The Ice Plan is a "Must Do/See" when going to St. Augustine. If you do a trolley tour, this is one of the stops to go through a tour of the distillery. There is an upstairs speak easy type of bar that servies all sorts of grandiose mixology cocktails and hte servers all are in speak easy attire. They only have appetizers until around 5pm when they serve a limited menu for dinner, but the food is ALWAYs amazing for both the happy hour appetizers and their dinner. I always recommend this place to friends when they are visiting St. Augggie, such a fun place with a historical vibe. read more

Two words ...Moscow Mule! Order it, sip it and soak in the unique environment that is the Ice Plant. It was definitely an experience. My waiter was friendly and extremely helpful when it came to ordering. I settled on the fish dip, blackened fish tacos and for dessert I had the creme brulee. Everything was absolutely delicious. I felt like I couldn't go wrong. The fish dip had the perfect amount of smoke flavor. The tacos were tasty and the fish was perfectly cooked. After all that...I sucked it up and found space for my dessert. Creamy, sweet and with cookies on the side, you can't go wrong with the creme brulee. I have to say, we were a little disappointment after a few people recommended this place. Our bloody Mary was from a premixed Batch and not very big. From a place that advertises mixologists, that was pretty disappointing- and the mix was not even that great. The lunch menu is very small, not a lot of choices. We had the mushroom beignets, they were ok, but the aioli was pretty bland . 2 drinks and 1 appetizer was almost $50, way too pricey for what it was. EVERY time I visit St. Augustine, my wife and I visit the Ice Plant. The first time we stopped in, we took the tour. We happened to get there at the right time and moved through the tour with ease and learned a fair amount. We enjoyed hearing about their process and their attention to detail. Knowing the background on the spirits must have had an effect on how I experienced the drinks I had, almost as if it made them taste better or at the very least, made me appreciate it more. Either way, the Florida Mule is ADDICTING. That drink is perfection and is THE summer cocktail. Definitely get it when you visit, even if it's not summer. The bar is located upstairs and has a nice ambiance. I've only eaten off of their lunch menu twice but everything I tried was tasty. I will definitely be back. Because the combination of food and ambiance should equal 10 stars. --- --- --- This was our grand finale after touring the St. Augustine Distillery, and as amazing as the distillery tour was, we really saved the best for last here. You know how new restaurants use all of the same stylings to give off that old-school feel? Wood, exposed metal, dim edison bulbs, etc? Well this place looks like it's *actually* old-school, and not simply trying to look that way. We came in a group of 4, and in true Yelp fashion, we shared everything, and everything was glorious. The Blue crab beignets, truffle fries and creme brulee were all murderously delicious. For my entree, I ordered the shrimp and grits, and it followed in line with everything else. The cocktails? Surprise, surprise - they were wonderful. The service? Perfect-o! After reading so many enthusiastic reviews about The Ice Plant, I couldn't wait to enjoy an artisan cocktail with their famed hand chipped ice! What's the big deal about ICE you say? As described from the book 'In the Land of Cocktails,' "Ice used in a cocktail is all-important. Ice chipped with an ice pick from a block crackles in a drink and takes longer to melt, which is ideal for most drinks." I ordered the Lolita (Vodka, St. Germain, Grapefruit, Peychaud's Bitters and Lemon) at the bar and was impressed with the incredible speed my cocktail was prepared! I loved watching the Bartender twist the lemon peel over the top of the drink to release the citric oils as well as rubbing the rim of the glass with the peel. The term "Pretty in Pink" came to mind as I viewed the flamingo cocktail sitting primly in its frosted coupe glass with its floating canary peel. The cocktail was doubly impacting in both taste and fragrance.The sweet tartness of the grapefruit landed on my tongue right as the aroma of the lemon wafted up to my nose! I finally felt like I was in New Orleans again! The belle of the ball, however, was the Spiked Apple Cider. It came in a small frosted glass bottle. To call this drink "full bodied" would be a GREAT understatement. Every sip coated your entire mouth and tongue with a spicy KICK and a lavish aftertaste! It was simply unlike ANYTHING I've ever tasted. Its originality ALONE makes me praise The Ice Plant. When asked about the drink the Bar Tenders took the time to share the intricate process (Freshly pressed Apples flavored with Nutmeg, Allspice, Cinnamon, Clove, Apple Brandy which was then carbonated.) The Bar Tenders beamed in pride over their work and we were impressed. My husband described it as, "A punch in the face!" We both loved it! Perhaps it's because I've been binge watching "The Roosevelts: an intimate history" by Ken Burns that had me jonesing to check out the Ice Plant for myself. Same era as FDR and Eleanor. I appreciated the retro industrial chic of the building. Liked that they left some heavy metal components of the plant in place (like the beams). Liked the old truck and the approach to the building itself. Hostess service was meh but Kevin, our server, was great. Friendly and attentive without being over eager and intrusive. Lunch fare was fresh and tasty. There was a nice twist to every dish that raised it from average good to memorable good. Grilled cheese was Brie with strawberry marmalade. My picky 13 year old swooned over it and he swoons for no one and nothing. The eldest actually slowed down to savor his bahn mi sandwich and I was pleasantly surprised with the lamb meatballs & Greek yogurt. The salad was interesting. It had lightly pickled ingredients and my teenager said it was the best salad he's ever had and he's not really a salad fan. I would've included photos but battery at 1%. The cocktail was expertly made with the proper balance of mix to liquor ratio. Kids and I loved the house made kettle chips. Not an extensive menu but what they had was done nicely. Overall, the Ice Plant was a cool way to spend MLK Day. If only it were closer, I'd come for the cocktails regularly. Since it's not, I'll have to content myself with the memory of a lovely meal in an Ice Plant and make future plans to go without kids. It's a great looking place with great looking drinks. For a one if a kind experience you must visit The Ice Plant! With an actual distillery on site and the most talented and knowledgeable bartenders nationwide it is quite possibly the best place to get a cocktail. All the drinks are hand crafted to be exquisite in looks as well as taste. You will be very pleased! The ice is frozen into huge blocks the old fashioned way and shaped, shaved and chipped into cold frothy masterpieces! From the Florida Mule to a snow cone inspired piná colada, every drink is sensational. My favorite standby is the Bourbon Old Fashioned. The food is delicious from small plates like the smoked fish dip, roasted beet salad, mussels smothered in peppers and local greens with a broth so good you have to get some crusty bread for dipping! Then there are the entrees with the Whole Fish being my most recent favorite. Savory from first bite to last! Brunch here is an absolute delight as well. They serve the favorites such as French Toast and Eggs Benedict but they give everything a swift kick into original mode. The French toast comes with roasted pears, St Augustine Distillery Rum, sorghum syrup, whipped ricotta and hazelnuts. Sound good? It is! The eggs Benedict is on crispy local Fish Brandade with a tasty bernaise sauce and tomato with potato grilled sweet pepper hash as a side. It is large enough to share if you have a smaller appetite. It is savory, with just the perfect amount of crispness and flavor! The Ice Plant building is ancient and beautiful. The cold stone and spectacular high ceilings make for a unique and special atmosphere. It's like an old castle with lots of stories to tell. I am so sorry that I haven't reviewed this place sooner. Sometimes I go to places so often and love them so much I always just think I've already done it. It's stark, concrete, industrial vibe fits perfectly with the distillery and the waitstaff and the food/drinks. It's so trendy and the bar is extremely well done. Everything is picturesque and it makes you feel happy just sitting down for dinner in such a well designed and executed space. The SERVICE is also top notch. Everyone is so professional but super friendly and helpful. They really hire exceptional people here! The FOOD & DRINKS are amazing! I've never had a meal I didn't like. I really like their fries, the pretzel bread appetizer with the sauces, the shrimp & grits, etc etc etc. And their old fashioned is one of my favorite in the state! Because they do all their own spirits the drinks really are incredible.. I would drive all the way here from Orlando just to have a couple of drinks. It gets really busy at the usual times, and in fact we weren't able to find a place to sit on a Saturday evening (despite trying twice at different times), so we didn't stay. We did luck out with two seats at the bar on Friday though, and we fell in love with this place. It has a great, open industrial feel to it with two bars dead center reminiscent of a 1930's saloon, with marble bar tops and giant circular mirrors behind the bar. The bartenders are friendly and can mix a mean cocktail. The happy hour drink selection is pretty good (and includes a Bee's Knees, one of my favorite drinks). Far better than the selection is the pricing though, with these cocktails running $6 during happy hour. The oyster and carpaccio appetizer is delicious; I only wish there was a bit more to it. I can guarantee we'll be back here each and every time we visit St. Augustine from now on, it's our new favorite bar in town... when we can find a seat. read more

On a vacation trip to St. Augustine, Mark A. was able to find this gem on Yelp, of course! We didn't have reservations, so we had to wait at the bar. My favorite thing to do at cocktail bars like this is "test" the bartenders. I gave my usual flavor profile request of fruity and sweet, no mint. I ended up with a great, citrusy drink! Bartender passed! Since we were so entertained just gawking around at how cool the place looked, our wait was shorter than expected. We were seated and began drooling over the menu. Our final decisions were the duck confit and the burger. Both were amazing! The duck was fall-off-the-bone tender and so flavorful, with the cranberry sauce being the cherry on top. We both loved the bacon chive aioli that was on the burger. I don't think I can say which of the two I liked more! With the entrees being so good, we HAD to try a dessert. Not to much surprise, the chocolate creme brulee was just as delicious. So decadent and rich. LOVE. Mark A. loves it more than I do, probably for one reason: their whiskey selection. As we were waiting for the distillery tour, we decided to head upstairs to The Ice Plant for a drink. It happened to be happy-hour which got us a delicious cocktail at a great price. The drinks were a great balance of flavors and not overly sweet. We, unfortunately, didn't get a chance to eat, but the menu and food coming out of the kitchen all looked amazing and I will definitely have to come back later for a bite. The decor is very cool and they preserved a lot of the historical elements of the old ice plant. The staff is all super friendly and they all know their way around the bar. read more

If you have not visited The Ice Plant -- GO NOW!!! You really do need to visit this place before the word gets out and it becomes impossible to get into -- seriously... it's that good. Just about everything... from the ice, to the soda, to the ketchup, to the bread... is all hand made on location. The chef has some exceptional talent and insight into creative flavors -- something that you could only pull off if you're the head chef. What you might think of as risky turns out to be a marriage of flavors that work so well you'll be begging for more. It's not an inexpensive place, and if you're in a rush just stay in your car and hit some place with a drive-thru. This place has great atmosphere, excellent design, friendly staff, and wonderful drinks and the best food I've had in a long time. If, however, you are out for a FULL evening of drinks, conversation, and dinner -- you'll walk away happy. If you're expecting rush service -- look elsewhere. The staff is not going to rush the food and compromise the taste (keep in mind -- just about everything is hand-made... so it's not going to be as fast as some places that pull bread rolls out of a bag)... and the staff is not going to try to rush you out the door (like some restaurants do in order to turn over more tables). All six of us had something different and all six of us could not stop talking about how outstanding everything was -- from the drinks to to desserts. I loved my first visit to the Ice Plant. Although the place was packed the service was great. I started my gastronomic adventure with one of their specialty drinks, the Sin City, which had datil pepper as one of the ingrediants. It was perfect. For my main course I had the Ice Plant Burger with cheese and hand cut fries. Not only was the presentation beautiful, but the burger was juicy and tasty. The fries were also a hit. The only negative comment I have are related to the parking. Because they also have a touring facility, the parking lot was full when we got there and I had to circle three times before deciding to park elsewhere. We were looking for a good restaurant, not feeling optimistic. Then we found Ice plant, my Dad has a knack for finding good restaurants and oh boy, he was right! I started off with the Joe and Mary drink with vodka and fruits like oranges and strawberries from their distillery in the back of the restaurant. It was a little strong but it was sweet. For the main dish, I had the fresh dip gnocchi. The sauce was good, the gnocchi was good. Everything was good. I tried the chicken too, yes that was also good. The saying is that when people up north move to Florida, they bring the worst part of the north with them. Well in St. Augustine, they brought the best parts of New York with them. Went for brunch and dinner and my only complaint is they get too busy during dinner! We tried a number of their cocktails. I love how they break down the ice and glass options on the first page of their drink menu. The Ice Plant was originally a legit ice plant when the building was first constructed and the bartenders were happy to explain how the ice was formed and broken down. Huge beautiful space, tall ceilings, authentic industrial space with some slight modern touches. Located right next to the distillery, which I didn't get to check out. We popped in for some evening cocktails and ambiance and we got it. Brian our Bartender was awesome. Super cool and charming. The Lolita cocktail was PERFECT - I could drink that all night. Staff would walk by and greet us and one even chatted us up for a while. They were all dressed in 1920s style clothing was which I found pretty cool. Great service all around. This place is great for a group of friends chilling and having drinks. I could def see this as an event space as well. Didn't get to try the food but all the plates looked and smelled delicious.
