One of my four boys (the Nashville one) has been touting how good the Halal Guys restaurant is. Well, just around the corner where I live there is a Halal Guys, and with my wife away I thought I give it a try. I ordered their chicken wrap with a side of hummus and some hot sauce. I placed the order online and picked it up at my exact time. The food I ordered was tasty and for the price I would say I had a very good dinner. But.....(I guess there's sometimes a but) my wrap fell apart alike a sinking ship. What I thought was a hand held sandwich, turned out to be a fork and spoon experience. Fresh and fast, the Halal guys has filling in bowls at affordable prices. My favorite is the gyro with all the vegetables. Hole in the wall, no doubt about that. But the food is as good as their NYC food truck counterparts. It's pre-made fast food. Let's keep that in mind. Sometimes you may get meat that's a little overcooked - I think it's forgivable given the kind of food they serve. I do like those crispy bits of gyros. Friendly service, quick massive portion eats! I ordered the gyro bowl with everything extra hot sauce and white sauce plus a water. My total was $20 and some change. It's enough for 2-3 people!!! My complaints are that it was kinda bland. The gyro meat was very salty for my taste and the rice was tasteless. No garlic, dill, onion nodes at all. The white sauce wasn't flavor forward either! Recanted visited for dinner and had a lovely experience. The workers were super friendly and accommodating! The menu had a lot of fun options on it to try such as a honey sriracha falafel. I've been to this Halal Guys a few times already. The food always taste consistently great, I just wish they would load the plates up to the top. While they don't have the same taste as the ones from New York City, its always great to have every now and then. The staff here is also friendly and very welcoming. I usually order their large Chicken Platter. Similar to chipotle unfortunately, you go down the line and then then what you'd like. Lettuce, tomatoes, onions and peppers. Ive never seen onions and peppers being offered at any of the halal carts in NYC, and I don't get them here. The chicken here tastes fresh and the white size is amazing. It was my first time eating here and I wanted to to try it because I've heard good things, and it was great! The place is very small and there's only a few tables available and staff was nice! There's no bathroom or wifi here and parking is mostly street parking. I got the regular chicken and gyro platter, with white sauce and a bit of BBQ sauce! The meat was very tender and flavorful, it was delicious itself. Everything tasted so good together and seemed very fresh. I recommend this place for a quick bite or for good delicious food. The food at this Halal guys is decent. Specifically, the gyros are decent (I have had better). There also isn't the biggest selection on the menu (chicken, beef, and falafel). The biggest problem I have with this location is the lack of seating. There are very few, if any, places to actually sit and eat. If you are lucky enough to get a seat, it will feel as though other customers are hovering over you because the location is so tight. The pita bread tastes good. The rice is a little dry but super tasty. The vegetables seem fresh and complement the dish well. Combo plate with chicken & gyro. Rant: Both the chicken and gyro were BOTH over cooked! It was weirdly mixed with edible pieces and literally hard as rock pieces you couldn't even bite through. Think beef jerky meets jawbreaker. Rice was good, lettuce and tomatoes tasted fresh, but the pita bread... cold, doughy, probably under cooked as all four pieces seemed like they were glued together when I tried to separate them... W T F?! Maybe I'm still salty from last nights Cubs loss, but I vow to go only to the newer loop location from here on out if craving Halal Guys. Hate to give this review but I just finished half of my bowl because I was so hungry. But something didn't seem right. As I closely examined up close the chicken it's not cooked. Great now I might get sick. I lived in nyc for 5 years and it was one of my favorite go to spots. If I die just know I came here on Wednesday 12/12/18 at around 11:45 am. First time trying Halal Guys, finally!! All those snapchats, Instagram posts and talk about Halal Guys has brought me to this very moment. I'm currently sitting in a hotel room in Chicago and didn't even know there was a Halal Guys out here. I had no idea what to order so I just followed in my friends foot steps and ordered the platter with chicken and beef with sauce on the side. First off, the white sauce is very necessary!!! Get extra is possible because I can't imagine how the meal would've tasted without it. Also, their hotel sauce is ridiculously hot. I put 3 drops and it was perfect for just about the entire platter. I think that the only gripe was that the meat could've been hotter but that's not something you can't fix yourself. They don't have any seats to sit at while you eat but more of a standing area if it's not busy. We ended up taking it to-go and it was still delicious. Overall, good price for what you get. Located in the busy Division and Clark, this place gets a lot of traffic as it is also nestled with local shops and bars. This very hyped place is 5 stars in NY where it is a food cart and serves at a very fast paced level. I was hoping it is comparable to this new(er) Chicago location but not so much. Here's why: -no parking (well ok, NY has no parking either but it's expected. I just had to bitch because this HG has a storefront, it's not a cart so expectations of perhaps dining there may play your mind. NO! Standing room only for maximum of 4 patrons and metered parking $2/30 min is very scarce) - quality and amount of food - mediocre and small. The rice was hard and the gyro--- well it's just not the same. The amount of food is less than you would get in NY. - $10+ for a combination (2 meats) Vs $8 in NY So in conclusion, comparing these 2 cities may not be fair but when NY is the baseline, this CHICAGO location is a disappointment. read more

So I don't like to write these things, or ever want to hurt anyone in doing them. BUT, I feel most restaurants are getting to pricey regardless of the quality of food and they don't care what we think as the clients. My first experience and the last with this guy! I spent $60 on subpar fast food. I thought this was going to be authentic based on all the 4 star reviews I read. I ordered a Gyros plate, and it was so disappointing. The meat was chopped into little pieces as if I was ordering a taco. It was dry and layered on top of rice to look like it was a good portion but it was only a superficial layer. Not worth the price. I also ordered Baba Ghanoush and Hummus, both extremely salty. The real kicker is they give you pita chips instead of pita. Then they claimed I ordered this. The fresh pita that came with the meal was four tiny little slices, and then the pita with the sides I requested were two small bags of Stacey's pita chips. Who pays $60 for bags of chips, I was looking forward to fresh warm Pita! So gross to even use this as an option. The olives were also diced not whole like the photo shows and the falafel, two small pieces the size of gum balls you get for a quarter. Just horrible unauthentic. When I called to ask about he chips, the lady could careless what I thought. Not authentic at all, it may look the part but the spices aren't even there, a bunch of salt. No middle eastern spices used at all and as long as I am not appreciated as a customer. I wont ever give it a second try. Listening should be top priority when you own a business. If you know what I'm talking about, you would know which exact one you would go straight to. Plus, anybody who's been there is the very reason why they're here today. So yea, we're trying out Halal Guys team Chitown! The location is a cute little take out operation. So instead of a food cart, it's a hole in the wall. Which is a good thing since they're all about quantity sales. And don't let that quantity sales food you. Quality is also their calling. For $8.99 you'll get a big platter of food, trust me, even at your most hangriest state, finishing one of these bad boys is a daunting task. Sharing is the proper cure for that. Ask for the red sauce only if you are a spicy junkie. Because the red sauce is not for noobs. If you are,, stick to the white sauce. As for me,, I like to combine the two. It's probably the only way to alleviate the heat from the red sauce. Service is good hole in the wall service. You walk up, you let them know what you want,, you pay,, you pick up at the other side, then you eat. No baby momma drama there. Plus there's little stand up counter by the window for you to eat on. I went opening day and the line was ridiculously long so I continued on my way. I went the next day at just the right time! I waited in line about 20-30 minutes. I ordered the mixed chicken and gyro with green peppers and jalapeños with extra white and extra hot. I like the heat. My aunt ordered the standard mixed plate with extra white and no hot. We each ordered the regular size for 8.99. Mine was like a dollar more bc of the peppers. Total came out to $20 and change. The food is good. The meat is tender. The veggies fresh. The regular gave us both lunch on Sunday and lunch on Monday. So $20 for a total of 4 meals is pretty good if you ask me. Honestly tho the food is better in NYC. I ate at one of the famous carts and it was soooo much better!!! Idk if it's because the meat sits on the grills all day at the cart and here they seat on the steam tables or what. My boyfriend and I wanted to see what the hype was all about. I'm not a big fan of gyros but my boyfriend loves them. I got the small bowl with chicken/gyros and I have to say it hit the spot. The small bowl got myself full, there was a lot of food. The rice was okay but the rest of the food was delicious. It's a good place for a quick stop by food stop. I was so excited when they first opened one around the chicagoland area since they are more known on the east coast, new york to be specific. by far, the most popular one customers usually get is the platter. The platter usually comes with either chicken, falafel, or gyro. Topped with green peppers, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes and also, a bed of rice. Best part of ordering the platter is that you can have two proteins! the two proteins that I usually go for is the chicken and gyros. They also include slices of pita bread with your platter. The sauces are amazing but be aware of their hot sauce! I am a lover of spicy food but one drop of their bad boy red sauce will literally leave your tongue numb and it will ruin your meal unless you know for a fact that you have high tolerance for spice! I love Halal Guys! This location is always my go-to because it's right off the train near me. I'm taking one star away because there's no seating but I usually take the bowl home or to somewhere nearby so it's not too big of an issue. The food here never disappoints. I always get the combo so you have both chicken and gyro! I also add olives and peppers which cost extra but add a good kick to your bowl. You can also ask for BBQ sauce instead of white sauce. But I wouldn't sleep on the white sauce - it's so good and addicting! Be careful of the hot sauce! Even for spice lovers this sauce is a doozy. I can usually only handle a couple drops. It's also nice to know you can order your bowl and customize it however you want. I usually ask for extra lettuce instead of rice to make it a little healthier.
