I am not an expert when it comes to Laplace or St. John Parish. But I did work out here a bunch and everyone knows that when you work somewhere, you better find places to eat. Jambalaya Shoppe came highly recommended by a work buddy so I met him there one day. After that, it became my go-to lunch spot. Like its name indicates, this place sells a bunch of jambalaya. I rarely eat jambalaya that isn't made by me so I was skeptical. But they also sell gumbo which every red blooded Louisianaian loves so that is what I ordered. The gumbo here is legitimately good. It is filled with large pieces of chicken. When I say large, I mean multiple whole thighs. Get it with a fork and knife. Seriously. This is not your normal restaurant gumbo. It is thick, rich, and has a well developed roux. In addition to the massive amounts of chicken, it also includes a massive amount of sausage. Luckily for me, it came pre sliced and only the chicken needed to be cut up before eating. The best thing about the gumbo is that it is super reasonable. Don't quote me on prices because my brain doesn't work so good, but I think it was like $9 with tax for gumbo and a water. This is a massive meal for $9! If you want good gumbo, and are in LaPlace, get yourself to Jambalaya Shoppe. read more

I was driving back from a cruise and just wanted some Cajun food. I tried two other places but they were closed. That led me here to delicious Jambalaya and red beans. The fried fish is on point and the sausage and chicken gumbo is delicious. I only gave 4 stars since the menu wasn't accurate and I wish they would have used a sharpie to mark out what they don't sell anymore. read more

I love this place and eat here often. I have a somewhat strange order- I like the chicken and sausage gumbo with no chicken and no sausage. It's basically rice and gravy and it's THE BEST comfort food. Anyway, they are always very nice and accommodating. I also recommend the mini crawfish pies and the chicken stew. Well... this place knocked it out of the park for me. I ordered thru DoorDash... after I placed my order the nice lady called to inform me that they were out of their daily special (I understand why!) so I asked her to surprise me as I'm a food guy and like trying new things. I told her I had never had jambalaya before and not from around the Laplace area. She mentioned a few things and said to just hook me up with something... and Wow! She hooked me up! I guess it was chicken pork jambalaya with potato salad a boudin link(which I have never had) and a banana pudding and a chocolatey cup... I couldn't eat it all but I tried. It was so so good. I love jambalaya now. Spending a couple weeks in the area so I'll be ordering here again. I urge you to get you something from this place. Wow, portion sizes were huge with reasonable prices. Everything was good--my only complaint is the chicken pieces in the jambalaya were too big. I would have preferred it in more bite-size pieces. And the most impressive thing that stood out was the wonderful customer service. Awesome Jambalaya, not salty like many other places. If the jambalaya is this good I definitely want to try the other menu items. A supplier brought this as a take out, but it was great. I could have eaten the whole bucket, but strongly resisted the 3rd serving. I will visit the store as soon as I can, but it seems to be a great place for Jambalaya. The food is decent but I will spend my money elsewhere until something is done with customer service. She ended the call with silence and just hung up the phone. Ordered the 'Shoppe Combo'. It came with pastalaya, chicken and sausage gumbo, a roll, and two sides (I had red beans and a salad). All in all, phenomenal meal. Gumbo and pastalaya were seasoned really well. The pastalaya had a spicy kick to it. Red beans were ok, but would definitely order it on a Monday with some sausage. Although I'm from Southeast Louisiana I guess jambalaya isn't my thing. I went to this restaurant yesterday. I ordered enough for two people because I wanted to bring home some for the wife. At the restaurant I could only eat about a third of what they gave me because they gave me so much. Now onto the taste. It was a little too peppery for my tastes but that could just be me. As far as the rice being too mushy and overcooked like the previous reviewer said that's just untrue. The rice is jambalaya is normally sticky and soft not separate as in other rice dishes. The restaurant itself is very clean and professionally decorated. It almost appears to be a franchise. Back to my first sentence I think jambalaya should be a side dish and not a complete meal. In my opinion it's just a seasoned rice with some small bits of meat. Hardly what I call a well rounded meal. This is not to say what The Jambalaya Shoppe served me was inferior in any way. It's just not my cup of tea. Perhaps if they served something in addition to the jambalaya plate. Hell....I don't know. I'm not a restaurateur. I just left there thinking I made a mistake by coming to a place that only serves Jambalaya. Anyways I wish them continued success but I'm sorry to say it won't be with my support. read more

I expected the jambalaya from a place called "The Jambalaya Shoppe" to be outta this world. NOT. To even call that jambalaya is an insult to Cajun cooks everywhere. It was bland, mushy with big dry hunks of chicken and little dry hard pieces of sausage, kinda like little meat hockey pucks. The white beans were from a can. The potato salad was eatable, but there was certainly nothing extraordinary about it. I ordered a side of fried fish and was served 2 nice size pieces and they were actually pretty good. I ordered 'A' side of fish, not 2 sides and didn't realize that the two pieces of fish were two orders until I looked at my check and was charged six bucks for those two pieces. Maybe the cashier could have mentioned to me that a side order consisted of one piece and asked me if I wanted two, at which time I would have let her know that I didn't. But she looked like she would rather be any place else in the world besides there. Let's just say this, no one can accuse her of being too friendly. For myself and my friend to eat there was almost 30 bucks. I left hungry, disappointed and pissed off. One of the stars is for the fish, which was hot and tasty. I ordered a large bucket to go of pork jambalaya. The seasoning was really good but the rice was mushy and over cooked. There wasn't very much meat in my bucket either but what was there was tasty. If the rice wasn't mushy it would have been delicious even with the lack of meat. read more

I have eaten here before, I got the gumbo for two and it almost put me in the hospital. I had a horrible case of food Poisoning. It was the only thing I ate that day,a few hours later I was throwing up. I was vomiting profusely, from 9:30 Pm to 6am . I called and notified a staff member there . This place is interesting. I am sure if they begin to franchise this out to other locations outside of Louisiana they might see further success. I did not try the pastalaya or jambalaya as it was not recommended. I did try the gumbo and to me it was good.
