Better half is such a cool concept in a great part of town. It's got a nice outdoors space, and a small indoor space if you're lucky enough to be able to grab. We went for brunch and cocktails. I don't know if the person was having a bad day or what, but the person taking our order was quite rude. Not just to us, but to others lined up as well. The food was solid. I got the breakfast sandwich and one of the frozen cocktails. Probably wouldn't do the same drink again, but next time will definitely be trying one of the coffee cocktails.
Such a lovely outdoor patio for weekend brunch! Lots of shaded tables and beautiful trees to enjoy a meal outside. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed, every single outdoor table was full but some of the picnic tables were long enough to share which is what we ended up doing. Even though it was very busy our order really didn't take long at all. You order at the counter and are given a number there to bring to our table which is nice. They had one of my favorite ciders Smell the Van which I loved! And my fiancé had one of their iced lattes which he said was excellent. For food I tried their new sandwich, the FRIED GREEN BLTomato SANDO (english muffin, bacon, lettuce, fried green tomato, remoulade, farm fried egg) and my fiancé had their CARNITAS HASH (crispy fingerling potatoes, pork carnitas, fried egg creamy poblano sauce, pickled red onions, cotija cheese). My fiancé loved the carnitas hash. My sandwich was pretty good; I don't think I'd order it again though. I think it'd be better without the spicy In-N-Out style sauce on it and if they offered it on sourdough instead of the English muffin (since it's stacked so high it's really messy to eat). One thing that was a bummer was that they don't carry ranch dressing. I wanted a side salad but they only had a vinaigrette dressing which I'm not a huge fan of so decided not to order the salad. I'd definitely come back and try something else on their menu though!
Decent little coffee & cocktail joint. I've had one visit and it was good. It's a diner/coffee shop/cocktail bar rolled into one. The service was rad! The Sloppee frozen cocktails are insane. We shared a seasonal one (can't remember the name) and it tasted like an Almond Joy. So good! They have lots and lots of outdoor seating and they share it with Hold Out Brewing (though Hold Out has a ton of seating as well). Nice size parking lot in front and a larger shared lot in the back. Great atmosphere, welcoming and laid back.
Stopped by during a busy Sunday morning. Unable to order to-go so waited for everything to come out then boxed it up and went on my way. For being a busy morning waited only about 15 mins! Inside seating is small and has a cozy cafe feel to it. Then outside is MUCH larger and more of an outdoor patio space. Breakfast sandwich was good, but LOVED the lemon cookie cold brew. I'm usually not a cold brew person, but if every cold brew was like this one, I'd be a big fan. This is NOT overly sweet and has just a hint of lemon cookie in the cold foam. Highly recommend getting it if you can! As appreciated all the different parking options. There are two small lots in the front the a much bigger one out behind and is a very short distance away.
Easy parking, tons of seating -- great for solo visits, laptop days, group hangs, whatever you need. The bar is a great spot to sit and take it all in. The energy here is warm, buzzy, and genuinely inviting. The kind of place you come back to just to be in the room. Ube Matcha -- A cool combination. The ube adds subtle hints that play nicely off the earthy matcha. Runs a little bitter and won't blow your mind if you're a matcha purist, but the flavor pairing is creative and worth trying. Chicken Pozole Verde -- Ordered this on a rainy day and it could not have been more perfect. Hearty, warm, and made with care -- shredded chicken, creamy avocado, crisp radishes, and pepitas all in a comforting green broth. Could use a little more salt but overall a really satisfying bowl. What stands out most is the menu itself -- the flavor combinations here are genuinely unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. There are at least five other things I want to come back and try. A great spot any time of day.
Awesome spot for lunch and co-working! They have a big free parking lot out front which really separates them from other businesses in this area. I had one of their special lattes and my friend had the matcha latte. We set up at the bar and enjoyed our drinks while waiting for our food. This is like an old time diner that has been renovated into a super cute and trendy cafe! I love the ambience and they have a ton of outdoor seating as well! The wifi was not great the day we visited, but luckily it started working eventually. I had a huge salad with grilled shrimp and my friend had the vermicelli noodle bowl. Everything was huge! Super fresh and filling. Nice people! I will definitely go back. Great local spot!
Very chill place to meet someone for coffee or lunch. The outdoor patio definitely has a classic Austin vibe, with the abundance of grackles and flies and picnic tables. Ya know, in a good way. The highlight was the pozole verde soup. This wasn't a traditional pozole, but it was an absolutely delicious variant. Chickpeas, cilantro, shredded chicken, avocado, and an extremely flavorful and balanced broth. I'd go back just for that soup - light, healthy, delicious.
I love all the outdoor dining spots in Austin! This place was perfect for brunch on a sunny Sunday morning. There's a huge outdoor patio space with a ton of tables and greenery. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and the addition of a hashbrown on it was chef's kiss. The fried chicken on the chicken biscuit was SO good. The breading was the perfect thickness with a great crunch while the chicken was still juicy. Bonus points for being able to pay through In Kind!
Ordered the Carnitas Hash and was presented with a wonderful display of color and flavor! Almost all the bartenders and waiters greeted my girlfriend and I which is a plus! Even though it seemed busy, the flow of traffic inside and out was never congested. Thanks to Heather, Jake, Spencer, and Harry for such an awesome experience! It was a beautiful Saturday morning at 70 degrees and we were looking for a cute and dog friendly breakfast spot to meet a friend. Better Half Coffee won in our research since it seemed to check all the boxes. Large outdoor area, plenty of free parking, coffee, food and cocktails. To order you have to either go inside to order at the counter or walk up to window from the outside. Then they will give you a number and bring you your food and drinks. Our drinks came up right away at the counter and then our food came out quite quickly to our table. For coffee I went with the Rosemary Lavender Latte. It was absolute perfection! I didn't need to add any sugar or anything else. It was perfect as is. For our food we all went with the Better Half Breakfast Sandwich. One with bacon and one with sausage. My boyfriend and I weren't super hungry and shared one. It was more than plenty to share. We both left very full. I think the unique touch is they have a nice crispy hashbrown in the sandwich. Also they have all the condiments to take to your table. Sriracha my fav! Overall such a cute place to visit when it's a lovely day and lots of dog watching. There was an adorable cat that I guess lives there and was lounging around near us and trying to play with our dog. Only negative mark I would say is it's right next to the train tracks and that horn is very loud! Lol
Having to visit some family at Zilker later in the afternoon, I decided to spend some time at a coffee shop in the area and continue my endless journey to find the best latte in central Texas. This led me to Better Half right off West 5th Street in Austin. As I pulled into their parking lot I scanned the QR code to pay for parking, but found out they validate parking inside for three hours. IMMEDIATE W and I had not even bought anything yet. They had their brunch menu ongoing as well as a full cocktail bar, but having just filled up on lunch, I went just for the coffee. Inside is small but cozy with booths, tables, and bar seats to sit at plus a beautiful outdoor space with plenty of extra seating perfect for a fall afternoon. Their food, their pastries, and their cocktails all looked great, but again I was there just for a latte. I went for their specialty Rosemary Lavender Latte with oatmilk to experience what their coffee menu truly has to offer. It was not long until they brought my drink to me and I enjoyed it. I thought it was a fair and fine latte. Nothing mind blowing and nothing perspective changing, but it was good. The atmosphere is great and I felt very productive inside their space. I will be back for another latte soon enough. They also have alcoholic Slurpees/slushies that they call Sloppees. I felt like that deserved to be the last thing I mentioned in this review and is truly why the place deserves 5 stars. RIYL: Sloppee or coffee.
I've been here maybe 4-5 times and it never misses. Seating on the weekends kind be kind of hectic and annoying but once you get your spot it's fine. I'm a huge fan of the cauliflower bites and the beet ketchup! Also any dish with their fingerling potatoes is so good too! I've stopped by here solo a couple times just to do work on my laptop and enjoy a cocktail and their bartenders are so friendly and give great suggestions! An austin gem (:
Huge outdoor seating area at better half with fans, that is shared with a brewery makes this "backyard" ambiance to die for. I had the most delicious simple breakfast with a house made sausage, crispy hashbrown, butter English muffin/ homemade jam, and some eggs. The breakfast is perfectly sized for the price. This is such an amazing brunch spot! Sunday mornings are a must here. I had the chicken biscuit and a vanilla latte. Every waiter/waitress and bartender always asked if I was doing okay and whether I needed another drink (which I did, of course). I enjoyed the space and environment! I love this place! Lots of outdoor seating and a really chill atmosphere. The staff is so friendly and attentive. We went on a Sunday evening and it was pretty empty so we were attended to quickly. The cauliflower fritters are really good, especially the beet ketchup. The real highlight was the cruller, it was the best I ever had and one of my favorite pastries in town. Better Half served pancakes for our run group after a 10-mile run. They were the best pancakes! And for toppings, they had butter, berries (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries), sprinkles and chocolate chips. I only chose the butter and berries. Their syrup was incredible: blueberry rosemary maple as well as pure maple. Mark, the chef, slaved over a hot griddle to make the pancakes...a labor of love for him. He kept up with serving a long line of hungry runners. We were also treated to a free cup of drip coffee - hot or cold brew. I chose the cold brew because it was so hot outside...especially after the long run! They have lovely seating areas both in front and in back. They also regularly host running events in the summer with Fleet Feet running store. The series is called "Never.Been Better." And it's true! read more

They added a new menu item, the cheesy potato puffs that was the perfect combo of soft and crispy. They have a pimento cheese center and a slightly spicy but creamy sauce of the side. Really yummy and a must try. We also got the breakfast sandwich and breakfast plate. The BP came with a jam that was not too sweet or sour. We love this spot - great burgers and drinks and nice large patio to relax! We have come for brunch too and it's also delicious. Plenty of parking in the back lot and dog friendly patio The cauliflower tots are a great veggie alternative to fries I tried the carrot juice sotol cocktail and I loved it and the frozen gin watermelon is also amazing!! I've been here a handful of times recently as I started working down the street & it does not disappoint! The "purple drank" matcha has me in a chokehold, it's strong and delicious!! Service has been friendly & fast, drinks come out lightening fast. They have a really large outdoor patio for seating & there's usually always a spot available - inside can get pretty busy. Really enjoying this new spot for me & will definitely continue coming back! read more

Saw this on a WFH list and decided to give it a shot. First and foremost, it was very uncomfortable for WFH purposes. They only have a few outlets and they are by side windows with only barstools for seating. There are several booths, but there are signs at each one that state that laptops are not allowed at the booths. Barstools are the only WFH seating option, and best to come fully charged. The latte was pretty bitter, but a sold 3.5/5. The breakfast sandwich was a 3/5 -- pretty dry, way too crunchy (I had to put my back into cutting it in half), and bland. This would be a cute lunch/drinks/HH spot, but I won't be back to WFH, that's for sure. I did see that they had some picnic tables outside, which could be nice on a good day. Also, they have a free parking lot out front, which is always a plus. read more

This establishment has plenty of outdoor picnic table seating to bring a big group of friends. You order at the bar and they give you a number to bring to your table. They have staff to deliver your food and they come around pretty often to pick up dirty dishes. I had a breakfast sandwich with breakfast sausage. It came with a beautiful runny yolk. The hash brown was nice and crisp but be aware that it is fried using a lot of oil. They have multiple parking lots. You will need to remember your license plate number so you can validate your parking when you order. read more

Loved our breakfast at Better Half! We stopped in early on a Friday morning while on a quick getaway to Austin. I had seen great things online and knew we had to check it out. First- there is a lot of parking in the back if you need it- plus! We ordered inside before picking a picnic table outside. It was perfect weather to enjoy our coffee and Bloody Mary before diving into one of the best biscuit breakfast sandwiches ever. The sausage, egg, and cheese was amazing! We added avocado and a side biscuit with honey jalapeño butter. You read that right- honey jalapeño butter!! Delicious!! We were actually inspired to make it at home- but haven't nailed down the right amount of ingredients just yet. Put this on your list of Austin places to visit! read more

The ultimate in casual all-day dining with a patio better than home. I love a great hash and this one was pretty dang good - giant portions of roasted carnitas, pickled red onion, and a house-made poblano sauce. The taters were a little chunky for me, maybe out of fingerling this round. Wash it all down with a sparkly Rambler or bevy of choice. They're accommodating to all with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, NA, and milk-alternative options for food & drink. And so well pleased with the Better Half! read more

This is a great spot to meet up with your friends and family if you wanna have a good time, they have a good variety of food and drinks, including coffee, everything was really good and served in good portions, a must try is the cheesecake with seasonal jam, all the staff is friendly, you will have a good time here. read more
THIS PLACE IS A VIBE ! I love it in here! So clean and every single song on their playlist is fire ! Very cutesy cafe soft yet fun music. Think Sade or Kali Uchis. I would have taken a pic of the food but I ate it way too fast lol. Their breakfast sandwhich is perfection. A quick walk to Zilker Park. I had their oat milk latte and it's wasn't crazy amazing but wasn't bad either. But my overall experience was excellent! The chips and cheese was spicy but super yummy. They have these cocktail slushys too. I'm just so in love. Ample amounts of seating and service is quick. read more

Better Half is a popular brunch spot with tons of outdoor seating. It is open late on weekdays, so it's a good spot for a drink at the bar too. There is a run club that meets here Saturday mornings! I really appreciate that there is a large additional parking lot behind the restaurant. We got the lil' chicken biz and coffee after our run. The chicken biscuit was delicious with tasty jalapeno-honey butter. It was not enough for a full breakfast, but it was the smaller version of the normal biscuit. I also got the iced coffee, which I wasn't a fan of, but I am not a coffee person so I probably should have gotten some flavour or sweetener added to it. I just wasn't sure what the options were because they weren't written out, and I felt silly asking. Their portions seem small overall with higher prices, but their happy hour deals look phenomenal! read more

Honestly, I always have good service at Better Half! This time, Kansas was awesome! First, I got Mildred Pear as my drink! Ummm why would I not get a drink with my name ! It was basically an old fashioned with a hint of sweetness! My burger was yummy, I added some jalapeños to add some spice to my food. The carnitas queso was also enjoyable AND shareable. As always, i will definitely be back! read more

The kitchen closes at 10p. My friends and I walked in at 9:50 and they were very nice about letting us put our order in...even though I felt horrible about ordering so close to when the kitchen closed.
