Crystal Cove is the most beautiful inlet in all of Boston Harbor. From Crystal Cove you have an unobstructed view of the Boston skyline which is just gorgeous at night time. The water is usually calm and perfect for kayaking canoeing row boating or any other water activity. Crystal Cove also houses a small island called snake Island which you can row out to and picnic on. There is also a public ramp for five dollars you can lower a boat in or out of Crystal Cove pretty reasonable seeing that it was $5.25 years ago. Crystal cove also houses the Winthrop yacht club and a couple other marinas. There's also a ferry that goes from Crystal Cove to downtown Boston primarily used as a commuter boat. If you have an opportunity to go to any activity in, on or surrounding Crystal Cove I suggest you check it out it's absolutely beautiful. I give Crystal Cove a solid 5 Stars read more

Pros: reasonable rates, proximity to Logan, nice views of the water, well maintained, nicely decorated both inside and out. Cons: small room, NYC sized bathroom, aircraft noise from Logan, front desk not 24 hours. I would book this hotel again, either for wanting to be close to the airport or for a vacation. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, and there's a bus stop nearby that will get you to the T. On my visit they weren't busy so I didn't have trouble parking, but I can see why some other people had parking issues. The lot is small and a tight fit. That's common to New England in general; The fact that the hotel has any parking and doesn't charge extra for it is a plus. The front desk is closed from 11 pm to 9 am. You pay in advance and drop your key in a box if you leave before they open. There is a number to call for help after hours. You will climb a lot of stairs at this hotel. If there are elevators I did not see them. I wouldn't want to come here with a big heavy suitcase. But the place feels like it's in a small town, you're right on the water, it's impeccably clean, and you're still close to the city. Check the place out. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here over Boston Marathon weekend. All hotels in the city were $500+ per night. We found this gem at around $200 a night. The place is very clean. The property and rooms are overall clean. The rooms are tiny and walls are paper thin. Front office staff could use an attitude adjustment but it could also just be an East Coast abrasiveness. This hotel is located a short distance from the airport but 8-10 miles from the city making it approx a $15 uber ride each way. There is a bus across the street that takes you to the train station for easy access to the city via train. read more

My husband and I stayed here on December 13, 2017. We arrived to a FREEZING COLD room. The thermostat read 42 degrees. Yes, that's right, 42 degrees. After requesting help from the front desk, someone came in to "fix" the problem. However, it was not fixed. The room stayed freezing cold the entire night. We were refused another room to stay in. This inn was so cute and comfy. We went up from Connecticut for my birthday in July and stayed in their standard room overlooking the harbor. Granted the room was tiny it serviced our needs and we couldn't have asked for more beautiful views. Being able to sit on our own balcony watching the sun set and the planes take off and land was prefect. The staff was accommodating and pleasant. I would recommend this inn to anyone wanting to be close to Boston but still have some peace and relaxation. I love this place. I only stayed one night, but I wish it could've been longer. I don't understand why people only give this place 4 stars..if you compare hotel prices in the Boston area with what the room rate is for THIS place, there's no contest. Most hotels in the city go for $250-400 a night. I got a deal on a room here for $109/night through Booking.com. And it's not that hard to get into the city from here! A cab costs about $6-9 to get to a blue line. Take the blue line right into the city. Easy peasy. My room was pristine and lovely. I had a balcony overlooking the water. The Inn boasts a beach on one side, just a block away, and the marina on the other. The neighborhood, full of cute little Cape Cod-style homes, is quiet and safe, with lots of neat, homey restaurants and diners just a few blocks walk away. Everyone here is super friendly. The people who work here are really nice. The only negative was that I couldn't check into my room early..I had to wait until the official check-in time because the maid had to clean 18 rooms. But hey, I have probably just been spoiled by the big chains who have tons of help and don't mind if you check in early. That downside was really nothing, given all the wonderful things about this place. They even have a swimming pool, although the weather was too cool to swim during my stay. I will definitely be back! The woman at the front desk told me the rates don't really change in the summer, which makes this place an even BETTER deal!!! read more

Cute little place. Kind of like a BnB without the other B. They have several places on their property; Big Larry stay in the "Annex". Nicely appointed room, albeit cozy. Large peeps might call it cramped. EASY taxi ride from Logan, but don't fall for the seven buck surcharge. This place is not on that route. Be vigilant, friends. Pretty much right on the water and a great view of downtown at night. Got the wonderful smell of the sea which Big Larry founds invigorating. They have a small lounge area with a kitchen so you can cook yourself if you are so inclined. Several "meeh" restaurants within walking distance, but if you need calories, you won't be wanting for sure. Blue line for going into town is not within walking distance, but they will call you a cab and the cabbies do not whine about the short fare so be sure to tip well if you are so inclined. There is also a bus, but Larry did not try that route. They have a few apartments, so Larry bees guessing if you have little ones, that'd be the place fo you. Oh, book on line. The office is paper based, and on line netted Big and his buddy a forty buck diminishment in da pricing. Really slow internet, which decreases the rating. If you need to work, find another place. No elevator, so if 'ya got bad hips, ask to stay close to the ground. Not the Taj Mahal by any means, but a solid place for a good night stay read more

We needed a quick room for one night in Boston...found this little gem in Winthrop, MA which was about 15 mins from Boston. The lady at the front desk was very nice and helpful. She gave us some info on restaurants that were close by. The room was charming and quaint. Very clean and provided everything you needed in the kitchen. ie utensils, pots, pans, plates, glasses. The hotel itself looks like it was recently renovated. We got some use out of the pool during our stay too. We will definitely be back to stay for a little longer! read more

The only complaint that I have is that the air conditioning vent above my bed had a lot of mold growing on it. I had to move the bed so I didn't breathe spores in. The rest of the hotel is amazing! Great staff (housekeeping/front desk), beautiful furnished areas, small kitchen in the room. Would come again! $30 Uber ride into Boston and another $30 back. It's not bad if you have multiple riders but it can get expensive. Ferry is close by about $8 didn't ride due to missing the times. The cafe hi-tide in town had great omelets and stuffed strawberry french toast, but they rush you and they are Boston friendly. Belle island seafood had nice food but it's the wonderful/friendly staff that make it worth the visit! The wifi is not strong in the rooms and we had to use our data most of the time. Well the room looked recently updated..but a number of things were annoying. Had a room with 2 queen beds that were actually full beds. One of them was against the wall so useless for 2 people. Bathroom floors were not clean. Or the carpet wasn't because everyone got black feet walking in our bare feet. Shared kitchen and sitting area..needs an update. To top it off you could not control the temp of your own room. Nice for a couple for a day or two...not so much for a family... We stayed in the original main building. read more

I have stayed at the Inn at Crystal Cove twice with my partner, and we love it there. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Boston area, as the subway is a quick cab ride away, and we never had trouble getting around. (Shout out to Patrick a.k.a. Kayla the best cab driver in Winthrop). Rooms are modestly sized, and the price can't be beat for a place to stay in Boston. If you plan to drive into the city, traffic can be a pain getting there and back, but it's not horrible. The staff was very kind and welcoming, and took customer services very seriously. Also, when we stayed last (most recent was May 2014) they had just finished renovations to the building, adding a very cute living room area in the lobby of the main building. The hotel offers a full kitchen if you chose to cook for yourself, or if you just feel like a cup of tea in the middle of the night. The area was always very clean (unsure if a product of the staff or if other guests were diligent about cleaning up their messes) which was a big plus for me. Bottom line, I love this hotel, and would recommend it to any friends if they plan to stay in the Boston area. read more

This place was absolutely amazing. Seriously!!!! We looked and looked and looked for an affordable place for me and my family to stay and not break the bank. I did want a place that provided breakfast or one that had a kitchen. The Inn had a kitchen and it was fully stocked with all utensils. I made breakfast for my family every morning and then any leftovers were just saved in the community fridge. We out our room number on our food and it was left alone. The public transportation was easy enough and the train was just a few stops away, after a brief bus ride. We didn't ride the ferry but it was very close too. There were lots of choices for dinning out and even amazing seafood fresh from the water; Belle Isle seafood. All in all the town of Winthrop was an amazing local town and so friendly. Should we ever get back to Boston we will definitely stay at this Inn again!! read more

The price is right, pretty harbor view, nice accommodations with balcony. Bed linens a bit scratchy, bed so so, nicely updated bathroom. Nice pool and patio area. Not so great was the lack of light filtering curtains for all the parking lot lights and the 3rdfloor room skylights. Bring a slerlibg mask. Airport noise stops around 10 pm to 5 am. Not bad. First, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had no major issues whatsoever. I would recommend it to others other than few minor points below: 1. Parking is very limited. On 2 of the 3 days I got back to hotel after 11 PM and luckily had a really small convertible that could barely fit in last spot and I crawled out through top. So if you have a car be cautious. 2. We had a great room with kitchen and view if the bay which was awesome. The bad part was the bathroom was way too small. NYC small. All in all great trip. read more

I feel like I found this place by accident, but boy do I consider myself lucky. I stayed here for three nights with my best friend, a newbie to the Boston area from out of town. Our room was on the third floor, and there is no elevator in the building please be aware of that. However our room was very comfortable, and quite adequately air-conditioned, the large kitchen was very spacious, and the bathroom is updated with beautiful fixtures. The view at night, was striking. Now this has no bearing on the inn itself, Winthrop is somewhat of a hidden gem as it is less than 10 minutes away from Logan, and less than 15 minutes away from downtown Boston, but there is not much to do within the local area in terms of nightlife. On our last morning there, we were able to walk five minutes away to a lovely diner called hi Tide. There were also two or three other restaurants on the same street which are also convenient. There was a bus, ferry, Uber and lyft available. A Lyft to downtown Boston cost about 20 bucks. We did also make use of the park-and-ride option and used public subway transportation. The facility was very clean, the pool was spotless. I will definitely be back. read more

I stayed here one night with my partner and loved the place! The room was small but super nice and clean. The harbor was across the street and the ocean was a 2 min walk away. There was a communal kitchen available to all guests so we were able to wake up and make a full breakfast for ourselves which was awesome because that's rare when you're traveling. What really made us fall in love with the place was the staff because they were super friendly and helpful and gave great recommendations on things to do in Boston as we are from the west coast and know nothing. Yelp isn't the best place for hotel reviews but I wanted to reach out to those who arrive in Boston with a car and want to avoid driving into town or paying high parking fees. We stayed at the "Inn at Crystal Cove" (600 Shirley St.) in Winthrop-by-the-Sea and paid $111 a night in mid-September including all taxes. It was perfect for our needs. The little town of Winthrop is actually quite charming, a seaside village really, set on a narrow spit of land separating the Atlantic from Boston Bay. Completely safe, cute, quiet, and a world away from the madness that is Boston. In fact, we drove around the area and thought to ourselves that if we had to live in Boston, this would be the place to get a house. The local food options aren't fancy, but they include the fabulous Belle Isle Seafood (an amazing lobster roll!) just as you cross the bridge into Winthrop proper as well as some locals' spots that are friendly and reasonably priced. The Inn is older, but it's set up perfectly for travelers. In fact, most of the people we ran into were savvy Europeans who seemed quite comfortable there (the inn must be listed in U.S. travel guides in a lot of languages). There is a large modern and well-equipped common kitchen for people to use (very European!) and the rooms, while decidedly not modern or large, are quite serviceable. The free Wi-Fi connection is strong and stable, which was critical for us. The view across the bay towards Boston is lovely, especially at sunset. There is a small pool (which we never tried) and the staff is professional and helpful. The Inn at Crystal Cove is perfect for someone with a car: It's 20 minutes from the airport (all on side roads), parking is free (though the lot is a little tight), and the T subway Blue Line at Orient Heights or Suffolk Downs stations is 10 minutes away. Two people could spend the day in Boston for a total of $15 (two $5 round trip tickets on the subway plus five bucks for parking at the T station). We did meet a couple from British Columbia who arrived from Logan via a taxi and planned to use the Inn to visit Boston without a car. Certainly doable...the Inn is walking distance from the Winthrop Ferry (which is a very cool way to make your way into Boston) and though the Ferry doesn't run at night, one could return via Blue Line to the Orient Heights station then catch the surprisingly frequent Winthrop bus that runs until midnight from the station all the way to the front of the inn. Would it be more convenient to stay in downtown Boston? Absolutely. But if you are looking for the next best thing in order to save hundreds of dollars, this comfortable little place in Winthrop will do the trick. Might as well sleep in a tent on the shore. No frig or coffee maker in the room. No thermostat. Room temp is controlled by front desk, who I don't think changed the temp when I asked. ** This is a REAL & HONEST review from a REAL guest ** Terrible, Awful, Miserable. I stayed here two nights because I was attending a wedding in the area. My stay was far from pleasant. Here's what you'll get for $220 a night: Very limited parking. No parking allowed on street. If you arrive late, you'll have to either block another car or park illegally or in the one handicapped spot inn provides. If cannot find parking you cannot cancel your reservation at this time, that is unless you are willing to forfeit a full one night deposit. (Please see what I've posted below from their site regarding cancellations. Heartless.) No staff on site after 10pm. Basketball court near site is filled with teens playing basketball until 3am. You will have no control over the temperature in room during your stay. I stayed in late August, with temperatures in the low 90's. My room was sweltering hot with no air. The room next door said their room was Arctic, they put on additional layers of clothes so they could sleep. No curtains to block sunlight in the morning, nor the bright lights on your balcony that stay on all night long. Housekeeping walks in without waiting for a response to one quick knock. Stay dressed at all times! Manager calls their Televisions fickle, meaning you may not be able to watch television unless the come into your room & show you the workaround steps to turn it on & change the channels. Again, no staff overnight, so if you can't figure it out, you'll need to wait until morning. Rooms are very tiny. Bedding is thin, cheap, scratchy & uncomfortable. The best part! Your room may be part of a shared kitchen/living room area. So, if the other guests are up & about at the crack of dawn, so are you! If other guests are up all night, so are you!! Walls are paper thin, you'll hear it all! Even from the room next door. I was lucky enough to have one of those rooms. After my stay I explained to management how unpleasant my experience was. They took 5 days to respond & told me in so many words that I was lying. They refused to return a cent to me. I suppose they forgot I called multiple times asking them to turn on the a/c. They feel even though I was up all night, I should have got up, got dressed so I could allow them into the room to teach me how to work their special television that requires two remote controls to work ("they know it's fickle"). They asked why didn't "I" hang a do not disturb sign on the door? Of course their maid can just walk in if she sees no sign! FYI - there was no sign. But, in her defense, perhaps she thought I was one of the many people sitting right outside the room talking & laughing all morning. Noise & bright light concerns were never addressed. Parking, nothing they can do about it. To summarize it was my problem & if they felt they had done something wrong they would have given me a partial refund. Wow. Also know: If you misplace one of your 1970's room keys, your card will be billed an additional $20. No breakfast is included. Limited outlets to plug devices into. Pool is very small & very crowded. There is no "harbor view" as implied by their website. Staff tries to make your room fancy by creating a "rose" atop of your toilet paper by using the toilet paper that's already on the roll. So much for sanitary! Area is a bit sketchy, another guest referred to the hotel & area as "an ashtray of a place". From their website: CANCELLATION POLICY: MORE THAN 14 days before arrival date will result in a refund of the deposit less 15% service charge. Cancellations WITHIN 14 days of the arrival date, regardless of reason, will result in a forfeiture of total deposit amount. There are no refunds due to medical or family emergencies, inclement weather, missed or cancelled flights, ferry reservations etc. This place is disgusting, and I'm not just talking about the rooms. They care about money & not their customers. Do yourself a favor & stay elsewhere. There are a ton of beautiful hotels just a few miles away. read more

Needed a room for the night before an early morning flight. So lucky to have found the Inn at Crystal Cove! Nice room, incredible view and pleasant common area with cooking facilities (which we didn't need but appreciated). The staff were very helpful in suggesting where to dine and taxi service. Close to airport but didn't hear planes. If you have a choice, try not to be in a room next to the stairway. Other travelers were very noisy coming in later in the evening. My boyfriend and I came to Boston a night early after a wedding in Cape Cod to catch an early Sunday morning flight. We wanted a more reasonably priced place to crash for the night and found a room here. It is about 15-20 minutes from the airport and a little less expensive, but boy was it worth what we paid. The room was very clean, maybe the cleanest room in which I have ever stayed (I am a huge clean freak) and looked recently updated. Mike at the front desk was very helpful and gave us some recommendations of things to do/see while in the area. The parking lots a little tight, but that is probably the only non-complimentary comment I could make. The view of the harbor outside is gorgeous! Stayed here 3 nights in October to do sightseeing in Boston. The Inn was one of the cheaper places we could find with easy access to Boston. The Inn does face the bay and within a couple blocks can walk by the ocean. There is a bus close by and easy to get to the Orient Heights T station-- so easy to get into Boston and the airport. Our 2 bed ( double and twin) room was on the 3rd floor-- no elevator. It was very small and the bathroom was the size of a closet-- had to sit sideways on the toilet to not have knees in the sink. Other rooms with one bed appeared to be much larger. One bed squeaked. Water pressure in the shower was very low. Thanks goodness we had 2 windows with our small corner room. There is a lovely common sitting room with wonderful view of the bay. There is a very nicely equipped full kitchen also for common use. No wi-fi on the 3rd floor, but available in the sitting room and kitchen. It was a good deal for us as we were out during the day and just needed a place to sleep. read more
