Visited for the first time today. Really did not realize that this place was there! So glad I found it! Friend had the tomato basil soup which is served daily. She loved it! She gave me a taste and it was delicious! She ordered the Greek salad and said it was ok but the honey mustard dressing was just ok. I ordered the three cheese grilled cheese which was amazing. So much cheese - great bread! Yummy! For a side I selected the basmati rice which was scrumptious! So flavorful! It comes with a red sauce on top if you wanted. I selected no sauce - I would go back just for the rice! Staff is awesome and place is clean. Vast menu with alot of great choices - many Greek choices as well as burgers salads and sandwiches. It is attached to the thirsty mule which is a bar so alcohol is also available. Prices are pretty standard although a French dip on the menu was $23 and a lamb chop was $30+. We've always had great portion sizes and flavors in the meals and drinks we've gotten at the Hungry Mule. The food has always come out pretty quickly--even when they've been a bit busy at dinner times. We especially enjoy the cheese curds (especially during Happy Hour when they are half price), and the burgers are huge, so come with an appetite. It's always pretty quiet and chill in the restaurant half; the bar area can sometimes get a little louder as folks get a little more carried away in their sports, their conversations, or their libations, but it's never been overly loud for extended periods. One thing that does seem a little strange is that a few months ago they opened up the wall and put in a window between the bar and restaurant. That's the most 'negative' thing I can say about this place, and even that isn't a deal breaker by any means. Today, out travels took us to Lake Zurich. We saw the reviews for The Hungry Mule and decided to give them a shot. The establishment has a nice outdoor area, an indoor area, and full service bar. Their menu has many options, such as tons of burgers, chicken wings, chicken sandwiches, and gyros. I went with the New Orleans chicken sandwich with no cheese, and Greek potatoes. Another person got the chicken parmason sandwich with Greek fries, and 2 others got the potatoes and 6 wings... One with kc hot sauce and the other was Lemon pepper. First... The good part of meal. The WIngs were nicely cooked. Crispy on the outside and tender in the inside... But slightly chewy in some cases. The potatoes were awesome. They have a Mediterranean flavor and we're very tender! Absolutely delicious. That's where the good ends unfortunately. My chi Ken sandwich lacked flavor if it wasn't for the Chipotle sauce. The chicken was extremely overcooked and hard as a rock. I felt like you needed a chainsaw or the Jaws of a pit bull to bit into it. The WIngs KC hot sauce was hot but all 4 of thought the same thing.... Absolutely no flavor. The chicken parmasan was OK but def not worth $13 plus quality. Overall, we were very disappointed in the food, taste and quality of the cooking. It would have been 3 stars if the price for 4 lunches was arou d $40. 4 lunches of this quality in no way shape or form is worth $75! Absolutely insane on the pricing. We stopped in for the first time while out running errands. Happened to stumble upon this place online and thought we'd give it a shot. We were so glad we did! Inside, the restaurant has a very fun/casual feel and counter ordering. They give you a # and bring the food to the table. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by each employee and ensured we would be helped momentarily. Loved this. They honored that and came to the counter quickly when someone was finished with their task and ready. The food itself was choice. We got the highway burger and the caprese sandwich. Both excellent and well-portioned. My only comment would be that I would have liked a bit more sauce on the burger but that's solely out of personal preference. The sauce that was there had great flavor and enough to stand out. While we were extremely happy with the service, food and cost of our lunch, something in particular inspired me to write this review... While grabbing a to-go container from the front counter, I noticed a woman waiting for her carry out order. As I walked away, I heard the gentleman at the counter offer the woman a complimentary drink while she waited. That bit of kindness/consideration means a lot, especially in today's world where these moments are a rarity. Sincerely impressed with this find. Good local spot in Lake Zurich, its a bar connected to a counter service restaurant. Its bright and roomy inside. I like the restaurant is separate from the bar area, especially if there are kids with us. All the food was pretty tasty, fries were especially tasty. I got the BLT and sweet potato fries, kids had the grilled cheese, husband had the cowboy burger and we also had onion rings and basil soup. I'm glad we finally checked this place out. It's located within a strip mall and from the outside and recently expanded by adding a lounge/bar area. The dining side and bar/lounge is separated by a wall, which you can walk from one side to the other from the inside. The bar/lounge also has its own separate gaming room. There is plenty of seating options from low table tops, high tops and window seating. It is casual dining where you would place your order at the counter, receive a number card to place on your table and they'll bring the food to you. I couldn't tell if you had to cleanup after yourself or they would clean up for you. On their garbage can, there is a sign that reminds their guests to not throw out the trays, so I would assume cleanup after you enjoyed your meal. The staff is very nice, knowledgeable, helpful when placing your order. I would recommend requesting menu and review at your table before ordering. This helps keep the line moving, because they cool everything to order. So how was the food? Everything was awesome! When they say they cook everything to order, they really meant it. The batter for the onion rings was a light batter and we really enjoyed it. The burger was cooked perfectly. Our kids really enjoyed their meals. Their toasted ravioli were huge and awesome. Our son cleaned the entire plate and devoured a quarter of the Cowboy Burger. The inside had two sides: one thats a smaller bar scene that leads into a slot area while the other side is more casual dining seats. We sat at the bar to watch the football games playing. Our server handed us menus and asked what we wanted to drink. We stated just water which he jokingly teased us about on top of another inappropriate comment later. We ordered our meals: classic angus burger and ABLT. My BLT had quite a bit of lettuce and bacon that had both a lot of fat, and was cold (I had specifically asked for well done bacon). I have written a few reviews on Hungry Mule and all of them have been 5 stars. Hungry Mule has not only the Best Burger in town, but their calamari is to die for, fresh and lightly battered! We also love their cheese curds. We have tried them all and Hungry Mule's are the best , Hands Down! Best of all they have a Happy Hour Monday through Friday 3-6 and the cheese curds and the calamari are on the menu at a much reduced price...delicious! Also, if you have not tried their Greek Roasted Chicken, it is incredible. The owner George and his staff are hospitable and friendly . Don't think of Hungry Mule as just a Burger joint. Stopped in last month while we were in the Lake Zurich area. Walk up counter service and they bring it out to your table. No wait staff on our visit. Lots of televisions. Wide open dining area with plenty of high tops. Lots of choices on the menu and one of this days specials was a French dip which my wife ordered. I ordered the chicken tenders(6) and onion rings. Also a cup of soup. My wife said the French dip was very good. Tender beef and a tasty au jus for dipping. All of my food was just ...meh. 6 tenders for 12 bucks. They had no seasoning that I could taste. Rings were 9 bucks and not many of them. 55 bucks for 2 for lunch. Way too expensive for mediocre food. Now, from ordering to-go, we knew that these were some of the best burgers around, so you really can't go wrong. We also had to order cheese curds, which were pretty standard. I would still get them again - I mean, how can you go wrong with deep fried cheese?? Our group ordered a couple of cocktails & beers, which were all good. Unfortunately it seemed like they were out of a few draft beers, but their list is pretty decent so finding a replacement wasn't tough. The staff are super nice and seemed like they wanted everyone around to have a great experience. With only two of them there & a packed room, that can be hard, but they were always nice & we never felt like too much time passed without them coming to check in on us. This is my second time coming. I had to think twice about going. It is 45 minutes away from me. Thing is the Saganaki sandwich is so good. It was a beautiful day for a drive down Rand. Ordered the Saganaki sandwich with tasty coleslaw. Well worth the trip. Reason for 4 rather than 5 stars? It seems to me that they now are using less cheese. We had not 1, not 2 but 3 staff members that were filling our drinks, asking us if we needed anything and so on. The hospitality at hungry mule is outstanding. We started with the buffalo wings with blue cheese. Delicious! My husband had the highway burger and I had the French dip. Both of our meals were very good. I didn't really scratch the surface with my Baha salad, though it was really, really good with a nice chipotle ranch dressing (the chicken was seasoned to perfection).
