Visited from FL. The wait list situation is really strange. If I remember correctly, the host told us he'd find us when are our table was ready. There's nowhere to wait, except for a stairwell bench, which is awkward when people are coming up the stairs. We opted to wait outside. Once seated, the experience was ok. You eat here for the atmosphere, the location, and the cool building. I'd recommend stopping by for a beer on the balcony. But thats only two tables, and the its one of the best photo ops in town so be prepared to wait. The menu has many German main stays as options for your meal, but they need to revive their love for the food. Two of our group ordered the Ruben sandwich and both said it was excellent and that they gave plenty of food. Another ordered sausage with potatoes and red cabbage and said it was very good. Another had the Goulash and said that generally, it was good except that it was extremely meaty and was used to it being soupier. Another had the Hühnerschnitzel (chicken schnitzel) with sides of vegetables and fries and said that it was all very good. The restaurant had the tables well spaced apart to enforce social distancing for COVID-19. However, the restaurant seemed to be needing an update and seemed like it was "tired", according to one person in our group. The bathrooms also were not very clean. Stopped in Helen Georgia for a day trip and decided to try the Heidelberg. I was happy to see the table socially distance and the employees wearing masks. Unfortunately even with the last number of tables it looks like they were understaffed because the service although not bad was inattentive. We ordered two bratwurst for the kids, a Reuben and a sausage sampler. All the food was pretty good. The strudel dessert was warm and delicious and you got that German vibe eating in this place. We would probably try some of the restaurants in Helen but this one is worth a shot if you want specifically German food. read more

Drove over from Tallulah Gorge for some German beer and schnitzel. After reading the menu outside, my family and i decided to give it a shot. We walked up the stairs and waited to be seated. The lady asked how many people were in our party. After stating "5", she went over to a table by the door to the outside deck, removed the dirty glasses and silverware and then placed new silverware and menus on the table for us. SHE DIDNT EVEN WIPE THE TABLE DOWN!!!! I did it myself. Nonetheless, i cleaned the table myself. We ordered the potato pancakes for an appetizer. I ordered schnitzel with mixed veggies and buttered noodles for my main course. I also ordered a dunkel. The food was good but the service was so so. Tipped 8% to my normal 20% for quality. We had a lovely family dinner at the Heidelberg a few nights ago. The music in there is a little too upbeat and techno for us and the service was lacking a bit but the food was awesome. The pretzel appetizer is a must have. It was fresh and soft and the beer cheese was phenomenal. I had a Reuben with spatzle as my meal. The others with me had the Jaegerschnitzel and Cordon Blue and said both were pretty darn good. read more

Holy Cow! Holy Moly! Geez Louise! THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING!! I'm not sure where to begin. We arrived on July 3rd around 6:30 for dinner. Helen was bustling. Restaurants were packed. We were greeted by 3-4 young people, all very friendly. Nice change of pace these days. We asked to sit outside on the balcony and they seated us right away. THE BALCONY IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU SHOULD SIT :) There are only 4 tables, so it's like semi-private dining. Our server was Amanda. What a sweetheart. Very attentive. Never missed a beat. She appeared and disappeared almost telepathically. Great suggestions. Now ... about the food. It was our first time to Helen, and I read a number of reviews prior to choosing this place for dinner. I knew the portions were generous. But I wasn't prepared for what we received. The plates were gigantic and the quality was magnificent. My husband is German. His family lives in Germany. This place is the real deal. We ordered the Riesenbrezel pretzel served fresh out of the oven with cheese and garlic butter Holy Cow! Big as a carving platter! Followed by entrees of Weiner Art and the Schlachtplatte. BOTH WERE ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. We are still talking about dinner 24 hours later. For sides, we had potato salad, red cabbage and egg noodles. All fantastic. The egg noodles are unlike anything I have ever had before. Can't describe them. The were buttery and crunchy and yummy. Oh my! We sat on the balcony and listened to the music from the Bier Garten below. We stayed a couple of hours nursing a few beers. Amanda was so gracious. Everyone we encountered gets 10 stars. I wish we could go back again, but we were just passing through. What a treat. Great food. Good memories. Thanks to all. Don't change anything!! We are from Los Angeles and we're rarely impressed. I had the Goulasch with German potato salad and Chris had the Jagerschnizel. Food was very tasty although not as good as some of the other places we tried in town. I'm not a beer drinker so I asked about mixed drinks. Our waiter suggested one so I went for it. When it arrived he stated that they didn't have all the ingredients for what I ordered so he improvised. It was a sugary mess. The place seemed extremely clean with a staff that, for the most part, were COVID compliance (a few had half-masks - covering their chin vice node and mouth) but I get it. Food - great. I would give 4.5 stars if it would let me. My husband and I had dinner at the Heidelberg this evening. We were a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews on here, but wanted to try it out. My husband ordered the bratwurst thinking it would be like what we get from the grocery store back home, but it wasn't. The waitress we had was so kind to bring him something different and did not charge us for what he didn't like. (I can't remember her name, but she was sweet) I had a house salad and bratwurst and enjoyed it. Overall it was a good experience and I would probably go back if I were in the area. read more

Saturday, April 5, 2014...Tony and I was visiting Helen, Georgia. Our first time and we loved it. Tony and I enjoyed the German Experience. This was Tony's first German experience. He didn't live in Germany like I did. I wasn't that impressed but I was very happy with the entire time. Reminded me so much of Gatlinburg, Tennessee area but with a German Theme. We parked at a city lot for $5 for the day and walked over to Helen Square to enjoy the live music from King Ludwig's Bier Garden below us. We climbed up the stairs to the German Restaurant above the bar. We took a city on the balcony and day/weather was excellent. The weather was a very mild and non breezy 68 degrees around noon. We took a picnic style seating table on the balcony, Tony ordered a Warsteiner Dunkel Bier on draft and I took a soda ( too watered down for my liking) and then we ordered, I chose the Bratwurst with brotchen (bread) and Saurekraut with German stone grinded mustard and dill pickle spear and chips.. Tony ordered the same but with Knockwurst, Brotchen and saurekraut...We split the sandwiches and the Bratwurst was both of our favorites. The Knockwurst was good but Bratwurst best.. We sit there and listened to the country music they were playing in the bier garden below at King Ludwig...I wish it had been more authentic with Oompa music..but it was fun. I tasted the bier and it was very good..I am not a dark bier lover but it was really good. We went down to the bier garden below after we finished our food and drinks. I would go here again!!! But, I would order something else next time maybe some Jager Schnitzel..Go and enjoy!!! Great tourist spot with great prices. Not gonna give you the amazing restaurant feel but out of all the the restaurants we've been to in Helen this is by far the best. The bear is great and the service matches. The waiter was super friendly and pronounced all the meals and drinks in better German then I speak. My husband loved his dinner, I tried it too and it was pretty darn good. This restaurant is convenient. It's right in the main strip, they were able to seat us right away for lunch and the server was friendly. But...it is lacking. The food was ok. The service began to lack once we received our food. And we waited 20 minutes for our check. From my observation there were 2 servers for the entire restaurant and 1 bus boy, who also delivered the food. While the restaurant waa steadily buay i would imagine they anticipate the lunch rush I had a garden salad, boring choice on my part. But i wasn't that hungry. My oldest had a kids burger. He asked that it not have cheese but it was served with cheese. He powered through anyways. My youngest had a hotdog. Both boys enjoyed their meals. They asked for drink refills but never received them.. Our server was so polite but we were neglected I would not return (not even for convenience). read more

First off the customer service was great !! Our server was not only funny but quick as can be. Our app came out and was so good. We got the pretzel and beer cheese. It was huge. The beers were ice cold and very tasty. The schnitzel was massive like in Europe and fried to perfection. The potatoes and sauce were so good.
