I have known that corner since I was a child: Sorbers and then Max Factor's Pharmacy. When my father went to pick up his Evening Bulletin we had our cherry coke, from the fountain. I've eaten at Kettle several times. Most friendly and accommodating wait staff: never leave you wanting coffee. In the past I have had their pancakes but today I ordered the Salmon and bagel. The dish that appeared was beyond exceptional. The salmon covered the dish. The plate was a wreath of tomatoes and cucumbers and olives and capers surrounding a mound of greens. I've gone to Kettle a couple of times and I've enjoyed my experiences here. You may have to wait for your table--especially on the weekends, but there's a good menu and usually there's special items. Sometimes if people are waiting in line, they'll pull apart the tables and it'll be a little too cramped and close to other tables. We got the blueberry pancakes (can get either 2 or 3 stacks) and the Kettle omelet (made with mashed potatos) with a side of rye bread and home fries. Along with grapefruit juice and coffee. The home fries are a little bit drier and the omelet is a little smaller than I'm used to, but the food is overall good, as well as nice service. read more

I really wanted to keep this place as one of our mainstays, but the last 3 meals there were so disappointing. They stared out with a bang - excellent food, large portions, and friendly service. However, the quality has suffered, prices have gone up, and the staff has become, well, like the staff in most places. Aloof, curt, and disengaged. Got the breakfast hash on my most recent visit, and it was dry and sort of p chunks of meat or potato, and no moisture to bind it. It reminded me of the bottom of the batch popcorn at a movie theater. The BLT&A was skimpy, dry, and had no flavor, and the homemade chips were chewy. The previous visits meal was pretty bad, too. Tasteless, mushy, greasy shrimp and grits, and a shortrib sandwich that barely had meat on it. The prices have gone up, which I absolutely wouldn't mind if the food was tasty. Really sad, because this used to be our go to. Someone told me the one owner entered local politics and wasn't there as much. They could have been great if they had cooked them two more minutes. I hate runny whites. The bacon was meh. The home fries yuck. Not hot and undercooked. Space is tight in this place so expect a wait especially at peak brunch times. I sat at the bar with my friend. Get the corned beef dish! We both got it and couldn't stop raving about it. I got the two eggs over easy with multigrain toast and it was the best breakfast I've had in a long time. We also split a side of pancakes but hey weren't that good. Too fluffy with no actual taste. Seemed like a bisquick mix. I wouldn't recommend the pancakes unless you like something that tastes like instant pancakes. Service was good, and the staff seemed super friendly with each other and customers. Our waitress was an older woman who stayed hustlin'. She was running everywhere and seemed to be doing everything. At one point a waiter and waitress (she was pregnant so mad respect rest and do ya thing gurl) were just standing there talking and our waitress reached around them to dump the used coffee filter and put in a fresh new one. I've worked in food service and know how annoying it is when you're doing things that other people could do if they just looked for something to do. So at times our waitress was too busy to refill our coffees and there would be servers standing right in front of us talking and not even bothering to help a sista out. Still, I would definitely come back here. I wouldn't recommend this place for people with large parties. They would need to move tables together and your wait is going to be a while. Great place for a 2-4 top. Take bar seating if available. Feels a lot less crowded though they do well with the space they have. I will be back for that corned beef! read more

The lovely wife and I stopped in for a late breakfast on Saturday and were duly impressed. At 11am we were seated immediately but just barely as the place was jumping. We were at a two-top which is the most common here. There are also a few four-tops and a small bar. Our smiling efficient waitress brought us menus and was quick to bring us jumbo cups of good coffee. We sipped and perused the menu. I'm an omelet guy so I focused on my choices which were decent. A platter with three fillings, home fries and toast goes for $8. I went with cheddar, sausage and spinach. I was asked if I wanted peppers and onions in my home fries. I did and it was nice to be asked. I wanted wheat toast but was told multi-grain was the closest choice. That was a little surprising but OK. The lovely wife decided on Kettle Rancheros for $10. Replace Kettle with Huevos and you get the idea. This version comes with braised beef. Our food arrived quickly and was plated beautifully. Appearance is important and these plates were impressive especially for Havertown. The wife's Rancheros could have been on a magazine cover. We both agreed that the food was 3.5-4 stars. The over experience was 4 stars. As a Havertownian I'm delighted that these folks are in town! read more

We went restaurant for number of years. The food was okay but service was mediocre. Last time we went had a new server whose service was quite poor so we did not leave a tip. We were followed by the owner and head waitress asking why we did not leave a tip and when we explained they blamed it in the cooking staff. We tried to go back today 4/2/22 after a long hiatus but were refused a table by the head waitress. She claimed that her boss would give us takeout but we can not have a table because they pay their rent with tips. I did not know we were back in the fifties and a restaurant can refuse service because customers refuse to tip. Your tip is learn how to serve better. I will be sure to tell all my friends now to patronize the Kettle. read more

Tasty food -- I loved the veggie scramble, and a really nice atmosphere. My Uncle and Aunt frequent this place, and I can see why. The coffee was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Make sure you remember everything you order, because sometimes the waitresses don't (I'm still waiting for my fruit)! Having driven by this place about a hundred times, and also having heard from esteemed Yelper Steven B and the rest of our wonderful Yelp community about this place, we decided to check it out for Sunday morning breakfast. As we were six for breakfast, we were a little apprehensive about being able to be seated, however, the place is bigger on the inside than it looks and nicely laid out. We ended up occupying a 4 top and 2 top by choice, so two adults could eat in peace while two wrangled the Young Un's. As the Rev. Dr Steak and Pastor Baby Back Ribs gave us the slip last time and got to eat in peace, we decided to, er, turn the tables on them. We were accommodated cheerfully and service was both prompt and receptive. Portions are generous so come hungry. Pancakes are huge, like the size of a dinner plate huge, but light & fluffy. It honestly was the prettiest bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit we've ever seen. It was almost sad when the oatmeal (delicious, steel cut oats, no instant here) was eaten. Creamed chipped beef was given a hearty thumbs up, ranked equal to the reigning metric of Gateway Cafe II, which is high praise. Omelette was also quite good, fluffy, good mix of ingredients. The Young 'Uns ate. That is all. Now, the COFFEE. Really, really good coffee. La Columbe coffee. Coffee that people who love coffee serve. Can you guess it was highly enjoyed? My one and only one ding? Temperature. Uncomfortably warm inside. Not sure if the wall A/C units were functioning properly or what. It was the one dark spot in an otherwise quite pleasant meal. I met up with five of my friends today at 10:30am to have brunch at Kettle. We arrived just after 10:30am and the place was packed. They don't take reservations and we waited about 20 minutes for a table. The food was decent but I live in Bella Vista which has amazing brunch spots and I wasn't impressed. Maybe I expect too much because I am three blocks from the best brunch place I've ever tried (sabrinas). Anyway we all ordered eggs. I had the veggie scramble which the waitress said was delicious. I wasn't impressed. The pesto sauce was fine but I didn't think the eggs were great. As another reviewer mentioned there is something off with the eggs. The eggs appear to be premixed or fake eggs or something. By 12:15 when we were done there was a bunch of people waiting for a table. If you are getting eggs head to a diner where you won't have a wait. Maybe we should have gone with French toast. read more

Sunday morning around 9:30am, walked in and had to wait about 15 to be seated for two people. It is always busy, especially on the weekends. There aren't many tables, so the wait is usually long. I had very high expectations for this place. Anytime I went by it was packed. During warmer months the line goes out the door. This was actually how my husband and I found the brunch at Vida (restaurant 2 doors down) last summer, because I didn't feel like waiting. Unfortunately Vida doesn't do brunch anymore, so last weekend we decided to give Kettle a try. It's a smaller place and there was of course, a wait. After about 20 minutes or so, we were seated My hubby ordered cream chipped beef and it was the saddest portion of ccb I have ever seen. There were 4 triangles of toast and a few sprinkles of cream chipped beef over top. As if this presentation/quantity of food wasn't disappointing enough, the flavor just wasn't there. I ordered the stuffed French toast with peanut butter and bacon. Boy, was I disappointed. The French toast was only cooked on one side - the "stuffed" side just had raw egg all over it (it seemed). There was barely any peanut butter on the whole meal. The bacon was good. Since I'm currently pregnant, I didn't finish the French toast as raw egg is not good to eat - see photos. Maybe in a few months well give this another try, but this was a very underwhelming visit for us In the meantime, we're hoping havertown opens up another brunch place as its needed!! read more

Always a decent place. Solid food but always a wait on the weekends but the place is small and the neighbors come out to consistently to support it so that's all a good sign. Never been there when it hasn't been busy and it's been that way since it opened. A simple, nice place to go with the kids. Also see groups of teens and college age kids here going with friends too. The lunch and breakfast spot in Havertown called Kettle is a neighborhood eatery well worth seeking out. But when you get there be prepared to wait. It's always crowded because it serves up some extremely tasty breakfast and lunch dishes. A recent late lunch here had us all ordering breakfast (I think that sentence makes sense!) The Santa Fe scramble was scrambled eggs taken to a higher level - one occupied by the delicious pork and green chili huevos rancheros. And the bananas foster French toast on brioche was the sweet part of the meal. And if you like potatoes (and who doesn't), place an order for sweet potato fries. They don't come any better than they prepare them at Kettle. We stop to eat at this reliable local restaurant a few times a year. It is always friendly service and good breakfast food. On Sunday, we decided to swing by for breakfast because the wait did not look too long. We waited probably for 20 minutes because there were two tables waiting ahead of us--no problem. But as soon as we were seated, we ordered... our food must have taken 25 minutes or longer to get to the table. One of the tables in the room decided they could no longer wait and asked for the food to go! The puncher is that no one, NO ONE, came to the table to advise us of the delay and our server didn't even acknowledge it with an excuse or an apology! That's what I find most frustrating. One star for customer service. Four stars for food. We have always had good experiences here IF you dine in, in person. Ordering online, not at all. We ordered two omelets and a breakfast burrito for my birthday today (only omelet option available online) for my husband, daughter and myself. When my husband arrived for pickup, he was told, "sorry, our online ordering system is messed up so you didn't get your breakfast potatoes and toast" which, we paid for and are included with items ordered. No offer of a partial refund, or offer to make up some breakfast potatoes and toast while he waited. Just basically sorry, too bad, our online system is messed up, see you later. I just visited Kettle for breakfast this morning. It's a cute restaurant that offers both inside and outside seating of your choice. The inside has a cute cottage charm while the outside was a usual cafe setting. The menu had both unique and classic choices - they even had a light menu. We decided to get one of the more unique items, the Nutella stuffed French Toast decorated with strawberries and whip cream and it was delicious! The cost was sufficient for what you're given - I'd say you could split 85% of the menu with a partner as the portions are fairly large. As for the service, the employees are very quick and mostly friendly, they seem to get people in and out as fast as possible for their demand - and that's not in a bad way. They always scope the area for who has left, hastily clean the tables, and move on to the next guest. The only thing was our waitress took awhile to get back to us after we told her we needed more time to look over the menu. She seemed overwhelmed to host customers, clean, and serve as waitress - which coming from someone who works in food service, it is indeed, a lot to handle at one, giving me the impression that they were understaffed. It wasn't a huge problem though, we just informed another waitress of our wait and she got our waitress for us. Overall, I'd say Kettle is a cute gem to try out if looking for a good breakfast or brunch meal. read more

They took it back and replaced it. although my daughter ordered a short stack and received a short stack of blueberry pancakes. it would have been great if she liked blueberries. Today I wanted to try somewhere new, so my friend and I decided to go to Kettle. We walk in at 1pm, and we ask for one of the numerous 4 seater tables, because my friend is on crutches with a disability. The short haired older woman incessantly tells us that it is the lunch hour and she can only sit us at the 2 seater tables. despite about 3-4 four seaters being available. There was no line, there were a few patrons in there. Even if it's a policy to not seat 2 people at 4 seaters, she should have made a game-time decision to accommodate someone that is disabled. instead of seating us at one of the numerous open tables, she allowed us to just leave. After helping my friend into my car, I walked back in and told her I'd be remiss to not mention how messed up it was to not accommodate someone with a disability. I wanted to give her another option to do the right thing. To which she said, he doesn't have a disability, he is on crutches. Despicable, I'll never eat there again, and I'm considering taking further action to let them know how horrible she made us feel. read more

Finally a cute brunch place in Havertown! The restaurant was small but on a Sunday at noon, we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table (maybe we were just lucky). The menu is small but everyone found something that sounded good. Coffee deelish. Food was good but nothing special. The home fries were scattered on my plate and did not look like they were a full serving. I would recommend they use smaller plates, since everyone's food looked like the portions were too small. Anyway, the service was so unbelievably terrible that I would never come back or recommend this place. Our server was fine, and at a certain point it wasn't his fault, but when the kitchen is backed up (or loses or order.... who knows what happened!) and the server started to avoid us, that's when I start to get annoyed! It took over 40 minutes for our simple BREAKFAST food to come out of the kitchen. How could you be anything but disappointed then? The server didn't apologize, no manager or owner came over to explain anything... so I'm thinking this is the norm for here? Whatever it is, I'd rather make myself eggs and bacon at home than wait an hour for mediocre brunch. read more

There was a little wait, but I'm glad. I was able to take a look around and see what others were eating and look at their faces. I saw some smiles and people pointing to their plates. They looked happy to be hungry. The menu isn't over crowded and easy to read. The waitstaff is ready for you when you are. I didn't feel rushed to grab the first thing off the menu, even though it probably would have been good as my custom omelette. The coffee was great too. I tried The Kettle for the first time Saturday morning. This place was so crowded for a Saturday afternoon!! It was not as good as I anticipated only because of the long line and 20 minute wait. I enjoyed my brunch and had a very friendly server but it wasn't a 5 star brunch to me. I was disappointed that they didn't serve mimosas because they don't have a bar. Their coffee is very good though! I had an omelet with feta, roasted papers and spinach. It was a very big omelet and it was served with a large portion of potatoes. The eggs didn't seem like fresh eggs because they were very yellow. They reminded me of the bag mixture I was served at my college cafeteria. Potatoes stole the show on my plate! They were roasted home fries served with peppers and onions on top of it. If only they had some cheese melted on top... they would be perfect. Next time I come I'm going to skip the omelet and just get a plate of potatoes with cheese! The service was very friendly! I'd come back if I'm in the area with friends. read more

Loads of potential here. I am an omelette fan so naturally ordered one, I was disappointed that it was not "Incorporated," meaning the ingredients were not mixed into the egg, just put into the center and folded in half, kind of like an egg taco. This causes all the ingredients fall out which I hate. Anyway, I'm obviously very particular about that, but it still tasted good. I've had the veggie scramble and it was awesome. The breakfast sandwich on brioche too was very good. The brioche was very soft and buttery, really nice. Saw a few breakfast burritos that looked really good too. That's what I'll get next time. Coffee is great, it's la Colombe so no surprise there. This place is exactly what I've been wanting in the area. It's small so I'd imagine Saturday and Sunday's will come with a bit of a wait.
