Very disappointing... should have went to F.O. across the street where you know what to expect. The fish and chips were WAY overpriced in the Halibut Capital for 3 not very big pieces of fish (a fillet cut in thirds), then it was very dry! For $37!! And the chips are very deep fried CHIPS, not potatoes/fries, and no flavor. Kudos to the good tartar sauce. The King Crab fondue was okay. Clearly the base is what they use for their mac n cheese, then they throw "some" shredded crab in there with a 5-6 crostini & celery/carrots on the side. $29. Flavor was meh, didn't feel dynamite for it being "king" crab and the cost! Further, they were out of the first 2 beers we selected, so I had to settle on Coors Light. To boot, the sanitizing spray & rags were RIGHT BEHIND ME on the windowsill!! Like almost touching my jacket on the back of my chair! They kept coming over to get it to clean a table, then put it back, which I could feel and hear, and right next to the water they use to refill waters at patron's tables! Fun craft cocktails, delicious unique food and an amazing view of the water, what more could you ask for? Everyone in town suggested that we stopped by The Kannery while my friends and I were in town and we were so glad we came in! Plenty of seating and no reservations needed at around 4:30 PM on a weekday. The shrimp dumplings were rubbery and had a weird aftertaste. The steamed halibut and cod risotto were pretty good. Halibut tasted fresh but was super bland. Did not try the crab legs so those might be good as well, market price was quoted at ~120-200$ depending on serving size in early August. After a long day of Halibut fishing and being really hungry, we were told about the Kannery. We went and ordered Halibut Fish and Chips. Talk about a disappointment. I don't think this restaurant understands what fish and chips are !!! If you ask anyone, Fried Fish and Fries are what you expect. Well, that's not the case here. We were served three small portions of fried halibut (about the size of a chicken McNuggets) and some really crappy potato chips. Price for this disappointment was $37.00. Thats $10 for each fish McNugget and $7 for crappy potato chips that tasted stale. Service was marginal and ambiance was zero. I won't be eating there anytime soon !!!! read more

An already overpriced meal with an added on 28% tip for a slightly above average food just didn't justify the stop. The Banana Macaw cocktail was creative and delicious. The Campari was a perfect balance to their Banana Liqueur with great rum back notes. The mac and cheese was perfect. My friend's veggie burger was the best I've ever tasted. My other friend's beet salad was the perfect mix of leafy greens, beets, goat cheese and pecans with a light dressing that didn't overwhelm the rest of the salad. Our server was polite and friendly and offered constructive advice about ordering. I look forward to returning to the Kannery when I return to Homer. read more

Burgers dry, pasta overcooked, and why on earth is there a whole potato in the breakfast burrito? Again most importantly, nothing has flavor at all. We came here during our trip to Homer for some drinks and oysters! Our group of 6 all were really pleased with the whole experience. The drinks (and selection) were great, specifically the margaritas were notably well made. Also really appreciated the draft beer selection. Our server was really sweet and prompt and never made us feel rushed. We got a half dozen of both raw and baked oysters and both were 10/10 and a must order. People in our group that don't usually eat oysters really enjoyed the baked ones. I wish we ate here because the other food that came out smelled amazing. read more

We had a great dining experience at the Kannery. Two of us at the tables had cocktails, the Ube bae bae bae and the berserker remedy. Both looked great and tasted great. The special appetizer was a sushi roll with crab and seared tuna which was enjoyed by everyone. Then we did the ribeye, duck fried rice and the kale salad with chicken. The restaurant has beautiful views & and a casually elegant vibe. Gluten free dishes are clearly marked on the menu & the staff appears knowledgeable about food allergies and celiac. The issue is that there's no value for money. The protein portions were way too small in each dish that was served. For $32, one would expect more than 2 heavily battered pieces of fish! Instead the plate was full of chips. Similarly for $42, the quantity of Black Cod was shockingly sparse. The cod, while cooked well was excessively salty when mixed with the Miso sauce. Also, there was no bread / salad or other item served as a starter which was disappointing especially given the prices of the entrees. Finally, the 4% Kitchen Appreciation Fee was an unexpected negative. Overall a decent tasting meal that is highly overpriced. read more

We ate here on a Saturday night and had a bit of a wait but dinner was worth it. I won't be ordering dessert here again though because the beignets they served were not beignets, but just a cake-like dough with caramel on top, and $12 for one small piece of fried/baked (?) cake wasn't worth it. Arrived and the place was packed! Was sat right away since I was a party of one. Took a while for someone to get my drink order. When they came to get my drink order I ordered my appetizer and main meal. 40 min later I got may appetizer. Another 30 min till the main order came. The waitress was apologetic several times for the delay offered me shots from the bar - but I don't drink like that. There were tables that came and left before I got my food. So service was super slooow. The food was good when it did finally arrive. Overall, I don't know that I would return. I spent $89 for just me. No drink ordered. I went here with a friend and we got the crab fondue, bone marrow, and 2 black cod with risotto dishes. The crab fondue was my favorite dish of all. It came with a decent sized portion of crab as well as peppers, assorted veggies, and buttered bread, as did the bone marrow. I could eat the crab fondue every day it's so good. The cod was also amazing and smelled like bacon because of the yummy fried mushrooms. To die for! Would highly recommend. Also our server was amazing however I forgot her name. read more

This restaurant is now known as, "The Kannery" Salmon cooked nicely, slightly salty. Service is amazing, friendly, immediate acknowledgment. Drinks are made with precise measurements. Broccoli blanched and cooked with a crunch and freshness, seasoning is light but has an impact giving them excellent flavor. I never was a fan of smashed potatoes, The Kannery changed my mind. Disadvantage, fry chips are way too crunchy. Almost chipped a tooth. Burgers were good, slightly pink, well seasoned, a little dry. Fish cook well, moist with excellent flavor. read more

What a great find. Our family of three was looking for a place to grab a light meal after walking around The Spit. The craft cocktails were excellent and the food was even better. We had fresh oysters, smoked pork belly bao, and the shrimp dumplings. Everything was perfectly cooked. The pork belly was a standout- rich and smoky, and made nearly perfect with a bit of chili oil. I hope it's just because it's winter but this place was a complete disappointment. They say Asian fusion on Yelp but half the entrees were Italian. The Romain in the Cesar salad was all whole leaves and mostly the outside leaves, and not served in a way that this works. Pretty pricey for the quality. I know it's Alaska and inflation and all but sheesh. No real cool vibe to this place. It seems thrown together. I was really not impressed when we went to pay the bill and the tip options were 20%, 25%, and 30%, of course you can do a custom tip but common that's pretty assumptive to think 20% is the minimum someone might pay. read more

We arrived on a busy Saturday night and were told it would be about a 45 minute wait. The hostess suggested getting a drink from the bar and waiting on the benches. When I tried to get drinks, there was no space between any patrons at the bar so that I could order so I had to wedge myself between strangers. 2 bartenders made eye contact with me but did not offer to take my order. Finally, a third bartender took my order. While waiting for our drinks, it was SO loud from the live music, we could barely hear one other despite shouting and being 12 inches apart. Thankfully the wait ended up being about 20 minutes and we were placed at a high top with nice views. We both liked the cocktails we ordered. For dinner, I ordered the halibut fish and chips which was more like chips and fish. I got a huge plate of chips that tasted like burnt oil and ONE piece of fish...for $32!!! My husband ordered the burger which was rather small and had some odd, heavily smoky flavor. The patty was dry and overcooked. The loud music continued the entire time we were there making it difficult to converse and in my opinion, ruined the ambiance. I honestly couldn't wait to get out of there. The icing on the cake was the 3% "kitchen appreciation" fee on the bill. How about you pay your staff enough rather than passing that off to the customers. We tipped less because of that. My first time having Halibut Cheeks and they were excellent and held up to all the recommendations... this was a truly memorable dish !
