I was invited to The Hot Room by my boyfriend who signed up for the 2 week trial and ended up getting hooked. I couldn't believe how committed he was to his yoga and Pilates classes because in the 7 years I've known him, he never wanted to exercise. Suddenly he was going everyday and I could see him feeling and looking better. One day he said, "you should come with me, you'd love Petrina's class!" He was right, Petrina's class is full of energy and good vibes, you get an amazing full body workout that leaves you energized. I was impressed how she knew everyone by name and how she modifies for all levels. My boyfriend and I had a blast working out side by side. I could see why he felt so comfortable at this studio. Since then, we've been regulars in her class. One weekend we went to breakfast and the server recognized us from the studio. She said if you like Petrina's class, you should try Rosario's too. We did and we both loved Rosario's class too. Both instructors love what they do and it shows in the amazing classes that they deliver week after week. You will NEVER get bored! These ladies build relationships with their students and this is why The Hot Room is known for their sense of community. Nicole is another one of our favorites! I did the new student 2 week special June 16 to June 20. A few things I didn't like about the studio: - The studio is only open when there is a class. I felt rushed to get ready from a shower. The instructor was waiting until everyone left to lock up. - They say they are a friendly community but do not use beginner introductions/instructions in the class. - I took Petrina class and I felt very uncomfortable. The moment I walked in, I think a class just ended, and Petrina just yelled at me and said, "Hold on!" with one hand towards me. I just quietly walked around her to put my belongings away. I told her that I usually go to Rayoga but want to try something different. At the beginning of class, she made a comment about me not having a water bottle and I told her that I do not sip on water during a workout (something that I've done just naturally) and she made a weird face and "ohhhhkay." Also, Im new here so I didn't know they refer "ballerina" to the pilates ring. When the workout began, she went over and said, "oh, you didnt want to use the ring?" and I was taken by surprise and just said, "I didnt know we needed to get one." and then she hands me a ring. This was my last class. It did not feel like the best environment for me. read more

It was a great class but I can understand the reviews about the instructor Petrina being passive aggressive. She was great but I have social anxiety and she called me out in the middle of class for bringing my shoes in. I'm so used to the gym that I had my stuff laid next to me. I didn't walk in with my shoes. While I understand I'm sure it's standard practice to not have shoes in a Pilates class, I've been to several yoga and Pilates rooms where it was ok to have it and just keep it aside. Plus instructors typically scan the room first and announce it before class. Instead, she decided to call me out in the middle of class and had me get up to take care of it. I was embarrassed. Aside from that, I did appreciate her workout and it was overall a great class. read more

7/17/26 My girlfriend and I signed up for the 5:45 am class. Being first timers, we were excited to explore a new studio in the area. We arrived at around 5:40. The building seemed to have multiple entrances so we waited a few minutes to see if anyone would open the door. As we are waiting, a woman arrives in a hurry and starts speed walking over to the other side of the building. We immediately follow her because we realized she was heading for the entrance. As we were walking behind her, the instructor was about to shut the door on us for being "late." (He just let the other woman in, who was probably a member of the studio.) Kind of had to plea and say that we didn't know where the entrance was. He let us in. Checking us in, he tells us that we cannot drink water and only breathe out of our nose. And he stated that there is no leniency for class passers who are late. Off putting, but whatever. On class pass, they stated they had showers. As the class was wrapping up, my girlfriend needed to shower before work and he says she only has 2 minutes before the studio closes at 7. He, nor the app, said that they close at 7, so he is continuously rushing her. Overall, the workout was fine, but definitely need to consider being decent to first timers if you are trying to attract new members. Anyways, thanks for underwhelming experience. read more

I took the 5:45 AM class via class pass, and honestly I was excited to try Hot Yoga for the first time. And on the app it said this class was for all levels. First let's talk pros: Pros: -good parking lot - the yoga itself was good for all levels, including beginners. Cons: - the studio had a CRAZY rule of once you enter you can't leave as the instructor put it "we start together and we end together". - in the middle of the session my allergies started going crazy. So I started sniffing my nose (cause allergies), and the instructor legit says "no runny noses, just breathing" like I could control it ?! lol - the class was also WAY overbooked- I think the studio could fit 10 people comfortably, but there must've been like 20 of us. I felt bad as I was super close to another attendee. - and finally as the class was ending there was no real ending, he legit was walking out the door and was like namaste. I was like wtf? Hahaha Anyways if you're looking to try a hot yoga class maybe not this place. read more

Moved to the area a year ago on temporary assignment, and based my search for housing on proximity to a highly rated hot yoga/pilates studio. The Hot Room does not disappoint! Quality instructors, all with different instruction styles, a clean, well managed space, and no drama. It is readily apparent that the teachers care about the students, care about the quality of instruction, and care about motivation for self improvement. This is not an 'Ohm'-y studio, you won't find healing crystals or lectures about your chakra.. It's a place to come to get fit and improve your health, and improve mobility. The instructors respect the schedule and follow guidelines that benefit the group - like starting and finishing on time, capping classes to prevent people from being on top of each other, and being respectful to all. Equipment is well maintained and sanitized / cleaned by students after each class. 5 stars. read more

Clean studio with showers! Every instructor has a different style; I love how hot the room gets, it feels like I'm detoxing everything and it's very rejuvenating -- my muscles feel so loose. Parking is plentiful. Hot Pilates sculpt with Petrina is one of the most challenging classes I've ever taken in my life, and I'm no stranger to HITT workouts! A few notes for brand-new folks: The bikram 60-80 minute classes are slightly more intense and disciplined than your typical chain yoga studio (for example it's usually frowned upon to take water breaks in between postures; obviously you can take water if you need it but just general practice). I enjoy this style personally but know that the bikram approach is different and not for everyone so you're not thrown off guard. The Pilates classes and the other classes they offer (vinyasa, stretching, etc.) are more standard and what you would expect though. Make sure to listen to your body and not push it past the point of sharp stabbing pain, I'd recommend giving a heads up to the instructor beforehand if you're rehabbing an injury for help with modifications (especially if you're taking a bikram class). Lastly, this studio will not hesitate to lock you out if you arrive even a minute late as there is typically no front desk staff (it's studio policy), so make sure to be on time and early if possible since spots get filled up fast for the popular classes. read more

It's Magic! I have never been a person that enjoys working out. But the energy that I experience at Petrina's pilates sculpt is contagious and motivating. It fires me up and helps to encourage me to power through tough moments. Now I find myself looking forward to her workouts. They are really FUN and for me that's a 180 degree change compared to my previous outlook on exercise. I don't recognize myself because I look forward to the next party! Melba's hot yoga class makes me feel supported and encouraged as I work on my core strength and improve my flexibility. She cares about your fitness and brings her years of experience to her classes to teach you skills that help you to improve the various asanas. Attending these classes has helped me to become stronger and more flexible. Nicole's yoga 90 class is wonderful! She's very knowledgeable & teaches us to articulate different body parts so we can keep the range of motion that we have and improve upon it. Fighting autoimmune disorders and coming off of multiple spinal surgeries, this place has become my second home and saving grace. All of the teachers offer me modifications because of my 6 spinal surgeries. This being the case, I'm confused by Jayden H leaving a terrible review for Petrina. Because I go consistently, I remember this person. None of the things she said ever happened. I don't know why she's singling Petrina out in this review but it's a shame someone would go to such great lengths to disparage an amazing teacher. I knew right away that this poster was lying because she said the greeters were nice...but the teachers ARE the greeters at this studio & there are no receptionists or greeters on staff and it's not possible to have "cold hands" in a heated studio. I was shocked when I stumbled across that review, so much so that it prompted me to write this in response, as a regular student, who tries to go to at least one class a day when I'm well. I love this studio. I love all of the teachers, including Petrina (whose classes, by the way, are one of the most popular ones). The owner, Nicole, is an amazing person and teacher who has a gift for hiring exactly the right teachers. They have all been teaching for years and all reiterate to listen to our own bodies, even if they give direct instructions, because they don't know our bodies like we know our bodies ourselves. Again, I have no idea why Jayden H is taking time to leave an awful review, knowing multiple people were in attendance and remember that none of what she claims happened. I've been practicing hot yoga and mat Pilates for 20+ years and can say this studio has the best teachers you could ask for. Why someone came after Petrina specifically is beyond me, but I'm here to say nothing like that ever happens in any class, with any teacher, at this studio. I certainly hope one false review will not discourage others to take Petrina's classes because you will be amazed at how quickly your body will transform by taking her classes. The same goes for the other few "bad" reviews. Hot Yoga 75 with Nicole was an excellent class with an excellent instructor. I like that they rented out mats because the one I brought was way too thick. I aimed to go at non-peak times to get the full value of the class, but the 9:15am session was surprisingly packed, probably because it was MLK Jr. Day. Nonetheless, the energy in the room was great and peaceful. As someone who's not very experienced with yoga, I was nervous about the 75-minute class, but Nicole's flow and clear instructions made it approachable and enjoyable. The studio was very clean and smelled great, even with over 40 people in the room. l appreciatea how Nicole adjusted the movements to make sure we had enough space and didn't accidentally bonk each other in the face. Her adaptability to the limited space and crowded class stood out, as well as her frequent reminders, which helped me stay mindful and correct my tendency to hunch and tense up. The class struck a perfect balance-challenging enough to work up a sweat but not so hard that I felt overwhelmed. Nicole was welcoming from the moment I entered the studio until l left, making the experience even better. I'm considering becoming a regular here. Just had an amazing class with Petrina at The Hot Room for a Saturday Hot Pilates Sculpt class. Loved the music, the energy, the routine and the instructor. This class is definitely one to book ahead if you want to take as it's hard to get into FOR A REASON. They know what they're doing at THR. Policies and procedures are in place for a reason and I'm so glad they enforce them for the good of ALL patrons. Nothing is worse than some entitled random showing up AFTER the scheduled start of a class and expecting to join the session. It's disruptive & rude. Common courtesy (and policy) says to arrive 15 mins early to get settled and be ready to begin on time. Be respectful to everyone else in the 25 person class! Especially if you're a first time client, I'd recommend arriving 20 mins early to give yourself plenty of time to check in, put your things away (including your CELLPHONE- see the posted sign), and find a spot. read more

Petrina is an absolutely phenomenal Pilates instructor at The Hot Room Long Beach! She is incredibly dedicated to her students and truly pushes us beyond what we think our limits are every Saturday morning. I have never seen my body transform so quickly as it has since taking her classes. I initially started with pretty severe neck pain from an injury, and thanks to Petrina's expert guidance, I've seen tremendous improvement in my neck, back, and shoulders. Her Hot Pilates Sculpt Full Beast Mode class is no joke--it's intense, challenging, and exactly what you need if you're looking for a killer workout. This class is hands down so much better than any Megaformer class I've ever taken. If you're ready to sweat, strengthen, and see real results, I highly recommend taking Petrina's class. Melba Johnson represents what yoga is Not. She is negative, envious and represents this yoga studio in a bad way. I witnessed her kick out a poor young lady who came in after work. She had a little bit of make up in which The instructor (MELBA) said "look at her with all that make up " and continued to pick on her throughout the class until the poor young girl ended up getting up and leaving. Melba walked her out and open the door for her and she continued to make the young lady feel uncomfortable. I have practiced yoga for 4 years and have never came across such an instructor like Melba, I wish her the best and in what she is battling. I hope she understands this is not OK. read more

I booked a 75min hot yoga class through class pass. It was a great class and I definitely got a good workout in! Rosario was a great instructor and provided alternative poses for beginners. I liked that there was an upstairs woman's locker room with a space to change, shower, and use the restroom. I understand the problem with interruptions to the hot room but I cant understand why they dont have a person to answer the door ? Hands down the best yoga studio I've ever been to. The difference is in the quality of instruction: all of the teachers are so focused on form, making sure you're doing the correct movements for your body, and helping you understand how to teach your body how to move correctly. I go to three different classes by different instructors (hot yoga w Nicole, hot yoga with Mayu, and Pilates w Nicole) and each focuses on different skills. I've really been able to take my time to understand how my body responds to the poses and focus in on the muscles I need to develop. In the spirit of fairness, I can appreciate some of the negative reviews, but I am 100% certain they're all based on which teaching style you prefer. There were two teachers that I haven't had the best experience with, but Nicole, Mayu, and Petrina are all amazing. I can't recommend enough for you to see which classes suit you best. In the six months I've been going here, I've gained a ton of strength, gotten off of the advil and pain cream I used to use every night, and lost fifteen pounds (it might not all be from the yoga, I've definitely changed my sleep patterns and other things too, but I believe this had a lot to do with it.) If you're looking for instructors who really care about helping you, I can't recommend anything better than this. read more

I've been doing yoga a long time but I would not recommend these classes. They are controlling and rude and they don't embody what yoga is to me. Good yoga classes have encouraged everyone to listen to their bodies and do what they need to feel comfortable but this place does the opposite. I totally recommend this yoga studio, is full of life and good vives, offers different kinds of yoga classes , and Pilates, I tried most of them, the teachers are super friendly and encouraging. The class that I totally love the most is Petrina's pilates sculpt class , I totally feel a change in my body. Took hot yoga on Class Pass. While it was a great class that makes you break a sweat like crazy, what wasn't cool was that the instructor would NOT let my girlfriend leave to take breaks from the heat. She even had to use the bathroom and he wouldn't let her leave. She threw up in her mouth and had to swallow it. It was not a good experience and extremely restricting and not safe. Trust me, we love to break a sweat and exercise but when you're not letting people leave to take a break or listen to their bodies, that is not Namaste that is torture. read more

MELBA JOHNSON, is the perfect person to be teaching yoga, this day in age!! This original hot yoga has been around for a very long time and has a particular etiquette that new yogis do not have or even know about. So let's break this down: The first question of everyone that is not a regular student to the yoga studio: is this your first time/have you ever practiced this yoga? Every yoga instructor asks that question because there is a structure and formula to the yoga. So if you have on make up, an instructor who is looking out for you is going to say, it might be a good idea to keep face wipes or face cleanser to wash you face. If not, makeup is going to be all in your face. As far as spreading a towel down on your mat, this is to prevent slippage as the class progresses. Setting yourself up for success will allow more time for one to do their yoga practice instead of being distracted from the beginning! If one isn't doing the breathing (very first) posture correctly, it is normal for an instructor to say watch others in front of you. Melba Johnson, is one of the sweetest, kindest, generous and gorgeous people I know inside and out. There is not a jealous or envious bone in her body. Melba is a wonderful instructor of Bikram yoga! I was admittedly a little fearful of doing Hotyoga. I mean- I rarely did yoga, let alone in a 100 + degree room. But with the encouragement of my gf - I did it. My 1st class was with Melba and she was great. She encouraged me and everyone else that was new to take our time and just do their best. It was hard for me and I wanted to leave a lot of times; but it was something about the energy of the instructor and the participants that make you feel "....it's ok - we are all on the journey together..". As I breath out 2018 and with the completion of 500 Bikram Yoga class at The Hot Room Long Beach last week, I am so very grateful for this practice that helps me keep me in balance physically, mentally and even spiritual. This yoga practice has helped me keep me going in the things I have to do, as well as, helped me stay active as I age into a new decade of the sixties in the year 2019. I would have never known that breathing and stillness together would provide so many benefits if I did not get a reply after I contacted the Founder and original owner Rebekah of the studio by email after a weekend jog in my neighborhood almost 2 1/2 years ago. I was so very fortunate when Rebekah who later sold the studio to one of her Excellent Certified Bikram Yoga Instructor Nicole kept the studio alive for all of us to practice and she truly understands that our bodies are different every single day. My yoga practice in The Hot Room Long Beach is consistent (ranging from 3-5 days per week) with options to take classes in the morning, evenings and weekends and never have to be concern who is the Instructor, they are all Excellent. With these options I can continue to maintain a job and participate in other activities that I enjoy as going for bike rides, a jog, a hike, working out at the gym, Church and Social Clubs.. All these things I do better with the practice including being a husband, father and son. There remains many more challenges that I must tackle in the practice as the new year approaches. I will be travelling away to a place there is no Bikram Yoga Studios the first week of January for 3 weeks. This will be the longest period I will be away from the studio and practicing. I feel somewhat concern that I may lose a lot of the hard work put into the practice. I will have to be practicing Bikram on my own without the Instructors and the energy of so many yogis that I enjoy seeing, sharing their energies and without the heat and humidity which is also the part of the practice. Up to now, the most I have been away from the studio has been 4 days and my plans is bring my mat and to practice one set of the sequence of poses on my own during my trip. Also, when I return I have some big changes on the job at work and this will tax my time but with this practice I know it will help me get through it. Also, there is the 30 day Challenge always offer twice a year at the studio that I have yet to do. And still need to try Hot Pilates now offered at the studio. As I enter my senior years by continuing to practice Bikram Yoga at The Hot Room Long Beach I see things with a realm of possibility that I can face the challenges and improve not only my poses, my practice, my health, my mind, my spirit, my life and yes become a better version of me in 2019.
