To be fair, if you do pay for the internet, the speed becomes much faster and the connection is much more reliable. This implies that they are intentionally degrading the network to drive their business model of charging people for internet anywhere throughout the building. Their coworking space is not quiet so it is very hard to focus and get work done there. They have limited phone booths for taking calls. Using a conference room (even a small one for a couple of minutes) will cost you either in points against your membership or charged. The seating in the main area is relatively uncomfortable and like I mentioned above it is not quiet. It is in the kitchen for the entire building so tenants from all over the building are walking through at all times during the day. In addition, the services they provide are very industry focused on marine and not really on technology or development. You can rent a dedicated desk and that is a viable service, but they are expensive. Something in the neighborhood of $325+ per month and then you are in an open bullpen. Standard membership is 200 a month for a floating membership and basically that provides you quality internet and access to the building 24 hours a day (if the door badges are working). In my 10 months of membership, there were at least several months where the doors were not working and I could only get in when the coffee shop was open. You can also get a daily drop in membership which is about 35/day and is the same as the standard membership. If you are looking for a quiet place to work, I would suggest the library. The internet is faster, the environment is more conducive to work and the seating is far more comfortable, though the coffee is far better at Simple Merchant than in the library.

The building itself has a creative feel that makes it easy to stay focused and excited about what you are working on. It is also right in the center of Newport, which is a huge plus since good workspace options in the area are tough to find. If you are looking for a place that blends community, inspiration, and convenience, this is the spot.

The WiFi quality and A.C. both work really well- which is super important when you're trying to get a bunch of work done! I think the design is really intentional and beautifully restored and I noticed a ton of original pieces of machinery and decor reused from the original factory. The gal Sara(h?) that manages the property has been so amazing with answering my questions and even letting me in when I forgot my key card! A new bar, Far West, just opened next to the coworking space- I plan on stopping in all the time!! Thanks for existing, Rooms & Works!!

There are so many surprises within this one building. A bunch of apartments above, the shared office space and incubator kitchen on the main level. A bocci ball court, cornhole, grill and picnic tables in the courtyard. There is also another building out back that is not currently being utilized but is another amazing (small) space for something amazing once they figure out its intended purpose. My favorite part is the amount of items they salvaged during the rehab. From machinery to metal drawers, they incorporated as much as they could into the overall aesthetic of the place. Kudos to a great job and preserving such a hidden gem.

The folks who run the space are friendly and welcoming, the wi-fi is fast, and the on-site kitchen has the coffee and other basics that you'd expect. I tend to soak up the environment, so if I'm in a bustling coffee shop, then I'll want to become part of the bustle. Hence, finding an actual co-working space topped my list of to-dos. Luckily, I stumbled across Sprout on Yelp, and even luckier for me, they are one of the few places in Providence to offer a day pass! The pricing was incredible given the free (fast) WiFi, the access to multiple kinds of spaces (including my favorite hot desk area with sprawling desks and large windows--though there are other places to work closer to cubicles if that's your jam), and free coffee/tea. There's even a cute little cafe a few hundred yards away to grab some quick lunch (closes @ 2 pm). The parking was also free (score!), though the lots are shared with an apartment complex/other businesses, so be aware that you may need to circle around a bit to find a spot. Overall, it was a great place to get some work done, and I'd highly recommend checking it out if you're in town for the day/week, and if you need monthly plans (and conference rooms), they've got that, too! Stacey (business manager) was kind enough to give me a short tour when I first signed in, and she had lots of great information to share. 5 stars without a doubt!
