Having tried Halal guys in So Cal I was excited that there is a location near my new job. Went there on lunch break bragging at how good this place is. Should have changed my mind as soon as the employee behind the counter pronounce Gyro completely wrong. I have heard it pronounced wrong my whole life just never at the restaurant that I was ordering from. They had just opened so I figured the food would be fresh and hot. I did not see or smell the meat cooking and they had it cut into small pieces in a container (not the strips cut from the spit). The meat was dry and kind of bland. I guess to make up for the blandness of the meat they completely doused the whole thing with so much white sauce I had to pour some of it off before I could even take a bite. Hopefully this was a one off and I will probably give it another chance, but please make sure the employees at least know how to pronounce what they are making. read more

I ordered 5 platters through Postmates and I live about 20 miles away so it's definitely not across the street. The postmates driver came on time but only brought 4 platters. Upon finding out that we only got four platters instead of 5, the postmates driver immediately called the halal guys store and spoke to the owner named Logan to let him know of the situation. The owner went beyond and took responsibility for the mistake and tried to get us the missing platter but unfortunately there were no postmates drivers showing in our area at this point, being that it was 2am. The owner of halal guys in Tempe then told us that he feels really bad and drove all the way from Tempe to the east valley, about 20 miles, and delivered us the missing platter at 2:30am! That's true dedication and exceptional customer service, this owner truly cares about his business and his customers! read more

Just stopped by and is 11:27. Their hours say they close at midnight on the app and door. Three people were cleaning up and ignored me at the door for 15 mins. Apparently they decided close early for no reason and didn't even have the curtsy to acknowledge me. Staff was rude and ended up finding a new place to eat. Def won't come back. Dry chicken sandwich. Dry pita bread. Hot sauce tastes like it should be on a burrito not a gyro place. sandwich was $8 fries were another $3. Bland and gross. The Tahini served with the Falafel was also extremely flavorless. Who rates this place 5stars? World famous? Horrible. read more

I am writing to let you know of a recent unfavorable situation with your Tempe, Arizona location, that I've frequented over the years since it's inception many, many times over - but will no longer ever return. Your management in this location is EXTREMELY unprofessional and beyond rude. Last night, I ordered a delivery thru UberEats. Much of the order was missing - including all sauces for all plates, all sides, and all the desserts. Your employee Rudy asked I drive into the store and pick up the remainder of the items? That totally defeats the purpose of the delivery service itself, otherwise I would have driven in, as usual. Or, she tells me to call Uber and have them send someone out. I did report the issue that evening to Uber - I heard back the next morning (today) - so that would not have happened! She tells me she's credit me - to come back - for those missing items - after much conversation, and attitude. Um, the meals itself are really subpar without the sauces. I mean - none of them came. Let alone, I was disappointed in the fact I didn't receive the side or desserts. I spoke today with another manager - Victoria - just as rude - tells me - she's not sure what i'm looking for, and she's not begging to be come back. I indicate I don't want anything further from them; I am just calling to inform her of her employee's demeanor and the fact I believe the right thing to have done was to offer a customer a proper similar order the next time the came into the restaurant. Not good. I really expected to like this, I've never had bad Mediterranean for before. I ordered the chicken pita sandwich. The chicken looked boiled and wasn't very flavorful. The sauce came in packets. That makes sense so it isn't soggy when it arrives. I also got hummus, pita and baklava. The hummus is disgusting! Super thick like a heavy sour cream. And a strange smoky flavor that I just don't like. Had to throw the whole thing away. The pitas were fine. You could tell the baklava wasn't fresh, possibly prepackaged. read more

I enjoy halal guys. They had really great meat which I hate to say I was surprised by. It tastes a lot like a gyro over rice and I love gyros. The only thing I would change is the rice it's a little hard and doesn't add much flavor if at all. It's nothing life changing but it tastes great and whatever that white sauce is - it's magic. I am so glad this place stays open late for college students. They are open until 4am I believe on Fridays and Saturdays! That's almost unheard of in Arizona - sadly - unless you want whataburger or filiberto's. The staff are always extremely nice and helpful no matter how busy they get. I always order the same thing: a regular chicken and gyro meat combo platter. Their white sauce is so addicting and I always get extra of it along with their red sauce. Whenever I ask for their red sauce they pause, look up and say "have you ever had our red sauce?" Because it's super hot to others lol; but I have a high tolerance for spiciness so it doesn't bother me. As for others I know, they cannot handle its spice level so I would say be cautious I guess. Cons: i wish it didn't take an eternity to collect enough points towards a free platter. I feel they should give out more points per purchase. But you do get a free platter on your birthday! Also, I noticed they changed the type of chicken they use and I miss the old one which was shredded chicken and it might have been white meat? Now, they are dark meat chunks, but to be fair, the people I know prefer it the way it is now. Again, it's so nice to have a different type of food option that is open late with such nice staff. This place used to be amazing a couple years ago, not sure what changed but the customer service / food has gone down terribly. Many times I've had a pickup order just to get there and have to wait in the line to get my pickup order! What is the point of ordering pickup then. Other than that the quality of the chicken and rice has decreased drastically which is very sad this used to be one of my favorite places to go to. We had tried out the free samples at the Halloween Yelp bash and finally were in the area so we decided to try more. It was easy to find. Parking was a bit werid and when we stepped out of our vehicle we were hit with the smell of weed from the apartments behind but we still ventured forward. The building was very clean and surprisingly empty for the time we were there. My daughter loved that she could customize her Gyro. My partner ordered the platter and that was plenty to share with our toddler son. We also ordered extra pitas and they were amazing. The only thing that was just okay was the hummus, the rest was da bomb. I can't wait to go back and fill up again! read more

Driving around the ASU area of Tempe and made an executive decision to stop by my old neck of the woods! I was very surprised to see this location across the street from my old apartment complexes back in my college days. I recently tasted the food from the yelp Halloween event at the Arizona center, so this motivated me to trying it out. I like the simplicity of the menu and have the option of a small or regular plate for $7.95. I went ahead and had the chicken/gyro combo, combined with tomatoes, lettuce , yellow rice , topped with the meats. My toppings included onions, peppers, olives and some white sauce I forgot how to pronounce . The pieces of pita was a nice compliment and overall the food was okay, not the best but good tasting meal for a quick grab n go! read more

Absolutely an advertising business ! The rice is full of colors, I asked a person working there do you guys use color, they said no! I can believe it is the real deal I eat Middle Eastern food everyday such as at the Tasty Kobob, YOS restaurant, Shawrma Paradise, Moroccan Paradise, and the good is soo much better and genuine, I used to love the Istanbul Cafe the food was way better and genuine compared to the fake colored food at Halal guys, unfortunately Istanbul Cafe has been closed for such a long time. I think this restaurant is overly biased I am not arguing about the price it's not overly expensive however I feel like street food in Pennsylvania, New York, Washington Seattle, even Texas and Illinois Chicago is better than this ! Manager was a soooo rude for no reason, just seemed liked she didn't like her job and was taking it out on her customers. I came here with 5 other friends and saw fresh meat being made so when we ordered we asked if we could have that instead of the meat that was crusty sitting in an open warmer, she said it's going to be a minute so we said okay and sat to wait for the meat. A few minutes later she said just so you know all the meat is fresh with a sarcastic attitude. We said okay but we'd still like to wait she rolled her eyes!!!! Love the flavor. Hate the experience. The hours are not as advertised anywhere. It seems to be the only location that won't take online orders (but they used to). The staff and management appear untrained and unhappy to be there. It's such a downer I don't even consider eating in the store. I really like the flavors, though. First off - This was my first time ordering and eating at this establishment and I am very disappointed. Ordered pickup and the website was easy to use. Then went to pick up and the food was not ready as there was a platter missing, so I had to wait. The lady who provided service at the counter was rude and acted like I did something wrong, very off putting. They even double checked the bag because of the missing item so I assumed (wrongly) that I would be fine without checking my bags. I get back to work and the pita chips and hummus are missing. My husband and I got take-out from here bc it was open late after I had gotten off work and it was just....terrible. My chicken pita had dark meat in it which was really weird, and iceberg lettuce...and the pita was soggy. I was starving so I was going to just suck it up and eat it and after the 2nd bite I pulled a hair out of my mouth. It was definitely not my hair...ew. I figured I would just eat the babaganoush but upon opening it I realized the stench coming from it was so putrid that it must be rancid. $25 wasted on a bunch of crap we couldn't eat. Customers beware! The red sauce is super spicy! But delicious. A few drops and my mouth is on fire! I like how The Halal Guys is one of the few places that open late. The food can be inconsistent which is why I give it 4 stars. When it's good it's really good and I finish all of it. When it's not good, the meat can be too dry. I think it's better to ask for the white sauce on the side. That way, you're in charge of how much sauce is mixed in. The Pita that they give isn't fresh and warm which is something I don't like. read more

My fiancée introduced me to Halal guys when we visited New York City and I immediately fell in love. We were both excited when we found that there were locations in the Phoenix area. It's no frills food, and that's what we love about it. I also do the combo plate, with white sauce and a little bit of the hot sauce. Be careful with that hot sauce, that shit is hot!!!! This location delivers through Ubereats to my work, which is always a nice lunch when I'm craving it. Sometimes at the restaurant the service can be so so, depending on the time you go. read more

Horrible customer service & overall experience. They're were literally 6 customers in the whole store but between 4 employees they couldn't get a single order right. My bf ordered a gyro sandwich no tomato, I ordered a falafel sandwich, that's it. Simple & to the point. No sides, no drinks, nothing but two sandwiches. Unfortunately when they started to make our sandwiches, they got mixed up. No big deal, right? Just take the tomato off the gyro, & add some to mine... but NO, they threw BOTH sandwiches away after we had already waited 15 minutes for them to be prepared. I absolutely hate wasting food, especially meat dishes because it's terrible to think an animal lived it's whole life just to be thrown away. Plus it's insanely wasteful & bad for overhead & eventually pricing. The employees never once apologized, they were all rude & running around like chickens with they're heads cut off. There's no evidence you can't be an asymptomatic carrier even while vaccinated and I would imagine halal guys doesn't want to be tied to an outbreak bc unmasked workers spent hours breathing on open food. This place isn't my favorite, I would say the best items they have to offer are the chicken, pita bread and white sauce but the reason for the low score is because two of the employees were pretty rude to an Uber Eats worker the other night. It was busy and the shop closed early but they didn't put up a sign explaining why. The Uber Eats employee came up and knocked on the door and showed her phone through the window. The worker mopping the floor saw her, ignored her, and turned around to pretend like he didn't see her. The woman behind the counter literally flicked off the lights while ignoring her. After knocking three times the worker opened the door and said they ran out of meat and beans and the Uber Eats driver asked if the manager was aware they closed early and he said the woman behind the counter was the manager. Not very good when the manager ignored an uber eats driver who was just trying to pick up an order. It's completely understandable that they closed because they ran out of products but they didn't put up a sign explaining that AND they ignored the woman multiple times and then were rude to her when they finally opened the door. Could not have had a worse experience! Ordered online for pickup. Was told our order would be ready in 20 minutes. Got there and there were only 2 girls working. My husband told them he was there to pick up our order. The one girl rolled her eyes and said "Look at all these tickets. Your order isn't ready. It's going to be at least another 20 minutes!" Rude, but Ok. We'll wait. Then we noticed that people who were walking in and ordering were getting their food right away. Again, my husband went up and asked the girl behind the counter about our order (we had been waiting 45 minutes at this point - over an hour since we placed our order). The girl said "Walk ins are our priority. Not online orders. We'll get to your order after." Seriously?! Then why allow online ordering?! It would've been faster to place a new order as a walk-in. Needless to say we cancelled our order and left. This place lost our business for good. I don't mind waiting when a restaurant is busy. But rude staff and being told our order wasn't their priority is just wrong. read more

This is a good place to go for Middle Eastern comfort food -- and plenty of it. Service was fast, but there aren't a lot of tables. The menu is pretty simple. My son and I chose the chicken and gyro combo, which came with plenty of both. The rice was very good, there was a small salad of lettuce and tomatoes, and the extras of onion, green peppers, and olives added a lot of flavor -- especially those olives. On the sauces, unless someone is adventurous or likes things pretty spicy, I'd advise sticking to the white sauce. It's a spiced up yogurt blend that I think of as Ranch Jr. When the server asks if you want more, say yes because the usual portion isn't enough. Two sizes are offered. The large is only $1 more than the small and a lot bigger. Both my son and I couldn't finish ours, so took them home for another meal. I also bought a 2-piece box of baklava, thinking we could have it later. But my son declined -- and yay! to that. It was excellent. read more

I'm not sure which location comes to our building with Fooda, but I get excited when I see them on the list! I get the platter with lettuce, tomato, rice and chicken and three lines of HOT sauce!
