Was told to grab menus and sit ourselves and that's the high point. Food was inedible and even the Caesar's Salad managed to be screwed up. Service was the worst I have had in a long time and I felt like the entire restaurant staff could not care less if I was spending money there or not. Food was really really bad. Gumbo tasted like there was rotting fish in it, chicken tasted old and grainy. The calamari was barely OK. When Slick Lips first opened, a neighbor raved about it. But the reviews have consistently been mixed so I avoided going. Finally went to check it out and have gone back a second time. Sat at the bar both times where the service was excellent. I can't say enough about the baked oysters. Got the char-grilled the first time which were very good. But the winner are the Oysters Baytowne. The oysters were battered and fried perfectly (I'm very fussy about how and with what oysters are battered). The sauce was delicious and perfect for sopping up with the French bread provided. This dish is listed as a starter, but it's a generous portion. Enough to share or eat as an entree. My husband had the fish tacos with the special fries. Good but not spectacular. I had the mahi sandwich which was also generous and good. If you're a sangria lover, skip it. Many poor reviews cite the poor service. We did not experience that while sitting at the bar, but while we were there a gentleman went to the bartender to complain that he and his companion had been seated by the window and ignored by every server. I really enjoyed this place! It wasn't too busy when we came in, so everything came out pretty quickly, and everything was delicious. The standout for me was definitely the garlic Parmesan oysters...so good! We also tried the gumbo, fresh oysters, deep-fried oysters, and calamari, and everything was tasty. A nice bonus was the outdoor seating, which was great for bringing our pup along. Only downside was the water, it had an unpleasant tap taste. The fresh oysters were so delicious just fresh and briny, good size for this time of year. I also had the charbroiled ones but the chef got a little carried away with the seasoning and were too salty to enjoy. The Brussels were good a bit to aldenta for me I prefer them roasted a bit longer not as raw as they were but overall flavor was delicious. The service was impeccable my beautiful bar goddess was very welcoming and wonderful made my night just perfect. Love the beach bar vibe all the food I saw at the bar looked really good. I'll be back to eat and try the rest of menu soon. We spent the morning walking around the Palafox market and needed something to satisfy our appetite. We've been wanting to check out Slick Lips since it opened a few months ago, so decided to grab a patio spot for brunch. We ordered a couple Bloody Mary's to start out with and looked over the brunch menu. I knew I wanted the BBQ shrimp because I had them at Brunchfest a while back and they were so good. My wife decided to go with the avocado toast. The Bloody Mary's came out and looked great (missed the pic opportunity). Unfortunately, they were lacking flavor and seemed a bit watered down. We added their house hot sauce and were able to get them right. Food came out and looked amazing! A good portion of shrimp although I wish it came with a bit of grits to soak up some of the sauce. Flavors were on point! The avocado toast was topped with pickled onions, sprouts and arugula salad along with 2 fried eggs - a filling brunch option! Our server was in training but doing a fine job checking on us as needed. We are excited to try more from Slick Lips and are glad to have them on Palafox. Their patio is great for people watching and enjoying the fresh bay breeze. The interior looks really fun too, so I'm looking forward to dinner there soon! read more

Discovered this place today when looking for happy hours around 4 on a Wednesday in downtown. Raw oysters are $1.00 each for HH and we had 2 dozen that were fresh, cold and plump. Before we even crossed the threshold, she gracefully approached us as we hovered over the menu like tourists studying a treasure map. She offered her help without pressure, just good vibes and Southern hospitality. That initial contact set the tone for what turned out to be one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. Once seated, Haley delivered that rare blend of personable charm and true professionalism. She took a special request from us--one of those "hey, I know this might be annoying, but..." asks--and handled it like a pro. She set realistic expectations, didn't sugarcoat the kitchen's potential response, but passed along the request with grace. And shout out to the kitchen for coming through! Now let's talk about the Sidewinder Fries. Haley gave a description so vivid, so poetically indulgent, I swear Anthony Bourdain is up there somewhere tipping his hat. Think: if a curly fry and a steak fry had a beautiful, golden, crunchy love child--it would be the Sidewinder. Crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. She wasn't lying. Just dropping in to say that when Slick Lips opened the tip was built into the price. Prices were very high as a result. Since then, there have been mixed reports about whether tips are included or not, and due to the confusion and the still relatively high prices customers are not having a good experience and the servers are turning over at a fast pace as a result. There is much better seafood to be found in Pensacola, and at places not far from this location. read more

It was a one-man band, but I tell you what, he was incredible. The service and wait staff was exceptional and accommodating. We did have a bit of a hiccup with our food. We placed our order, waitress put in order and somehow it disappeared. So from the time we placed the order to the time we received our food was super long. Our waitress was very sweet and the owner came around to tables after the meal to ask how everything was - we also found out the bread pudding (which was to die for) is his grandma's recipe. So special! Another highlight of this restaurant was how well spaced out all of the tables are and the volume - it's such a rarity to find a restaurant that doesn't smush tables on top of each other, so we LOVED the seating and the fact that it doesn't get crazy loud in there! 10000% recommend the fish or shrimp tacos and the bread pudding for dessert. Yeah, pass on this one until they get some help in the back of house. The staff we interacted with (Host/manager, asst manager/auxiliary bartender, and waitress) were fantastic, super friendly and understanding. We sat down (party of 4) and put our drink orders in which were all on the menu, so nothing crazy. Our water/soft drinks come in about 5 mins, and one of us adds a beer to the order. It took 20 minutes to get our alcohol because apparently there's only one bartender. We ordered an appetizer that showed up with the food 50 minutes after we were seated. I ordered the "Slick Burger" off the menu, but apparently it's not offered any more. Waitress told me tonight it's a double smash burger with everything the Slick Burger comes with, so I ask for mine to come out medium. App and mains comes out hot, calamari is actually amazing, as is the shrimp and crab pesto. The 14 oz ribeyes were thin and seasoned weird, so much so that we asked for A1 to smother them in. My burger was 2 dried-out hockey pucks, no pimento cheese, no condiments. The bacon and onion strings were perfectly crispy however. They did comp my burger which I didn't ask for but it was appreciated. It's Valentine's Day and there are still empty tables so the ambience is nice, not loud at all. We dined here this past Friday night while having some friends in from out of town. There was no wait when we arrived and were seated promptly. We tried ordering some calamari but were told they ran out which was a bummer, we ordered the barbecue shrimp and tuna dip instead. For entrees my husband got the crab crusted snapper and I got the shrimp and crab pasta. My pasta had no shrimp and they also added what looked like chopped up hotdogs. It was quite off putting.
