Last night was the first time I was truly disappointed in this restaurant and I have been coming here for over 20 years. The food was bland and the service was terrible. The waitress made our experience bad. My son spilled his drink and it spilled all over me. No biggie. Accidents happen. However, she took wet cloths to pick it up and didn't get the sides of the tablecloth. My pants were wet and she left the towels on the floor at my feet, smelling like bleach. She didn't offer a replacement drink but when the check came, you better believe the charge for the drink was there. She was inattentive and took forever. She made sure to add the gratuity of 18% to the bill even though we were only 5. I am now reluctant to return. I hope they read this review and use it to improve. read more

Great little gem in El Paso, located in the Pershing area. Parking is a bit odd, but you'll never not find a spot. If you love Italian food as I do, I highly recommend you give here a try. Yes, it might be questionable when walking in but, get a front seat on their "patio" and enjoy the view. They have an extensive menu, but I always go for my three favorite dishes- Chicken fettuccine, Chicken parmigiana, and Manicotti. I always get the large portions and it's perfect for two spilt meals if you're not a big eater, mind you the entrees do come with an antipasto salad which is to die for, I love the dressing it comes with- very refreshing to start the meal. Also the pasta comes with butter bread...the last few times they were burnt but still good. The prices are nice and affordable, worth trying if you're central and need a hot meal. read more

It seems to me that there is a positive correlation between how "house-like" a restaurant is and the quality of the food! That being said, this restaurant is basically someone's living room; therefore, the food is fantastic! The House dressing is seriously amazing! We liked the anti pasta salad with Ranch, but the house dressing would have made it unbelievable. I thought the Eggplant Parmesan was really great-and even better heated up later. The Spaghetti with marinara was fantastic-it had a good, sweet flavor. And the Tortellini with ham in cream sauce was amazing. We have never in the 20 plus years coming to this establishment have had a problem with anything at this restaurant until tonight. We arrived here about 5:45 tonight my guest and I. We were expecting the same excellent service we usually get. Much to my surprise we did not expect it to be a negative situation. As we arrived a couple was ahead of us waiting for a table. The Restaurant was not full, they had the tiny usual tables at the very front enclosed porch, 2 tables free and two round tables free. The couple were seated at one of the round tables by the beverage machine way at the right corner. When this over weight waitress with black frame glasses came for us, she quickly said the only seating we have is out here, meaning the enclosed porch area with the crowded little tables. I said Nah maam we dont want to sit here, we would like that table, meaning the round table that was left open next to the one the couple sat at. The waitress said the only space is out here again meaning the tables at the porch. I said, well the table is open there, and you sat that couple down. She responded "uhum". We stared blankly for a few seconds and I said. Well You let the couple ahead of us sit at that round table there, there were two you still have one. She replied again "uhum" and remained quiet for a few seconds again. I repeated and this time I pointed at the direction of the table that she sat the couple and said, you sat the couple that was ahead of us at that table there. She then reluctantly turned around and said OH that table is for three or more people. I replied Three or more people? but, again I said, You let that couple that was ahead of us sit at that other table. She replies They are two people. I replied but they are the same tables? they are not three people. They are a couple, and you sat them there they arent three people. She continued to argue with me, and replied "Thats a bigger table". I answered "a bigger table?" she said "yes its bigger". I said "UUUUGGGHHHH fine i dont want to argue". SO we left. We always by coincidence get seated at that one table by the window. It always seems to be empty, no matter what time we come here to dine, lunch time, early afternoon, evening or near closing, it seems we get that table. Tonight we were refused that table. Hey its not like I am here begging to eat free. Its a just a darn table come on people! I am paying for my food i want space when I eat not to be crowded in that section with the small tables at the entrance. read more

My family's favorite place to go out and celebrate graduations, promotions, and any other excuse to come here! It might be small but they are always so accommodating with the a group but it's rear for a date night as well. Ate dinner here on a Friday night around 9PM. The food here was okay. I got the spaghetti with meat sauce and ravioli which was pretty bland but I enjoyed it. Upon ordering wine they made no attempt to hide the fact that it was boxed (they poured it out of the Franzia box right in front of me) which I somewhat respected. A very homey feel in that it literally looks like you're in someone's house who just decided to set up a bunch of tables, put on an apron, and start taking orders (there was even mail on the counter next to our table). Definitely not the place to bring a first date or anyone you plan on impressing. I probably would have given this place 3 stars had it not been for the apparent money making scheme with the El Paso Towing Company. We finished our meal around 9:45 PM and decided to walk to a bar next door. After a couple drinks I walked out around 10:55 to find that my car had been towed. After calling the towing company they informed me that the owner of the Italian Kitchen had called them to have my vehicle towed because they had closed at 10 PM. This decision made no sense to me as it was a Friday night, the parking lot was otherwise empty (with the exception of my friends car who the towing company was coming back for), and the restaurant was closed so our vehicles were not deterring anyone who wanted to eat there. Seamed like a poor decision by a disgruntled owner that cost them several future customers who would have visited again (and myself $143 to get my car back). read more

I was the first customer of the day and the last to get served. Then my food was cold! What did i do to them? The Server took my order and reheated it in the microwave!!! WTF Over!!! This locally owned Italian restaurant has a homey feel. The food seemed bland, but it was a nice place for dinner. The dinner included entree, salad, soup & dessert. The tomato sauce on my eggplant Parmesan wasn't nearly as robust with flavor as I anticipated. I sampled the chicken fettuccini and it was nothing over the top. Simple Italian food served by grandmas. I parked behind the building and worried at first as I appeared to come in thru the kitchen. They reassured me it's fine just keep going and take a left. It has a super homemade feel to the place which makes me happy. The table I chose was tucked into a corner in a way that you worry if they ever get busy the waitress won't reach you. The wonderful lady serving tables immediately acknowledged me and left me know she would bring over a menu. From my seat I could see the case containing the wine selection, delightful boxed wine. Which the highest glass price mark was $5, with all options allowing for carafes if desired. I lasagna which she recommended was delicious just like my grandma used to make, it came with garlic bread and salad, though she let me switch out soup. The salad was simple yet fresh, the garlic bread was crispy and bursting with the aromas of garlic, and the spaghetti and meatball was phenomenal. The meat sauce was hearty and had bold flavors. It is a house restaurant where you can actually walk through the kitchen to enter into the seating area; if you park in the rear parking lot. We had a full and half baked spaghetti. Both were large portions. The side salads are basic - iceberg lettuce, cumber, and tomatoes. Nothing fancy but tasty. Now the bread is awesome with lots of butter and crispy edges. This restaurant used to have the best Italian food in our city. However it rapidly went down about a year ago. Mouthy, argumentative waitress blasts carnival-like music which is to HER liking. This is the best Italian food in El Paso, perhaps one of the best all around restaurants in El Paso. The anti pasta salad is superior to any other anywhere. Their homemade Italian dressing is to die for. I live 1.5 hours away, and I always buy an extra quart of the Italian dressing to take home. Do not refrigerate! There are many regulars in this place, and the servers never forget you or what you are apt to order. I get there every other month, and my order is already put in for me. When the Italian Kitchen opened on the Westside, I was really looking forward to dining there. We went once and never went again. It was not worth going. The only thing Italian was the names on the menu. We were so disappointed. If you enjoyed dining there, you have no idea what Italian food really tastes like. This wasn't it. So, a friend wanted to meet up there for lunch last week and I agreed hoping that things had improved over the years. It hasn't. I had something they called chicken cacciatore. Not! My friend had a dish billed as rigatonni and it was a plate filled with tasteless baked pasta with melted cheese. Something she said she would not drive to the westside to have again. The soup was a solid 2 star and the side ceasar salad was probably the highlight of the meal. So, you ask, "How would you know authentic italian food?" I'm glad you asked. My husband had the 1/2 plate of spaghetti with red sauce. He loved it. My grandson had the 1/2 portion of pasta with butter. Again a rave review. I had the 1/2 plate of pasta with olive oil, jalapeños and mushrooms. Delicious. We all agreed as hungry as we were the half portions were more than enough. As a native El Pasoan, I can't believe this was my first visit to The Italian Kitchen. The feel of the place is reminiscent of the original Capetto's on Montana, but in a more intimate setting, which I loved. It's difficult to find parking streetside on Pershing, but there's plenty of dedicated parking in the back. We were greeted and seated immediately. The breakdown: Wine - huge glass of Chianti for under $5. A steal. Other wines available, but there isn't a huge wine selection. Bread - a hearty balance of butter to bread ratio. Toasty around the edges, but soft and warm in the middle. Salad - house salad is small, but the dressing and seasoning is so tasty. I think it's better than Capetto's simple yet delicious dressing. You must order salad separately from meal. Full order of baked spaghetti: a huge serving that could probably feed three people! There is mozzarella aplenty. The noodles were cooked just right. While the sauce is good, I found it a little watered down. I didn't not order dessert, but I'll be back to try another dish soon--probably the rigatoni--and I'll leave room for dessert. I'll also try the antipasto salad to start. I like that half orders of all dishes are available. This is a nice little spot in El Paso to visit for a more intimate yet low key dinner. read more

Mediocre at best. Went in for lunch and ordered the jalapeño poppers as appetizers then an Italian plate dinner and A lasagna full order. First off the food came out exactly how it was suppose to which is why I'm giving them 2 starts instead of one but when I was reading the previous reviews when someone says chefboyardee taste better they are not exaggerating. Everything is so bland, the pasta doesn't mix well with the sauce because the sauce is too watery so all you taste is stale box pasta. The salad was good, soup was good as well, the lasagna was the same way, it taste like they just layer the pasta on the spot because it doesn't have that baked in taste. The desert was good as well it was a napoleon ice cream cake. The decor is cheap plastic cups from cicis and they ask you to keep your dirty utensils for all meals yet they charge 20-30 a plate which I don't expect Michelin star quality and service but I expect better than Olive Garden or at least the same. read more

This is the first time I've ever liked a restaurant's spaghetti! I got the spaghetti with meat sauce and cheddar - baked. It was delicious! No skimping out on the sauce or cheese like other restaurants do. My husband got the Italian plate and ate the entire thing! It's a nice and tiny little restaurant but it does get very full for dinner. I suggest going at a slower time such as for lunch. We will return again. read more
