The Igloo is a so-so neighborhood frozen yogurt shop. It has some local charm for being right near the little plaza. The frozen yogurt itself was just ok. The Igloo has become my favorite dessert spot in the city after just one visit. The Igloo is located on Grays Ferry, settled inside a small strip mall and nestled between a bar and antique shop. The inside of The Igloo is awesome, it is constructed to look like its namesake; an igloo. In the center of the igloo there are high top tables and seating. To the left you'll find the cups, the right the toppings and register, and in front the frozen yogurt! I tried the strawberry and dark chocolate. I would skip the strawberry next time and go full dark chocolate, it was delicious and so dark it was almost black! If the weather is nice, there is also an awesome seating area right outside the shop. This area has tables with chairs and lounge chairs around a water fountain. Super cool vibes. One of the bike rental stands is also right by the seating area- making it even easier to get to and from The Igloo. In addition to the great ice cream and seating options The Igloo has a few unique things, first they offer a pup cup. For $0.50 they'll provide your pup with their own special treat. And second, they have movie nights outside- What's better then watching a movie outside with some ice cream? With everything being so cool (pun intended), why not 5 stars? The toppings. It is a ritual that we come here when we're walking home from Markward playground. Such a great addition to our neghborhood. The staff is super friendly and always so cheerful every time we step foot through the door. They have so many great flavors including Greek yogurt (my fav), peanut butter, cookie and cream...just to name a few. There are also a nice topping selection...which my 7 yr old love to pile up on. There's also few huge flat screen TV's where they play all the latest kids movies at designated times. Love that! The outdoor seating is pretty awesome with bright tables/chairs and beautiful flowers....you almost forget you're in the middle of the street! I've been eyeing this place ever since I moved to Philadelphia since it's right by this cute little square with ample seating and string lights. However I have to say that I was disappointed by the frozen yogurt. Maybe I'm just not yet fully adjusted to the way things are priced around here, but I came here from Atlanta (another city with semi-comparable prices on food), where I was used to paying $5 max for a bowl of froyo (any type) with unlimited toppings ranging from fresh mango/blueberry to mochi to cereal or chocolate bits. Here, though, I paid $7 for the same amount of froyo with only 2 toppings...and their selection of toppings is very limited (mostly just chocolate candy related items which isn't really my jam). The taste of it was also not memorable at all. I'm hoping it was a one off and that maybe I got the wrong flavor, but even so I can't really reconcile paying the price for what I'm getting. First time there and loved the yogorino. But the reason we loved this place was the service there. I asked about peanuts since my daughter is severely allergic and they were so so helpful. They explained what we needed to avoid and I LOVED how all their peanut and nut toppings were all placed on a different side (to avoid contamination). They were so attentive, it was wonderful... esp since my kid is so limited in what/where she can eat. We stopped in for a snack while in Philly for the weekend, and wow were there a ton of options. We were actually overwhelmed at first and needed about 5 minutes to fully appreciate everything they have on offer. We eventually decided on an ice cream sandwich with peanut butter cookies and peanut butter frozen yogurt. It was AMAZING. The peanut butter cookies were some of the best I've ever had--buttery and crispy throughout. The frozen yogurt tasted exactly like ice cream, and didn't have any weird tanginess that peanut butter froyo sometimes suffers from. My husband and I were splitting it but found ourselves fighting over every bite, it was that good. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and patient with us despite our indecision, and even when the place was swarmed with kids later, the service never suffered. We loved our ice cream sandwich so much that we tried to make it back the next day before our flight, and my husband was brokenhearted when we ran out of time. This place exceeded our expectations, it's a lovely family owned business with amazing customer service. The owner made us feel more than welcome and helped us through each step of ordering. She was very nice and even told us the creative process behind some of the menu items. On our first taste we were both more than satisfied with the way the flavors of ice cream and sauce complimented one another. It did not take us long to finish these at all. The cookies and cream yogurt tasted exactly like ice cream and the caramel sauce meshed perfectly with the taste. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch ice cream was very rich and creamy and the marshmallow fluff sauce only elevated the taste. But the ice cream my family got and my froyo melted within 10 minutes, making it difficult to slurp out of the one-size-fits-all containers. It melted faster than water ice, which is more ice than the vegan froyo. I was surprised and kind of disappointed. As far as froyo goes - this place is good. As a native Californian, where froyo was popular option in the summer for several years, I've had the chance to try multiple places across the country. I got a the classic vanilla yogurt topped with deliciousness like mochi, strawberries, and cookie dough bits. The yogurt was creamy, smooth, and sweet - which is perfect for the humid Philadelphia weather. The toppings really diversified the texture and made the whole concoction alluring. They even have a little street park outside, which makes it perfect for catching up with a friend. The downsides - is that they are pretty militant about letting you only try three flavors and the floor is notoriously sticky. The owner, who I've met multiple times, still stares blankly when I engage in conversation. He once told me to yelp about The Igloo if I want to see improvements or new flavors, so here I am. Tonight's customer service was as cold as the interior of an actual igloo. The owner, who was distracted, beleaguered and disinterested checked us out. My boyfriend handed him 11 dollars, and was shortchanged by a dollar. When he asserted that he was a dollar short, the owner did not give him the benefit of the doubt, the owner quibbled over it and lost a customer. When asked about the different toppings, he could barely answer. When I asked if there were any new loyalty cards since mine ran out, he smirked and sarcastically said that I could save the receipt if I really wanted to get my credit. The other employees are quite cheery and helpful... I just wish their boss would lighten up and maybe learn something from the people he hired. In terms of constructive criticism: The froyo is delicious... I wish they had cake batter flavor. I'm in the neighborhood and was really excited to hear that some dessert options were coming to the area. I tried the Igloo for the first time during the first week they opened and I was not impressed. The staff was not too knowledgeable about the froyo and they didn't have as extensive of a topping selection as some of the other froyo places in Center City. But I figured that was the first week and I'd give it another try so I went back last week. The service was better and the girl was really friendly and helped answer some of my questions. However, the froyo wasn't much better. My husband had the greek yogurt which was okay and I had the chocolate sorbet and it was not good at all. From what I hear from my neighbors, they feel like most of the flavors are pretty bland here. I'd say this place is a notch below the better froyo places in center city like Yogorino and Sweet Ending, so I'd rather walk a little bit further to get better stuff. I'm also not a big fan of paying by weight. I don't like not knowing what I'm going to end up paying for something. The staff has to get the samples for you, which I don't love having to ask, but they are great about letting you try as many as you want. I am suspicious of places where I have to weigh my food. I always think the scale is rigged and my dollars are being snatched from my pocket. But I love yogurt , so I go to these places. I am also incredibly cheap, I count to three Mississippi with two flavors and get one dusting of a lighter topping. That's it. This stingy amount usually brings me up to about $5 to $7 at most places. At igloo my cheapo method brings me down to $3.75. Yippee! Now does this low low price make me go nuts for more toppings ( perhaps strawberries or, dream of dreams, mango chunks?). No, because the yogurt is not good. The gelato is bland. And while I wonder at how Igloo has managed to invent different colors of air-flavored yogurt, the decor makes me feel like I am in a theme park version of a space shuttle. Cheap, yes. Still excellent! They started the serve yourself option again. You grab a cup, and put your own soft serve in, then they'll add the toppings and you pay by weight. I've also been trying their hard serve ice cream. They've had 4 flavors recently from a local small batch maker I believe. I've been getting the strawberry. My mom got the honey comb in a pretzel cone. Holy smokes was that good. Last Friday they had a movie night and were playing a Pixar (can't remember) movie outside. The best self serve in the city! Truthfully the only one I've been to because nothing bad to say. I'm always partial to the super creamy vanilla custard, but there's a range of fro-yo flavors. Toppings include all the expected, from fresh fruit, to mochi, to candy pieces, and more. I've had the cookie ice cream sandwiches and churro cone. Neither was great, but I think it was later in the day so not so fresh. I stick with the cup. With quite a healthy serving of custard/ frozen yogurt and toppings, we usually end up spending up to $14 for two. We could easily be more conscious of serving size (those huge cups get ya!) but honestly, zero regrets! Love that they have pup cups for purchase (doggie ice cream) and they're open year round AND pretty late (til 11pm during the week). The triangle area outside has plenty of seating. read more

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Igloo. I enjoy their seasonal flavors, like pumpkin, which actually tastes like a pumpkin cookie. However, something needs to be done about the serve yourself topping bar. I always thought it was rather unsanitary looking, all of those toppings just out in the open, but a recent visit really made me think twice before loading up my yogurt with oreos. Kids. Parents love taking their kids out for ice cream, especially on the weekends. I get it - kids love ice cream! However, kids also love toppings that are easily accessible. And when parents aren't looking, kids like to be sneaky and stick their hands all up in those toppings. Then they stick those toppings in their mouth. And the process repeats. Honestly, these are some pretty smart kids. They see candy, they wait until mom/dad is not looking and they take candy. Igloo = free candy!!! What kid wouldn't want to go there? Reminds me of a Yogurtland, but a little less fresh. It's self-serve, including your toppings. Toppings are mostly limited to candies, and not fresh fruit. This place is hit or miss, and lately it's been all miss. Past month has been poor experience after poor experience. From ordering their Acai Bowl and receiving half blended bowl with chunks of frozen ice and clumpy fruit, to ordering their Greek Yogurt Parfait and getting fruit added that's not even on their menu. I've also randomly received some slimy caramel sauce I never requested but was added to my frozen yogurt and ruined it. The workers can't appear to follow the amount advertised on their menu since several times I've ordered a large which is advertised as 12 oz. and received not even halfway full of a 16 oz. cup. read more

In the three months that I've been in the city, I've been to this lovely froyo place at least five times. This is a perfect spot between my house and the Wissahickon Dog Park! Since I tie my dog's leash outside while I'm getting ice cream inside, short wait times to check out are important, and thankfully I've never waited more than half a minute to pay. The Igloo is a solid froyo place! It's self-serve, but beware: the machine pumps out froyo insanely fast. I pulled the lever down and one second later, my cup was already half full. I tried the Greek yogurt and the raspberry pomegranate, and they were both delicious. The Greek yogurt is their "must-try," and it's much creamier and richer than your average froyo. The raspberry pomegranate is more refreshing and something I'd go for on a hot day. They also list suggested toppings on each of their flavor signs, which is great if you're looking to try new things! read more

If you're thinking about ordering delivery through an app like uber eats or caviar you may want to think twice. Igloo is leaving their walk-up window open which is causing a backlog in the delivery requests. Basically people who are ignoring the quarantine will get their food before you do. Your food will be late and your driver will be left wondering whether that milkshake and cookie was really worth an hour of their time and no tip. And drivers.... when you get to the window to pick up your client's order, the cashier will probably just shrug their shoulders and say, "it's not ready yet, next!" without as much as an apology or a window as to when it might be. Treated my daughter and I after a few hours of playing in the park. Its a quaint establishment with blue and white themed walls. I didn't know what flavors to expect but decided on having lime, although Greek yogurt was delicious too. I believe there were only 8 flavors so i was slightly disappointed. My daughter chose cake batter with Reese's peanut butter and chocolate toppings. My topping were coconut, honey and almond pieces. Both desserts were tasty. The lime was deliciously light in flavor and blended well with the toppings. The price was based on weight and the orders totaled to a little over $7. Overall although the treats were good, I wasn't impressed at all. Need more selections for certain. read more
