I initially went to the salon in the spring of 2019 in preparation for my engagement shoot. I'm natural and wanted my hair pressed with clip-ins for my photos. I'll admit the consultation took a while but that is because Noël really wants to understand your hair! She was honest, took in my considerations (I really needed it cut, but didn't want to right before the photos!) and helped me get some high-quality extensions for my shoot. Following that, I became a regular as my goal was to really grow it as much as possible for my upcoming wedding. This involved a few cuts, several Emergency repair treatments, and ultimately she recommended a keratin treatment to help with my curl manageability and improve growth (I have more kinky, coarse hair). After a year, my hair grew to its longest point and actually past the length of the clip-ins I ordered a year prior. The few times I have gotten it straightened my curls have always come back! I went rogue one time when I couldn't get in and got it straightened at another salon and unfortunately experienced some heat damage - never again, but we are nursing them back :) During COVID she has continued to do virtual appointments when I can't come in, consulted me on various treatments and my wash routine, and shipped me products as I have since moved out of state. My hair continues to experience tremendous growth with the products I order from the salon and I am looking forward to being a regular again once it is safe to travel more freely! While the services are on the pricier side, I am willing to make the investment. I can honestly say, you get what you pay for at NNY. Right off the bat every employee was super nice, friendly, kind, and sweet. My questions were answered quickly, yet detailed and professional, each receptionist was very kind. I was given tea, and treated wonderfully while getting my hair done and even after. I will say though, they are on a bit of the pricey side. I usually pay $45.00 for a regular wash and press, but I payed nearly $70 at Noel's. It's okay though, because it was all worth it! My hairstylest Harley was super sweet, she made sure I left looking fabulous, and she really worked her magic! I got to meet the owner as well who makes you feel right at home. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone in the neighborhood, or even if you just want to stop by and check it out!

I am convinced that Mateya took advantage of my daughter given that she was 16. Because there is no way if I had accompanied her to the appointment that she could have left with her hair like that with a whopping charge of $185. I will pay any price to have my daughter's hair done as long as the person does a good job and this was horrible. She claims she used two packs of braids. Seems like she used only one. The braids are thin at the beginning and at the end looks like strings. There are some very thin tiny ones in the back. My daughter has a thick head of hair and these make her look like her hair is extremely thin. I am completely and utterly disappointed. My daughter this morning wants the braids out of her hair which we are going to take out.

Today I had the displeasure of experiencing a very rude & belligerent customer while getting my hair done. A woman (who's race I will not mention) came in the salon and complained from the moment she walked in. I chalked It up to her having a bad day. She made very rude and distasteful comments towards her stylist and the stylist remained professional. She was then given a new stylist and complained about the stylist not knowing how to do "straight Japanese hair because this is not a Japanese salon". She then began to made very insensitive comments about African Americans and black owned businesses. As an African American I was highly offended and mortified that someone would behave in this manner. Although she behaved the way she did, the stylists and owner remained very professional and did not stoop down to her level. When It came time to pay for the service she received she complained about the price (that she was quoted online when she made the appointment and in person when she walked in). She then refused to pay for the service she received which led to the owner to threaten to call the police. The woman became very belligerent as she was asked to leave and shouted many racist slurs on her way out of the door as myself and other salon customers were in shock. Safe to say after taking a brief breather, the owner finished my hair and SLAYED as she always does. I commend her for remaining cool and collected in a very negative situation. I got there around 6 on a Monday hoping it wasn't going to be too busy (the weather is nice and usually she's busy) when I arrived there was just one other person there and I didn't have to wait at all. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she said yes they can do that.I had a good head massage when my hair was washed which was a plus. Once washed ( my hair smelled heavenly) she went right to work. In about an hour (maybe less) my hair was done. She even pinned it up for me so that I could sleep without it getting messed up. Hair aside, because we all know she does a great job, the salon is clean and neat. Its next door to a laundromat and a corner store. Her prices are good ( I spent $35 not including tip) I can always count on this salon to be opened. She's opened early and closed late. The salon is also opened everyday. All in all I would recommend this hair salon to everyone. I will definitely be back.

Well this is definitely NOT one of those situations. I was in a rather desperate situation because the woman who usual does my braids was unavailable due to illness. So after searching yelp for someplace that is professional while being in my price range, I can upon Lady Leo Beauty Salon. I was able to make a same day appointment with Shenel, the resident hair braider and after previewing the pictures online, I was excited to get my summer style. I choose something simple and quick, cornrows of alternating size braided back into a bun. This was something basic that I didn't feel was easy to mess up. I did not get my hair washed or even blow dried, from start to finish my style which should have taken no more than two hours took over 4! I read the review of another helper about time being an issue for the, so this was no so surprising for me. After all quality takes time right? Wrong! After weather numerous comments by Shenel about how thin my edges were and dry my hair was (I had just taken out my kinky twists and my hair needed some TLC, which I tried to explain to her), I had to sit through her rough mishandling of my hair. I am not were near tender headed but I had to bite my tongue more than once. They braids were so tight I could not even touch the or bear to have her put them up into a bun. I told her they were tight and to her credit she tried to use steam to loosen them up. This did not work well and I have to take 825 mg of ibuprofen (a throw back from my Caesarean section this past winter). I left in pain and upset because she had braided on the very baby hairs which she complained were too thin. By then I was so tired I just wanted out. I paid the 80 fee ( nowhere near worth the style I received) forewent a tip and hurried out of the shop vowing not to return. I am writing this review a week after my experience because the pain from the tight braids remains and I am upset that I wasted my money because I now have to take out the braids that I received only last Monday! The cornrows which she placed on my baby hairs literally detached from my head from the stress of being braided too tight. Please do make the same mistake I did, please go elsewhere for your braids. Please see the attached pictures as a cautionary tale from my experience.

After moving to NY, I was very apprehensive about finding someone to do my hair. But, I'm so glad I stumbled across her shop (after several terrible experiences elsewhere). She is definitely the only one in NYC I will let touch my hair! Karen really takes the time to talk with her clients about their hair and figures out a hair care plan and style that is suitable for ultimate growth. She also has several treatments (oil and protein) that she encourages her clients to use to perpetuate healthy hair and growth. Beyond that, she is extremely friendly and accommodating (she has squeezed me in on short notice when I desperately needed it, something I really appreciate it). Also, she is all about doing what's in the best interest of your hair! So, she's not afraid to let her clients know when a style or color request may be damaging to the hair--a very important characteristic to have as a hair care professional! I think the prices are reasonable, and there are no surprises, as all the rates are listed on the wall. I typically get full sew-ins which take approx. 4.5 hours, but are well worth the time! You can't rush quality, which is definitely what you can expect to receive. I am constantly complimented on my hair every time I get it done! So, definitely check out the salon! I've been going for 1 1/2 years, and I'm very satisfied!
