My husband and I were visiting his dad in St Augustine and we decided to explore Down Town and we came across The Hyppo. It was pretty warm outside and so we needed a little pick me up, the team is super friendly and we learned about one of their flavors Datil pepper cheesecake, I've never heard about the Datil pepper but it's supposed to be a local pepper, my mother in law loves to make hot sauces with them. I ended up getting the strawberry lemonade and Bry got the espresso horchata, their flavors vary depending on season so you might be getting something different from ours. My strawberry lemonade was so refreshing, it was really hot at the time and definitely needed a cool down, Bry's was nice and creamy he loved it. The Hyppo is a perfect example of a business charging a premium for a superior product, that is absolutely worth every penny! I have no idea how much time or money they spend on research and development, but it is either substantial or their popsicle chefs are just insanely gifted at coming up with beautifully balanced and creative flavor combinations. Of course, not all of the flavor combinations are brilliant and inspired. Some are just classics. And I would like to point out one important thing in this review. The choices at The Hyppo are overwhelming. Full stop. There is almost no good way for a first timer to make a selection. Sure, there are a few free samples available to taste. But how on earth can anyone be expected to choose. What my group decided to do was to ask the clerk. My friend asked, "Which flavor is the most popular. " Without hesitation the young man said, Strawberry Lemonade. But I suggested to my friend that perhaps this wasn't the best question, so I followed up asking about what his personal favorites were, and that is how we found the Blackberry Goat Cheese. Great places will always have to have crowd favorites to satisfy the masses. However, The Hyppo clearly has a passion for more complexities than the general public might accept. As a fan of middle eastern inspired sweets, I was compelled to order the Pistachio Rosewater. It was fantastic! As was the Blackberry Goat Cheese. I'm sure the Strawberry Lemonade was also delicious. Still, when you are paying a pretty penny for a popsicle, it's prudent to procure a phenomenal one. Go for the gusto. Get out of your comfort zone. Try something new with an open mind, and be rewarded. The Hyppo knows what they are doing, and I look forward to many returns to try my way through more of their popsicle palette. read more

A really expensive place to get a really good popsicle. They have easily 25+ flavors and there's something for everyone. But you're gonna pay like eight bucks for a popsicle. Order: Honestly, whatever strikes your fancy. I would recommend a cream-based popsicle, maybe one of the cheesecake ones. About: $8 So here's the thing about The Hyppo pops, they are absurdly expensive. Like eight dollars for a popsicle is crazy. But equally crazy is that they're honestly worth it. It's totally a splurge purchase but once you find a few of them that you like I promise you will find yourself willing to pay $7-$8 for a popsicle. All the popsicles are premade and while they don't rotate all the flavors, they do have a rotating selection and normally they're stocked with 25+ flavors. In my opinion, the best ones are the cream-based popsicles as they're less icy and almost halfway to an ice cream bar. They will also dip them in chocolate for an additional price and while my wife loves to do this, I think the quality of the chocolate is far below the quality of the popsicle and so I often don't do it. I really miss having a hippo pops in Jacksonville and we often make our way to this one whenever we're in Saint Augustine. It's a nice treat and while I love them I probably wouldn't be able to go every day. read more

I visited this Hyppo location for the first time after lunch and really enjoyed the experience. This location was larger than expected and had a very large selection of flavors to choose from. The sole employee was very nice and helpful and made for a comforting service experience. I chose a blackberry and goat cheese pop covered in chocolate and made a great choice. Honestly, I think I might've gone overboard by adding chocolate because it overpowered this particular pop, but it was downed quickly regardless. The pop is just so fresh and flavorful!! I came here after wandering through the oldest town in the nation. The hippo is very cute both inside and outside. There are quite a couple of seatings inside with a wide array of gourmet popsicles. Price ranges between $3-$6, and I had their pumpkin latte. The pumpkin was smooth not he outside, and inside the popsicle was the latte. It complemented so well with each other, and the flavor was very deep. I would love it if they have one in Oregon (my home state), so I can try the other flavors.
