I generally stop by here when I happen to be in the area walking around or when I need something specific and this is the closest spot I can think of picking it up. It's near the corner of 5th and High, there's a little bit of street parking out front but I always walk because I'm close. The staff is crazy friendly. They are always quick to help you find what you're looking for or make suggestions. I have my Ohio medical marijuana card and from time to time I need small items like papers or a lighter. While walking around the Short North we were told by the local people to stop in at the "adult tobacco" shop to have a look around. So we did just that. I was amazed by the array of items that are available for purchase here. Your typical smoking apparatuses are available and a wide selection complimentary items are available for purchase. "Tobacco Shop"...yeah right! With a name like "The Joint", we all know what goes down here. A huge selection of pipes, papers, and other contraptions to be used for smoking...tobacco. Umm, yeah. Compared to the handful of similar places around campus that cater to the ever-growing number of college-going "tobacco" users, The Joint is tops in Columbus. I haven't had the need to shop here in a few years, but when I was in the market for some of the products that are offered I was always surprised and even perplexed by the selection. A large number of the pipes are hand-blown by local craftsmen ("hippies") and can be found in sizes/styles to fit even the most casual smoker's price range. The one thing that I like the most about The Joint is it's staff, which is more or less the same guy with dark hair and glasses every day. He's got a wicked sense of humor and is rarely ever condescending like some of the other older, more jaded head shop proprietors on High St. can be at times. Oh yeah, I almost forgot (probably from using products from The Joint too often) to mention that this place is open super late as well to cater to your late night glassware needs. You will not go wrong shopping here. Great hours. Parking meters right out front and the meters take credit and debit carts. Very knowledgeable staff. HOWEVER... Mind your "manners" while in the shop. Meaning, if you are caught being crass, disrespectful, over-sharing personal experiences, put products to your lips or carelessly handle gear, you may get a warning, or you may get removed from the premises. The Joint is a passable but ultimately underwhelming head shop. Perhaps it is its location amongst the galleries and boutiques of the Short North, but the understated, small The Joint plays it perhaps plays it too safe and fails to be remarkable, especially to the sizeable stoner crowd on campus, who have better options closer to home. Still, if you're already in the area and need a glass waterpipe or a pack of zig-zags, The Joint is there. The prices are about what you'd expect and the selection is likewise stereotypical of the High Street headshops. But where Import House has all the class, Puff'N'Stuff's got all the porn and The Dream Merchant has a built-in tattoo parlor, The Joint is simply a headshop. Nothing more, nothing less. My friends and I once got an okay deal on a plastic waterpipe here that resembled, but did not function as, a hookah. The thing was ugly but utilitarian, and broke quickly- perhaps too quickly for the price, but we were the idiots who bought a crappy plastic waterpipe. We also bought a whisk-like head massager here, which saw a lot more use. If you're really looking for tobacco-use-only kinds of products, you probably want to take the hike to campus. If you don't really care and are just in the general mood for these sorts of things (or just want a pack of cigarettes), head to The Joint. read more

In a classic pedestrian shopper move while moving in and out of Short North shops I found myself in The Joint by simply turning left and walking through the door. Yowzah! I was in a head shop and for no reason. But instead of doing a 180 turn I did my best imitation of a cool dude from the 70s, found my groove and did an up and back. The proprietor was efficient in his sales pitch during my visit. 20% - 30% off women's "hippie bags" and when buying t-shirts I would get one for $1 with my first purchase of a t-shirt. Not bad, not bad. There were more than sufficient choices for glass pipes, bongs, inexpensive hookahs and paper/smoke supplies. What seemed out of synch was presentation. The Joint was overhead neon when they could have chosen a decor of lamp lighting to bring the white-noise look down a notch. It all seemed so sterile for an store that is an herb-enabler destination. The Joint in the north area of the Short North succeeds likely by being the place you'd hear, "Oh honey, look! A store selling paraphernalia. Let's look." There have got to be more places nearby on campus that offer things of Real Deal quality. Me? I will stick to Waterbeds 'n Stuff on Sawmill for my incense, off-color birthday cards and a moment to capture to my college youth than trip on down to High for The Joint. read more

Disappointed to have price checked the item i bought when i got home only to realize that i could have bought it on amazon and that they had marked it up like 500%. After tax i paid about $32 and i could have bought it prime for $6 and had it here tomorrow. I am all for supporting small business but i found this to be absolute high way robbery. My friend and I went inside to buy a cheap pack of rolling papers. I began speaking only about smoking marijuana and the employees asked me if the Bugler papers were all I was buying. I said yes but there were people in the check out line ahead of me. As I began mentioning that the vaporizers looked like they were the kind specific for smoking weed, I was asked to stop talking. She asked if I was ready to check out, but at that point I felt so disrespected that I tossed the papers back.on the counter and left. I return.ed a half of an hour later and was told to leave. 10JAN2017 Athens, OH My experience at The Joint I began a trial with kratom on December 14, 2016, during a visit to Florida. So far it is proving to be the first effective treatment in 30 years for my chronic, drug-resistant depression and severe pain. I'm keeping a log of my experience each day: dose, effects and duration. My first major concern was what amount to take and, second, was quality control--where could I purchase genuine mitragyna speciosa. (I got lucky with my first purchase in Florida in December but paid way too much. I also researched buying online but couldn't suss it and I was traveling at the time.) I googled "places to buy kratom in Columbus OH" because Athens had no obvious vendors. I hit The Joint link, did a photo tour then decided to visit in person. Enter Stephen Austin of The Joint in Columbus. I was greeted by a friendly person who easily answered a few of my questions then she directed me to Stephen. I had further questions which Stephen addressed in a clear and detailed manner. (I discovered later that I had interrupted him at a busy time. Patient fellow.) He took the time to listen to my concerns and he shared some stories of other folks experiences with kratom. He is a solid source of knowledge about mitragyna speciosa and many other subjects. I'm glad I visited the store and left with a new variety of kratom at a very delightful price. I trust this person so I will return again. I continue my trial with no ill-effects thus far. Used to go here to buy ecigs a couple times a week but I stopped going and started ordering them online because other than the older guy; the employees are awful. I'm talking HORRIBLE customer service. (I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be knocking people whose idea of a good day is finding a six month old roach between the sofa cushions). Anyhow, when you arrive throw an extra quarter in the meter because if you're not the only one in line you're gonna be there awhile.
