Ever since moving to the city it had been a challenge to find a bar that I can call my home. I had passed by Hideout numerous times for months before finally going in one night. Really enjoy the overall vibe of the place, the artwork on the wall, the dark dimmed aesthetic, the drinks are very interesting, on the expensive side at times but you are going to get great quality drinks. The bartenders are extremely friendly and will give recommendations if needed. The times I have been the place has never been packed which is a good thing in my honest opinion because the overall vibe just seems to be calm and sophisticated which is great when you don't want to be surrounded by the typical bar scene you'd get in Cap Hill. If you were looking at coming in at some point, definitely give it a try. read more

I was on a hunt for trying out a new cocktail bar and i came across this interesting looking spot. Having driven past this all the time, i only now realized that this was the sketchy spot with all its windows covered with no real signage advertising the place, the only giveaway was a neon sign out front saying "Cocktails" This spot has a speakeasy vibe - dimly lit, interesting decor, with vibey music at a low volume. The cocktails were interesting in flavor combinations, and I was pretty pleased with my drink. Overall, the spot would be a great place to take some friends to unwind & strike up some good conversation, but i find it slightly overpriced for what it is. read more

As someone who works in this hood I can say that it is hard to find a good spot to just grab a quick drink after work without trekking up into capital hill. Good HH deals and a few snacks. We loved the Hideout! My boyfriend and I spent the day bar and restaurant hopping and this was our last stop on the walk back to the hotel. You walk into a dark dingy bar and it feels like a hideout. Their is local artists artwork everywhere from floor to ceiling and it really makes the place unique. The vibe is on point and the drinks were great. I am a huge fan of them showcasing contemporary local artists from the great Pacific Northwest. Most the paintings are for sale. Rotating weekly. So many original tasty cocktails but my Fave is the LA Paloma - Tequila blanco, lime, St-germain, sage, nectar, scrappy's grape fruit bitters. It taste like organsm in your mouth. I like this place. I had wanted to check this place out for a long time and last Friday, finally found a chance to. The outside, definitely does not match the interior decor. We came in around 8pm and it was already filled, not packed but getting there. I knew that I wanted to try the Andy Warhol, mainly because you get a polaroid! The Hemingway sounded good too, but since I quit smoking I knew I should stay away. When I saw that the Andy Warhol was $12 I was a little hesitant but I figured I might as well bite the bullet and do it. It wasn't until after the drinks were made that they realized there was no film and the camera wasn't working. We were bummed, but then they told us the drinks were on the house. Score! The drink itself was pretty good, after a few more drinks (which were pretty strong) we decided to hit our next destination. This place has a cool atmosphere, very much an 'older/adult' crowd. Dark as heck inside, but nice furniture. They have a cool art vending machine too, but I can't see someone spending $20-$200 on a piece of art (I could be wrong though, I am a poor college student after all). Save for the extreme cramped-ness and the fact that you had to ratchet your agressiveness up a few levels to get through the drink line, it was a fine choice. I don't quite remember what the hell i had, i was quite a few drinks in at that point, but it was scrumptralescent. The bartender was working at a crazy pace, they really should have had another person working behind the bar. We were all a little loopy at that point, so the great drinks, dimmed lighting and crowded quarters made for a really nice feel. I would have stayed and had more if i didn't have to catch a bus back to Redmond. *Sigh* Fail on Sound Transit and the last bus being at midnight. read more

What a cool place. Sometimes I wonder if I'm not cool enough to go, but then I stop questioning and have another drink. The Hideout is an unassuming little bar on Boren. The windows are blacked out, and all that alerts you to its presence is a black sandwich board on the sidewalk. Inside, it's very dark, and very noisy if it's busy. The walls are covered with art - very interesting art at that. There's even an art vending machine!!! Everything from handmade jewelry to tiny paintins is inside. The cocktails are also artistic and delicious. They run you about $10 to $11, but they are well-made. I've also seen people order cracker/cold cut type of snack plates. A negative is that they are understaffed at times, and the bartender is nowhere to be seen. I was left standing at the bar once for over 15 minutes waiting for someone to take my order. One person isn't enough to make food, elaborate drinks, and to cash people out. read more

This place is the pulse of the sleepy first hill neighborhood. Just like a pulse, sometimes it can be hard to find. But also like a pulse, you typically can identify it by the big bald bouncer standing nearby. Inside is dark and loungy, the walls lined with wrap around booth seating and art. The most notable thing is the art, as several interesting pieces hang on the wall, and I believe are all for purchase. There is a very intriguing vending machine filled with pieces of art, though fairly expensive pieces, and you can submit drawings on a sheet of paper that might be included in a pamphlet that circulates at the bar. The art vibe is one very fun aspect here. This place is very relaxing and fun to spend time with friends. Its a little cramped, yet at the same time you feel like you have your own little space. The music is kind of hypnotic and warm feel of being there. On a really crowded day this place could be hard to maneuver, find a seat, and get a drink in, also the bathrooms are gross, but otherwise highly recommended! read more

The hideout is truly a hidden gem if it wasn't for the small sign outside we would not have found the place. Our Lyft driver didn't even know as the building isn't marked just a black door. Lol. Very craft cocktail oriented with amazing art all along the walls. Certainly a place where hipsters tend to flock. Dimly lit I think they only had candles lit. Ambiance was incredible and really adds to the character of the city. There are so many unique places like this in Seattle that I absolutely love. There is a niche for everyone literally. While stumbling around Seattle looking for a place to quench my alcoholic beverage thirst, I heard about "The Hideout". Concealed along a strip, one wouldn't notice that it was even there! When you enter this bar, you can notice all of the art work on the walls. I mean there was over 30 pieces of art work which could be purchased and also admired. This is good for any conversation starter! The ceilings are very high so it makes this space seem more spacious. The bartenders must have gone to a mixlogy school because their knowledge of the drinks was extensive. The atmosphere of this place was very laid back. It's great place to socialize with other and even a nice spot to take a date! So don't be scared to ask the bartender what to drink as they're more the willing to help you on your journey to alcoholic bliss. read more

I really enjoy the vibes of the Hideout. It was dark and relaxed with descent music and thought-provoking art work on the walls. They have a vast assortment of cocktails and can even make you a custom cocktail if you describe what flavors you like. We did run into a weird issue where the bartender there that night claimed to not serve cocktails after 1am. There was no announcement about it being last call or anything so we were confused about this random rule. Before they shut down the cocktails, I had the Silent Protest being a Mezcal lover. It was herbaceous and refreshing with Campari, grenadine and fresh mint, which tied everything together. My friends ordered the Andy Warhol, which was a cosmopolitan that came with a polaroid shot. Yes, our bartender took a polaroid photo of us because it came with the drink. This cocktail bar had my favorite ambience of all the bars we went to in Seattle. Came here with Jill R. after a night at Town Hall after hearing her talk about how amazing it is.. and as much as she pumped it up, it lived up to all expectations. Really tasty drinks and neat ambience. It really feels like a secret getaway. My favorite drink was either the Land Shark (tastes like fire) or the custom drink - the option to ask the bartenders to make a drink based off a couple flavors/spirits. Gin, florals, spice... made something super tasty that I could only hope to have again. One note - the art is really an eclectic mix. If you went to art school, you're totally over and will roll your eyes at the ginormous-hard-to-avoid painting of a subhuman masturbating. The walls are covered in art. A lot of it is very interesting, there's something a little "off" about each one, which I like. There's an odd feeling to it, but as it is still a bar atmosphere you don't quite get creeped out. Except by masturbating subhuman. The bartender was one cool chick! She was the only one there when I arrived with my friends and was like The Flash going here there "be right with you!" zoom bang pour ka-ching "here's your drink!" I was so dizzy afterwards I didn't even need alcohol. (I drank anyway) The drinks, though each one seems to have one or two WTF ingredients, are pretty good. I love this spot! Came here the other night for a nice Saturday night cocktail. It may not look like much on the outside but once you walk in there is so much to offer! I got this blackberry drink which had glitter in it and was beautiful. My partner got a drink he loved too. The bartenders can make one killer beverage and were so sweet and attentive. I love the mystery in this place. We came here last night after a board meeting at the Puget Sound Blood Center for some team bonding. The bar is really dark, so it takes a few minutes for your eyes to adjust to the room. It's a small bar, so there's not much navigating needed, but there is definitely a lot of great, innovative art to oogle at. I know that's what I did for a few minutes. A few paintings really stood out to me... especially this one of a beach but it was shaped within a heart. It was really cool. I just really loved the variety of moods, feelings, and sentiments that were conveyed on the wall of art at the bar. I just ordered a vodka cranberry which tasted normal. There are a few couches for people to lounge around on which was nice. The bartender was quick and efficient. The bathroom is clean, huge and nice! First of all, this place is seriously cute. The artwork alone makes it definitely worth a visit. However, decor alone does not make a great establishment. I wandered in here last night after a VERY long, VERY draining day. Just looking for some type of kindness and compassion. I wasn't even planning to come here, it just happened to be the place I walked past. But Gdamn I'm glad I did. I had the most lovely experience here. The bartender, Chloe, was SUCH a fantastic human, just one of those people who instantly makes your day better. This girl deserves a raise. She went out of her way to make sure my day got better. Best date locale ever. Just make sure you explain to your date exactly how to get here, or you'll feel guilty for making her walk around First Hill for 15 minutes wondering if she just got Punk'd. It's on the west side of the street, just north of Madison on Boren. Look for the "open" and "cocktails" signs in red neon. The humble exterior belies the super-sexy, intimate and artistic interior. Nearly every inch of its high walls are covered with cool works of art from local artists. The music that night took us on a wild journey from the Velvet Underground, to Dolly Parton to Justin Timberlake. The bar is expansive and their bartenders make fantastic drinks with a fine attention to detail. They've a modest selection of quality beers on tap and some excellent Belgians by the bottle. Their cocktail menu has some very interesting creations. I tried their rhubarb manhattan, which I thought was good, but a little too bitter for my taste. Fellow Yelper Eugene C. recommended their cucumber gimlet--which I didn't see on the menu but ordered anyway. I requested it with Hendricks gin and it was divine--a perfect balance of lime, cucumber and gin (although sadly the unique flavor of Hendricks was overpowered by the other flavors). My hot date enjoyed her vodka & sodas and we shared their tasty hummus plate. It was nothing too fancy but was filling. It came with a variety of crackers, artichoke dip, hummus, tapenade and a medley of peppers. I'd have liked some toasted pita and feta, but you don't come to the Hideout to eat--you come here to drink. I can't wait to bring my friends back here! read more

This is a cool bar, man. It has a beatnik arty vibe that you can't help but admire. I felt I needed a black beret and some bongo drums. There is beautiful, scary, thoughtful, and straight up wacky art on the walls. The furniture is art deco and whimsical and the pictures in the back make you wish you knew a rockstar. How can I fail to mention the art vending machine? The Hideout is unrecognizable from the outside. The windows are blackout with a red light that says "Cocktails". You can already get the sense you will be awfully surprised once you step through its doors. The space is dark and mysterious and leaves you wishing you had a room like this in your home. This would be the perfect place for a date. The bartenders were dressed so snazzy and made an excellent drink. Even though I had a standard and somewhat unexciting rum and Coke it was seriously the best rum and Coke I've ever imbibed. Maybe it was because they used exceptional rum instead of the cheap well rum I am used to or maybe it was just made with love but whatever transpired it was fantastic. I swear somebody stole The Hideout from Capitol Hill and tucked it away in a super secret spot where only those worthy of entering such a cool bar would be able to find it and then once inside would marvel at the dark and cozy atmosphere with the super fun artwork hanging from the walls. To top it off, you can even buy any of the pieces on display and they also have a vending machine that features even more artistic treasures...how cool is that! The bar staff here is one of the best I've seen from the friendly door man to the super cool and very talented bar tenders that handled any and all orders tossed their way and managed to put together some amazingly tasty drinks that had us coming back for more and more. For what seemed like a small space when you walk in, there are actually a lot of places to sit and there is just a real comfortable vibe so you don't feel cramped or crowded even when there's a lot of people...or maybe I was just really drunk! If I lived on First Hill, I would be spending probably way too much time here so it may be a good thing there is just enough distance to keep The Hideout on the fringes of my regular watering holes. There are tons of bars in First Hill/Cap Hill, and all are replete with way-too-skinny chicks (I am raising my hand!) and dudes with awkward facial hair and flannels they may have gotten from my father circa 1989. I mean, tons. But The Hideout holds a special place in my no-heart because these annoying cretins don't talk to me. They're far too engrossed in their own ARTSY lives to notice me, and I like it that way. My friends and I can lean back and enjoy the ride. I've yet to try this Cucumber Gimlet, as it sounds almost too ARTSY for me. But they make a mean vodka + soda. And they don't serve it with a smile, which is a good thing at such an ARTSY place. read more

It was a dark and moody bar. The weekday business face of First Hill has gone to sleep, and the Hideout is just starting to stretch its legs and get the night started. The Hideout is where you go when you've done your daylight errands and just need a cool place to hang your silk hat. And need a place to keep your eyeballs busy with eye-catching art. I get that. The service was fine but the drink prices must be to offset the artists' commissions. But it didn't bother me since I had already made merry at an earlier function and only bought a drink for the sake of holding something cool in my hand. Even though I was geeking out about drinks like every other poser/hipster who comes through, the bartender handled me with perfect courtesy and professionalism.
