Amazing local store with unique pet items. Spacious. Conveniently located in downtown Somerville. Literally stumbled upon this place walking around Somerville. They carry some unique brands that I haven't seen in person before. Such a huge selection. Big brands and small brands. I received a sample of the magic dust and my dog fell in love with it. She's a picky eater and the magic dust, which is just dehydrated protein, was a great motivator. The staff was super friendly. I can't wait to come back and bring my pup next time.

Got a cake here for my puppy. She loved it and it didn't upset her tummy. I've also gotten the dog ice cream here with bacon. All the food here was great for her!

If you are a dog parent, you must stop by here because there are so many things you could buy for your dog. The main reason this place is so awesome is their baked treats, which are all baked onsite in their bakery. They have yummy sounding and looking treats. My dog went crazy over them. They do sell some mini cakes. And, if you want, you can custom order cakes for your dog. They are all made with wholesome ingredients, so you could even eat them, but not sure if you want to eat a cookie called liver snaps. They have everything you might need for your dog - clothes, bandanas, treats, toys, treatments, beds, and even ice cream. I had to stop myself from buying everything in the store. When I went, it wasn't crowded at all and I had no issues with the staff there. Whoever was helping me was super helpful and answered all my questions. So, if you are in the area, I definitely encourage you to stop by and I bet your dog will be very happy when you come back home with one of their yummy treats. My dog definitely was!

We drove about a hour with our two frenchies to see what this awesome store had to offer. It was one of our pups birthday so we obviously needed a birthday cake for her. Unfortunately I didn't take many pictures but when we arrived the staff was very friendly and our dogs were on a mission for treats and a new toy. My big one got to pick out a toy that he loved of course and loved the pb&j treat they gave him. We got the smaller peanut butter cake which is really soft and perfect for our frenchies. They loved the cake. It was a perfect size for them to split over two days and well worth the 20 dollar price. We also scooped up a few treats that they will try in the upcoming days! We picked up a new food topper since my big one has been pretty picky lately and so far so good. Needless to say this store was truly impressive. It was huge and I love that they bake all their treats and cakes on premises.

I spoke to the owner Rob ,he confirmed my appointment and said the drop off is between 8-9am. I specifically asked him how long will it take and when can I pick up my dog? I had a doctors appointment at 3p ... Rob confirmed back to me a time of between 12- 1pm he put me on hold and checked with Amy the groomer..I thought this was strange because I've had 15 different types of dogs who were all groomed over the years and it never took longer then 2-3 hours..( I know a little something about grooming bc my cousin who was on vacation is a groomer and I've helped her in the past.) I wanted to give PUP PURRI GROOMERS the benefit of the doubt so I agreed.. After waiting 7 hours for what I thought was a grooming I called back only to find out he was never groomed which is beyond CRAZY! When I called and questioned what was taking so long and that 7 hours had passed, the owner Rob got very nasty on the phone and explained that just because I was the first one to drop off my dog at 8a he wouldn't be groomed first...THIS IS A VERY UNUSUAL PROCEDURE. Every groomer I have ever used in NJ and Florida would honor your appointment and within an hour maybe two I would get a call to pickup my dogs..( I had two poms at that time and they were still groomed faster!) Rob spewed a lot of bs and said come at 4p he then hung up the phone on me... ( I WAS FLOORED BECAUSE I AM A NEW CLIENT.) I then received a call from Amy the groomer, she spewed the same thing and said older dogs would be groomed first, or whoever complains the most would get their dog first! WELL MY POMERANIAN IS 12YEARS OLD, ACCORDING TO THEIR POLICY HE SHOULD'VE BEEN ONE OF THE FIRST TO BE GROOMED SO HE DOESN'T GET STRESSED! 7 HOURS IN A CAGE IN A STRANGE PLACE WOULD STRESS ANY DOG LET ALONE MY 12 YEAR OLD POM.. Rob wanted me to wait another hour which would've been 8 HOURS total. I figured out they never groomed him.. ( my dog can go get a procedure done at the vet faster then a grooming at this establishment ..) I TOLD AMY DON'T BOTHER , I'LL TAKE HIM ELSEWHERE.. I got in my car and I went right over there. I walked in the front door and I waited at the desk, I could hear Amy and Rob on the side where they do the grooming. I then heard my dog cry and yelp. They didn't know I was inside at the front desk waiting..The whole place is open style. I could see there were no other dogs in this place...all the cages were empty! When my dog cried I yelled out AMY I WANT MY DOG!! ( they were hurting him!) The owner Rob came out with my dog who wasn't groomed, he was suppose to be washed, shaved , lions mane, and nails clipped....What I thought was also very strange was every time I called which was 3x my calls were routed to their Dunellen store where I got the owner Rob . I explained to him I wanted to make sure that Amy cut the " dew claws" and shave the back end.. I thought it was strange that when I called I didn't get Amy herself. I kept getting the owner at a different location in Dunellen.. 15 minutes later I get a call from Amy on her cell phone explaining to me that she has no phone in the building. Again this is extremely strange! Every groomer I've ever been to has had a working phone to book appointments and to call clients when their dog/ dogs would be ready....I explained to her what I wanted because she said that the owner gave her a totally different message and Amy thought I didn't want my dog groomed...this was early on.... I COULD'VE BEEN ANY CLEARER..what exactly I wanted done... At 2:30p I still didn't hear from Pup Purri Groomers. I decided to call again. I finally got a hold of the owner Rob because my call was routed there again and I explained it's 2:30p and my dog was supposed to be done between 12 - 1pm as promised..I also told the owner that I was the first one there to drop off my dog. "He said oh we don't go by that, just because you're the first one to arrive doesn't mean your dog is going to get groomed first.. All the dogs go into a kennel and sit there until they decide which dog their going to groom and when" Their policy is they decide when and who they groom.. Amy said" if a client complains or bitches they will try and push that dog first. My neighbor who used them also said it took over 5 hours to groom his Pomeranian and when he picked up his dog there were no other dogs . FYI SINCE BRINGING MY DOG HERE HE NOW LIMPS WITH HIS RIGHT PAW! I learned a good lesson if it walks like a duck , sounds like a duck , it's a duck! BEWARE OF THIS GROOMER!!! They deserve 0 stars if I could give it!! Interesting how the only other person to review this place has no reviews, 0 friends, and no pictures!

They offer boarding, day care, and grooming, but their grooming services are the real star. I've never walked into a place so impeccably clean--every surface gleams, every tool is spotless, and it immediately puts my mind at ease. I always insist on having my pups groomed by Matt. Watching him work is like witnessing a true artist in action. He'll take a scruffy, stinky little ball of fur and turn it into a show-quality French Poodle cut--seriously, you'd think he was prepping them for a national competition. In just three hours, he calms my two Miniature Schnauzers (who absolutely hate getting groomed), manages their anxiety, and somehow coaxes them into perfect cooperation. When I pick them up, they're perfectly sanitized and coiffed down to every whisker. It's clear that Dog Days Daycare holds itself to the highest standards of cleanliness and care--no stray hairs, no overlooked nicks, just two happy, fresh-smelling pups ready to strut their stuff. That consistency makes it easy to trust them completely. Robin, the owner, is just as wonderful. She's always friendly on the phone, transparent about pricing, and genuinely cares about each dog that comes through the door. Between Robin's warmth and Matt's undeniable talent, I always feel like my babies are in the best hands. The transformation is nothing short of miraculous. My Miniature Schnauzers emerge spicy, sassy, and so proud of their fresh looks that they practically prance their way home. They might dread the grooming appointment, but they live for the attention they get afterward--strutting the neighborhood and charming every passerby. I'll never take my pups anywhere else. If you live in Hillsborough Township and want top-notch grooming (or even boarding and day care), do yourself a favor and book with Dog Days Daycare. Your dog will thank you.

First of all, they wouldn't even let me go in with her -- which was horrifying. My little girl has been by my side for 14 years; she's never been without me. To imagine her scared, not feeling well, and taken away from me like that just broke my heart. After giving her the medication she needed, they sat us down and presented an outrageous estimate -- over $10,000 just to keep her alive. Before we even went, I had spoken with my regular vet. He told me exactly what to ask for and what my dog needed. He also specifically advised me never to leave any of my dogs overnight at a hospital unless it was absolutely crucial. I trusted his judgment -- and I knew in my heart my girl would be okay with the right care. But the emergency clinic tried to guilt and scare us, saying that if we didn't leave her there, she would die. Shame on them. It's devastating to see what so many of these vet hospitals are becoming -- businesses more focused on money than compassion. They take advantage of pet owners when we're at our most vulnerable, knowing how deeply we love our animals, and then pressure us into debt with fear tactics. It's disgusting and heartbreaking to see. Our pets deserve genuine care -- not manipulation. And pet owners deserve honesty and compassion, not financial exploitation in our moments of panic and pain.

Keep your dogs far far away from Lisa." I hesitate writing this review because the owners, Monica and Arjun, are EXTREMELY nice and run a well kept and absolutely adorable shop filled with amazing treats, toys, and food options/toppers for dogs. The Modern Canine is conveniently located in a strip mall on 206 with plenty of parking, and they give free puppacinos to dogs who visit. Unfortunately, my review is as low as it is because I had a TERRIBLE experience with their groomer Lisa. Despite the multiple recommendations I received in a local neighborhood Facebook page for a reputable groomer, Lisa did the worst grooming job I've ever seen (I had a cockapoo for 16 years prior to the puppy I have now). Worst of all, I trusted this groomer enough to do my dog's haircut 2 weeks before our wedding. I paid $80 for a full body haircut, bath, brush/blowout, ear cleaning, and nail trim. My fiance was the one taking our dog to/from the groomer, so I reached out on Instagram a week before the appointment with "inspiration/inspo pictures" for the haircut so they'd know exactly how to groom him and my fiance wouldn't have to worry about explaining it to them since he would be rushing during his lunch break to take our dog to this appointment. They said they'd add the pictures to his file but when the day of his appointment came around, they called me while I was working to ask if I had pictures even though I already sent them and they said they'd add the pictures to his file a week beforehand. When my fiance picked him up, the hair on his face was much rounder than my inspo pictures. I asked the groomer to round it out a little more to match the picture and the outcome was a sloppy, choppy MESS. I requested a partial refund for the face trim and part of the tip to reflect the cheaper overall cost, which the owners graciously gave me. When I was home the next day, I noticed that even the body was cut sloppily. Lisa left long patches on his butt and paws and it looked like she just cut his hair with straight scissors instead of blending it out and making it more of a clean cut. I feel like I could have bought a dog grooming kit on Amazon and done a better job. I reached back out requesting a full refund of the tip which they willingly refunded. The owners handled the situation very professionally, and they were apologetic which I appreciate. That's why I still recommend The Modern Canine for the store itself and will continue to support it by buying toys and treats, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND HAVING YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE. Keep your dogs far far away from Lisa. I've since found an amazing and extremely talented groomer to fix the mess Lisa made. This other groomer also agreed that his face trim came out extremely choppy and sloppy. I'll post a review of the lifesaver groomer on my profile if you'd like to see the groomer I highly recommend instead.
