The Hop shop is one of our favorite places in the summer. We take our dogs. We grab a beer and sit outside. They also have trivia night.

The amount of beers on tap has just skyrocketed since last time we visited this spot. They also have wine options. The food is excellent and service is fast. We ordered and food was out within 10 minutes. The place is very family friendly. They have an outdoor space and indoor space. Great spot in poway right where the farmers market is on saturdays! We stopped by to grab some food on a Friday, it wasn't busy and service was quick. Love this local gem. The Hop Stop is our lady's hiking group's go-to restaurant. We love everything about this restaurant! Ambiance: It has the Martha's Vineyard vibe to it, relaxing, vibrating, and casual. They have a big outdoor space for big parties. Our hiking group hosted annual costume parties (back-to-back years ) and a number of birthday parties here. They also have a fenced-in cute area for kids on the artificial turf, hence, good for kids' parties. Live music on specific days and makes the whole dining experience more fun and festive. Big screen TVs for spots lovers. Bonus point: Parking is a breeze. Food and drink: The menu is typical of bar food with Mexican American dishes. My favorites are their tacos and veggie pizza. The best veggie pizza I have ever had. The size is on the smaller side but the price is good so no complaints here. It comes with green goddess dressing, mozzarella and Parmesan, onions, sliced tomatoes, green bell peppers, and spinach. Just the right combination. The fish taco tastes very fresh and fried properly. I am a bit of a fish taco snob and I give it five stars. The Shrimp taco is not on par with the fish taco but is tolerable. Almost everyone in our hiking group gives thumbs up for the fries. It comes in a huge size. My friend immensely enjoyed the Fried pickles and couldn't stop raving about it. Try it out if you are in the mood. They have a revolving beer menu. Beers are curated very well. I love the IPA. Green apple cider beer is exceptional too. Loved this place! We will definitely be back, the staff were great, the seating was both indoors and outdoors. The food and beer selection on the Fourth of July fit the needs of our group. The blue cheese for dipping seemed like it was out of a can .Bland.. The flatbread was a piece of dough that was deep-fried, smeared with what was supposed to be garlic aïoli, and then had some spinach or lettuce thrown on top. This gem has something for everyone. There are things for the kids to do, the kids are corralled and can play a bit, they are dog friendly, they have a good beer selection, they have plenty of different items on the menu- all good....they have great live music and trivia nights. They have a large outside patio and some inside seating. And in case you don't know, you order at the bar and go grab a table while you wait. Super simple like lots of places. We came in around 6pm on a Saturday, it was pretty busy but it wasn't a zoo. Parking was pretty easy. They had live music while we were there so that was pretty cool. The patio is a nice place if the weather is good. It's pretty kid friendly. My kids loved their cheese burger and pizza. The fries were above average, nice and crispy. My wife really enjoyed her birria sandwich. I didn't really love my vegan plate as much as the rest of my family enjoyed their food but it was edible. I still enjoyed the visit over all. read more

The outdoor seating area was nice although a lot of young kids (like toddler age) running around which I don't mind but word of caution for people with puppies that may still be "nip-happy". I enjoyed their Apple Pineapple Hard and Apple Pomegranate Ciders. I was pleasantly surprised by their food menu as well. We ordered a huge pretzel which was so soft and chewy...We loved it ! We also really enjoyed our other orders: the Cobb salad and beet and arugula salad, chips with guacamole, ahi ceviche tostada, and meat lover pizza. This is a great new addition to liven up Old Poway! The only thing I would suggest for the owners to improve upon is the slow service to order. Their system is to order at the counter and then they give you a number that you take to your table. Then they bring you the food. The person working behind the counter was a bit slow tonight. We held my husbands Birthday/Retirement Party here with over 35 people. Everything was perfect! The food came out smoothly and hot to the correct tables and guests and was Delicious. Atmosphere was AWESOME and JP was the BEST! He is very helpful, attentive, friendly, patient, and thoughtful. He made the night PERFECT! When you walk in everyone is standing there trying to figure out where to order and then lines will start appearing behind others. You take your order then they give you a number. When it's busy it's chaos the poor servers have to find your number in large crowds and they look a bit overwhelmed, especially when events are going on. I saw a bunch of kids running around in the back as with no supervision and it's a bit chaotic. It is dog friendly so that's nice. Anyways, I was standing in line and was up next waiting and the cashier skipped me and tried to get the Caucasian mans order behind me. I was kind of confused and in disbelief. Her coworker kept shouting that I was next and she kinda ignored him but the nice man behind me said that I was up next and she took my order. Not sure if she genuinely didn't know or does not like people of my ethnic group but she was a bit sassy. It's my first time here and I asked for water and she was snarky saying to get it in the back. Also, the water in the back is warm. Ask them for ice. Idk that whole situation rubbed me a bit wrong. Also, you can't change any of the menu items. I wanted French fries instead of tots for my poutine but she said they don't make it like that because they get soggy. But i like soggy. We've been meaning to come here but aren't ready to dine in so we ordered takeout for the Pirolli family fundraiser. The food was not great. Pizza dough is more like flatbread. The cheese pizza was rather bland and the only thing that saved the veggie pizza was the pesto sauce. It looked like they used tomato and onion burger toppings as the veggies. Beet and arugula salad was ok but lacked any kind of creativity or presentation. In fact the giant styrofoam container was about half full and the container was upside down so the dressing dripped out of the vent holes. The adult grilled cheese looks good when reading the description but all you could taste was bacon. The cheese was kind of like a nacho sauce in texture and you couldn't taste the jalapeño. Bread was burned and it looked quite sad on its own in a giant foam container. We will try again when we are comfortable dining in. Looks like a good beer list. I'm hoping this place does well, it's walking distance from home and looks like a great concept. read more
