I didn't want to give too bad of a review because it seems like it's a family business. I had the 10" New York style pizza and it was almost cardboard-like, not much taste at all. A couple next to me ordering a pan pizza and it took over an hour so they left, upset. It's rare that I ever give a low score but the rating would show that this would've been a better place than it was. read more

We went to Crave last night to celebrate my daughter's birthday. When we were seated, I let our server know it was a special occasion. She immediately told us the kitchen would be closing in 10 minutes (we arrived at 7:19 and they close at 8), which already made the experience feel a bit rushed. We ordered a deep dish pepperoni and sausage pizza, a Caesar salad, fries, and water. The salad and fries came out quickly and were good, but we waited until 7:52 for the pizza. During that time, several staff members including what seemed to be a manager, were loudly yelling back and forth across the restaurant about staffing and schedules. With no music or TV volume, it was impossible not to hear, and it felt very unprofessional. Meanwhile, our water glasses sat empty. I had to ask three separate times for refills, and the third time I actually had to get up and find our server at the bar, where she was sitting, still discussing the schedule. When the pizza finally arrived, it was delicious. But basic things like Parmesan and pepper weren't offered. I had to flag someone down to ask. And even though we'd just received our food, the lights on the patio were turned off while we were eating, and we were brought a box very quickly, which felt like a not-so-subtle hint to leave. Overall, the food was good, but the customer service and atmosphere really took away from what should have been a nice birthday dinner for my daughter. Very disappointing experience. read more

To our surprise they had our favorite brew, Karl Strauss Red Trolley ale. Although it takes time to bake things to perfection, the servers are always great and attentive. The restaurant is quite small with limited seating with the bulk of the seating being at the bar, but the pizzas are huge in flavor, as is the service. I think it was the owner or manager who helped us, but she was so kind and attentive! We had to sit outside in order to dine in, and she didn't forget about us at any point and really elevated our experience. Their pizzas are hearty and delicious. I'm not usually big on deep dish pizza, but Crave hits the spot. The butter crust and deep dish options are both pan pizzas with slight topping variations--butter crust = topped with cheese while deep dish = topped with marinara and tomatoes (I believe that's right!). I definitely recommend the butter crust if you're a cheese lover. I can't wait to return to try their thin crust~ Don't hesitate to try this place for your next pizza night! read more

Visiting my parents in Mesa and they recommended getting pizzas from here for dinner. I was unfamiliar with the place so was excited to try a new pizza restaurant. We ordered them to go as my father mentioned there's unlikely to be any available tables inside. We arrived and the outdoor patio is at the store front, two tables with a space heater. Inside was a very narrow restaurant and bar...mostly taken up by the bar. The bar countertop had about 12 seats and there were two additional tables inside, one for larger parties and the other for four it appeared. It was very crowded inside. As we waited by the check-in counter for the hostess to retrieve our food, we were bumping elbows and shoulders with the other patrons sitting or standing around. The hostess and workers were very friendly while managing the chaos of 4 or 5 people waiting for their take out order. Looks like if you want to eat inside you need to get there early to or at an off time to secure one of the tables. Arrived back at my parent's place to eat. We ordered two 14" buttercrust pan pizzas which ended up being the perfect amount for the six of us. Two slices were plenty for me as the pizza is about 1.5" thick. The crust was amazing- buttery, firm to hold up the pizza but melt in your mouth at the same time. Best buttercrust I've ever had. The pizza toppings were great too, albeit the sausage had little to no heat to it. There are other crust options available as well, including gluten-free and cauliflower. Their menu has other food I'm excited to try in the future- salads, sandwiches, calzones and some specialty chocolates. My parents may have introduced me to this place to try to get me to visit them more often! read more

We stumbled across Crave almost one year and I am so glad we did! Jennifer, her husband, and staff, are always so pleasant! The food is AWESOME! Favorite items include, caprese salad, beer nuggets (family fav!), the butter dish pizza, thin crust, and there's always a great rotation of beer and wine. Fall time is our favorite to visit because we can sit on the patio. For larger groups, I recommend calling in and saving a seat. It's small inside but well worth the wait! Used to be our favorite pizza place and recommended our friends there. But last few time quality and service went down hill. One occasion we came home and noticed order was wrong. During the last run pizza was completely burnt and absolutely inedible and had to throw it away. For the price they charge they should take time to control the quality. I recently tried a Crave butter crust supreme pizza for the first time and it was very delicious! Lots of toppings that tasted very fresh (you could taste the crispness of the bell peppers) and it was cooked to perfection....nice and warm by the time i picked it up and brought it home! I found the thin crust pizza we had to be over cooked. Sadly the gray haired man (probably owner) seemed to think my thought was ridiculous! His opinion was outside edges are more cooked and inside are not! So don't eat outsides edges! My opinion was outside edges were over cooked and inside pieces the same! No discussion with this man! I was very excited to try this place. I heard great things about their pizza and salads. The water had a chlorine after taste, the Caesar dressing on my salad was tasteless and the crust on my thin crust pizza was hard to bite through. customer service was not good either. This doesn't come close to the mom and pop deep dish pizza I used to have in my small town in Illinois growing up, but it's close to where I live now and I believe you do get what you paid for. The classic deep dish cheese pizza is tasty. I like the cheese, but I wish the outer crust was easier to get through, both with your teeth and by forking/knifing it. It's all in the name. When I head back to California tomorrow I will definitely be CRAVE-ing this pizza. Such a great find while visiting from out of state and some of the best chicago style deep dish we have had. PERIOD. The online ordering for curbside delivery worked out great. We started with the beer nuggets since they didn't offer or normal go-to, chicken wings. We were delightfully surprised how delicious these little deep fried pieces of dough were-very creative! As for pizzas, we had a 14" chicago style deep dish Meat Craver and a 10" butter crust Chase Field. Not realizing how thick and dense (in the best way possible, of course) these pizzas were, we were lucky enough to have leftovers to enjoy for lunch the next day. What a treat that was! That red sauce is pure magic. My only complaint was that I had requested for some paper plates and napkins if they offered them, but these were not included when delivered out to our car. Neither were any Parmesan, red peppers or the ranch that we paid extra for. Yesterday was our first visit to this pizza shop. We ordered a pan pizza with our favorite toppings to take out. We got home and opened the box to find a huge shell filled to the top with over an inch deep of sauce, Inside the sauce were little teeny-tiny pieces of the toppings that we requested. Tried the deep dish Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza. Loaded with cheese and sauce and a lot of flavor! Did not disappoint. So much better tasting than chain pizza like papa John's and Dominoes. Crave is a favorite at our house! Probably the best Chicago pizza you can get in AZ! Their deep dish and butter crust pizzas are to "pie for" lol pun intended! The pizza here is freshly made in house and it is clear they use top tier ingredients. Service is always friendly and they are a locally owend small family business. We've dined and in ordered takeout and the vibes are always chill. They offer wines and spirits as well as some non-pizza apps! I really wanted to love this place since it's so close to home, but after giving it two chances, I won't be back. The food itself is okay, but it takes far too long to come out for what it is. What really makes this place unpleasant, though, is the atmosphere. The patrons create a vibe that feels unwelcoming, especially to anyone who looks different from their "regular" crowd. On top of that, the staff always seem so stressed that customers come across as more of an inconvenience than a priority. Food's okay. Been there 3 times. Space is super tight and not very comfortable. Front of the house and customer service is terrible. Bad staff communication and poor attitude. They get a little busy and the wheels come off. Have seen it happen 2 of the 3 visits. Drove out there with a couple folks, no one was sitting outside, so I popped in and asked the owner who was behind the bar if we could sit outside - she said yes so we had a seat. Few minutes later some hostess / server with a bad attitude came out and kicked us out because apparently she told someone else on the phone they could come sit there. She handled it very poorly - we left without ordering and won't be back. I'll be taking my business elsewhere and advise all of my friends to do the same. read more

Gluten free eater and dairy light (which this review is not dairy light). Busy place! It's a tiny hole in the wall but well decorated and very cozy. Immediately they said it would be a 5-10 minute wait. We didn't worry at all we joked about standing in the corner. The guy behind the bar was very friendly. Soon as we stood in the "corner" we had menus and they asked a person to move over one bar stool to let us sit down. That's customer service. Already feeling good about this place. We had our orders as soon as we sat down. The cider was good and the tea was mint. So far so good. Minutes later we had our order taken. They have cauliflower crust and gluten free crust. He said the cauliflower was better. Although I try to go light on dairy. Today apparently wasn't it. The salad was basic and all had good flavors. The ranch was tasty. They put the the croutons on the side. The cauliflower pizza was decent. But gluten free pizzas are hard. No matter what they always are hard to compare to normal ones. My husband has a normal pizza and the crust was a bit hard. Overall it was average. The toppings were good across the board. We like more flavor but it was we a solid pizza. This little pizza bar makes the jump past pizza parlors and sports bars to a family pizza eatery. Charming, tasty, and wonderful, it is perfect for individuals or small groups. The location of Crave is in the strip mall on the southeast corner of Guadelupe and Sossaman. The restaurant is in a small unit, which holds its bar area and a single larger family table. The atmosphere is cozy, and the room, though holding just 20 seats, is not crammed. The outside windows are shaded, and the signage for the "open" sign is easy to miss, so be sure to walk up to the door before thinking it is closed. You don't want to miss eating there! We ordered the meatballs and ricotta appetizer, a 14" butter crust pizza (with pepperoni, sausage and basil), and drinks (including local brewed beer on tap). The meatballs were awesome and the perfect starter. The pizza was stellar. I have eaten multiple times at Lou Malnati's, Vero, and other Chicago style joints. Crave takes on those pizzerias and wins. The crust is perfect, not too heavy, and cooked precisely to have the crunch on the crust and softness inside. The pizza tomato sauce is delightful without being sluggishly sweet. Finally, the toppings and cheese were hot and delicious! If you love butter crust, Chicago style pizza, you should check Crave out. The staff is also great. They great you warmly, explain the entrées and are attentive and efficient. More than that, they seem intent on getting to know their customers, old and new. I heard several people come and go who were regulars and for us newbies, the attitude was very inviting. Wish they had longer hours!!! I told the guy that I had a funny feeling about driving over here but I couldn't put my finger on it.. turns out, they have evening hours only and not lunch hours. We drove all of the ways over there to find it closed! It's conveniently located in a strip mall. the only reason we've been wanting to try it is that it always looks so good in their advertising so we planned to drive over, and of course 5 hrs before opening we were sadly not able to report back on taste, etc...
