Drove over to have lunch yesterday; we walked in the door at 2:40pm and were told we could not be 'seated' because you are now closed for an hour at 3pm; however, we could order 'to-go'. There were only two of us; I was not amused. Rocky would have never turned a customer away. Yes, things change. Since when do restaurants that are open 11am-8pm or 11am-9pm close for an hour? If you can't seat me at 2:40pm then you should update your hours to reflect that you actually close at 2:30pm since I would hate for another loyal customer to experience this absurdity. We have been patrons since the 80's when the original location on Fulton Ave opened, and the Folsom location for 25+ years! Kabob House has been a staple in our lives for date nights, group anniversary & birthday celebrations, wedding rehearsal dinners, etc. Yesterday's experience was not an example of good customer service at all ! I finally had the chance to visit this place after hearing many good things about it. It is located in a nondescript part of a strip mall, so it is very easy to miss. We came in around 6:15pm and there was one group of 4 ahead of us. We were promptly seated and the waiter took our order. The salads and bread that came with the dish were served immediately. We were so glad because the main dish came in 30 minutes later. The food was seasoned well but missing something. I tried sprinkling some salt and voila my dinner was perfect. They also have a very nice outdoor seating with grape vines! This is definitely a hidden gem. read more

The falafel gyro was dry and falafels tasted store bought, the salad that came with the gyro was looking a little withered and discolored. Not for me and wouldn't come back. Delicious & healthy Greek food and friendly staff, especially Nick the new owner who took over the restaurant about a year ago. This restaurant has been a local favorite for 40+ years, and still is. The restaurant has a homey feel to it and has many regular longtime customers. My favorite dishes are the shrimp kabobs and the greek vegetarian casserole (moussaka) with eggplant. They also have other versions of greek casseroles with ground sirloin beef and/or noodles. I just used The Kabob House of Folsom to cater my home party for 15 guests. My family and friends said the beef, lamb, vegatable, and chicken kabobs were juicy and tender and perfectly cooked and seasoned. Salad was super fresh. And the hummus and eggplant (babaganoush) dips with pita bread and baklava were delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant for dine in or catering. read more

Had dinner last night. As always, it was wonderful, service, food, atmosphere.... My go to is Moussaka but my dinner companion was wanting the spanakopita, which was great, and the ground beef skewers. Well, it turns out, they are removing that item from the menu. Our server knew that he was not happy about that item not being available. So, Nick comes to the table and asks him to try the proposed replacement, wanting his opinion as a long time customer. Rocky is a gracious host and his kitchen turns out magic....the Gyro sandwich (a family favorite....lunch or dinner. My hubby's favorite are the Sirloin kabobs.....I will always sneak a bite ;-) I can tell Nick who is "our favorite waiter in all the land"....."my usual" and a giant Garlic Chicken Salad will appear. This is my go to meal at Kabob House....year around. I'm so sorry because these people were so nice to me. However... this is what I got for around $30... The worst falafel I ever tasted, not hyperbole. Instead of a nice crispy outside and soft inside it completely crumbled like dog food, and was very dry. I should've known when I was asked if I wanted a small or large... What? Where was the Taziki sauce that usually comes with it? Dry, dry, dry! Ugh I needed watered to wash it down. There was a sign advertising specials, one of which was the avgolemono soup. Sounded great on a cold day... $14.99. OK I'll splurge... But for that I got what was no more than a cup full. What a rip off! The Greek salad, which I usually love and will even pick it up at Trader Joe's premade, was also the worst I ever had. And there's no joy in saying this... But it tasted like they mix some white vinegar with a little sugar. Traditional Greek salad dressing is more of a Greek vinaigrette containing olive oil, red wine, vinegar, and other ingredients which vary from place to place... Things like lemon juice, earl, oregano, Dijon, mustard, salt, and pepper. I make it myself at home and it's delicious. Their dressing was tart and boring. They need a Greek chef to scour the menu and edit their recipes. If you're going to serve someone a bowl of soup, don't send it home in a tiny plastic container! I will never go back there. You can tell they take pride in serving traditional recipes and not trying to change what works. This was our 1st time eating here and We dined in mid-week and everyone else in there was a regular customer as the service staff and owners knew them by name. That shows they have loyal customers who come back for good food. We had a Greek salad, pita bread, tzatziki sauce and 2 sandwiches. Loved the simplicity of the salad. I have been coming to this location for years with my friend, only for lunch never dinner. The food is good and amazingly consistent. I get solid service and often the owner comes out and greets us with a firm handshake and a smile. The patio here is extra nice. It is under a terrace with real grape vines growing over you. That's special. I always get some version of the gyro lunch since it is pretty nice, you get a greek salad, rice, 3 strips of gyro meat and some sauce for about $11 or so. I have had gyro salads as well, that is also quite big and filling but with less carbs. It's always a treat especially under the shade on a nice afternoon. A Greek salad with one olive. Really? The server doesn't appear to want to be here. It just seems like they've gone cheap. The only option for a side for a gyro is a Greek salad, not everyone has that palate, most people enjoy fries with a gyro. The souvlaki is chewy and has no flavor. Pretty much done with kabob house.
