This business is in a strip mall and it's easy to by it. The sign is big and white, and that's 0it. Nothing else sets it aside from the other businesses in that strip male otherwise. It seems to have customers are primarily in the 30s on up. It does have a child's menu though, and the evening we were there, I saw several families being served. The minute my son and I entered we experienced something that should have sent us out of there right then and there. There was a black girl standing with menus in hand just inside the door. We walked over to her and thought she would seat us. WRONG!!!! A few seconds behind us came an elderly black couple all dressed up. The girl literally walked around us and went to the couple smiling brightly, and said, "Thank you for coming. If you will follow me, I'll get you seated right away." Then WALKED AROUND MY SON AND I AGAIN WITH HER GUESTS LIKE WE WEREN'T EVEN THERE! For a minute I couldn't speak, because I couldn't believe what had happened. My son watched this girl walk away then turned to me and said, "Did that really just happen?" We stood there with people all around us looking at us. And the longer I stood there the madder I got. No one else approached us. My son finally said, "Look mom, let's just go somewhere else." But I said, "No!" I grabbed the next server that walked by within ear shot and said, "Excuse me! Would you please seat us? The black girl that was up here took the couple that came in behind us and left us standing." She got us seated and gave us menus. Then disappeared. We waited for some time before she came back and asked if we were ready to order. I said, "It would be nice if you would bring us some water and something to eat with." She looked shocked and said, "OH! I am so sorry ma'am. I'll get those for you right now." After that we ordered and ate. I wish I could say the food was worth all the bull manure we had to go through to get. But it wasn't. My son's chicken strips were almost fried to the consistency of concrete. He slaw though, and a couple of other things. I ordered a catfish dinner. When it arrived, I expected a treat. But it was bland and pretty much mushy inside the breading. The hot sauce I added helped some, but not a great deal. Honestly I had higher expectations considering how this joint is gabbed about. We tip according to service and behavior. The young lady that served us did receive a nice tip because she stepped up. On our way out, I asked to speak to the manager. A lady came up front to us and I told her what had happened. She apologized and offered us a free meal. But we passed. I don't know why she didn't wait on us. I believe it was an act of racism being played out. When I combined that with the food and service, I gave The Hook a two out of ten. We haven't been back since. read more

I have visited this establishment for many years going back to the time when I was on active duty in USAF stationed at LRAFB. We ate there last night, and I must say even though the food was ok and the service was great, I am very disappointed. It appears with all the pictures, decorations, and military paraphernalia they have in the restaurant, one would think that they appreciate the military. However, not extending a military discount I feel is very unappreciative. Don't get me wrong, it's not the discount that bothers me, it's the lack of military appreciation. I ate courtesy of modern woodmen assoc So I can't comment too much on the price. As for the food, I found it a little grity at times. My wife's food was good and my little girls seemed to be just fine with the child plate portions. Nice environment and clean bathrooms with speedy service will cause my business to return. read more

Well my husband and I decided to try The Hook restaurant tonight and boy are we sorry we did. My husband found a hair in his food and the owner Dave Bush was told and he got mad because he said I was blaming him. What??? That's a first for me and my husband. I guess it's our fault that a hair was on my husbands plate underneath his coleslaw. I don't think so. Dave Bush couldn't have cared less about what was in his food. Well Mr Bush we won't be back and you probably don't even care. I gave you one star, but you didn't deserve that. read more

The overall visit this afternoon was disappointing. The lady that took our order and brought out our food was extremely nice and did a great job! We couldn't have asked for better service. The tarter sauce is now in a refillable squeeze bottle and doesn't taste near as good as the Kraft Tarter Sauce. The fish was not as big around than my thumb and there was no flaky meat under the breading. Fries, slaw and hush puppies were good. The music was extremely loud and my phone said the name of the group was AC/DC. I've listened to this group many times on the radio but am not a big fan especially as loud as it was. I've been a customer for a very long time. From when the owner first owned, sold and bought the restaurant back. The son in law who is managing the restaurant now, must not like the deceased owners previous taste in music, which was a variety of styles and volume conducive to a pleasant dinning experience. What made my visit really disappointing was when I was paying my bill. The young lady processing my payment asked "everything okay"? I said it was okay except the fish was small and the choice of music was too loud to talk over. She sad, "I noticed he turned it down" and I said yes, he did. Two other young ladies came behind the counter, one that had been talking to the manager. I continued to say, you know, the atmosphere has a lot to add to the dining experience. Booming and not pleasant music can contribute to a unpleasant experience. I was just being stared at by the three young ladies. I asked if they agreed and was told by the young lady that had been talking to the manager. No! I then asked if they contributed to the income of the restaurant. They just stared at me with no reply. I then explained in case they didn't understand, no you don't. I do, so think about that and then left. At this time, I don't plan on driving from out of town to Jacksonville, Arkansas to contribute to The Hook Catfish income. Oh, noticed other people looking around at the ceiling at the speakers just like I did. I wonder what they were thinking? Also, it sure would be nice to get catfish filets rather than crispy catfish fingers and bring back the Kraft Tarter Sauce. You need this to stay in business! read more

In town and decided to order for the family. Got home and the catfish was all dried out. Either overcooked or sat under a heat lamp for hours. Not fit to eat. I fed my grand babies from my pantry and then called only to be told that I had to drive back to the restaurant to get a credit. Upon arriving I was told they could only replace the fish that was unfit for consumption. No refund! No credit! No gift certificate for future meal! (My parents and I have eaten here previously and never had this issue) Fish does not reheat well but I was given no alternative so I took the replacement fish and gave it away to the neighbors upon arriving home. I am disappointed that this establishment thought serving dried out overcooked fish to their customer was acceptable. I am disappointed I was required to return the bad fish and that my only option was to accept delivery of a second order of the fish-a credit would have been a more acceptable way to handle the situation. Had I lived further away I would have been forced to accept that I had been given the restaurant's garbage as my dinner and given the privilege of paying for it. So my message; BEWARE of takeout from this restaurant as their standard of what is acceptable to feed their customers drops tremendously when you are taking the "food" home. Before I moved away I used to visit The Hook often. I came back for a visit and the food is still great. The fish didn't have as much flavor as I remember, but it was still good. The hush puppies were sweet, but very good to me. The service was friendly, as it always has been. Next time I go back to visit, I'll more than likely pick up some fish from them again! read more

Good old fashioned catfish. Very generous portions. One lunch special feeds me for two days. Reasonable prices. No reservations necessary.

I had several people tell me that this was the best seafood / catfish around. I took my entire family here one weekend, I'll start from the top. The service was awesome, nice people and quick to take out order. The drinks were fine, refills were quick and the drinks were cold. The catfish was frozen and tasted no different than what i can buy at the walmart supercenter down the road. I was highly disappointed at the food. I will not be going back because I can cook this exact meal at home for the exact price and it will be better. read more

Stopped for some take out on a long road trip. The fish was ok. The shrimp liked very cheap like something you'd get at a cheap buffet. The Fries were really grainy, I've had better oven fries. Have eaten there many times. Friendly people. Attentive to your wants. Catfish is very good. Not too much breading. Don't understand other reviews being critical. Have eaten catfish all over from Hot Springs to Harrison, Newport to Fayetteville. Haven't found any better. read more

I have gone to "The Hook" many times and I have never been dissatisfied with the food or customer service. I always order the 3 piece catfish dinner and always full when I leave-- actually more food than I can eat. When we want fish--the Hook is our go-to restaurant. Thanks! read more

My family has been coming here for years, but I will never go back again after today. I came in for lunch with my granddaughter and the owner's girlfriend yelled at my grandchild and lectured me. My granddaughter is autistic and likes to line things up. She lined up two hot sauce bottles that were not open. She was not yelling, she was quiet, and was not making a mess. The owner's girlfriend came over to our table and began lecturing me about how she is "an educator" and I need to "set limits" on my grand daughter and then proceeded to literally yell at my grand child. We were trying to enjoy a nice lunch and she had no right to come over to our table and tell me how to raise my child. It was the rudest thing I have experienced in a restaurant. It was humiliating and totally uncalled for. Meanwhile the owner just sat there and watched as his girlfriend harassed a senior citizen who was just trying to have a nice lunch with her grand child. We were not bothering anyone and I did not ask or need his girlfriend's opinion about my autistic grand child. read more
