I believe them when they say this is the best steak in town! We tried a variety of things here on a weeknight: crab cakes, T-bone steak, red beans and rice, and gumbo. Everything was good but the steak was a show-stopper. Service was good too. No sweet tea, but they will bring you dissolved sugar in water for your tea, which is loads better than packets. Our go to place in Little Rock. Yesterday just didn't meet our expectations. Potato wedges with ranch were overcooked. The soaked salad was different, the dressing looked and tasted different. Stopped for lunch on a Wednesday while in Little Rock on appointments. Can't wait to get back. Immediately grabbed an open seat at the bar and enjoyed a local draft beer. A cup of gumbo came with a bread roll for sopping up all that great flavor with a decent mix of shrimp, sausage and okra. Followed the gumbo with a small creole soaked salad that was absolutely delicious with the green olives. For lunch it was shrimp and grits. Fantastic flavor and spice that's not for the lighter taste buds. This was probably the best shrimp and grits I've had from Savanna to New Orleans and up and down the gulf. I had just flown in to Little Rock and was looking for something different for lunch. I had heard good things about Faded Rose and I love Cajun food. My go to is etouffee and saw that they served it. Yes please let's go. I was seated quickly and my server was awesome. She had a lot of personality and loved how my visit started. Unfortunately this was the highlight of my meal. I ordered the etouffee and was really disappointed with it. The consistency was very runny and didn't feel like there was a lot of shrimp in there. The flavor was ok and I had never had non red rue. That definitely threw me for a loop. I probably will not return based on the etouffee. I'm sure that there are other things that could be ordered. just didn't try anything else. read more

Sunday Evening, April 6th, a return to this longtime favorite after a ten year absence. Yes, we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table for two, but that was almost always the case. The wait was worth our patience! Our server, Nicole, a former hostess there, was amazing with lots of assistance and humorous dialogue. She was also quick and efficient, a true pleasure to have helping us. The food was hot, tasty, timely-prepared, and exactly as I remembered from my more than forty years of dining there. This was my family's favorite when we lived in Little Rock, and our visit this time reminded me of why we loved the place so much. The fried artichoke hearts were perfect, as were the fried oysters, soaked salad, and crawfish rice, topped off with their excellent bread pudding! My mother & I decided to visit the Faded Rose today since I hear so many people rave about it. Sadly, we were very disappointed. My fried oysters were soggy & my mother didn't care for her muffeletta at all. Since we didn't eat much of our lunch, we decided to split a serving of bread pudding. We love bread pudding but I would have to say it was the worst I've had. It had an odd texture and the flavor wasn't much better. We left half of it on the table. I've been to N'rleans, had po boys in plenty of whole in the walls, and this fried oyster po boy meets the criterion for creole goodness. The bread was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fried oysters were perfectly seasoned. The pickles were delicious, but the star of the show was the remolaude - I ordered a side and it was awesome to add more to the sandwich and the fries. My son had the ragin Cajun burger, I had a bite, and wanted more! We also had the red beans and rice, and while I felt it lacked salt, the rest of table enjoyed it. Cute little place inside and out. Decorated very New Orleans style, with a nice ambience overall. My boyfriend and I were kindly greeted by a host and taken to a table. I didn't catch our waitress's name, but she was very friendly as well. We ordered fried green tomatoes as our appetizer, which I hadn't had before. They were delicious! We shared a cup of gumbo and a "soaked" salad before our entrees. I have had better gumbo, but all gumbo is good so it was still tasty. The salad caught me by surprise, it was really good! For our entrees, we shared a prime rib and hot chicken po boy. Both were phenomenal. The po boy was the best I have ever had--even out of the ones I had in New Orleans! The bread was perfectly crunchy, the chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection as well. The toppings were a refreshing addition, complimenting the chicken. The fries were okay. They were quite soggy and oily tasting, but the sandwich and steak made up for that. We got the crawfish rice to pair with the prime rib which was very nice. I had high hopes from the menu, but Faded Rose, which everyone tells me is a Little Rock culinary institution as old as I am, was thoroughly mediocre, ranging from the watery gumbo to the slightly soggy hand-cut fries. The gumbo had really good flavor, but it was insanely salty and too watery. Our salad was mostly iceberg-- on the lighter side of iceberg, I might add- but I appreciated the sliced green olives, at least, which tasted like actual real food amid a meal that seemed to lack other actual substance. The signature Cajun burger, ostensibly a favorite, was just sort of blah, a chunky and dense grind of meat but with a flavorless vegetably goo on top (I assume some attempt at a Cajun concoction, but again, flavorless mush that was mostly wet). Service was charming and attentive including the host and the server, food came out pretty quick, and it was nice to be able to sit out on the (shaded) patio on a hot day. I am not sure what I'd do differently other than not come here, but I assume there are things on the menu that are actually good if everyone loves this place so much. read more

I ordered the LA crab cakes, and our waitress, Karen, suggested getting one of each since I couldn't decide if I wanted grilled or fried. They were both delicious. Of course, the fried one had more flavor. My entree was the blackened Filet Morgan, which was cooked to perfection. My buddy had the Gumbo and said it was some of the best he had outside of Louisisana. Overall, the meal and atmosphere were excellent. Then each meal came with soup or salad and I got rice and beans and it was better than I expected it to be. It was a pleasant surprise. My husband ordered the BBQ shrimp and it was shrimp in a blackened olive oil soup. Yuck! As a side, he ordered fries and the fries were the saddest limp unsalted fries in the world. We were on a cross-country road trip and started to feel hungry about an hour outside of Little Rock, so we decided to try our luck to find a place on Yelp. SCORE!! My family is from New Orleans, so I'm always excited to try some creole food, especially when I'm in the South. The restaurant was only a little bit out of the way from our 40-route and well worth it. We called when we were on our way to make sure they were dog-friendly and the lady told us on the phone that the patio was first-come, no reservations, so we kept our fingers crossed. They were pretty busy, but we were lucky they had one table left outside. They do allow indoor dining (this was during COVID in case you're reading this in the future and are confused), but the tables were managed to keep distance between each other, so it looked pretty safe. Either way, outside was perfect for us since we had the dogs and they had heaters. We started the meal by sharing the fried green tomatoes and the crab cake appetizer. Both were so so good!! The crab cakes were smaller bite size which were perfect for sharing and had the right ratio of crab to binder to hold it together, but still feel the crab. The fried green tomatoes were thinly sliced and had a very light breading--not what I'm typically used to--with a crab on top with sauce. Also, delicious!!! I could've eaten the entire thing myself. For entrees, I ordered the Shrimp Creole, which the waiter warned me was very "tomato-y" which was really like a recommendation stamp for me because I love tomatoes. I also ordered an Abita beer because that was the right thing to do. My hubby wanted to Shrimp Creole, but since I ordered it he tried the Crawfish Etouffee, so we could try two dishes. He really liked it, but I'm definitely glad I got the Shrimp Creole. The Etouffee was a smidgen too fishy for me, but the Shrimp Creole was on point and delicious. I asked for some hot sauce to have a kick of spice to it, too. Service was very friendly and attentive. They even brought us some water for the pups without us even asking. I also loved the inside decor with all the art that made me feel like I was visiting my sister back in New Orleans. We loved this place and I am so glad Yelp led us over here. Excellent! Anything The Faded Rose serves up - Great. Local owners have successfully brought New Orleans fare to Little Rock for over 30 years. Last dinner we had there, husband had his fave Redfish Pontchartrain - in our opinion, The Faded Rose's version sets the bar for that dish! And I had the grilled shrimp kabob - big tasty shrimp seasoned just right. Both dishes ample enough for two, made great leftovers. Lunch today was yummy small Mom's shrimp salad and Blackened chicken salad - huge with tons of chicken. They no longer have the banana cake but it's still on the menu. It's gone forever. They over cooked my steak. I ordered medium rare they gave me medium well. The waitress kept disappearing for 10-15 minutes at a time. They were pretty slow at 7pm when we arrived. She mentioned peanut butter pie for dessert but they ran out. I have no complaints. My gumbo was more meat than rice (I prefer this). The shrimp creole was well seasoned, the sauce was phenomenal, and the rice to meat to sauce to vegetable ratio was perfect.
