Always LOVE coming here for a great bite to eat. They offer all day breakfast options including waffles, pancakes, breakfast burritos, omelletes, etc. The lunch menu includes sandwiches, salads, and plate lunches such as pork chops, liver and onions, etc. The decor is "Farmstyle" with red checkerboard tablecloths and a checkerboard floor, cute poultry figurines and farm life paintings. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure that we had what we needed; she even made us to-go drinks for the road! I had the taco salad which was Huge in a big taco shell - you could also have it served as a traditional salad if you prefer. I asked what the protein was and I was told ground beef, but she could see if they could make it as a chicken taco salad instead. I asked her to surprise me, and she brought out one made with chunks of seasoned chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream chopped inions and salsa which was very tasty. My friend had a tuna melt, which is her favorite meal for lunch and a side of onion rings. The sandwich came out nicely toasted with melted cheese and a thick layer of tuna salad. The onion rings were beautifully fried with real onion rings inside a crispy brown coating; she usually shares the onion rings with me but she must have been so hungry and they were so tasty, that she ate them all by herself! We then had to decide from a long list of desserts, including, pies, muffins and cakes. We split a slice of coconut meringue pie, which was quite heavenly! We come through this area quite a bit, so we will definitely return. read more

Truthfully, a very unassuming place with great food and a witty menu. While I neglected to write down our servers name, she was great and we drove her crazy. She didn't bat an eye and was patient. This is a great place in downtown Inverness. It is a sister business to "The Diner" in Floral city. The waitresses are always very sweet and some of your favorite waitresses might be seen in one place or the other. The food is excellent. They are one of the only places that can get your "over medium" eggs cooked just right. I have had lunch here, which was good, but the breakfast is the best. I would highly recommend this business when you come to Inverness to visit downtown. read more

When you're driving through a remote town and find a great breakfast spot, that's always a win. It's not easy to find a great spot by any means, but when you do it's always satisfying. The Hen House Cafe is definitely a winner in my book! The service was solid. Nothing particularly memorable service wise, but they were moving a lot of people in and out. We were seated promptly and immediately ordered coffee. The coffee was your typical diner coffee. Bland flavor profile, but thankfully not burned. That's what I usually expect from spots like this. I had an egg white veggie omelet, which contained peppers, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and cheddar. Breakfast potatoes and a biscuit were my sides. Very pleased with my meal. The omelet was cooked well and the veggies were very fresh. The biscuit was fluffy and had a nice texture. The potatoes weren't oily, which made me very happy. A little too salty for my taste, but I imagine a lot of people wouldn't mind this. If I have the opportunity to return here I most certainly will. I recommend The Hen House for anyone in the area. Quick note - no mask mandate here. All staff had masks on, but no other customers did. read more

The king had his usual 2X 2x2 (pancakes, well done, bacon, crisp, and eggs, scrambled regular,) along with a couple of his usual extra sides smoked sausage split into Well and Patty sausages well. The service was phenomenal as it always is today we had Stephanie. There were lots of customers about. This is our regular Saturday morning at 10 AM @ The Hen House Cafe. It never fails that we see someone that we know - the ambiance is kind of like "Cheers" but in the morning and for lunch in Inverness Florida. Best local restaurant in the universe. A shout out to all the staff and the management. is the proprietor, sometimes busy but a great service really helps. Takes me back in time, everytime. Service is great, everyone is a character in a good way. The food is fantastic. Have been a few times for breakfast cannot comment on the lunch. Eggs Benedict is on point, pancakes are as big as your head, back is crispy and delicious. Home fries are great if they're slow, get them well done. Hash-browns have been great every-time. OK, so been coming here for several months and went today and the food was not the same. The waitress said the cook quick and will not come back. What a shame, pancakes were great before, never needed syrup or butter, now they are a mix and leave a film in the mouth. The omelets were nice and big before, now they gave me a small omelet and it was dry. So sad, it was a great place to go, won't be back, BRING BACK the old cook!! Update! We ate here again after the owner said the cook did not leave and found out from another waitress that the cook left and the owner is also not cooking so will not return or recommend this restaurant for breakfast. read more
