Watsonville Home Depot on Green Valley Road is generally known for being a bit more organized and easier to navigate than some of the busier spots in Santa Cruz. I usually prefer coming to this location over the Soquel/Capitola store. It's significantly easier to get in and out of, and the parking lot isn't nearly as much of a headache. The store is well-organized, and I can almost always find what I need on the shelves. A huge shoutout to the garden department and the Pro Desk crew--they actually seem to know their stuff and are happy to help you load up heavy items without making it feel like a chore. read more

This one has the following good about it: * Rolling carts available and not have to hunt for them * standard Depot layout means you aren't searching to find everything because it's not in the right location (like the capitola location!) * things are in stock and in order * big garden section * easy parking though a little awkward of a layout * not very crowded The checkout has limited self checkout with usually one lane of cashier so that's a little frustrating to checkout but definitely enjoy this one over capitola read more

Woah, what is going on with Home Depot employees? I've been shopping at this store for years but in the last couple of years, the night workers are out of control. One guy made me wait to check out items because he was talking and joking with coworkers. They saw me right there waiting. I had to ask if they were working and a guy checked my items out while looking at his phone. Im used to that kind of crap at night but tonight was outright hostile and dangerous. I went there around 9PM tonight and thought it was closed because there was just crap everywhere throughout the aisles and half were blocked off with pallets of crap they were stocking, as if they had already closed and customers were in their way. There were major safety issues everywhere. I couldn't find a certain type of screw I needed so I asked one worker for help, but he was too busy stocking to show me. He barely looked at me and told me to go the aisle over. I could not find these screws where he said it was and was there until almost closing looking for them. So I asked another worker and he looked it up, told me they have that product and told me to try a different hardware store. So I started looking for something similar and this worker starts throwing boxes of product down the aisle right at me. It was clear I was annoying them. It seemed like they were using hostile "closing time" tactics to make the customers uncomfortable for being there. I don't know if he was trying to scare me out of the aisle but I was getting ready for a lawsuit if he hit me with one of those boxes. I ended buying the wrong screws, got home and now see they had them the whole time and if someone would have just showed me where to find them, I could have left long before I did. I will return the screws and try other hardware stores where the workers don't try to scare the customers because they want to close early. read more

AVOID RENTING TOOLS HERE - Rental department employees have no clue what they are doing and should not be handling equipment. I rented a walk behind concrete saw from this location and the saw was an absolute lemon. The blade they provided was completely toasted. No way it would work safely at all. When trying to replace the blade with one I purchased I found out the rental employees use an impact air gun to tighten the nuts and bolts on their machines. I brought the saw back to Home Depot to have them remove the blade, in doing so the employees tipped the machine back completely flooding the engine. They gave the machine back to me and when I started it the machine started spraying oil everywhere due to rental employees tipping the machine on its back to replace the blade (which is not necessary). Home Depot manager Ivan offered to switch the machine for me at no cost which would have been great, but the second machine I was given also didn't start due to the rental employees tipping the machine back again for whatever reason. Manager Ivan asked the employees to clean out the machine and get it working for me. Within minutes the rental employees caught the concrete saw on fire in their little room. I had to then go and talk to Ivan again and let him know that his staff caught their machine on fire. Obviously this was an absolutely nightmare of a rental experience. Home Depot needs to properly train their staff before letting them near equipment or anything flammable. The rental employees don't know what they are doing and are likely to injure someone with how they upkeep their rentals. After this experience I went to A TOOL SHED who took care of me quickly and without issue. AVOID HOME DEPOT RENTALS IN WATSONVILLE AT ALL COSTS. read more

I wouldn't usually rent a tool from Home Depot, but I had a free $75 credit on my pro rewards account for one, so I decided to drive from Santa Cruz to Watsonville to get a floor sander instead of paying for one locally. Picking up the tool I asked how to assemble and use it, since I've never used one before. I am a contractor though, with experience using many tools over the last 30 years. After driving twenty miles to my job I assembled the sander as I was told and tried to turn it on. Wouldn't turn on. It took a minute or so to realize that the way I was told to turn it on (press button and hold the two buttons on the handles, was the only way it wouldn't turn on.) When it did finally turn on it grabbed the floor pivoted like a tornado, hit me in the arm launching me against a wall, came back around like a twisting bull and almost took my head off before crashing in the middle of the room. The thing banged me up good, and sprained ankle, but I was just feeling lucky it didn't do me real injury, or maybe worse go through one of the freshly sheet rocked walls. Thinking this couldn't be Normal, I called Home Depot. Immediately the associate said "you forgot to pick up the sanding pad." Again, I've never used the tool and was showed how to assemble it without the pad between the grips and the sanding disc while in the store. Without the pad the grips grabbed the floor causing near catastrophe. I was advised to go buy a pad from a rental place nearby. It would take more time to hunt down the pad than to drive back to Watsonville so I headed back. . Once there I told them what had happened and asked that the rental be free since they had wasted over an hour of my time and ten or twenty bucks of gas and wear on my truck driving back and forth. Considering my hourly rate that would make the whole thing frustrating, but a wash. Not only were they unconcerned whether I'd been hurt (no one even asked a simple, wow sorry are you okay?) they blamed it on me saying "If you don't know to operate a tool it can be dangerous." Seriously!? It was not operator error; it was the useless Home Depot associates who are both not experienced enough to know how the tool they are renting is assembled AND don't know when to say, "You know I don't know how that goes together, let me get someone who does." The irony is I know a lot about construction and spend much of my time in Home Depot answering other customers questions because the associates are so useless and I feel bad for people. They offered me 15% off my rental and at this point I'm a little embarrassed to say I pretty much lost my shit, asked for a manager and then the store manager. The store manager is named Perla, who refused to even give her last name because she didn't want it on this review. She was absolutely unsympathetic and didn't even apologize for her associate telling me how to assemble the tool incorrectly. She stubbornly refused to give me more than 50% off the tool rental (which was supposed to be 'free' because of my pro rewards coupon. This would price my rental at $35. Clearly Home Depot didn't care about my safety, or my time, maybe they cared about making money? I told the store manager, "I spend a thousand dollars a week here and your not going to give me the last $35 off this tool rental?" She would not. What about their reputation? Did they care at all about customer service? She could care less about threats of bad reviews. You would think avoiding a poor review would be worth $35 to such a large corporation. Well I'd already wasted enough time. Back to work. After an extra late day for me it was back to Watsonville for the third time. Time missing out with my kids. Thanks Home Depot. Unlike Home Depot I take responsibility for my mistakes and in this case my mistake was trusting any kind of competence fromHoe Depot. I didn't pass along this costly mistake to my clients. My mother raised me to vote, but beyond that she taught me that every time you spend money you are voting. Vote for local stores like Big Creek, San Lorenzo, and Ace hardware. A few months ago I went in to buy some security cameras, nothing fancy just something to get the job done. I got home and realized 3/4 cameras I purchased were returned items since they were already activated and missing parts. This happened again when I went in to buy an AC and lo and behold when I opened the unit it was used (sold at retail). The unit had lots of dust and the parts compartment was already open. I've never written a review in my life, but today, the employees at the Watsonville Home Depot changed my mind. I was in the pesticide isle looking for some Gopher Smoke Bombs. In the isle with me were 2 employees speaking Spanish to each other and there was also a Home Depot "returns" shopping cart right in front of the critter section. I didn't want to move the cart because I thought that the employees might be working on it, so I kept walking around each side of it and not once did they ask if I needed any help. I finally asked them about the smoke bombs and they both said "NO", they didn't have that, but they did have some pellets and something else. I ended up taking just one more look and there they were, a whole stack of "Gopher Gasser". I was a little frustrated, so I grabbed some other things that I was looking for and went to the checkout in the garden section. My purchase was $32.01 so I asked the cashier if they could spare a penny and gave him $42.00 and when he started digging out $9.99 from his register, I said, "are you kidding, you can't spare a penny"? He said, "no sir, I can't". That ended my shopping at the Watsonville Home Depot. read more

I have such mixed reviews (honestly mostly not great) about our experience with Home Depot's flooring department. Our initial experience was positive. We went and looked at samples and were helped by a very friendly guy in the flooring department who was great. He quotes us at approximately $2500 to redo carpets/flooring in a portion of our small 1000 square foot condo. We were so excited and since it was fitting the price range we assumed it would we even went with the nicer padding and more durable carpets. We paid the required $50 to have the official measurements done and it was a strange experience- we are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the guy that showed up to our home did not wear a mask. I answered the door in a mask, and he asked me if I wanted him to put one on which I found completely inappropriate. I told him yes and he did, but wow- really? It's a state and county mandate, not an option. After, when we got a text saying to call the 800# for our final quote, it was almost DOUBLE the original estimate- with no explanation of the costs. I called back multiple times until someone could explain the costs and I was shocked by all the nickel and diming! $199 for them to simply bring the materials, $75 & Up PER piece of furniture they would move, the list goes on and on and we had even informed them from the start that we would move any furniture that was not included in the "free installation" price. This was all during thanksgiving season, and we were scrambling to get back into Home Depot to have the costs explained and quote adjusted and select less expensive materials but our quote had already "expired"... apparently you only have 10 days after the measurements to pull the trigger on the project and even though our costs doubled and we wanted to change things around we lost our chance. We ended up bagging the whole thing and lost time, money and so much energy/frustration. I had much higher expectations of the Home Depot for these services, but now I'm just glad I can look into supporting a small local business and know the job will be done well. I should have done that from the start, but felt I would be more secure with a big box store, was I wrong. Do NOT use Home Depot for your flooring needs. read more

Overall, I like the Home Depot. I'm old enough to remember what it was like the smaller lumberyards and hardware stores. And I've shopped around enough to know that their prices on appliances are the best you're going to find. The Watsonville store has its challenges. The work force seems to be, on average, younger and less experienced, and they seem to cycle through before they get a lot of experience. But they want to help, and the key staff at returns and contractor checkout tend to be seasoned and effective communicators. Temper your expectations and know what you're doing and you'll do well here. read more

First one star ever. My diagnosis here....Bad work sub-culture. Poor managerial supervision and toxic group dynamics. I will NEVER go back here. I purchased 2 fruit trees on Saturday and I asked them to hold them overnight so I could return with a truck. The next day I noticed that 1 of the trees had wilted and I asked if I could get some water to water it before I took it on a long windy ride and stressed the plant further. This seemed reasonable to me. But you would think I had asked for the moon. The floor worker sent me to the garden store. Okay. The cashier at the garden store said I don't know where there is water but called the manager on my request. Okay so far. I asked him to help me water the tree. That's when things get weird. No, they can't bring out a hose (we are surrounded by several hundred 1 and 5 gallon pots that clearly must be watered). Ok how about a bucket of water.? Impossible. "We only water on certain days" Me: okay, I can drive to the supermarket a few blocks away and you are telling me I need to do that. Really? Wow." All of this was in a modulated conversational tone. Then he accused me of insulting him - I guess an older boomer woman saying "wow" is some kind of micro-aggression. By then I was surrounded by his posse of 3 guys and felt bullied. Suddenly a simple request to water a plant had turned into a confrontation and then he said "you ARE a "KAREN" and I don't have to listen you" and walked away being congratulated by the guys for standing up to an unreasonable customer. I'm sure the tale will grow in telling. Confirmation bias? Gang dynamics? Sexism?Ageism? Other-ism of some kind anyway. I truly do not know what was going on here but it felt pretty threatening. BTW the K-word should not be thrown around lightly by macho men. It is likely to unite a posse of aging feminists who will take their business elsewhere. read more

Came here today to buy accessories for a flag pole. The store selection is great and they always have the items needed to complete the job. All of my questions were answered and was given helpful tips. The self checkout person was very helpful. When cashier's are not available I use the self-checkout machines they're much faster! I've been coming here a lot lately for supply's.I would rather bargain and build something myself than pay full price for something that will stop working or break in about a month. Ok so the average review of this place is 3 stars. I'm not sure what people are comparing Home Depot to but let me explain my 5 star rating. I have been to the Home Depot in Salinas and waited 30 minutes for no help at the saw after asking several times when finally someone says oh that guy isn't here today and no one else can do it. I have been to the Seaside Home Depot where the lumber is so saturated with water you can't even lift it and it is warping and rotting with mold all over it. The Silinas lumber is better quality but they are almost always out of stock. I literally drive 40 minutes out of my way from Monterey or Salinas to the Watsonville one. These guys are very courteous and helpful with lots of staff walking around helping out the customers!! When I needed 4 cuts on the saw on 4x4 posts, which would have been a pain to do at home, the guy who opperates the saw was right there in the wood isle. I could not ask for anything better than that. Also at the Seaside one I was looking for 4x4 posts and they had 2 in questionable condition the rest were useless. At the Watsonville one they had about 20 that looked good and all of them were usable I was just being picky for the project I was doing I knew I'd be looking at it every day but I had no problem finding all the wood I needed. Their 2x4's were dry and straight as well. I don't know who runs this Watsonville one but I personally would love it if he or she would run the Seaside one too! Or at least keep up the good work in Watsonville because I don't mind the drive and am thankful that there is at least one quality Home Depot nearby. read more

Look everybody, it's Home Depot. You know what you're getting when you hit the parking lot. It's a giant warehouse store. I prefer Orchard and Ace (where I'm a weekly customer) but for some things, it's HD or go out of town. I've visited other HDs in the area (Salinas, Marina, Gilroy), and this one distinguishes itself for its staff. We've never paid a visit and not had people approach us to ask if we needed help. We've never had the interminable lines found in the Gilroy store, or the spectacularly clueless staff in Salinas. These people may work for a big box store, but they actually seem to care about their jobs and customers. read more

I went back after 2-3 weeks and they didn't have the item any more. A lady was helping me the second time I went but she didn't seem to want to help me much.
