I. Love. Debris. Okay, before you quote me on that: I love Debris Po Boys here in Mobile. I arrived at my hotel, I was tired, and just wanted a bite that wasn't a. fast food or b. catered to tourists. Debris delivered and then some. First, it's my type of place: dive bar with tables. Not all over-decorated. The moment you walk in, you feel like you're in a local tavern. No one was at the door but they saw me and just let me take a seat. The menu came over, the table was a little sticky, and they came and wiped it even though I said not to bother, I'm fine. The menu: Drinks are a bit limited. Good selection of bottles, rather limited on tap, but I found a good brew. And for food, you can't go wrong. Obviously, with the name, I chose a Po Boy - the standard Debris with the beef and au jus. I wish I could give more than 5 stars for that elegantly massive hulk. Dripping in its jus, which I still sopped up off my plate. Oh, I could easily eat a second one of those no matter how full I am. Sinfully good. I wish my conference didn't feed me so much, or I would have come back here every night. I did my best to recommend it to everyone else who was looking for lunch or dinner. Let me tell you, the staff here? Absolutely wonderful. Friendly, welcoming, and had our food out so fast I almost thought they were waiting for me to sit down before they started cooking. Visited Debris for lunch celebrating a friend's retirement. We started with some fun drinks including the Violet Fog (seasonal) and a Margarita, a menu staple. Both were delicious! Will, our waiter, was happy to make suggestions and answer questions. We all decided on half a sandwich with a cup of gumbo. Their gumbo is the BEST I have had in a long time. A brown roux base is complimented with nice size shrimp and seasoning. 10/10 Our sandwiches were the blackened shrimp and Oyster Rockefeller po-boy. Both were great portions and delicious. The sandwiches came with Zapps chips, and if you have a favorite Zapps just ask if they have them! The restaurant has a bar almost the length of the dining room with ample seating. We had multiple screens to keep an eye on the Olympics while we enjoyed celebrating and our time together. The vibe is casual and we agreed it reminds us of the best of New Orleans. While I'm the Promised Land, I asked my little sister where I should eat and without much hesitation she said Debris. And also instructed me on what to get. I made my way downtown and was warmly greeted (this is the South after all) and told to sit wherever I wanted. The very adorable waitress came over and took my drink order, and when she returned, I told her this was my Virgin Voyage. She began to tell me about specials but I said my sister said I should order: "The Bowl" and I should get the Fish Of The Day (lucky for me it was Red Fish) fried or blackened (I chose the ladder) with Collards and Cheese Grits and a side of Fried Okra. The adorable waitress said she's correct, she has been here before. My food arrives and it is a lot even by Southern Meat And Three standards. I dive right in and I'll Be DAMNED (in my Florida Evens Voice) it was delicious! My first thought was "those Greens taste like Miss Emma Mae been cooking all day!" My second thought was "this is the South so it could be some guy named Brian who's been cooking with his MeMa since he was six". Again I can't accurately express how wonderfully delicious that bowl of was during my visit. After a long day (9+hr) of driving, we wanted some easy takeout to drag back to our hotel. Saw some good reviews on this place, and it was just a 3 block walk. Checked into the hotel and ambled over... Got the blackened mahi and debris po' boys. Large, which came with a bag of chips. We managed to eat half of the sandwiches, and saved the rest for lunch the next day. Each half of the mahi sandwich had such a large piece that I had to eat half of the filet just so the sandwich would actually close. He had to pretty do much the same with his meat. (Not a complaint, more descriptive of how loaded the sandwiches were.) Both were very good - and the fresh crusty bread was a great counterpoint to the lettuce/tomatoes and dense meat. Got the sauces in containers and got 5; something cocktail-sauce-ish, a remoulade, tartar-sauce-ish, au jus, and I think something creole&mayo. You will not be disappointed. I was down at the MOB Music Festival and wanted to find something to eat. There are way too many options to choose from downtown. Debris was decided on after a number of considerations. After selecting the restaurant I then had to decide what I wanted to eat. I wasn't in any particular mood for a specific thing. I perused through the menu for what seemed like forever. The waitress was very patient with me. I really appreciated that. The boudin balls poboy was the decision I made. My date selected the debris. My food came out and it looked delicious. It also looked like it was carefully prepared. It was artistic. Anyway the meal came with zapp's chips. I love zapp's. All the boudin sausage I have eaten have rice mixed in with the meat. This was different. The meat was shredded. It was really good. I loved the pickled onions and the creole mayo. I even enjoyed the slaw. The tangy flavor really made this poboy stand out. Nice little bar/restaurant on the main drag in Mobile. We went during lunch, and there was seating at high tables, the bar, and outside. They had lots of daily specials. I could have rated Debris a 4. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great. I think it was a good meal and not overly expensive. Service was top notch. Our table ordered several items off the special and regular menu. In general the overall opinion on the food was that it lacked a bit of salt/flavor. It also needed a bit more sauce/moister on the sandwiches. The portion sizes were fine. Hot Dagwood: Loaded up with pork, beef, and turkey. This was a loaded sandwich. It was a good fulfilling Po-boy, however only the pork had good flavor, the Turkey was a bit dry and the beef needed a kick of spice. I ended up putting a good bit of hot sauce on the sandwich. In the end it was not bad at all, but not great. Crawfish mac and cheese: This was a daily special item. It had a good flavor and a decent amount of crawfish. However It needed a bit more cheese/sauce, the noodles were a bit on the dry/non creamy side. BLT: Three nice strips of bacon and fried green tomatoes. This was a nice BLT po boy I would Recommend if you are in the mood for bacon. Debris po boy: Good portion of tender beef. It needed a bit more flavor the Au Jus was a nice addition to moisten the bread. Seafood Gumbo: Not bad as far a flavor, however the portion is a bit smallish. If you are in the area and looking for something to eat, I would give Debris a try. It I think we probably caught them on an off day and I could see this place bring a 5 star if everything was hitting properly. I would recommend and I would love to give them another try. read more

Probably the best po boy in south Alabama. I had the soft shell po boy and my wife had the BLT. There are also eight other good looking choices. The slaw on the side was so good I put a few clumps on my sandwich. It's home made and very good. The place is a clean and nice bar setting and the big doors all open on nice days. My wife and I stopped in for a dinner while touring a little bit in the Mobile area before heading back to Pensacola. We use the Yelp and their reviews to find Debris. Spacious, well kept, and clean Debris was a lovely stop. We decided to sit at the bar. Our waitress/bartender did a terrific job. She was personal and professional and gave excellent recommendations. I wanted local so I decided on their fried oyster Poboy and a side of gumbo. My wife decided on their fried green tomato sandwich. For beverages I went for a local IPA and my wife one of their specialty cocktails which were delicious! Our food came out relatively quickly and was spectacularly delicious! Stop by Debris on our long road trip home. Came in on a Saturday around noon and decided to try them out based on the good reviews. Well those reviews were not lying. My family and I ordered the Blackened Mahi Po Boys, Caesar Salad, Fried Okra, and Potato Salad. Now the last two we added on some salt and pepper but that's normal for us. The Mahi Po Boys were made to perfection!! We did not have to add anything to them. Glad we stopped in to get them. As someone else mentioned in these reviews there is a charge to use credit cards so be aware. Our server was also very nice. Seems like a friendly atmosphere. Ive heard grave reviews about Debris. However, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. I had a bbq shrimp Pistolette. The shrimp was great, but the bread tasted real greasy. I know its fried, but it tasted like soaked up grease...to much for me. My wife had a boudin po boy. She said it was just "ok" she didn't like the way the slaw tasted on it. They don't have a kids menu, but they did cook a grill cheese for my kids. It wasn't much of a grill cheese, 2 poy boy buns stuck together by cheese. The service was great, but the food wasn't so hot and its more of a pub (bar) so I wouldn't recommend taking your kids. read more

This place is shady. I called in a to go order while I was driving through Mobile. I picked up my order with no issues but about a week after I received a fraud alert email from my credit card company asking if I left a 46% tip, on a to go order I did not do that. I called several times and spoke with several people letting them know the tip amount had been changed and it has not been resolved, no one has taken responsibility to fixing it. I would highly suggest that if you decide to go here pay cash so they do not do the same thing to you. read more
