I'd sit in the back away from the door and food line. There's stools in the front if you prefer to sit at the counter. This is a popular spot, especially during lunchtime! I came and ordered a chicken schnitzel bowl and a lamb gyro and the lamb. Gyro was definitely the favorite of the two. Feta is yummy, but my favorite is their harissa sauce and their orange pie, which is a classic in Greece. Would recommend as a solid lunch spot. read more

They have entrees and appetizers but I always default to the chicken or salmon bowl, and they have an a wide variety of sides and sauces. My favorite is always the tzatziki sauce. Now as they opened I don't want to be negative. We had a gyro place here before which I missed. I've consulted on many Greek restaurants as well. But, something I haven't seen since I ate a bodega buffet or cafeteria is their SOP. All food is held in a steam table. That's fine I actually thought of it as a Greek Chipotle. However, this includes all fried food. . Meanwhile, as a restaurant opened they wisely overstaffed to make sure they are capable of handling any foreseen heavy business and being able to handle the rush. This ensures new customers won't be upset and visit again. But I paid $10 each for fries, spanokipata egg rolls and halloumi fries. In general, you fully well know as the operator, that this isn't a solution. However, there were deep third pans in the steam table meant for this purpose. All while you had so much staff they were literally bumping into each other. Four at the register alone. I would never allow that in my restaurants. Positive. I thought all fried food tasted well, while not even close to crispy, whenever it was cooked. But, you can't charge $10 for fries in midtown manhattan when I literally see the cook scoop it up from a steam table. Also know your audience. Across the street is hospital row. They can transplant a kidney in the morning and then not know it's overpriced inferior product. Other stuff. The froyo was great. Gyro, for price, was good as well. Especially, the pita, which trust me I know the costs on that. It's like having a housemade burrito. It increases the cost on a product you don't want to worry about. I'm sure they will figure this out, but there are multiple of them in existence. It seems like this is SOP. To the owner. You currently have labor to point of almost 40% when compared to sales. But, are delivering not only a cafeteria product, but one that by design, you show to your paying guests at a premium price. I'd come back for the gyro and froyo, I won't pay for fried food at a premium price that is scooped out of a steam table while 6 line cooks, I counted, stand there. Also, know your competition. Doner Haus does the same thing to order including shaving the meat. It also has a quarter of the staff. read more
