Superstition Skys Restaurant and Lounge is a legendary country western bar with a lot of history that has hosted many celebrities like Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Ronald Reagan during filming of western movies in the area. They have a back room and booth where Elvis would like to sit when visiting the restaurant. They have tv's to watch the game, live bands and plenty of room for dancing. Their menu is basic bar food including appetizers, sliders, chicken tenders, quesadillas, wings and wraps. Their service is friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the place. Ate here with 3 friends on 1-23-26. It was a pitiful experience compared to the enjoyable times there 2 years ago. My quesadilla had no more than 2 oz of chicken, tasted like an 1960s Mexican TV dinner and was served without sides. My friend's chicken wings were served without fries. We all asked for water--not bottles of water--along with our drinks and assumed it would be served in cups. Nope. $2 per bottle was added to the bill without notice. I went in there been a couple of months since I have been in. I was not told that refills cost extra if so I would have not had but one. I order a cheese quesadilla. The tea was very good and so was the quesadilla. The bartender was nice and served me well and I tipped her 5 dollars on 22.54 bill which is more than fair except she did not tell me that when the Damn snow birds leave that the owners f$#k the locals with these extra charges. Our months-long quest continues to try every Friday Fish Fry in Apache Junction and the surrounding area. We've tried all kinds but the best always seem to be at small western roadhouses off the tourist track where mostly locals hang out. Invariably we will walk in and everyone seems to be hugging each other, customers and staff alike. Some of these places have been there for dozens of years and their customers have been hanging out there for at least that long. When you read some of the uninformed reviews from out-of-towners they will describe such places as "dirty" and "old" and "unfriendly". No doubt they are comparing their experience to the shiny corporate conglomerate chain restaurants they normally frequent. I've put off going to Superstition Skies for a while. I tried one night and there was exactly one car in the parking lot. I didn't think I would feel too comfortable eating in an empty restaurant. Tonight was their annual Halloween party and that, combined with a birthday party and a few other things brought out a small but friendly crowd. The band was just getting started and already complete strangers were starting to get to know each other. Tonight's special was cod & chips. Most of the other things on the menu were typical bar fare. The staff here is nice and helpful but don't expect the phony pasted on smiles like you get at chain restaurants. My Friday Fish Fry quest dictated that fish is what I would order. Superstition Skies doesn't feature a specific Fish Fry per se, they just happen to have it on the menu. You don't get a lot of fancy breads and potatoes and salads with their fish dinner, just 3 large pieces of firm flaky beer-battered cod along with a good-sized portion of real French fries. The total cost is under ten bucks, which makes it one of the better values for fish dinners around town. It's strictly finger food, but I'm sure they would find you a fork if you asked. There are a lot of things I look at when I dine at any restaurant but when it comes to Friday Fish Fries I try to focus on two major things ... quality of the fish and overall value of the meal. On both counts this place ranks in the top percent in the area. Suggestion: do dress casual and go with an open mind that this is a cowboy bar/roadhouse. Eat, drink, dance and have fun and don't worry that the place looks "old". That means it's popular and well liked by locals. read more

She complained about the manager being on vacation and how many days she had worked in a row. Took 15 minutes to even get a beer. Too bad because this place could be a goldmine. Honestly, you don't get much more Southwest and country than this place. The atmosphere is great, they have live entertainment, great food, and the customer service was wonderful. This place is a staple in Apache Junction. It's where you'll find the native AJ residents and the winter visitors too when they're in town. I ordered a cheese burger and fries and my mom ordered steak. My burger was good but my mom is still raving about her dinner. So I'm guessing the steak is better. From the outside you might not be sure you're at the right place- it's located way out east near the Superstition Mountains. All and all- this place is a treasure. Friendly staff. The cod basket was not good. Thick breaded outer when I was told it was beer battered. Had to come out of a freezer bag. Burger was ok but not cooked to requested doneness. On our friend's birthday we decided to try out superstition skies bar and grill. The bar looks like an old home remodeled into a bar. When walking Through the door was an awful musty smell. While standing at the bar talking and waiting for our drinks a young waitress comes barging between two of my friends not even saying excuse me. Very rude. After A short time had passed The same waitress Comes barging through again but this time says "effin move!" I have worked in the service industry for over 30 years. This place will fool you. From the gravel parking lot, to the somewhat out dated interior, it will fool you. The food is absolutely awesome. Just don't order the brisket burger, they don't have it anymore. Jake cane out and explained that they no longer carry that item, and offered a replacement. It was a slider with smoked gouda and fried pickle skins, with a bacon jelly. I am low carb and asked for the sliders with a lettuce wrap. Jake even asked whether I preferred romaine or iceberg lettuce. Again, awesome. You have to try these sliders, and I recommend the lettuce wrap as to not mask the flavors. I love Skies! Totally a place you'd feel at home at - especially if you're from MN or WI. I can see why the get celebs in there from time to time. The beer is cold, prices are reasonable, and the bartenders (especially Jeff) are fun to chat with. They have pretty good bands and decent food. The nachos are enough to feed a small army, onion rings are better than the fries, curds you can skip, burgers are alright (ask for it medium). The place does get packed, so get there early if there's a band or if you want to watch football on Sunday. Oh, and they have there own kind of cherry bombs (that are not shots, but cherries soaked in booze). Good times! read more

Here for live John Denver tribute by my sister's boyfriend. Looking forward to the music!! Ron Matthews put on a very good performance. This is a small little bar. Probably not a location I would look to go to on a regular basis but for this special event. However, I can see where this would be a local watering hole for the locals around the area. I was disappointed that the menu was a limited menu because of the event. So I was only able to have a Cheeseburger. Nothing special. The music and performance was great. But not a bar I would tend to visit otherwise. read more

So if you don't know, I am a huge fan of hole in the wall bars and live Country music! This place fits both Categories on Saturday night. We came to meet my sister and my brother in law for a night of shenanigans. We got there around 8 and instantly, I was ready for a cold Coors Light, but the waitress had a different plan for me. She was waiting on the plethora of old snowbirds sitting down in the dining area and for 15 min just kept walking by without realizing we were there. I went to the bar to get my brew and when I got back like a bad joke she was there with beers... She was upset that I started a tab at the bar and told me she was going to switch the tab to her because if not the bar gets "her money"... That comment got me a bit ticked off because till I tip her, my money is mine. About 5 min after she walked off another waitress came up and said she took over our table and was super helpful. She honestly saved the bar from getting less stars then 5. We ordered some chow and in the meantime she kept the brews coming without fail! My wife and I got some burgers and you wouldn't think this place has good chow, you would be surprised! The burger was cooked just like I asked and my onion rings were perfect, not even a burnt piece. When the band got going I expected the same old country songs which I don't mind, but this band was different. The lead singer was maybe 35 yrs old and he was singing some current songs with some old school, I almost took off my boxer briefs off and flung them at the band on stage as a token of love for their music (not cause they were attractive but because they were playing all the good jams- also i'm not gay). One of the main problem I found is that they remodeled this place and forgot to expand the dance floor, so when I got going and started spinning my wife around I would get hit with a random walker, cane, or random old person would fall right into you. I felt like I was in a episode of the walking dead, these old people would pack the floor and just sway back and forth. There was a couple old guys that thought they were a part of the original cast of footloose and the dance floor was theirs. After a few times bumping into the older crowd I just waited for the fast songs, I knew old people couldn't dance to these without having a heart attack. We had a blast overall, ill definitely be back. Maybe next time ill buy a round of warm milks for the old people, so they can get sleepy and go to bed at a reasonable time! Let's start with the parking lot, it is dirt so when it rains it gets muddy and there is a lot of standing water. Parking lot is also poorly lit. We have been to Skies many times. They recently remodeled again. The continue to forget about the carpet wall. It smells like cigarette smoke and makes the place feel dirty. My brother and sister in law were already there and had ordered drinks. After my husband and I waited 15 minutes watching our waitress run back and forth across the bar without checking in on us, he went to the bar to get us drinks. About 10 minutes after that, the waitress arrived at our table with drinks we didn't order. She said she saw the drinks were low and just brought them over. She was irritated that my husband went to the bar because "then the bar tender gets her money". Luckily, another waitress stopped by the table to take over and was extremely attentive. We ordered bacon cheeseburgers and onion rings. The food was great! There was a live band. They played a ton of current country and sounded fantastic. The only downside is the dance floor is so small and gets so crowded. It is definitely an older crowd, so we stood out like a sore thumb, but we ended up having a great time. read more

This is a classic "AJ" old hole in the wall outdated bar. Burgers and ribs aren't too shabby but the soda has issues (lack of syrup and CO2). Nice staff and attentive owner! Don't let the parking lot fool you. This place has a lot of character. The bartender, the wait staff and the locals who inhabit this joint are extremely welcoming and friendly. Has anyone ever had an "Eddie Murphy" experience? Do you remember the movie 48 hours? When Eddie Murphy goes into the country bar and the music comes to a screeching halt and everyone turns and looks at him? Well the band played on at Superstition Skies Restaurant in Apache Junction on Saturday night, but I still got the looks. Now, having said that, I must say that as far as Country Bars go, Skies is a good one! The band played really good music, the service was pretty good, and I actually had a very nice time. The dance floor is big, and everyone was really friendly. I must have had about 20 people nod at me or say hello as they passed by. If you are interested in a nice "Country Bar" and you are in the Apache Junction area I would certainly visit. Looks and all, I had a nice time. read more

Skies is a country western bar at heart. Full bar, live music, dancing, good food, and a great staff. It doesnt seem as big as it really is from the outside. The food is typical bar grub and the menu won't overwhelm you, but it is still terrific. I've had the burgers and quesadillas more than anything here and both are great. On Friday and Saturday nights it can be hard to find a seat at the bar, by the band, or outside, but there's a lot of booths and tables towards the back if you show up late. Parking can be a bitch, too. They have hitching posts if you wanna ride in. The place is loud...clear and simple. read more

Been going to Skies for a few years now, had some of my best times there and met many great people, some life long friends, etc.,. Within the last few months a new owner came in and turned the place upside down, moving the dance floor, not a huge issue, should be expanded but it still works, the food.....eeehhhh, I'll eat at home. The atmosphere got changed up so much you feel like your being interrogated the second you walk in the door, is this a bar/dance hall or a holding pen for detainees? If the lights get any brighter I could work on my tan! The first thing the new owner did was 86 Harry Luge, HARRY LUGE, the biggest draw on Wednesday nights this place has ever had, not even a "I'll have to pay you less, or you can't come in as often", just a simple "your done", what a fine classy way to salute one of the biggest draws to Skies for all these years! We tried going back in a few times, we really have, but every single time is more disappointing than the last, most of us (locals) regulars have fled to other venues. Will this new owner make it thru to the next busy snow bird season, time will tell, but for me and most of the regulars, we'll be at the Hitchin Post if ya all are looking for us! read more

I've been going to this bar for years on Saturday afternoon. Alway had a good time and food was good. Went twice this fall food was not good, entertainment was poor. They put band on dance floor and today they put the music completely away from dance floor. They have a place for the band but will not let the band use the correct area. While on dance floor dancing you can't head the music properly for a good dance experience. I'm very sorry to say that our dance group is searching for a new Saturday afternoon dance facility. will never go back! Had a bad experience with the waitress there whose name was Tina. Firstly, we were there with a large group of friends and were told that we could only order from their "special menu" as they had an "entertainer' there and all meals were $14.95. I placed our order along with other tables that were surrounding our table. All the other tables surrounding us finished their meals LONG before I called and checked in with the waitress. I asked her what had happened to our meal and if they didn't come soon - we might want to forget it . She went into the kitchen and they must have wrangled something together. My husbands meal came - and then later came mine. Mine wasn't very hot. From ordering to food took almost one full hour! Yeesh! When the food came I then stated that I wished to speak to the kitchen manager. Tina came back after a long while and said he was "out" and "they had no idea when he would return" no offer to speak to anyone else - or to mitigate the situation. ......she was not pleasant or apologetic at all. By an aside the "Entertainment" was pathetic, the price for a meal not commensurate to a $14.95 charge for a meal, the service was rude and immensely slow. This waitress only seemed interested in serving drinks. I noticed another server, who was very attentive and fast on the other side of the room. I will attempt to write to the manager if I can find an email - I was disgusted ....I will share my experience with the many friends in the area.....NEVER Again!
