Location looks sketchy due to construction and access is rough if u miss your initial turn- LOL. Right next to COSTCO which is connected to by a thruway so you can turn in there to be sure not to miss it. Friendly welcome and easy check-in. Room was very clean, bed was comfortable. Had an issue with door, but maintenance addressed immediately. Pool was clean and always had towels. Breakfast was very good with all types of options, well-stocked. What a comfortable place to stay while visiting Massachusetts. We were greeted kindly by Danny upon arrival. He provided us with maps of the downtown Salem area for our trip Friday, gave great recommendations on places to eat, and overall was very pleasent to speak with. We secured room 423, and directions on the property to get there. Lots of parking. The room was on the second floor without an elevator so you needed to bring your luggage up a few lights of steps. The room was BIG. Offered a kitchenette, living room area, large king bed, vanity, shower and shampoo/conditioner/body wash. There were dishes to use and dishwasher with pod. We checked in and left as soon as we could secure another room nearby...so that's telling you something! We arrived and were directed to a suite directly at the back of the property which is adjacent to route 1. Now, you are so close it's like you're on the shoulder of the highway. There is no soundproofing of windows and no sound barriers to blunt the noise, which was deafening with folks racing and revving their engines nonstop. There were cigarette butts just outside our door, and the room smelled dank and smoky -- almost like there had been a flood at one time. Everything seemed to have a ding in it -- chipped furniture, stains on the couch, a cabinet hanging on its hinges. We could hear people above us clearly, and much too clearly at that! There was also a lack of security. There were sliding doors that were not initially locked and there was a flimsy bar to prevent the door from opening that looked like it would break pretty easily if forced. The lock on the front door was funky -- sometimes I couldn't lock/unlock it and the screws were loose at the bolt. Maybe the surrounding area once had some life to it, but we drove through some abandoned big box stores that had transients living in the parking lots, which didn't make us feel great. Because you're not in a hotel with a traditional front desk with security personnel, you are more vulnerable, so this was a serious consideration. We tried to call the front desk to ask if there was another room available, but the phone didn't work! We sat there for a minute looking the place over, listening to the whizzing of engines and considering all the faults of the room and decided to leave ASAP. I will say that once we drove back to the main building, the woman behind the front desk was very nice and didn't give us a hassle about leaving. This is the worst property we've stayed at while being Marriott Bonvoy members for 20 years. Not sure if just our room was the pits or they all are, but based on our experience, I would certainly AVOID this place if you want a decent night's sleep and a feeling of security. read more

We stayed one night at the Marriott Residence Inn North Shore Danvers for a wedding at Pierce Farm at Witch Hill. The location is convenient, right off Route 1 and next to Costco, which made it easy to find. The room was clean and the full kitchen was a nice feature, though we didn't use it. However, the overall quality of the room didn't quite live up to typical Marriott standards--it felt a bit dated and the bed could have been more comfortable. The property definitely seems like it's due for a refresh. One odd thing we noticed was that some people appear to be living at the hotel. For example, there was a woman outside with a clothesline, which gave off more of an extended-stay apartment vibe than a hotel. Not necessarily a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of if you're expecting a more traditional hotel experience. Overall, it served its purpose for a quick overnight stay, but I wouldn't choose it for a longer visit without some updates. read more

Surprisingly, this was not the best experience. We have stayed at many Residence Inn locations and this was a first. The workout room was small but fine. Similar to the other locations. And they offer a great continental breakfast each morning too. Our room was nice, but clearly needed some upgrading. The tub was chipped and peeling but sealed. However, the most upsetting experience was the housekeeping. We were told that our room would be cleaned every other day so expect Tuesday and Thursday. The rooms had magnets for the door that you place outside for either all set or come back later. We thought this was odd to have an all set as opposed to a do not disturb in terms of sleeping. So we had an all set on our door Monday night. When we got up Tuesday we took it done around 8am when we left for the day. We returned around 4p assuming our room would be cleaned. Nope. Nothing was done, no bed made, no clean towels, no vacuum...nothing. We called over to the front desk and they said sorry housekeeping left for the day, but we could come get towels. When we picked up new towels, we asked why our room wasn't cleaned per what we were told at check-in. The response was there's no note of this on your account and housekeeping starts going by rooms at 6am to see if they need to be cleaned. Ummm we are sleeping at that time. We were gone all day and were disappointed to find nothing was done. No response so we took the towels and went back to the room. On Thursday we were sitting in our room and at 9am the housekeeper came by to start cleaning. We were still getting ready and asked if they could come back in an hour. She said she didn't speak English and tried to come in and start cleaning. We said no and then she just gave us towels and left. The housekeeping aspect was truly frustrating and disappointing. Maybe explain better at check in how to properly use the magnets or change the process for the housekeepers in terms of when they check doors. read more

We were looking for a dog friendly hotel on the North Shore, and as we usually stay at Marriott's, booked a night at the Residence Inn (Boston/North Shore) which is located in Danvers. Their website says, "Explore nearby historic sites located less than ten miles away such as Salem and the Salem Witch Museum or take a quick trip into downtown Boston for a night at Fenway Park or TD Garden." But visitors should note that it can take 20 minutes or more to drive to historic Salem, and an hour or more in traffic to drive to Boston. That said, here are the positives: * Dog Friendly! * Large suites with full kitchens - good for extended stays. * Our room looked clean and updated. * Lots of closet space. * Close to highways such as Route 1 and 95. * Free breakfast each morning. And the negatives: * Did I say close to highways? I meant adjacent to a noisy highway. * The bathrooms are very, very, very small (as in it's difficult to close the door when you maneuver inside). * Rooms are dark and only one window (albeit a large slider) opens. * The breakfast eggs taste like they are from a mix. There aren't many dog friendly hotels in this area, and these units are clearly better for extended stays, so this motel deserves a rating bump for those reasons. It should be a 3 to 3.5 star motel, but since it's a great place for dogs, I'm giving this spot a four star rating. read more

Booked my vacation in March - 6 month ahead of our Sept trip. We knew booking over Labor Day weekend would be busy so we booked as early as possible. Received notification 3 days before we are due to arrive that they can't accommodate our reservation due to over booking. While the first night seemed ok, I have never stayed in such a loud place. The noise you hear from floors above is unreal. I got no sleep the second night. There were also people in the dining area /lobby screaming and yelling until around 1:30 am. I couldn't believe they weren't asked to lower their voices. It was so inconsiderate,You could hear them all the way down the hall. I heard several people open their doors and say "be quiet" , yet nothing was done. At 7 am, when breakfast is served, there are people with small boxes loading up to take it back to their rooms therefore quite a few things are gone. A few more things should just be paid attention to. It could have been a better experience-Probably will not stay again. read more

There were so any things wrong with it. The hallway leading to your room smelled like wet dog and rotten eggs. The shower was not cleaned and had hair left in it from the previous stay. I was traveling with my father and he asked for a room accommodated for the handicapped before arriving and our needs were not met. There was dog hair all over the room and carpet. The pillow was stained with blue ink. The walls are as thin as paper and every single movement from the neighbors next door was heard. We even heard the ice machine from down the hall and around the corner. The elevator stopped working the first day we got there. Over all just not a good place to stay. read more

Torn between a 3 and a 4 on this place. One of the closer chains located near Salem but harder to find, the sign to the entrance sneaks up on you and it on a divided highway which means when you miss the exit well it is going to take you 5-10 minutes to turn around and do it all over again. The rooms have been renovated and are nice. Very studio apartment feel and if I was staying for a long time this would be an ideal spot. The downside besides what I have listed is also the traffic and highway noise. You will hear cars flying by all of the time. Did not eat at the breakfast but the check inn process was convenient and quick. The lobby coffee was burnt but warm and gave me a jolt to wake you up. For things around the North Shore area this hotel is ideal. read more

Lately, Residence Inns seem hit or miss to me. This one ... miss. The location is pretty crazy when it comes to finding it. It sort of sneaks up on you ... its set back from the road next to a furniture store and a TGIFridays. My GPS had no idea where the turn was, and by the time I saw the small driveway, I had gone past it. It is no easy task to just turn around on Rt. 1 and head back. You have to take an exit, do a loop around, get back on the other side of the highway, drive past the hotel again, get off another exit and loop back around. Missing the exit cost us 10-15 minutes by the time we were able to turn around and pass it again!!! My advice, just pull into the furniture store/TGIFridays because there is a small connecting patch to the parking lots. Don't wait until you see the Residence Inn sign as the driveway is impossible to pull into while doing 50 mph on crowded Route 1. The hotel seems old and worn down. Our room was small and there was a LOT of road noise. I never would have got to sleep. I requested to change rooms and they said there were none available. I told them I would never be able to sleep and would like to check out and they miraculously found another room (somewhat) not facing the highway. The rooms here have ultra-thin walls and I could hear road noise still (not as bad as the previous room) but also the conversation of my neighbors at night. The room was pretty small and most of the room seemed taken by the kitchenette. The tv was in between the bed and the couch and you would swivel it based on which you happened to be sitting on. The bed wasn't exactly comfortable ... on the firm side for me. The bedding was terrible. The sheets felt scratchy ... the duvet wasn't fluffy ... the pillows were too full. The air conditioning/heating unit made a lot of noise, which actually I didn't mind because it blocked out the neighbors' voices. The room seemed cheap and dumpy and run down. It had definately seen a lot of use over the years. The common areas were pretty bad for a RI ... I saw no hot tub and if they had a pool, it was closed for the season. The breakfast room was very tiny and the selection was not that good. The kitchen we did not use, but it seemed adequate and the fridge/freezer did a good job of keeping our drinks cold. The staff was AWESOME but given the location and the run down feel of this place, I wouldn't stay here again unless I had to. We were in Danvers for Hysteria Haunted Attraction at the Connors Farm, which said it was only a few miles away but due to the pain in the ass that Route 1 is ... it took us 20 minutes to get there. Staying at a hotel further away but more easily accessible would have been the better plan. read more

Man, I was totally bummed with our latest stay. The first time we stayed here the renovations did not interfere with our stay but this time it was unpleasant. Chicken bones littered all grassy areas between and around buildings 2 & 6 which made it almost impossible to comfortably walk our dogs. The doggie poo bag dispenser was useless because it was empty the whole week. We constantly had bugs in our room....gnats can be very annoying when you're trying to sleep. The hot tub was gone and the pool/ basketball area under construction. The trash bins were packed most of the time. One morning I walked out and the bin (located 3 feet from our door) had trash overflowing out of it, a bag stacked on top and towels scattered on the ground at the base. We initially had to change rooms because the internet and phone did not work in the first room since the jack was about to fall out of the wall. There is no way this property would meet Marriott standards in its current condition. **The employees are still professional and helpful. The breakfast area is completed. read more

My 80 year mom was evacuated from her condo do to water damage from a broken pipe. I can only say wonderful things about the Residence INN in Danvers. They have been very sensitive and helpful with my mom's situation. My mom's studio is clean and very well set up. It has a complete kitchen including oven and glass stove top!!!! We stayed here overnight after a long flight. It was generally good. The only problem was that there's no sound proofing on the ceiling so I could hear the person above me walk around early in the morning and it was loud. The breakfast has limited selection. The hotel is next to a Costco and shopping center so it's a pretty good location if you want to cook your own food. Just remember to get an upstairs room (there's only 2 floors). read more

I stayed here for one night on a recent trip with a friend to Salem, MA. The Marriott chain of hotels is always my first choice. I didn't know what to expect, since I have stayed in other Residence Inn's that were in need of renovation. This hotel exceeded my expectations. The hotel is set up like a two story apartment complex. We arrived waaaay earlier than the 3pm check-in time, but were allowed in our room. It happened to still be breakfast time (free buffet is included each morning), so we were told to take advantage. They have a belgian waffle maker, scrambled eggs, potatoes. sausage, bagels, toast, oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, etc. The dining room area was very cozy, with all new furniture and they have a giant flat screen on the wall, so you can watch while eating breakfast. The lobby also has 2 computers if you need to use the internet. They also have coffee 24/7 in the lobby. And they're coffee is yummy! The room is set up apartment style with a full kitchen (stove, fridge, sink, utensils, plates, even a dishwasher!) , living area with sofa that pulls out and a chair. There's a flat screen TV, that swivels, so you can either sit in the living area or in the bed to watch tv. BTW, the bed was really comfortable. Just outside the bathroom was a vanity with a huge mirror and sink. The toilet and shower are separated from this area by a door. I did not like how small this room was. The door just misses hitting the toilet when open it, and you have to get behind the door to close it once you enter the bathroom. There is not much space at all. But the room was completely renovated. Everything was brand new and the kitchen and vanity area had beautiful granite counter tops. The kitchen appliances were all stainless steel. The hotel also has an outdoor pool, basketball court and indoor exercise room. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, asking multiple times how our food was and clearing any dirty dishes. The manager also walked around asking guests about their stay. Overall, a great hotel, great staff. I would stay here again. read more

Bathroom: The bathroom needed to be recleaned (shower area, floor as well as the toilet) it was a separate area from the sink. Food and drink: A small bistro was available in the hotel, and provided full buffet breakfast daily and dinner till midnight. The area was well organized, and could seat about 30 people at a time, coffee & hot water were available all day. 6. Conference Room / Business Center: 24 hour Business center is available. 7. Pool /Jacuzzi/sauna: The hotel contained a pool, & tennis court. We found that these were kept clean. There were warning signs that no lifeguard was on duty, the pool was open 9am to 9pm daily. The pool area was kept locked and only accessed by the room key. There were also fresh towels available for use. 8. Dirty dirty dirty BUGS EVERYWHERE And The staff here is extremely rude and do not know how to deal with customers! They treat the guests as if they should be kissing their feet. Linda the tall short brown short haired woman claims to be manager, yet she speaks with sarcasm if you have legitimate questions about your bill. They also charge you without asking if they feel its reasonable without authorization! And if you ask Linda any questions whether it be the hotel policy as we did when we first came she is extremely rude and stated it is not her job to answer our questions she is only the weekend manager! What kind of manager is that?! The english woman Justine was just as unhelpful! She could not justify why the hotel kept charging 'authorizations' when i only stayed there for a couple of days! Peter was rude to me when i called on the phone before i ever got there to ask as about breakfast.. It seems this staff finds themselves superior to guests who have no right to ask questions! The general manager is the filthy queen of them all,, after all what kind of place had she produced?! She cannot properly train her staff to be kind and helpful and resilient. She cannot train her housekeepers because none of them actually CLEAN they do not vacuum and leave the fireplace and dishes everywhere and you must ask the front desk specifically what to so but them they stop doing something else. The light bulbs were out and the fireplace was broken! The breakfast was not good at all watery eggs and lousy oatmeal and old milk. The room was filthy and disgusting i took pictures of bed bugs in the bed! I had bites all over my neck and looked horrible at the auction the next day. And ants all over the floor! I made the mistake of putting my suitcase down on the ground overnight and i lifted it to put it in the table, i found thousands of ANTS swarming all over my case and onto the table!!! They were EVERYWHERE the kitchen floor, the bathroom, the bed the couches DISGUSTING! Heres a picture! When i told the 'manager' Linda she laughed at me and said we could not possibly have ants in this hotel i must be seeing things and they did not address the situation! She said you are more then welcome to speak to the General manager in a sarcastic tone, but if I were you, I wouldn't mention it because she may cut your reservation short if you do because it is a liability for us!!! how dare she say that! Basically she was telling me if i complained they would kick me out to cover their behinds. I spoke with Grace and she was nicer, however, she acted like a helpless lamb who follows the heard and knew it was wrong but could do nothing. I decided not to mention it to them and I took the liberty to check out myself and tell the world about my absolutely horrible experience. I couldnt even find the hotel the location is horrible. I just feel bad for the next people staying there and wasting their money and seeing all those bugs in my old room because i bet a thousand dollars that cleaning crew did not clean it!!! I was VERY pleased with my stay here. Still in the room reviewing as I write. Huge room (#621) w/ couch, 2desks, full size fridge, microwave, king sz bed (very comfortable) w/ premium sheets/comforter, good sized bathroom area and full stove. The room and decor are newer than most (hotels) in the area. The location was ideal (on route 1 behind Fridays) and the room was quiet and clean. I would stay here again without question as I travel to the area a lot. Free parking, breakfast and internet access. If I did have a complaint its the no hot tub. Besides that, the overall quality, comfort, and price make it a solid 3stars and a good destination if you're looking for a comfy nights sleep and easy access to boston and the north shore. read more

It is not often that you receive the focus on customer service we were afforded by Brandon Pliskaner the Front Office Manager at this location. Upon arrival, because of policy beyond his control, it did not start well. After a 4 1/2 hour drive from Maine we were disappointed which was immediately remedied by Brandon. His personal attention to all of our needs and willingness to go above our expectations for our less than 24 hour stay will not go unnoticed on a personal or professional level. A great stay! My company put me up here for a week of training. I am from California. The front staff were amazing, professional and attentive. The hotel is quiet, has a nice workout facility with treadmills and free weights. The room was spacious and clean, did not have any unpleasant odor, and was very quiet. The daily breakfast was the best I had ever had while traveling. The staff should again get attention. I had a few problems when I first arrived, they addressed problems quickly and followed up multiple times to make sure my stay was pleasant. I will surely recommend this hotel. read more

Well I checked in but didn't actually end up staying here, so as you can imagine the rating is not very good. First of all, I couldn't get into the room. The key worked but I just couldn't get the door open. I must have tried ten times. Back to the very friendly woman at the desk, who sent a maintenance guy with me. He opened the door first time, and several more times to show me how. I don't know if it was a timing thing between inserting the key and turning the knob, or turning the knob in one smooth motion - I wasn't there long enough to really figure it out. But anyway, once inside, the room reeked of deodorizer. I felt like I was getting a headache after a few minutes. The updated kitchen looked very nice. The bathroom was tiny. The room seemed cave-like, with a small sliding glass door and small window near the door. Road noise from the nearby Route 1/114 intersection was noticeable even inside. Putting all these things together, I made a reservation at Courtyard and bailed on this place, something I've never done before. The staff were super nice from start to finish and didn't give me a hard time about leaving or charge me anything. I wouldn't consider this place unless it's for a long stay and you need a kitchen. The Courtyard (behind Liberty Tree Mall) was much quieter and more comfortable. read more

From the front desk to engineering and houskeeping. Lots of smiles and yes's. Not that there aren't issues. Mariott waited too long for the renovations and even though the kitchen, carpeting and drapery is new, even the sofa chair combo, the remaining casegoods are not. Basic housekeeping could be elevated a notch, and consistency is a goal to be worked on. Mariott needs to invest in WiFi wireless and dump Lodgenet. However, you won't go wrong staying here for a night or an extended stay for the price, Just smile back at the staff. read more
