    5/28/24 FYI.

Quality/Quantity - Consistent. Asked two team members for help and finally found what I needed. If I actually walked to the VERY end of the aisle, I would not have needed the second team member. My bad. Atmosphere - Where do I start. If you need a day laborer this is a good place to start. Especially since they moved or closed the "day laborer" zone in Oakland on High Street. Plenty of parking, you can even tip a day laborer to watch your car. Unfortunately, the homeless population continues to thrive here. Not an easy in and out of this area. There are always one or two police cars parked outside. Not sure if there are any real policemen? And/or if they are parked there just as a deterrence. Open 7 days a week from 6am or 7am until 8pm or 10pm. Service - When I first came here many, many years ago, I was surprised by the amazing service this location offered. Employees actually greeted and helped customers. Now service is no different than all the other HD's. So basically, they are self-service. Price - Great value, good return policies. I rarely look at prices shopping at this company. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1978, now with 2,312 locations and growing. Ranked #5 (2020) on the Fortune 500.

Wow. This place feels like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie. From the moment you pull up, it's clear things are completely out of control. First, you have to get past the homeless encampments that have taken over nearly every corner surrounding the store. Once you're in the parking lot, you're met with a sea of day laborers offering their services, alongside "contractors" in work trucks all eager to be hired. But that's just the beginning. Home Depot seems to have turned its back parking lot into an overflow storage zone, which apparently also serves as an opportunity for thieves. While I was at the nearby 24 Hour Fitness, I literally witnessed people stealing bags of concrete and bricks through the back fence, all while a police officer casually hung out in front of the store doing nothing. When I finally got inside, the chaos continued. The checkout line was absolutely insane -- stretching from the exit all the way to the back wall. We're talking about 20-25 people deep, and it took forever to move. Honestly, the only reason I can imagine coming back to this store is if I wanted to blend in with the crowds stealing stuff, because that seems to be the norm here. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. This location is a mess. Good luck if you choose to brave it.

I know Home Depot has a reputation of being AWEFUL to visit. Let's talk about the reasons WHY for this particular location. I don't go to Home Depot unprepared. I look up the items I want to buy online, add them to my cart. That way, when I am there I know what aisle to find everything in. Once I get there, I find that there are NO REGISTERS OPEN, only self check. Usually I would turn around and leave if I find it too busy. But, I came prepared and everything online says it's in stock so I should have a smooth shopping experience... RIGHT?! I find my first item. Head over to my 2nd. I am in the right aisle and section, but the item I am looking for isn't there. I check behind things, look for alternatives. NOTHING. Go to find my 3rd item, it's no where to be found. Site said there was 43 in stock, and this item is large 48x90 white board panel. I try to flag down someone in orange, they are no help. I came for 8ish items and left with 1. ALSO: You would think that ordering online should be a quick in and out option. It is not. Why? Because no one is ever at the pick-up area. Very annoyed.

RACIST LADIES DOING CUSTOMS SERVICE. I came to this location not expecting perfect service due to it being in Oakland but when I arrived and I paid for a pallet of concrete asked them to kindly load it with a forklift. Unfortunately never got it waited over an hour so I decided to go return the concrete. While waiting in line I witnessed this lady and her friend with the braids who I wasn't able to take a photo of but they both laughed at the man for not being able to properly explain what he needed so I helped them him after the fact that I noticed them laughing in his face and mocking him for not being able to speak English properly

    Thank you!

I approached him and said, "I don't know much about gardening and I have a feeling you do! So I'm wondering if you could help me. I have hydrophobic soil, and my lawn is patchy." He said, "Well you shouldda used compost." I said, "Let's try again, and not start with 'you shouldda.'" I smiled and continued, "We had the seed put in in October, and they used compost. We will be reseeding and re-composting in the fall..." He interrupted and said, "Well I have some advice if you would LISTEN." I said, "I'm listening." He said, "I have some fertilizer with soil conditioner." I said, "Well, I used soil conditioner yesterday." I never raised my voice or took an attitude with him. I just said, "You have expertise, right? And I respect your expertise. Well, I also have expertise, in another field, and when people come to me for advice, I don't speak to them this way. So I'm going to leave now. Have a nice day." My grown son was with me. I asked him, "Am I crazy or was that man very rude?" My son said he couldn't believe the way Greg spoke to me. I looked him up afterward to be sure I wasn't naming the wrong person. It was the owner, Greg Dupuich. I will not be returning to this nursery, and I would not recommend going there as a woman. I have a feeling he would not have spoken to a man this way. Greg did not bother to take the time to understand my problem or ask basic diagnostic questions. When I got home I looked up some examples of questions a helpful specialist could have asked: -What is your soil type? -How deep down is the soil dry? -How old is the lawn? -Have you added any bark, mulch, or compost recently? -Have you tried using a liquid wetting agent or aerator yet? -Are you looking to buy a tool to fix this, or a chemical/soil product? Those are the kinds of questions a skilled, knowledgeable person would ask, and I would have appreciated it if he had taken the time. Beautiful nursery, but I will take my business elsewhere.

Extraordinary service, care, and plants…read more I heard about this place from my co-worker/friend, who developed a large nursery during the pandemic. She had devoted a large amount of social media content for the new plants that she acquired, particularly from local gardeners and nurseries. After commenting on a couple, she knew I was very intrigued by this Tender Gardener, from whom she made many nice purchases from. During my birthday, she and another colleague purchased a gift card for me. Shortly, I had spent a long time looking through the items they offered. Over the course of 3 months, I noticed they restock on a lot of items that sell out (means their business is doing many things right), and them carrying a lot of exotic items that I have never seen before. Their website also offers a lot of insightful articles that help customers make informed decisions and care for the precious pieces that they purchase. Another great thing about The Tender Gardener is that they offer free Friday deliveries, for purchases of over $30, for Oakland and San Francisco (and have since expanded). I ended up purchasing two plans (photos uploadeded) for a friend who recently purchased a home in Oakland. The purchase, delivery, and service was phenomenal.
