No food is served but they allow you to bring in outside food, and there's plenty nearby, including Sombrero's Mexican food right next-door. Friendly service and several TVs. She was super sweet and made a fantastic Dirty Martini! Yum!!! They also have a great selection of beer on tap! Although there is no good they have a selection of snacks on hand! I've been coming to Conway's since the night of my 21st birthday almost sixteen years ago and it will always be a special place to me. Rob, Troy, Chad and all the other regular bartenders have always been awesome and really get to know their patrons. Conway's is a smaller establishment, but for its size has several TVs, decent bar seating as well as round tables, chairs and a long bench seat making this a great place for individuals or groups to catch up, or watch a game. The pub features a fantastic beer selection and great whiskey/ bourbon selection as well compared to other places in the area. As if the staff and drink selection wasn't enough, this place is very reasonably priced and I love that about it because some other local places are absurdly overpriced. All three of these factors make this one of my favorite bars in San Diego. One can usually gauge the quality of a bar based on the people that work there, but also the regulars that you meet there. Conway's is definitely a neighborhood pub that might not be well known about by those unfamiliar with the area, but this just adds to its charm. I've talked with several regulars who have been going there for 20+ years and it's great having a locals bar so close to home. Being a huge fan of dive bars and pubs. Conway's as of the past year or so has become even more special to me because this is where I met my now girlfriend about a year and a half ago over a glass of Weller. Where to start? I suppose it was a scorching hot summer Saturday on 2003. My car was in the shop and they'd loaned me a convertible. So I was out all day, top down, wind in my hair, (which I had a lot of back then) enjoying San Diego. I got a good tan that day. On my way back north I was burning up and needed a cold beer. I vaguely remembered an Irish pub tucked away behind the Olive Garden in Carmel Mountain Ranch. I roared into the parking lot and drove straight into a spot, right in front of a sign reading Irish Pub. They didn't call it Conway's back then. Lots of people outside, very friendly. Especially this really nice lady, Mary. She welcomed me like I was a weary traveler or long lost family member. She told me I'd become a regular. And that's about all it took. I become a regular. I got to know all the bartenders, Mikey, Troy, Big Daddy. I got to know everyone's wives, girlfriends, husbands and boyfriends. I got to know the owner, Rob, who always teased me about needing a booster chair to see over the bar! Hahaha. Smart ass. I got to know all of the many other regulars. All of those people, and many, many more, became my friends. We drank a lot of 'Blasters,' a brilliant concoction of Red Bull and Jäegermeister. Conway's was a consistent part of my life for 15-16 years, I can't quite remember exactly. It really was like a family, full of happiness and fun along with the occasional conflict and drama. Somewhere along the line I stopped coming in as much. It was partly a function of me getting older, partly because it became a new, different, younger crowd at the bar. I realized I was too old to be chasing 25 year old girls! I'll never forget the moment I felt like a dirty old man when this beautiful young woman asked me how old I was. I was like a slow death, with my life flashing before my eyes! So my visits became less frequent and I lost touch with my old friends. And that was that. I was no longer a regular. It was a awesome phase of my life, but like they say, all good things must come to an end. So it was especially sweet to return yesterday after grabbing burritos next door, walking in and seeing my buddy Dave sitting there at the bar, smiling at me. Great guy. Looks exactly the same. And guess who I saw next? Mary! And then Mike, who always paid for drinks, super generous guy. And more people. It was kind of like a homecoming of sorts. And it hit me. Conway's isn't really a bar at all. More like a room full of good people, a happy place with beautiful, slightly fuzzy memories. That's Conway's. read more

This bar is awesome! I love dive bars. I had great times at dive bars when I lived in Michigan. I'm 31 and I'm not into clubs or loud music or people bumping shoulders touching me. This bar is calm and relaxed. It was my first time going in last night and Jason and Chad waited on me. I haven't had a chance to chat with locals yet but maybe I'll meet more people if I go in on the regular. I'm new to the area and hope to meet relaxed people. They pour some great drinks. This bar is literally around the corner and across the street from me. Closer than I thought. I'm glad it's very welcoming so far. I think I'll be hooked to this bar. Disappointed to say the least! Younger female bartender working during the day time maybe like late 20s, super rude! I was trying to speak to her because I was by myself but she was so hungover it was very distasteful. Dropped by here with Mr. W as it was close by to where I was at on a Monday night and hung around. Had a lovely time trying the banana rum shot (us both) and then I believe a shot of the pineapple ciroc. Pretty tasty stuff. Bartender was super sweet to us. Known to most as just The Pub. Its the greatest bar in the area for sure... been going there for 6 years. Great bartenders that really know their customers! We love our guys- Troy, Mikey, Danny and Paul. And the lovely ladies- Becca and Tammy! And we cant forget 'ol man Rob...current and great owner of The Pub! Just like others have said... its a very "regulars" oriented bar. Theres a really big "we're all family here" feeling. But everyones welcoming and cool so dont be put off. A friend and I came here after work for a drink. It's a small bar and you can tell that most of the their clientele are regulars. This bar isn't anything fancy, actually it's a dive, but they serve strong, cheap drinks and you can't beat that. Everyone in the place was friendly and the bartender was great. Conways is an awesome place to grab a cheap drink with friends. Always friendly bar keeps, and on a few occasions where we have stayed awhile, we have scored a free shot. Can't say no to that! The restrooms are clean, the parking is plentiful, and the patrons are friendly as well. Everyone is just looking to watch the (insert sports team here) game and catch up with friends. If you find yourself a little buzzed (and not yet ready to drive - because responsible drinking is the best drinking, alongside day drinking obviously), you can always hop next door for a burrito, grab donuts at Sesame a couple doors over, or go for some pasta at Olive Garden. Great neighborhood pub! Visiting a friend recently and he brought us here for an ice cold beer on a hot day. Lindsey the bartender could not have been nicer. If you can get through the smokers on the way into the building, this isn't a bad find. Every time I've gone here or next door, there is always someone standing out front smoking. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and the clientele are primarily locals just out having a good time. You may feel out of place at first however the crowd warms up to you eventually. As others have indicated, the inside is small and it can get pretty crowded. We've stopped in here several times on our way to the restaurant next door and one of my favorite things about this bar is the fact that they know how to make a GREAT black and tan. If you're a fan of that, this is your place. They do have a full bar however if beer is not a choice of yours. Drinks are relatively inexpensive so you can make your dollar go a long way here. Service has always been good but as I said, you can expect some delays as the crowds get larger. That is nothing out of the ordinary. read more

Saw this little Irish pub while I was shopping at the Bev Mo near by. My wife and I were in SD for the weekend and I figured what the hell lets check it out. Its one of those places where you open the door and everyone looks to see who just walked in to their local watering hole. Bartender here was a little unfriendly and I just didn't feel a easy going vibe in the place. Not trying to bash the place but for the location drinks were not that cheap and the place is pretty haggard inside. Bad, hostile vibes abound! The front door area is nearly always a wall of bodies and secondhand smoke that is impossible to circumvent without a big fat lungful! The people standing around the door always seem to look as if they are angry about something. Maybe it's the lack of anything even remotely Irish! If you are looking for Irish, keep looking! This place is about as Irish as O'Bama. (Maybe try Callahan's in Mira Mesa). If you are looking for a place to smoke, drink and fight, you are in the right place! Cool deal at Conway's during Thursdays and Sundays. The football special which is $3 for Burnetts flavored vodka or $3 sweet tea vodka. I just found my new favorite drink...sweet tea vodka. Why have not tried this before. But I like the way Conways served it. Pretty big glass for $3. The patrons were pretty cool too. Everyone enjoying some football and having a good a time. Plenty of whiskey and scotch collection. They have a golf video game, ATM, a dartboard game, and some tv's. They have some cool Irish paraphanelia here too. But other than that and the cool $3 drinks, there were no other positives coming from this place. The second hand - I on occasion enjoy a cigar on a blue moon, but damn...the Marlboro team congregates right outside the entrance and for whatever reason loves to blow their shiz inside. I can bear it, but it comes to point where it justs too much Couldn't get a place at the bar because it was packed so me and my buddy sat at the table. So after a few minutes, we realized there were no table service so we had to go up to the bar ourselves. No biggie. But at least have the decency to clean off the table from the previous customers. Wet and sticky from whatever they were drinking. Also, there is no kitchen here. So if you expecting a nice corned beef platter or some fish and chips from this Irish Pub, think again. After a Costco visit in Carmel Mountian Ranch; this place is heaven on earth!!! Seems to be a local favorite, everyone knows everyone else's name and drink. The crowd is friendly and the drinks are strong. I think the average BAC of the place was .28. There are count em TWO, TWO large bottles of Belevedere!!!!!!!!!! They even have Grand Patron Platinum AND Horny Toes (sorry found it funny to hear Horinitos asked for like that) There is a taco shop, Carls Jr and a sub shop you can bring in food, they have a decent juke box, darts, Golden Tee Golf and the NFL Network. My home away from home. A friend of mine took me there for the first time and we went there every day after that. (only 8 nights). I'll be back! Everybody there is nice, fun to drink and talk with. I didn't expect food :) The on thing that had me thinking about a 4 star review is their beer selection. Just nothing that I'm really happy with.
