What a great little soot tucked away in the middle of downtown Austin! It's right by the a-loft hotel which I've been to many times but never really around. I just happened to pass it on a walk and tried it out. The coffee was satisfying but the big pull fir me was the workspace. I wish that I could give them five stars but requiring a mask makes that impossible. I think that they have good coffee and the treats are definitely tasty. I really liked the coffee cake. I'm happy that they are still open after the shutdown. I really miss the cool interior decor. They had cool chairs and now it looks like a standard coffee shop. It's a cool coffee shop and I hope that a little more time will bring back it's former glory(if that is possible). The shop is cute with a really cool concept and the coffee is decent. The staff was friendly and efficient. My only complaint is that the breakfast tacos were flavorless and had the consistency of dust. I wouldn't recommend trying those. read more

Spacious interior. I enjoyed the oat milk cappuccino. Very creamy, low acidity and bite. I thought this was a very nice coffee. I wish they had some more snack options. I ended up with a plain bagel with strawberry jam. They toasted it, came out as expected. It seems they hosted a lot of specialty events here like improv. Stopped in here for some quick coffee in the morning, I know there probably could've been somewhere better near by. Service was nice, but she recommended getting their banana bread because it's super moist & their best-seller. Honestly this was probably the worst baked good I've gotten in general ever lol. It tasted rough and like a refrigerator, it 100% was not fresh. Their coffee was also okay, nothing too special. She said this place has been here since the 1940s, I'm surprised they haven't perfected their coffee within the long timeframe they've had. There were all kinds of the tea leaves in small bottles. He, the barista, even lets us smell the tea leaves from the bottle which had unbelievable aroma. The Hideout Coffeehouse was hidden, in fact I almost walked pasted it. It was very close to our hotel stay in ATX. The Hideout was closed to inside ordering and seating due to Covid19 TX re-shutdown. They had a window open where you could walk up to and order. They asked for you to wear a mask, which I was doing anyway as TX at the time of this visit was a HOTBED for Covid cases. The employee took the time to explain to me the menu and when ask what his favorite was; he suggested the Hideout Hazelnut Iced! the Iced Hideout Hazelnut was super tasty, partner let me try it. He stopped to get another one during our Bike ride around Downtown ATX and the riverfront. I decided to get an Nitro Cold Brew, with a slash of Oatmilk and SFV vanilla. It didn't disappoint. Pros: We were looking for coffee but didn't wanna try the usual places we have back at home and we found this little gem of a coffee house, that also serves as a theater. They also sell wine, beer, pastries, and sandwiches. I ordered the regular mocha, it was good. Cons: If you are into strong coffee, make sure to ask them to add one or two shots of espresso to your drink. Mine needed the extra oomph. Would like to return for a play. read more

Usually the Hideout is a nice cozy and comfortable coffee house to get some work done or relax, however today I had an irritating experience there. During normal open hours I arrived and the door was locked, however a customer opened the door for me and I entered. We waited at the register for about 5 minutes and a few employees arrived from the back, an older woman and young man. The older woman immediately said "the door was locked for a reason" as she went over to open the door... then when we get to the register she said masks are required to order (which I'm fine with even though every other business in Austin does not require this any longer). I put on my mask and ordered, then she refused to take cash. Lastly, what REALLY struck me as irritating was that the young man behind the counter next to the older woman was NOT WEARING A MASK. To me, that is highly hypocritical and sends the message of "Hey, I think YOU the customer are dirty." I popped into Hideout on my way to work and got a matcha latte. The interior is nice and chill, it's your typical coffee shop vibe. Maybe I should've opted for a typical latte but the matcha latte was not my favorite. Basically, it wasn't bad but it didn't knock my socks off by any means. As far as the location, it's in the middle of downtown. If you're already in that area, it'll be easy to get to but if that's your first stop plan parking is going to be difficult. These tacos are THE BEST PRICED for the size, flavor and pairings of ingredients AND NOW I CAN PRAISE THE GREEN SALSA! Wow it is my favorite! There was only one person working. After he took our order he disappeared into the back. We waited at least 10 min before we saw someone else come from the sidewalk, jump into the coffeehouse through the window. He then served food to people who had been standing with us long before we even ordered. Then that same person then got our attention apologized for the wait and said they refunded our money. When we peeked in, we didn't see the first person in there anymore. The second person said their machine couldn't make our chai teas and he apologized and gave us free iced tea instead. I would've given 3 stars for making us wait so long but I think the second person was trying really hard to remedy an uncontrollable situation so 4 stars! read more

We saw an improv comedy show here on a Friday evening. Some of the comedians were hilarious some were not very funny. I appreciated how they got the crowd involved in various skits. The baristas were rude and one was on their phone the entire time, except for when i tried to pay with cash and rudely told me they only accept card- which isn't a problem, but maybe give me some sort of greeting before telling me how to pay. The drinks had very little flavor and we're just very sweet, even with an extra double shot! they were also watered down with very little coffee flavor. It was a bit packed since it was Saturday night and there was a show in the theater. We ordered a couple of pumpkin pie latte, which were delicious ( and I am a fan of the PSL from that one chain coffee shop), you could taste the pumpkin pie and the spices. My guest ordered the Dirty Chai Latte, he mentioned that his wasn't that great, it was too bitter. Soon they will be serving sandwiches soon in the meantime they have cakes and pastries.
