We've been meaning to come here but aren't ready to dine in so we ordered takeout for the Pirolli family fundraiser. The food was not great. Pizza dough is more like flatbread. The cheese pizza was rather bland and the only thing that saved the veggie pizza was the pesto sauce. It looked like they used tomato and onion burger toppings as the veggies. Beet and arugula salad was ok but lacked any kind of creativity or presentation. In fact the giant styrofoam container was about half full and the container was upside down so the dressing dripped out of the vent holes. The adult grilled cheese looks good when reading the description but all you could taste was bacon. The cheese was kind of like a nacho sauce in texture and you couldn't taste the jalapeño. Bread was burned and it looked quite sad on its own in a giant foam container. We will try again when we are comfortable dining in. Looks like a good beer list. I'm hoping this place does well, it's walking distance from home and looks like a great concept. read more

When you walk in everyone is standing there trying to figure out where to order and then lines will start appearing behind others. You take your order then they give you a number. When it's busy it's chaos the poor servers have to find your number in large crowds and they look a bit overwhelmed, especially when events are going on. I saw a bunch of kids running around in the back as with no supervision and it's a bit chaotic. It is dog friendly so that's nice. Anyways, I was standing in line and was up next waiting and the cashier skipped me and tried to get the Caucasian mans order behind me. I was kind of confused and in disbelief. Her coworker kept shouting that I was next and she kinda ignored him but the nice man behind me said that I was up next and she took my order. Not sure if she genuinely didn't know or does not like people of my ethnic group but she was a bit sassy. It's my first time here and I asked for water and she was snarky saying to get it in the back. Also, the water in the back is warm. Ask them for ice. Idk that whole situation rubbed me a bit wrong. Also, you can't change any of the menu items. I wanted French fries instead of tots for my poutine but she said they don't make it like that because they get soggy. But i like soggy. We held my husbands Birthday/Retirement Party here with over 35 people. Everything was perfect! The food came out smoothly and hot to the correct tables and guests and was Delicious. Atmosphere was AWESOME and JP was the BEST! He is very helpful, attentive, friendly, patient, and thoughtful. He made the night PERFECT! Great place to hang out, grab a bite to eat and a drink or two. Hop Stop is laid back, casual and just plain fun. The staff is incredibly nice and always smiling. The food is tasty, our favorites are the veggie pizza and tots but you really can't make a bad choice. They have kids meals as well. I remember counting down the days until The Hop Stop opened. It's easily the best craft beer bar in Poway. They always have a well-chosen draft list, but I especially appreciate that the last couple times I've been there, they've had one or two sours on tap, which you don't see at many places. It's hard for me to bring my kids here. I brought them a few times when it first opened, and they said they didn't like the food. Recently though I went by myself and had the vegan burrito, and it was fantastic. I'm talking so good, whenever I'm considering other burritos now, I can't help wondering if it'll be as good as the Hop Stop burrito (answer: no). I was telling my kids this today and it seemed to get through to them, so I think it's just a matter of time before we all come back. read more

I liked the place the minute I walked in. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere type set-up. They are dog friendly which was important as we have a new dog and could not leave him home alone while we went out. The Hop Stop is the perfect addition to the Old Poway Park community. It is a unique setting and they have done a great job with creating a space that fits right in. I tried this place out because I saw it had 4 stars. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. I had the pear salad with "steak". The steak was old dried up carne asada meat that is used for the nachos as well. I personally haven't had the experience of ordering steak in a salad and it be old chopped carne asada. Ample parking, menu is typical of bar food with a mexican american dishes. I personally thought the food was so so. Id go here for the dog runner area that is large enough for kids to run around in a confined spaced. Outdoor dining is not very shaded or cool, so think twice about when to go during the day.
