We've been here twice in the last week. The first time was on a Saturday for a late lunch, and enjoyed the Benji and the Tofu Banh Mi. We ate inside at a table; there was a line, but it moved pretty quickly and for a small place it had a decent amount of seating at the counter, along the window, and a couple of tables inside. There may be seating outside, as well. The benji was the star of the show. It's a really great mix of ingredients and sauce; we enjoyed the chickpea salad, as well. The next time we came, we ordered sandwiches to go. We tried the Takeout, Mumbai, and the vegan Jojo. The Mumbai was very tasty and different than how I expected. The potatoes are cut very thin and stacked with a creaminess on top. The takeout and Jojo were good as well, and the Banh Mi, but one thing that is consistent is I wish the tofu was more flavorful. The tofu is soft but could use some more seasoning They were out of the chickpea salad the second time we went so we got chips; the chips are far too salty. This place is incredibly delicious! I got the caprese and added ham. The ciabatta was the perfect texture - not hard at all! The pesto sauce was delicious too. My husband got the Italian and loved it as well. It's a small restaurant but we got there right as it opened and had no issue getting a table. The reason for 4 stars is because they don't have any high chairs. Super unfortunate for us parents but our toddler was loving it I get it's a small space but even the clip on options or booster seat would be better than nothing. I didn't check out the bathroom so not sure if there was a changing table. read more

After seeing The Half on social media my daughter and I decided to give it a try. This small shop was in a cute old building with a lot of exposed brick and had a patio out back. Service was quick and friendly. The sandwiches are delicious and plentiful. I had the caprese. The pesto was amazing and flavorful and the ciabatta bread was perfect . If I had it again I would request a little extra balsamic. My daughter had the Rachel and was as equally pleased but would have liked a little more dressing . The rye bread was particularly good. For sides we had a pickle which was sour and just a little spicy at the same time . We also had the cucumber and tomato salad that was expertly seasoned . Finally we tried the house made kettle chips . Loved how they came in a paper bag and were seasoned with what seemed like Old Bay. The sandwiches are mouth wateringly delicious, make sure to keep an eye on that specials menu! I recently tried their daily special "The Darlene" which featured paper thin sliced roasted pork, broccoli rabe, picked onions, cheese, and I opted to add the spicy mustard which was very spicy but so delicious. My husband ordered the Ernie's Cold Cuts which had mortadella, salami, ham, fresh mozz, red peppers, and balsamic which he said was also delicious. Excellent! I hadn't been back here since it was Detour but it was great to find out the sandwich game was still on point! I had the Bahn Mi with Turkey and spouse had the Rachel . Both came absolutely loaded with meat, no skimping here- felt reminiscent of NJ delis- and prepared perfectly on, what you can definitely tell, was VERY fresh bread. Had a great little side of their marinated chickpea salad with a dash of curry. We also chose the hand cut kettle chips dashed just the right way with a bit of Old Bay. We were only there for lunch but they have a great beer selection for a later date and time of the day but we will definitely head back to this great little spot! read more

Delicious deli spot. We had no issues with street parking. Fast counter service and small amount of seating indoor and outside. Friendly counter service and kind check in as we were eating. As vegans so very grateful for the 4 options on the menu! The best is the Asian broccoli sub with an add on of tofu! Yum, so bunch flavor. Knocking off one star because one sub (Jojo) says it can make a deli sandwich with three meats. It is the most expensive on the menu at 14.5. This does make it sound like vegan faux deli meats will be swapped. Nope it was tofu strips, if this was written on the menu we would have ordered something else, more satisfying and cost appropriate, like the chickpea salad. Would appreciate a little better labeling as well! But truly did love everything and would come back just needed to share the honest feedback :) read more

Lived up to the hype. One of the best Italian subs I've ever eaten and I've had a ton. My boyfriend got the chipped ham which is unique, I'm a southerner so never heard of it or had one before and it was good but I liked the Italian more. Great seasoning and the meat is sliced soooo thin. Love the shredded lettuce & onions. I think this may be a seasonal sandwich so check before you go. VERY friendly service too. So many great food options downtown so I rarely do repeats, but I will definitely be going here again. read more

If I could have a sandwich for my last meal, it would be at the half. I'm a very picky eater but I bravely went in and asked the owner what he would order, and the Rachel sandwich was a full mouth-gasm! Highly recommend getting the potato salad as a side, the herbs tasted so fresh. The bread was chard and soft but had the perfect amount of crunch. The flavor got stronger as I kept eating in the car, I ended up downing the entire thing making a huge mess. 100% worth it. Came in about 1:00 on Thursday. About 3 people ahead of us in line. Ordered pretty quickly. The sandwiches were very tasty. The chickpea salad was not the greatest. I had the cold cut and daughter had the banh mi. There's a patio out back with about 6-8 tables and a bench. Granddaughter got a splinter on the table. The wait for the food was incredibly long. The Half is a NC-style corner Deli. Situated in a older storefront, it can be hard to find, down one of the original brick-paved streets and especially if the Wilmington sanitation trucks are parked out front during their lunch break (it's street parking only). The Half is narrow - literally like a half a sammich. Three communal tables, a bartop lining the windows and about six counter stools - so expect to sit and eat with strangers or not at all if it is busy. And the AC struggles. The menu is limited with a dozen choices, five being veggie (tofu, eggplant and broccoli! Broccoli?). For relocated Penn-Dutch, they offer a Chipped Ham - before you need to head back where you came from. Selections occasionally change. On my first visit l had the Tucker. Sliced turkey on a Ciabatta. Made in front of you, very fresh on a spot-on roll. House made chips are served in a paper bag, HEAVILY coated in an Old-Bay-style seasoning and were a little greasy. Cut back the dust by half and they are winners. Cucumber tomato and onion salad is close to what I make and was good. Beverages include a few local brews on tap. Owners and workers are very proud of their shop and sometimes will talk up regulars at the expense of those waiting, but they are super nice folks. Definitely worth a visit but try off hours before 1130 or after 1pm if you don't like standing or eating on top of each other. There is limited outdoors on a few tables in the back alley. A solid sandwich choice (not the best I've ever had but better than most in Wilmington) - four stars and a chip. read more

Finally a place that lives up to the hype! If you're considering it, just give it a try! I can tell I'll probably become a regular here. It's got a sort of hipster vibe in there. Art on the walls for sale and lively eclectic music. Would recommend for a lunch date with a friend. I love that they are open on a Monday when many of my other local favorites are closed! I also love that they have a surprise patio in the back (can't see it from the front of the restaurant, but there is a sign inside to show you were it is). I think this is a wonderful option for vegans especially because there are so many choices and even non-vegan options can be made so with a couple swaps. It's so wonderful to have a sandwich that doesn't feel like a bunch of condiments slapped on bread or something made with faux meat that tastes like chemicals! They do excellent work with tofu and their sandwiches are satisfying! Chips have a little spice to them that reminds me of "old bay." I will say that one of my sandwiches was made incorrectly or maybe I was given the wrong one, but it was the lunch rush and it wasn't a big deal (I ordered a few to try anyway because I'm pregnant and indecisive). Was expecting a vegan Tucker, but got something with tofu, vegan cheese and a very spicy sauce. Parking could potentially be an issue, so plan ahead to look for parking if you're coming during a peak time. read more

Delicious food, ice cold beer, over-and-above service-- all in the cutest little sandwich shop you ever did see. My bestie and I tried The Half while he was visiting from Denver. The place was hoppin' but a table opened up very quickly. The person at the cash register was incredibly warm and friendly. We ordered the wrong (sour) beers, by mistake, and didn't realize until we had each taken a gulp. Our friend at the cash register cheerfully traded our sour beers for another type. Impressed! When you hear of a place called the half, you would expect for the sandwiches to just be halves but these bad boys were huge! This shop is located in the Brooklyn Arts District, in a cute house looking building. It is smaller inside but does have an outside sitting area in the back. You order at the counter, where I got the turkey sandwich with pickle chips. The pickle chips is just a bag of chips with a pickle in it. I did not love the seasoning on the chips but that is my only complaint about the entire place. My sandwich was the tucker with turkey, lettuce, tomato, provolone, balsamic, romesco on ciabatta. The flavors all complimented each other and the boys in our group were practically drooling as they were eating their lunches. Great spot! read more
