Second time coming here. I came when they first opened and wasn't impressed BUT they have changed the menu and it is amazing. I got a strawberry mimosa to drink and the pipo especial to eat. The waitress suggested adding on avocado which I did and it really added so much to the sandwich. They have lots of different sitting areas. If it's not too hot, I really suggest the outside. Tap water, owner said alkaline, I have alkaline water at home. They are serving tap water. I offered a taste test, because I had my water jug in the car. First cup of coffee had gunk floating on top, second cup they brought the cup was stained beyond a spill over, I took a drink and put the cup down and then grossed out at what I had just put my lips on. Food was AMAZING! Ordered the chicken fried steak and it was THE BEST chicken fried steak I've ever had. Chicken was fried perfectly, crispy on the outside and tender ch on the inside served HOT! The bed of potatoes also with a slight crunch and perfect texture on the inside. The green chile and sausage gravy crowned the meal together into a flawless concoction and definition of comfort food. This is the saddest review I will ever write in my life. We so badly wanted to love this place. The atmosphere was so comforting and the food looked and tasted amazing. The chef in the open kitchen looks like she's working so hard and I do not want to blame her for what happened, because I don't know the details of the situation. I'm more upset about how it was handled. As a rule I will never argue or be rude to anyone who works in a restaurant, I used to work as a hostess and understand how people can get so upset over small issues. I ordered the avocado toast (delicious) and as I was eating one of the last bites something cracked in my mouth, and i spit it out and it was pieces of glass. I was so embarrassed that I even had to say anything to waitress but we let her know that there was glass in my food and to make sure the kitchen knows just in case something happened that they didn't realize. She said she'd go and let the kitchen and manager know. A few minutes pass and the manager then tried to take my plate but we told him to be careful since there was glass on the plate still and he laughed and took our plate. We were confused but figured he might have misheard me. The waitress comes back, and says that "the manager says he's sorry" and hands us this check. I'm not only upset the manager didn't say that to me directly, but also that the only thing they tried to do to make the situation right was give only my meal a 10% discount. $1.20 off because there was glass in my food. I've never had any crazy thing like glass in my food happen to me at a restaurant and I was so overwhelmed by the lack of any effort on the managers part to make this suck less. I understand it was an awkward situation for the waitress to handle herself, and I'm frustrated that the manager or someone in charge didn't personally come up to me and make sure I was ok. We will never yell or argue with someone in a restaurant and it felt like they took advantage of our kindness and decency. I'm sure if we got angry with someone, something would have changed, but that seems so unnecessary and unfair that it's my responsibility to raise hell for someone to treat me with kindness after they made a mistake. I'm now spending the rest of my day monitoring myself for symptoms relating to ingesting glass and hoping I don't have to go to the ER. Really horrible experience that I hope doesn't happen to anyone else ): and I don't feel comfortable supporting a business that handles a situation like this. I had read about the fried green tomatoes, so it was on my list. My friend had fried green tomatoes and cheesy grits. I had the bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich with fried green tomatoes and pimento spread. It was served with waffle fries. I also had a side of fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese bread. The place used to be a house and felt comfortable in that way. We got the chilaquiles and the breakfast plate with bacon, eggs, and the peach cobbler French toast. The chilaquiles were almost too spicy, but had a great flavor and texture. The French toast was divine. Absolutely sinful. You must get it. I really want to gate keep this gem of a place but I want them to thrive as they're a brand new spot in central EP. The food is 10/10 made fresh and from scratch. The portions are good and the prices are more than reasonable. We ordered the chicken fried steak with country potatoes and gravy. (Insert chef's kiss) the potatoes melt in your mouth - I'm not a potato fan but these are the exception. The egg biscuit is made from scratch, beautiful scrambled egg and not your typical sausage but rather andouille sausage. The coffee is amazing! I love a good bold cup of coffee and they do it right, their menu also offers cols brew coffee which sounded delicious. The owner was present and super sweet and appreciative of our visit.
