It's been a long time since I've visited this location. It has changed significantly to mitigate the issue of unhoused living in/around the parking lot. It now is completely surrounded by a fence with one entrance/exit with a gate that closes after business hours. There's even security camera to record license plates as you enter. High security. I came in to make copies of keys. The self-serve machine broke but I was promptly assisted by an employee. I got help easily this visit. read more

We came in for some shelves, and couldn't find some in black. Malaysia was kind enough to help us look. We ended up going with a different color because the black was only available online. Malaysia caught up with us and offered a discount as a consolation. Later as we were trying to fit all of our purchases into the car, Ri, who was gathering shopping carts in the parking lot, offered to help us lift our mini fridge and shelves into the backseat. My bad. Atmosphere - Where do I start. If you need a day laborer this is a good place to start. Especially since they moved or closed the "day laborer" zone in Oakland on High Street. Plenty of parking, you can even tip a day laborer to watch your car. Unfortunately, the homeless population continues to thrive here. Not an easy in and out of this area. There are always one or two police cars parked outside. Not sure if there are any real policemen? And/or if they are parked there just as a deterrence. Open 7 days a week from 6am or 7am until 8pm or 10pm. Service - When I first came here many, many years ago, I was surprised by the amazing service this location offered. Employees actually greeted and helped customers. Now service is no different than all the other HD's. So basically, they are self-service. Price - Great value, good return policies. Wow. This place feels like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie. From the moment you pull up, it's clear things are completely out of control. First, you have to get past the homeless encampments that have taken over nearly every corner surrounding the store. Once you're in the parking lot, you're met with a sea of day laborers offering their services, alongside "contractors" in work trucks all eager to be hired. But that's just the beginning. Home Depot seems to have turned its back parking lot into an overflow storage zone, which apparently also serves as an opportunity for thieves. While I was at the nearby 24 Hour Fitness, I literally witnessed people stealing bags of concrete and bricks through the back fence, all while a police officer casually hung out in front of the store doing nothing. When I finally got inside, the chaos continued. The checkout line was absolutely insane -- stretching from the exit all the way to the back wall. We're talking about 20-25 people deep, and it took forever to move. Honestly, the only reason I can imagine coming back to this store is if I wanted to blend in with the crowds stealing stuff, because that seems to be the norm here. UPDATE: After posting this did EVENTUALLY get some help to get the door installed but it still took a long time and a lot of unnecessary back and forth calls etc. However, I am still having a difficult time getting reimbursed for having to do repairs after the first installation. I've been waiting since March for reimbursement. They sent someone out and since I have a PO Box, he went to the Post Office. Unbelievable. Then I kept being put between Home Depot and the installer as to who would reimburse me. Finally sent a letter last week with a Settlement Release Agreement to sign and absolutely no instructions as to what to actually do with the form and how to actually receive the monies owed. I know Home Depot has a reputation of being AWEFUL to visit. Let's talk about the reasons WHY for this particular location. I don't go to Home Depot unprepared. I look up the items I want to buy online, add them to my cart. That way, when I am there I know what aisle to find everything in. Once I get there, I find that there are NO REGISTERS OPEN, only self check. Usually I would turn around and leave if I find it too busy. But, I came prepared and everything online says it's in stock so I should have a smooth shopping experience... RIGHT?! I find my first item. Head over to my 2nd. I am in the right aisle and section, but the item I am looking for isn't there. I check behind things, look for alternatives. NOTHING. Go to find my 3rd item, it's no where to be found. Site said there was 43 in stock, and this item is large 48x90 white board panel. I try to flag down someone in orange, they are no help. I came for 8ish items and left with 1. I have an ongoing struggle with Home Depot. The store carries everything home-related and has decent prices. But, the in-store customer service is consistently very poor. I typically find what I'm looking for at prices that beat or compare with anywhere else. The items I'm looking for are also almost always in-stock and if they're not, they're easy to locate at another near-by store. But, nearly every time I've been to Home Depot, including this location multiple times, the customer service is not good. During my last two visits, when I approached employees and asked for assistance, they begrudgingly acknowledged me without looking at me. They gave me a clear message, they didn't care to help me and felt bothered I asked for assistance. In the end, both employees provided me a very general location to find what I was looking for. I realize employees cost a store money. So, perhaps they keep the prices down by keeping the number of employees down. Absolutely horrific area, location, store, merchandise, and employees. I'm generally hot a fan of Home Depot but some of them are fine! This one is not. I'm never going back. I met a friend here who needed a specific type of flooring that wasn't in stock at our local Home Depot stores and this one was the closest. In hindsight we should have driven an extra 50 miles each way to another location besides this was the absolute worst experience I've ever had at any hardware store in my life. First off, the area it's in is just plain scary and disgusting. So nasty that they have two Oakland Police cars/officers patrolling the parking lot constantly. At least I felt safe enough leaving my truck in the parking lot for the time we were in the store because of it. Next up, the employees here are something else. I'm sure it's a lousy place to work, and it doesn't pay well... I work retail too, I get it. But, if you hate your job this much, just don't show up and let the store close. Because we needed about 8 pieces of the specific flooring and it took us over half an hour of sorting through the 40+ they had in stock to find ones that had not been damaged in the process of being unloaded, likely by the employees who either didn't care or didn't have sufficient training. We ended up buying an extra one and will hopefully have enough that was intact to complete the project. And don't get me started on the checkout employee that helped us. Well, helped is quite the overstatement. It took about 10 minutes for her to sell us 9 bundles of flooring. We clearly had 9 pieces on the cart and my friend showed her the SKU on the phone and not only did she not have any clue how to enter the item into the point of sale system without scanning the item (these don't have barcodes) but she also straight up didn't believe we had 9 and was bothered she had to get up and count them. Then on the way to the car with our stuff we almost got run over three times by people too busy texting to realize that someone might actually be walking in a parking lot. What a concept. read more

This review is for the online order pickup experience! First off, just be aware that the immediate surrounding area is sketch. Try not to be too alarmed. From either end of Alameda Ave. that you'll enter from, there are many homeless encampments. It's really sad, there are actually a lot more now than before the pandemic. I know because I used to go to the 24-Hour Fitness right next to the Home Depot. As far as I'm aware, the gym has been closed for most of the year (and now 24 is bankrupt.) Sooo the gym is pretty much an empty lot at this point! There are several security guards in the Home Depot parking lot. I also passed by a truck in the parking lot full of oranges and I'm assuming they were selling them? Lol this place is wild! It also feels random but I appreciate that there is a little food cart thing next to the left entrance selling breakfast burritos, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, pupusas, and hot dogs! It's called Kelly's Deli. Those working on home improvement can build up an appetite and need convenient sustenance, so thank you for being there! Lol. I may have tried the tacos because I was hungry - they were okay, cheap, did the job (about $7-7.50 for 3 tacos). I ordered one item online. Because I didn't want to pay for shipping, I selected pickup! It was ready for pickup less than 30 minutes after I placed the order - which was really speedy! They also give you a whole week to pick it up. They have Amazon Hub type lockers and you don't even have to interact with a human to pick up your item. You are given a code in your email. There is a little tablet screen in the middle of the lockers. You can enter the code, sign for your item on the screen, and boom the locker with your item opens up! It was really easy. I entered on the entrance on the left, but the entrance on the right is where you want to go for online order pickups! An employee named Mya walked me through the process and was really friendly and attentive. She entered the code for me so I barely lifted a finger! Overall, if you can place an online order, you can be in and out in a jiffy - and it's a pretty seamless experience! read more

I have shopped Home Depot for years, but experiences in the past few years have been disappointing. I ordered Bali blinds from them 7 years ago. A pull string broke and I called wanting to simply replace them. Although I had all my original paperwork including the sizes their installer used originally they insisted I have a new design consultant come to my home. (I spoke with 3 different people over the phone and visited 2 locations in person. All assured me someone would have to come to my home to re-measure.) I scheduled an appointment and the woman who came said she did not have Bali as an option and only offered 2 brands that I had never heard of. By this time I had been dealing with a broken blind for over a month, so agreed to review her selection. I ordered 2 blinds to replace the broken one and the other one in the bedroom so they would match. When the installed showed up with the blinds, he determined that one of the valance pieces was broken and he would have to order a new part. He was pleasant and efficient. Within 24 hours of attempting to use these we knew we had made a mistake. Neither blind will sit on the sill. They both creep up leaving a 2-3 inch gap from the sill. They are blackout shades, but the material is so thin that heat and cold come through much more than our previous blackout shades. We went with shades instead of blinds so we wouldn't have the issue of broken cords again. Most shades have a reflex to them where you tug and they re-fill back up. These do not. We have to manually push them back up to the top. Within 24 hours I contacted our designer. She gave me Customer Service contact information. No one responded to my email complaint. When I was notified that the new valance part was in I let them know we were unhappy. After 3 days I got an email saying since this was a custom order and therefore I had no return or refund options. The only recourse is to warn others. DO NOT USE HOME DEPOT FOR ORDERING BLINDS! read more
