Just attended a great "Drink in a New Language" Japanese Craft Beer event at the Holding Company. 17 different Japanese beers to sample and the chance to drink 3 full bottles once the beer samplings were done. Ashley, the server, was particularly charming & enthusiastically helpful. There was an interesting manned display which was an interactive smell-o-vision where you could smell ingredients that make up beer as well as smelling samples of substances that can be sensed in beer even though those ingredients are not in the beer itself. The man I talked to told me that one beer had oysters and another contained Katsuo Bushi/Japanese dried Bonito Flakes to up the Umami. There was a portable pizza oven and fresh thin crust pizze made from hand kneaded dough which had the right amount of sweetness, light toasty crunch, yeasty cushiness. The white pizza was mostly mozzarella & subtle puréed basil in what looked like Crème Fraîche giving off a dairy green herbal perfume along with a satisfying meatiness. The red sauce pizza was tangy from the herbed tomato sauce, pepperone. Some of the best pizze that I have eaten in a long time. They didn't have a business card, but told me that they cater often for events at the Holding Company. Bravo. There is an inside room as well as a larger outdoor space. Valet parking was available but I lucked out & found a parking space nearby. To sweeten the deal this event was free! 5 stars for the event itself. Why 3 stars? As a guest, I just found the space to to be just ok. Nothing special, nothing bad. It's basically a good working space. Nothing particularly memorable. What was memorable were the excellent pizze and the generosity of the Japanese Craft Beer sponsors. Kudos to those who made this craft beer soirée possible. Such a nice venue!! The outside is so nice, spacious and rustic! We got invited to a networking event and absolutely loved it! From the decor, walls, special lights outside and not to mention the indoor space. There's a lot of space for small and big parties here. I was just an invite so I'm not sure how much pricing is and all that but I have to say all vendors there were awesome. From the food to open bar just great. read more

Liar. Liar. Liar. Manipulation abounds. BRIDE BEWARE. Paid Will Greene $26,601 for my wedding rentals, food, etc for my wedding which was at another location. He lied about doing the work and I found out 16 days before my wedding. His venue was lovely but too small for us so I busted my ass to keep him involved because I believed we shared values. I admit I when I'm wrong and I was wrong about that. I fired him for lying to me and doubling down on the lie when caught. Despite having been paid IN FULL over one month prior, a mere 16 days before my wedding, I learned he hadn't so much as placed a rental order. NOT ONE. He had told me orders were in and just waiting for delivery time confirmation. I have all of this in writing. HE LIED TO ME. He stole from me. BECAUSE OF HIM, MY WEDDING WAS TRAUMATIC. He refused to refund my money saying that he hadn't "failed to perform" because my wedding wasn't OVER. Like, I was supposed to wait for him to not show up. Or show up with all the wrong shit because he hadn't reserved my rentals. Lololol. I fired him and borrowed about 75K to pull it off. It's a saga. My wedding was 5/9/2015. Today is 9/1/2017. I've been more than patient. He carried Talks of settlement until just around the time I could no longer dispute it. We went to court. The judge ordered him to do a settlement conference. In April 2016, we settled. He had to return all of my money and then some. Starting with a $13,500 payment due on May 19, 2016. He made it. Late, but he made it. Except then it bounced. Back to court. Get A judgement. He made progress in March, April of 2017, and started playing games again in May. His hurtful and abusive games carried on. He was never what I would call reliable except in that I could count on him lying to me and not honoring his word. I'm in recovery and have been for almost 13 years. I have done my best to approach this with an open heart. I've opened my heart to forgiveness and opportunity for redemption over and over again because it has so often been afforded me both before and during my personal recovery. It is how I have chosen to live in the world. We made some progress and it's down to about $10K remaining on the original judgement. He got mad because I shared about my experience in July after he again lied repeatedly and so he punished me by ignoring his COURT ORDERED debt to me altogether. I've been a fool but I will never regret being a fool for offering someone else the opportunity for redemption that has been afforded me by people I hurt. Anyway, I refuse to change who I am because of who others are. I remember something from a calendar I had when I was a teen "I've learned that how others treat me is more a reflection of how they see themselves than how they see me. (Fast Forward to October. The Holding Co. is a really cool event space located right outside DTLA, closer to Korea town. Its an outdoor/indoor venue with a really cool rustic loft feel. I could see that the place itself is a plain canvas- you can come in with your brand or party theme and make it into whatever you envision. I was here for an Olukai event. Olukai is a Hawaiian company so that was the theme. For their event there was a full bar, a dj, a slide show, a custom mural which was amazing by the way, a brand display table, and upstairs there was more merchandise. They had Hawaiian type food passed around by waiters- Hawaiian sliders, some type of sushi/poke dish, and they even had a luau pig. Those pulled pork sandwiches were awesome! Not sure if the catering was done in-house, but it was all very well done. There were a lot of people at this event, yet it never felt crowed. It was all really roomy and definitely cool. I would totally recommend this place for a party or company event. It was dope- for sure. read more

Absolutely love this venue! The space has a really cool vibe to it. The speakers around the space are perfectly placed to get people moving. We used the projector and a hazer for a cool effect and it really added to the overall feel. The Manager, Will, is a really down to earth guy who helped us out with anything we needed. The entire night, Will and his security team were present and highly alert. Meeting up with him the next day to take care of cleanup was a breeze, as well. I'd highly recommend this space! read more

In the 3 weeks since my wedding, I have been going back and forth on whether or not to write this review, but after all this time I'm still as upset as I was then, so I want to share my experience. This is obviously a cool venue, and for the most part the wedding went well. A few things on their end didn't get done perfectly, but that pales in comparison to the biggest problem of the day: WHITNEY THE WAITRESS. While all the other servers looked professional in all black and long pants, Whitney was wearing a leather jacket and a black romper with rather short shorts. When she leaned over the tables to put food down, they rode up even more. My husband and I aren't old and uptight at all, but this made us really uncomfortable. As the night progressed some of the guests took a liking to Whitney, and encouraged her to get in on the fun. I'm not too happy that they did this, but as someone who was WORKING and not a guest, she should have had the professionalism to turn them down in a friendly way. Instead, she got into photos, and danced with everyone! I really do not want some random in my expensive wedding photos, thanks. My mother told me that at one point she was CRAWLING ON HER HANDS AND KNEES (still in that short romper) on the dance floor, and my mom asked me if she was maybe on drugs. Eventually a male employee came up to her from behind, picked her up, and carried her off the dance floor! He couldn't have just told her to leave? Why so many embarrassing spectacles in front of my guests?? Weddings are a blur, I was a busy bride, so at the end of the night, I went with my maid of honor to talk to the manager about this disaster. He and the employee who removed her from the dance floor smirked the entire time I explained what I just wrote here, and even chuckled when I mentioned her being carried off the dance floor. The manager defended all their behavior and said they try to be "LAID BACK". He totally blew off my concerns, didn't apologize at all, and I left feeling so disrespected. I was horrified. You can be a fun venue without a woman crawling around showing her ass to my wedding guests. After that, no one reached out to me, nothing. We paid them thousands of dollars to be made uncomfortable on our wedding day. All I wanted for my wedding was for my guests to have a great time, and I feel sick thinking about how many people witnessed that mess. I absolutely 100% would NOT recommend this place because of their complete lack of caring and professionalism. And thanks a lot, Whitney. read more

Recently went to the Holding Company for a wedding and the space is pretty cool. Very hip and urban with the flexibility of making t your own. The venue is very small and if you're having a wedding with more than 120 people, good luck. The reason for my low score was the horrible food and service. The food tasted either too bland or too salty. The flavors of the food were quite interesting but not in a good way. My friends and I were actually sick after eating the food. The main reason why this place didn't work with us is the service! The waitresses were rude, inconsiderate, and inconsistent. Overall I do not recommend this place unless you have a small wedding and can vendor out catering and other services with other vendors. Because the space is super cool, I just wished everything else that came with the venue was up to par. read more

Teetering between 3.5 and 4 stars, I had attended a wedding here and so the review isn't so much about the process of the wedding, just the overall experience from this place. :) It was great that the Holding Co. came with free valet parking for the wedding so we didn't have to worry about finding a parking space. While the venue was definitely rustic hipster feel and looked very nice, I just found it to be a small event place for a wedding over 70 people. The wedding day was on a warmer day so it was already hot, but because there was so many people one couldn't stay inside where all the tables and charcuterie board snacks were because it was SO stuffy (I guess there's no a/c?) with body heat and odor that I had to stay outside for the remainder of the wedding event. There was an open bar and found the bartenders and the food to be pretty good with a cool and interesting way of preparing their pizzas. The dishes ended up being pizzas and tacos, the pizzas being freshly made in front of you (although I find this method to be rather time consuming, cool-- but took more time) and wood fired ovened to perfection. The lines for food was ridiculously long though. Lol. I ended up getting the tacos and the server was more than accommodating to the fact that I didn't want tortillas with mine. Had a good time and the venue was pretty, just really small and tight if you decide to have an event with 70+ people at once. read more

My son's wedding was here and it was the best wedding I've ever been to! The food was delicious! The servers were accommodating. The bartenders were super friendly! It felt like I knew the staff, that's how nice they were. The best part of the whole experience was our pictures! The venue looks so awesome in photos! We were here recently for a wedding. Great space with really cool decor. A little hard to find. Entrance is in an alley and it's in a part of town where you are not expecting to find an event venue. That being said, for smaller events the space is interesting and unique. The wedding and reception were both held at the space. The event coordinators were exceptionally well orgrnanized and it all ran like clockwork. We found the food to be excellent as well so surprised at one of the posters comments that it was sub par. I was born and raised in LA and we now live mainly in Las Vegas so we are in a hospitality town. We have fairly high expectations for vibe of a space, food and service. We thought they did a tremendous job here all the way around. Kudos to the owners and employees! read more

Came here for a work related event and was very intrigued at the setup. This location has a little of everything for any event. First they provide valet upfront which leads to a short alley that leads you to the entrance of the location. After entering you think you are going into a garage but are surprised that its actually an open venue immediately. Walking a bit farther takes you to the back where you enter another small building and more open space. The way that the company that invited me to the location set up was great. The only little downfall to this place its is location, many will think its not a "safe" neighborhood but its actually not as bad as it seems. If you stay within the vicinity of the venue when you arrive or are leaving you should be fine. Our event had a security guard outside which gave us that extra safe feeling. I would recommend this venue for small 150-250 guest event. I think after that it may get a little crowded. read more

Consider one thing before you book this venue. Consider it is 10pm, your alarm clock is set for 5:30am, and you know you have a very busy day ahead of you tomorrow. As your head hits your pillow, the sounds of a party next door ring in your ears. You can hear every beat of the base drum. You can understand every word in the song that is playing. You can hear every high shrilled laugh. You toss, you turn. 11pm. "Ok, if I can just get to sleep right now it will be just enough rest." Toss, turn. 12pm. "Ok, I have had enough." Wide awake now you phone the police. Another 45 minutes goes by before they show up. The music is lowered slightly but that damned bass drum still thumps. People can still be heard having a good time at the expense of your sleep. 1pm the music finally, finally ceases but by now you are so pissed off you toss and turn for another half hour before falling into a restless sleep knowing your alarm is going to go off in 4-1/2 freakin' hours and you won't be worth crap all day. THAT is what it is like living next door to the holding company and the owner DOES NOT CARE! And this happens every time an event is held there. This has been going on for over 7 years so please do us a favor and choose any other place to hold your event. What can I say??? This place is RAD!!! Attended a wedding reception at The Holding company and WOW, we all had a great evening. Will (the owner) and his staff treated us all like family. The food selections were premier and the drinks were plentiful. Although the area doesn't allow for much parking, Will fixed that problem by having his own staff of valet drivers that made sure our classic cars were secure. This place is a hidden gem and I highly recommend it for any event! To Will; thanks for making the reception of my son and daughter in law memorable in the best possible way. read more

The entrance: an alley - you know alley entrances add allure to any space. There are two areas in this gallery: the first is an open space about 900 square feet, which is the first space you encounter. The second space is bi-level and enclosed. My brother recently had the coolest wedding ever at The Holding Co! Our family is from northern CA so we are not that familiar with LA. When we first got to the wedding, We were like....."WHERE ARE WE????" I realize now it's somewhere between Downtown and Hollywood....We pulled into an alley and had valet park our car. (Parking in that area was lousy so valet was crucial). I recommend taking an Uber. I guess the venue use to be a mechanic shop, so you actually enter through an old garage which is awesome! You will have no idea how rad it is until you walk in. It's basically my dream home. Lol They had their ceremony inside the building and left the outside open for cocktail hour & party time. They kept things simple by having tacos, but that's totally my bro and his now wife's style. Very LA! Hahaha(Best tacos ever by the way) My brother is in a band so all his friends that we grew up with came ready to jam! I'm surprised they were able to rock is hard as they did. Lol Hands down best wedding ever! I was just a guest, but our friend who got married here said the manager was great to work with and made planning their event very easy. We booked our wedding with The Holding Co, planned the entire thing out of state, and it couldn't have gone more perfectly! We were looking for a venue to house our wedding and reception that wouldn't overwhelm our small gathering and the space was perfect: could easily handle more, but felt just as intimate for a smaller group. The added benefit of a catering partner and a wonderful coordinator offered through the venue made everything a breeze: Will is friendly and a great resource as we were booking our wedding, and Sabrina was SO helpful, kind, and organized leading up to and on our wedding day. The venue itself is a great blank canvas that is beautiful on it's own, or decorated. We told Will what our budget was and he walked us through all of the services he could provide with in our budget. We finally had our wedding and we couldnt be happier. It was beautiful. A blank canvas, affordable venue. Great owner and manager who works well with clients to customize the event space to suit your needs. We booked this space for a wedding for approx 125 guests. We had the ceremony outside in the courtyard and the dinner inside and moved outdoors again for the dancing. Everything that was promised was delivered in a casual but professional manner. I was a large part of the wedding referenced by Zoe. While she is entitled to her opinion and was clearly upset by the waitresses' behaviour, I think that The Holding Company is a great venue. The set-up is great for all types of activities: a large indoor room with balcony that easily accomodated 85 people plus a coved wall where pictures could be taken. The outdoor "courtyard" worked well for both the ceremony and after dinner activities. The venue was able to provide valet parking, a great bar set-up, DJ and beautifully set tables for dinner. I can't really comment on the food to any extent since the couple wanted to keep the food simple: pizza and salad. For what it was, it was more than respectable. The "waitress" situation was unfortunate and may not have been handled well at the time, but I think that most people present didn't care. As father of the groom, I had a lot of friends there and no one had anything negative to say. Oh, and as far as I know, the prices are very reasonable. read more

We got married at the Holding Co. this past March and can't say enough good things about this indoor/outdoor venue and the staff. Will and Sarah were fantastic to deal with and made all the coordination really easy, and Will was extremely fair and accommodating with the pricing. We were fortunate to get married during the heat wave, so the courtyard was perfect for the 5PM ceremony, cocktail hour, and after dinner dancing. The food was great. Bar was totally reasonable. We served family-style which was really fun for a Sunday night, and the staff couldn't have been nicer--from the servers, to the bartenders, to the security guys. And we loved the long table setup (instead of round) inside where the space is awesome with the white walls, concrete floor and balcony. We brought our own wall hanging to make it feel like our space. Loved the glass roll-up door which was used as a "reveal" for us at the ceremony outset. Also, don't get turned off by the random location. All our guests felt like they were entering an exclusive club that only the cool people knew about. Ha. In short, we loved the Holding Co. and the people who run it and can't thank them enough for making our night so special. If you're looking for a cool place to get married or host a party with good food, that's owned/managed by a great guy that's so accommodating with everything, then the Holding Co. is the place for you. read more
