We went here last night, and it was pretty packed. We didn't have a reservation, but I'm so glad they were still able to find us a table. I usually eat here whenever I'm on the Upper East Side because the staff is always so nice and welcoming. The food is amazing and honestly reminds me of the meals we had in Greece. My usual order is the Brussels sprout salad with a shrimp skewer, but last night I decided to try the watermelon salad, and it was absolutely superb! I also love that they offer different daily specials, which keeps the menu exciting every time I visit. Next time, I'd love to try the Branzino special if they have it. This is definitely one of my favorite Greek restaurants in NYC, and I highly recommend it! read more

Came here when I first moved to the neighborhood and I'm not sure why it took me so long to come back. This is such a yummy upper east side spot! You can come here for any occasion. Portions are all perfect to share as well. The staff were super friendly. Greeted us as soon as we walked in, explained things on the menu, made suggestions, and constantly checked in on us. Delicious spot for Greek food in Yorkville. Terrific menu of Greek entrees, appetizers, and drinks. Actually, pretty basic menu lineup which is fine in that it allows the kitchen to focus on preparing good food. Very nice decor, atmosphere, with attentive and friendly service. Also, for those complaining about being seated next to the bathroom, by the front door, or near the server station get a backbone and demand a better table. I always refuse those spots and have always been offered a better table by the hostess. Sometimes you just need to speak up. How does this place have a 4.5 star rating? We've been here many times as it's close to home. The food is always a solid 3/5, at best. It doesn't matter if you're getting a horatiki salad, pikilia, souvlaki of any kind, or a piece of salmon. The pita is bad, but everything else is just fine. Then you'll get the bill and ask yourself how you just dropped $250+. $18 for two pieces of halloumi? A 25% tip? And why does my stomach hurt? The servers are kind enough. The hosts are oblivious. Maybe you'll be blessed with a table by the bathroom or a door tonight? Maybe you'll get your delivery within the next hour? Do not ever order delivery from here. Ignore the delay for a moment. Everyone makes slips. $80+ got us 1) a chicken platter 2) two small soggy slices of halloumi 3) a salad with a single lukewarm chicken kebab on the side. The food was fatty, greasy, cold, and looked like it had been leftover and reheated from someone else's plate. Perhaps the delivery kitchen is different than the dine-in one? We were starving, so please pray for us - hopefully no one starts feeling sick tonight. Yasouvlaki is an awesome place to take your parents visiting from the suburbs or another state. A touch above casual dinner. They offer a variety of spreads, pitas and platters. Got the roasted eggplant spread which came with warm pita. The eggplant was a chunky spread and had a good tangy flavor. Ordered the chicken thigh platter which came with 2 sauces, fries and pita. Portion was a good size for dinner. Today was such a glorious day, I was sorry outdoor tables hadn't been set up. (It goes back to cold and rainy tomorrow.) Knowing what I like and what I don't at Yasouvlaki I ordered discriminately off the lunch menu. For $22 I chose a kefta gyro, which came with a lovely Greek salad. (Kefta is ground, spiced beef and/or lamb.) I rarely order soda but it was part of the special. Either that or coffee. We went again today to this restaurant and the food was just as delicious as we remembered. I took my niece after her basketball practice and she absolutely loved her gyro. She enjoyed every bite and kept saying how good it was. I tried a couple of bites and I loved it too. The meat was tender, the flavors were fresh, and everything tasted so well seasoned. Beyond disappointed & felt disrespected. I stopped in at 8:30, a table of one, and said I wanted to grab dinner before my overnight shift. I was told there was no availability. Online it says they close at TEN PM. When I walked by a Busser he said that they had open tables- but then the host came out again and said unfortunately they were closing soon. Then I went on open table to see what was near by- and what do you know. Yasouvlaki had reservations open for 9pm, 9:15pm and 9:30pm. I made a reservation for 9pm just to see if they would call me and say they were closing. Then I got a call asking if I was on my way. As someone who works in hospitality I get that it's not the hosts fault and that maybe the manager said no more walk-ins. But I felt completely disrespected at a neighborhood restaurant that I was excited to try. I went to Bocado instead, and had their restaurant week menu. The artichoke dip and their pasta selection was to die for. The waitresses were so sweet and attentive and gave me espresso with my tiramisu. 10/10 would go back. read more

Solid Greek food that hits the spot! I've always walked by this restaurant and decided to get takeout when I was craving some gyro. While I appreciate that they pack everything in aluminum lined boxes which keep most of the dishes warm, I think it trapped a lot of condensation with the fried calamari/zuccini which made it soggy. I was able to reheat it in the toaster oven and it turned out to be very tasty with a nice light and well-seasoned batter. The grilled octopus was very tender and I really enjoyed the accompanying fennel, capers, and veggies. The shrimp skewer was solid and featured jumbo and juicy shrimp. While I like things on the saltier side the shrimp was a little over seasoned. The pork gyro was chewy, juicy, and packed with flavor. Pita bread, fries, and tabouli were pretty standard. The yasou sauce was very tasty and went well with many of the items. Lastly also tried their dandelion greens which were straightforward with some citrus flavors. For dessert, the ekmek kataifi was good but not quite what I expected. The greek custard was creamy and overall it had a good pistachio presence. The kataifi was doused in syrup so it wasn't crispy anymore. The lemon and the tanginess were more prominent than expected and somewhat overpowered the rest of the layers. read more

Wow - what a great restaurant! We need something kid friendly on the UES and this place has a kids menu so it won. But being good for kids didn't compromise quality for the rest of the family. This spot is great for families and for first dates! It has a vast bar with fun Greek beers and a good wine list! The food is delicious! The calamari was tender and not overcooked. Came here with a friend a few weeks ago for dinner. Nice night out so I opted for outdoor dinning. We sat in their shed like building. There was a bench on one side with cushions and pillows and on other side had a chair. The bench was pretty uncomfortable even with the cushion and pillows. It was a bit narrow. What we had to eat, well there was alot of pita at the table. I feel like every dish we got which was nit much came with pita. We had to start the tzatziki dip and hummus and the Spanakopita was very tasty and full if spinach not much cheese. As our mains we both got the chicken skewers which comes with one skewer an order and they were pretty light on the sauce for this which made it sad looking too. As our sides I got the potatoes which were doused in the sauce and my friend got the french fries. For drinks my friend had a soda and I tried a beer but it was too light for me as they were out of the beer I originally wanted. In my oopiniok the chicken skewer was not worth it. I liked the dips the most and the Spanakopita the best. Our waitress was ok and nice. Felt like she rushed us a little bit while ordering but other than that she was fine and answered any questions we had about the menu. The location was uncomfortable--it was exposed to a draft and directly in the path of foot traffic. First of all, let me start by saying how adorable the decór is. There were candles on each table, white walls, and hints of blue. It felt like we were in Greece. For the appetizer, we shared taramasalata, which has to be one of my favorite dips in the world besides hummus. Needless to say, it was delicious. The warm pita bread only added to the experience of sopping it up. We devoured every last morsel. Finally, for the main dish! I ordered the salmon souvlaki platter. It came with taboule, Greek fries, pita, tzatziki sauce and another unknown dip that I didn't end up using. There's something to be said about grilled salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection, moist on the inside with the most heavenly crisp on the outside. You truly can't beat it. I ate all of the souvlaki, pita, and taboule, and got too full before I could finish the fries. I did try one or two of them though, and they were also great- can't go wrong with Greek fries! Right as we finished our meals, the waitress came over with a birthday dessert for me, complete with a candle. It was the Greek yogurt with sour cherry compote. It took me by surprise, but it was the perfect way to end an amazing meal. The Greek yogurt itself is unsweetened, but the cherry compote adds just the right amount of sweetness to it without being overpowering. Really solid dessert! All in all, I'm happy my grandma took me here tonight! While it's a bit on the pricier end, it's perfect for a special occasion.
