Was going to a show at the Orpheum so we took a walk around the block to see where we could grab some food before the show. First place had an hour wait, second place told us that they were ' at capacity' ( didn't give us a wait time), third place didn't have a menu out front, and then we found the HUB PUB. Not too crowded, had plenty of tables available upstairs. One waitress was real friendly and the other just wanted to be someplace else, but she was serviceable and we got out of there with plenty of time to spare. Food was very good. Had the fish and chips, which ran under 15 bucks, which had good breading, was flaky, and quite tasty. It was a huge slab as well, and was most likely the best fish and chips Ive had in quite awhile. Krinkle cut fries and cole slaw probably came out of a bag but they were pretty good as well. If I were in the area again, I would most likely hit this place first next time. Good stuff. read more

Visiting from Texas. This was by far our favorite pub we visited while in town. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Loved being here!!!!

Normal priced place for drinks after work or a cheap lunch. Smells terrible inside, food is below par and because you are not one of the regulars, you will get dirty looks. I love dives and I hate this place. There are many other places nearby that are better. read more

Normally would be a 3 star dive bar, but for how hard it is to find cheap drinks in this area (Downtown/Faneuil) and the general "Don't give a shit" vibe it puts out, Hub Pub gets bumped to 4 stars. Nothing special, but nothing that really bothers you. The crowd is young professionals after work but after that is anyone's guess, since no one plans to spend the night at Hub Pub. Service is friendly and extremely Irish. There's a bouncer with a ridiculous mustache that stands on a chair and sings an ol' Irish tune. They don't really care if you play drinking games. If I make the trip out to Faneuil Hall and realize I'm not loosened up enough to deal with all of Faneuil's shenanigans (which I'm often not), I'll quickly run to Hub Pub to get a pitcher or three. read more

it's an ok little pub... and usually not too crowded, but yet that might tell you something not the most welcoming sight when entering... and the upstairs looked abandoned, so we sat at the oddly shaped tables downstairs had a pitcher of harpoon, which was great! looking around, it seemed to be a lack-luster crowd of ten people at the bar... but maybe cause it was a tuesday night...? The waitress gave us good service... again probably cause the place was dead. the burger/club was decent but lacked girth and the fries weren't anything to write home about. the stairs to the restroom were quite treacherous... so be careful if you've had a couple. that walk of shame could be your last! So this is an ok place to have quiet pitcher of beer... but if i go back, it won't be cause of my vote read more

OK, preface this review with the fact that we were randomly wandering Beacon Hill at 4 in the afternoon and had one drink here. But the atmosphere was pretty great and the regulars and bartenders were fun! I don't know what it's like at night, but it was great to stop into and kill some time. I didn't feel like I was in a tourist trap or being ripped off or anything either. So. I'm a fan! I'll go back next time I'm on Beacon Hill. Which will probably be a while. read more

After walking around downtown crossing this past Saturday, my fiance and I decided to grab a bite to eat. Many places were closed (which I thought to be odd on a Saturday), but we finally came upon the Hub Pub. The fare was ok. I had a burger which was about average. The fries were very crispy tho, which I LOVE. My fiance had the nachos. They came piled high with chili and all the standard goodness nachos should come with. Only 3 stars because the food was about average, the decor was ok, nothing great tho and there was not a huge selection of beer on tap. I would go back again tho, it was a relaxing experience overall. read more

This place is the best if you looking for cheap beer and good home-style pub eats. They also make the strongest mix drinks in town. These factors combined make it the best in the area, where else can you get pitchers and food for this cheap? Bartenders are fun and very friendly(excluding Sundays), but one angry server and dirty bathrooms are the sole downfalls of this place. While most bars in the area have sold out to the hipsters and jacked prices, Hub Pub remains the last beacon of hope for those looking for that good ole fashioned boston pub experience. read more

Last bar of the night on the way back to Park street T. It was good enough for what I was expecting which was a place where we could grab a final beer. BUT the only person who got their first choice beer was the one ordering a heineken, the three other beers on tap (including blue moon) were not available. Lame. The nachos were alright and came out quickly for 12:00 at night. Music is not too too loud. We were able to talk over it and it was pretty empty so we got a table. read more

Solid Boston pub with the best deal on a lobster roll in the city (& it aint half bad). Nice little upstairs with skee ball and a decent draft list. Off the beaten path so there's a nice mix of locals and tourists exploring the area. One of my favorite Boston pubs. read more

This was the first bar I went into when I moved to Boston and I go back whenever I'm in the area. It's nothing special to most, but the atmosphere is laid back, the bartenders and patrons are friendly, and they have soft pretzels on the menu. For me, I enjoy a great dive bar, especially of the Irish descent, and this fits the bill. Overall it's a great place to just grab a beer and relax. read more

Billed as the "Friendliest Pub in the Hub," this nice-sized bar is located on the other side of Washington Street and close to Boston Common, City Hall, etc. Definitely a nice inside with seating upstairs and TVs everywhere. They had the good standard beers and a very friendly bartender. read more

If your bartender is going to kick 10 people out on a Thursday night because someone complains that the service is too slow (30 minute wait time) and offends your bartender, then better luck next time. I get it, it sucks to be a bartender - but that's still excessive overkill - and honestly, if it had been a Friday or Saturday night I doubt this would have happened. First of all, because the staff would have been too busy to care, and second of all, because people wouldn't have complained about the wait. But since there were empty spaces at the bar and upstairs, I feel like it wasn't unreasonable to expect decent service. As it was, we went to the bar across the street and got excellent beers and service the rest of the night from 9 to 11 PM. Win for us. read more

(I swear I wrote a review for this place already...) So we tried to go to Sam LaGrassa's for lunch but it is only open on the weekdays! We ended up here instead and when we walked in, a guy told us he would be right back but he had to change a keg. We actually sat upstairs because it was a bit awkward down there and we had a friendly server. They had cheap pitchers of Coors Light so we ordered one, along with some sandwiches. They have a really big old TV that needs replacing and they were also playing some Tyler Perry movie...what? Oh well, just added to the quirkiness! Husby got a burger, which was alright. However, my hot pastrami sandwich was better than I expected! It was juicy, warm, a bit chewy, and hit the spot. The fries were crunchy on the outside and a bit mealy on the inside - good but not great. I'm not sure how it is at night but while it was interesting, I am not sure that I would make it a point to come back. read more

It's one of the few places that you can go to in Downtown that has seating for big groups and you can show up without a reservation and get a table. For some, that's a bad thing, not me. They have cheap pitchers of beer, decent priced drinks, a damn tasty fresh roll for it's sandwiches, good fries and the waitstaff sometimes has Irish accents. This bar is tucked away on a side street. After being in here once, you know why. It's divey. The bathroom smells like a piss and puke combo. Good selection of draft beer. It's dark. I just went there tonight with some friends tonight for dinner. We were seated on the upper level for dinner and drinks. There were 5 of us sitting up there. As we were waiting for our meal one of my friends said that he saw a rat. I laughed and told him that he was crazy. Then another friend saw a rat then I saw a rat. When we told the waitress she said that the owner would be notified. When she came back up again the rat ran across her path. She never once apologized or offered us so much as a free drink. We paid the check and scurried out. I won't be going back there again anytime soon. read more

I've been here a few times. The crowd varies from visit to visit. Some hostiles but mainly VERY friendly people who get to know your name in minutes and begin the trade of buying drinks for one another. Great staff, especially Heather. She always remembers my drinks in spite of only a few appearances. Great girl and as genuine as you can be without being overbearing. A good after work bar for a boisterous crowd. Place is good for late night drinks and pool. The inside is actually really cool to so its worth a visit just to see the inside.

I stopped in for lunch. Why? because someone told me the food was good here. It's a dive bar. (I don't drink, so that appeal is gone for me) The bartender was nice. I didn't feel at all like the regulars were giving me the hairy eyeball, but then, I was there right at lunch time, and eating. I got a BLT sandwich. It was passable. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but if someone said I want to try the Hub Pub I wouldn't deny them and go again. The fries were of the frozen variety, and I honestly felt they could have thrown a few more on my plate to fill it out a bit. I didn't think it was any great bargain either. It was $7.99. Not expensive, but it was a few slices of bacon some iceberg lettuce and toast. Like I said, the fries were a little sparse. read more

I used to hang out here with all the Parker House regulars. It was fun back in the day...been back since, not the same. Kinda lame.

The sign says it's the friendliest place in Boston. The door guy was very nice, although he was definitely goaded into being super friendly by the drunk townie who was hanging out with him. But, they were nice and funny. On the inside, our waitress seemed annoyed to have to serve us. She didn't make eye contact and immediately after dropping our drinks at the table, she returned to reading her celebrity gossip magazine a few seats away from us. The ambiance is very Boston--Sox game is on, old flyers laminated onto the tables. It's kitchy, but not annoyingly so. I was a little surprised at the beer selection--thought there would be more options, but it was fine. Something very strange, however, happens in the bathrooms in the basement. The bar is a very comfortable temperature. But, venture to the restroom and you are hit with a blast of hot air so intense you can barely breathe. At least they were playing "I've Had the Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing. That made it more comical. AND, I wish I had experienced this, but from 4-7 pm on weeknights, they have a happy hour with 25 cent hot dogs! How awesome is that!??!?!?!? read more

The bf & I rather enjoyed this hole in the wall divey joint. The beer was average or bit less in price and they had a decent selection. It really seemed like a regulars type place. We went in August and stayed in the Theater District so baseball was on all of the tellys and this place was close to our bed for a convenient hike "home". My only complaint is that the downstairs restrooms were as hot as a sauna. I actually thought that I might pass out from the alcohol + blaring heat. read more

A decent local bar to grab a beer and relax from touristing. They have some local brews on tap, and a chill vibe.

The food was tasty, however the service was a little slow. I did go there for dinner/drinks before a Pixies show, but there were only 2 servers for an entire floor! Also, I do not think you should have to ask specifically (twice) for blue cheese dressing when you order buffalo chicken tenders! I love how they had pitchers by the beer though. Awful! It is extremely loud here even without any music on. The entrees are priced between 12-20$, but are in such small portions it's ridiculous. The food is sub-par and my iced tea actually tasted bad. I have no idea how to make bad iced tea, but they did it. I will not be coming back here again. I love Hub Pub! It's definitely an after-work drink destination. But this place can get pretty crowded and doesn't accommodate large groups very well in terms of seating.
