I have no problems with the doctors here, as far as I'm aware this has been consistently the best Joint location I know of. However, I'd suggest you pay cash when you come in, and/or keep an eye on your bank statements. I had a mysterious $10 charge show up on my bank account. I hadn't gone there in weeks, so not sure what it could've been, let alone what would cost "$10." I called the Van Nuys office, they had no evidence at least in their system that there was a $10 charge, so must be some weird corporate thing? They gave me the email of the manager of the location who I've reached out to several times and hasn't answered me. I have had a card on file for years at this place, I wonder how/if they've snuck these $10 charges on me AND you? Not great, Bob. Now I have to call the bank, dispute the charge, and get a whole new damn debit card, change all my payments online & everywhere else. What a pain in the ass. I signed up with them because they said that I can come in for an adjustment at any time, any day of the week, without an appointment but I drove there the other day while I was in major pain to find they were closed for business. They did not even leave a note on the door for customers, or a voicemail greeting to explain why they were closed during business hours. When I called the front desk the following day to ask, I found out they have the rudest receptionist! She did not apologize for the inconvenience. She simply told me that I can go to another location, then hung up on me while I was still talking. Needless to say, I got a refund and will not be returning to this location on Burbank Blvd. I sure hope their other offices have better customer service. read more

In early July I went in to get a chiropractic adjustment because I was having hip pain. I believed one of my legs was longer than the other so went in a signed up for the $35.00 first time customer special. I had no idea I was signing up for a monthly subscription plan ,the receptionist failed to disclose this important fact to me. I called less than 30 days later to cancel and someone answered the phone (female voice) . I needed to cancel my membership, she then told me I was obligated to pay for a 2nd month of services.  I agreed to honor my contract even though I had no idea I was entering into one. She allowed me to cancel my membership by phone and said I was all good to go.  I asked her a second time "that's it, I'm all good to go with no further action " she replied "yes you are all set". I said thank you and hung up. Here is why I would not recommend this place, they are clearly taking advantage of people allowing them to cancel by phone (but not actually canceling the charges). So I called in and now the tell me I need to fill out a cancelation form or they can't cancel the membership. Why was this not disclosed to me when I called in to cancel in August? The receptionist accused me of lying and said she would have never told me that a client could cancel by phone.  So now I'm extremely upset she's calling me a liar basically, she hands the phone to a manager who luckily was standing right next to her and he reiterated the same nonsense. I needed to fill out a cancelation form or they would not stop charging me. Stay away or try a different location. read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT agree or sign any contracts here. This is not your typical chiropractor. Back in 2018, I was going pretty frequently and the receptionist sold me on this 6-month flex plan. I thought it was a pretty good deal because it was 6 months and I didnt feel like I was committed to a full year, so I agreed and signed the contract as I was leaving their office. After my six months were up, I stopped going because the chiropractor messed up my neck in a pretty bad way (I actually went back home to PA to get it fixed by my main chiropractor). I later found out that year I was still being charged after the six months. I called the office, spoke to a gentlemen and asked for the membership to be cancelled immediately. He confirmed over the phone that it was cancelled. He mentioned on the phone that it states in the contract that after 6 months are up, it turns into an automatic month to month charge - well I wasn't aware of that AND I never received a copy of my contract.... Fast forward to now, I was looking over all my subscriptions and noticed that they've been charging me for the membership every month to this date since I signed up (i'm subscribed to a lot of things so I always overlooked this). So now that 6-month plan I agreed to (and cancelled) turned into a 4 year plan?! I contacted the manager Nic. He did not seem to care at all as I asked for reimbursement for AT LEAST last month and he completely ignored my request and email. I never received the contract they had me signed. Never received any emails regarding my membership. Nothing. I had to dig through my bank statements to see what they were doing. A trustworthy company contacts their clients to let them know if there are any changes in their membership. A trustworthy company contacts their clients when they notice they haven't been using their membership for 4 years. These people don't care. They are not a trustworthy company. They just want your money and could care less about your chiropractic health. Anyways, do not fall for their membership scam. Even when you do cancel and they confirm, it's not actually cancelled and you'll end up spending a stupid amount of money like I did. Terrible management. Membership contracts are a scam. They lost all my trust and took my money. I'll never step foot into this place again. read more

Came in after 2 days of not getting any relief for my lower back. Walk-in and sign up process was easy and Dr. Kernes was able to provide me near-instant relief. He was also kind enough to explain exactly what was going on as well as guidelines for my ongoing treatment. Bonus round: he was able to tell I was prior military and also mentioned his prior service. Didn't take much to sign up for 2 months (at an amazing price) since my profession has me constantly in awkward positions for my spine. I was on my way to The Joint yesterday when I was expected to get there by 6:30 but hit unexpected traffic and got there at 6:55, 5 minutes before they closed. This location is so great because they always have 2 chiropractors staffed and one of them was already working on another patient and I had the great pleasure of being seen by Dr. Sophia Chang who was amazing! Not only was she really good but she was so very nice and understanding about me walking in 5 minutes before they closed. Whenever I'm in or around this area, I go out of my way to make a visit here because this location is that great! read more

This place is a joke! There was only one chiropractor available, and while I was waiting I saw several people leave the office because of that fact. I came in as a new patient. Once they processed me as a new patient information I was taken to the rear to get my blood pressure. The doctor took my blood pressure four times, and each time the numbers were wildly off. I relayed to him that I had JUST gotten a physical, to which I had my results with me, and those numbers on his little machine were not consistent with what my GP doctor concluded for my physical. He declined seeing those results. Because my pressure didn't read below a certain number on his machine I was refused service (as being a risk). I had to laugh to keep from getting upset. I have been receiving chiropractic care for over 20 years and never ever was refused service. Only reason I came here is because I no longer have health insurance (due to the pandemic loss of coverage). But I will not be returning. POST-OWNER RESPONSE: Hi, your policy of not seeing patients with high blood pressure/hypertension is a biased policy. You see patients with other health conditions, much worse for a chiropractic adjustment. It's unheard of and again, extremely biased. read more

Initially loved my service with Dr. Reed but it was false advertising as far as them saying they're always there during business hours - showed up yesterday around noon and waited half an hour, no one was there. No warning. I was in pain, so this was very upsetting. Called today to see if Dr. Reed was there and was greeted by Carol - the extremely rude receptionist. She didn't apologize about the inconvenience she just kept repeating they were "short staffed" and then hung up on me! (The staff is only her and the doctors so if they're short staffed it means she called in sick lol) So we went in person to sort this out and get a refund for our package that we had purchased and she was full of even more attitude in person. If you need a quick back and neck crack, this is the place for you. Unfortunately your muscles will still be unbalanced and throw your alignment out of whack in a few days. So if you want to spend $20 every week for 5 mins of back and neck cracking, then have at it. I should have know better and stopped my wife from signing up for the minimum 2 month contract for their maintenance plan. But I was nice and let her sign us up,giving them the benefit of the doubt. The best chiropractor/physical therapist will realign your body, strengthen the weak muscle that's throwing off the balance, and tell you NOT to come back after a few visits. The Joint will realign you but won't tell you what the actual problem is. Their business relies on you coming back. It's a back and neck cracking factory. Strengthen your core, alternate running and biking. I get a massage (I bought a massage chair). My lower back pain is gone and The Joint had nothing to do with fixing the problem. I have been a member here since Aug and have noticed so much improvement in my daily life. About a year ago, I broke my elbow and was in a cast. Ever since, I have had severe shoulder impingement. With the help of all the doctors but especially Dr. Bystrom and Dr. Anat I can't say enough wonderful things about all of them. I go every week and I always feel better after my adjustment. I'm 30. My chronic back pain had reached a tipping point and I could hardly finish my morning walk let alone work to pay rent so I decided to give the joint a try seeing as it was in my neighborhood. I brought my MRI and my sob story as to why I couldn't be fixed with each prior doctor telling me contradictory stories and how the last chiropractor on my insurance I saw was afraid to even touch my back. I had no major traumatic incidents that explained what was going on. The details didn't add up to Dr Gordon, who saw it for what it was and expertly identified all of the issues in the moment, even some I didn't know where even going on - such as my pelvis being rotated to the point that my right foot was hovering a whole two inches shorter - and this was creating pain in the lower back that kept me from finishing my walk. Beyond that I had chronic thoracic pain that wouldn't let up even when I would lie in bed and holding anything or standing for too long would lead to a burning pain that I had just tolerated for a decade. His adjustments helped me find some relief and mobility the day of, and he encouraged me to even follow up on my usual gym routine without heavy compression, which I did. I went from hardly being able to walk to a workout at the gym - starting to focus on the deeper supporting muscles such as the rhomboids and wall angels for posture. Adjustments aren't a one and done thing so he set me up on a plan which I desperately needed and which was affordable to me at the joint. Six weeks later, I feel like my life has changed and like I've been given a new lease. Before, I didn't know if I could go on much longer with the pain and felt as though I would have to consider disability at a relatively young age. I felt like I never really got to experience the vitality of my 20s or dance or run without pain. This is changing with every week that I am consistent with my post-adjustment workouts, mindful of my posture, and now going in for regular tune ups. I feel better than I have in a decade. There is more work to be done but for the first time in a long time I am feeling mostly pain free and able to focus on my conversations without pain interrupting my train of thought. I feel really lucky and grateful to have met Dr Gordon and for the Joint having provided an affordable platform to receive much needed care. I have also received supplemental adjustments from other doctors there who are also very adept and knowledgeable. Thank you so much. To anyone else suffering - patience and consistency is key. Be mindful of your posture and supplement your adjustments with regular exercises afterwards to strengthen your supporting muscles. Never add strength to dysfunction. Stay hydrated and listen to the doctor's advice. If you're reading this review I hope you brought your phone up to your head and not your head down to your phone - keep that 60 pounds of pressure off your upper back and neck muscles. Really like the doctors that were in the clinic when I visited. Appreciated that they took the time to explain everything to me, and lay out what would happen during the realignment. Realignment was incredible, and I think it really helped out my back. Couldn't be happier about that. However, the reason I'm giving 3 stars Is because, as soon as my procedure was done, my doctor turned in to, what can best be describe as, a used car salesman. His "prescription" for me was that I come in 3 times this week, 2 times next week and 2 times the week after that...but since the package they offer is $80 for only 4 visits, I'd basically have to spend $120 to get myself taken care of... I honestly don't mind paying that...but the way that information was pushed on to me felt incredibly aggressive and very sneaky. I think people should be told upfront about the related costs of ongoing care. I would've been a lot more eager to sign up if I hadn't felt like I was being coerced in to it. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this location. I only went because of the reviews but after being there and being "adjusted" I honestly think it was horrible. I just needed my back and neck adjusted and I left with neck pain since he couldn't crack it and kept trying I was in pain for days. Never again. If I could give no stars I would. However, I had an unfortunate experience with the front desk gentleman named Ernie who was not very helpful whatsoever but rather argumentative. The Joint is a way of life for me. Being active w/surfing, snowboarding, biking & generally just being on the move I rely on Dr. Nystrom & his fellow staff to keep my body in motion. The adjustments are always spot on & are just what the Doctor ordered after a swell or a week on the mountain beating my body up. All doctors have a well knowledge in what they practice. I like the fact that they have services in other states & have great care in Portland OR too. The friendly staff gets me checked in promptly & always greet me w/a smile. I've tried several chiros here 1 out of 4 were helpful. This chain overall isn't good. There isn't attention or care put into the patients. Also their techniques are incredibly limited. There seems to be a lack of training for some of the chiropractors. I have left and not felt adjusted at all just frustrated I wasted my time. The joint has been a godsend for me. I spent years struggling with so many factors involved in finding and securing good chiropractic care and I have finally found a home. For many years, I found it difficult to find consistent care from a chiropractor who could assess my needs and address them without rendering me immobile for a week following the visit. I found that when I first signed up for the joint. After close to a decade of regular care, my doctor retired and I found myself needing to search again. Luckily, I found a new doctor here in the San Fernando Valley. By the looks of the review, I wasn't the first to find him, and I am sure I won't be the last.
