Went for brunch/lunch today with my wife around 1pm. They have outdoor seating & were putting away the seating on the Brookline Road side of the place but we chose to sit inside. It wasn't busy at all, maybe 4 other tables were seated. Our waitress, Lynne, took our order & drink order. I order ice water w/lemon & my wife unsweetened iced tea but she returned with just ice water for both of us. For food I ordered an omelette with a side of bacon & my wife ordered a Reuben sandwich. The food was very tasty & well presented on good sized plates; a good value for the price. However, the bacon never made it out of the kitchen with the rest of the food. After waiting a while for it, I had to make a spectacle of myself by raising my hand to get the attention of one of the 5 people behind the counter & finally got my bacon. The toast was one slice of bread cut in half with no butter or jam/jelly. I cannot recommend this place if service is as important to you, as it is to me. Our waitress wasn't very attentive, as a matter of fact, a different waitress ended up delivering our food. Our waitress seemed to be too per-occupied with making sure everything was ready for the 3 o'clock closing. When we asked for the check, we had too wait for that also, and at that point I decided we weren't going to wait to pay her at the table so we walked up to the counter to pay. Simple food done right. The Kettle is perfect for for a quick and delicious breakfast or lunch. I came in around 2 P.M., right before close, and the place was packed. Always a good sign. I was seated promptly and handed a menu by my smiling waitress. It was a bit small, but appropriate for the type of place The Kettle is. I ordered the chipped beef on toast with sausage, a side of fries and a coffee. The coffee was poured immediately and my food came out just as quickly. Everything was perfect. The chipped beef was full of flavor, not bland like some I've had. The coffee, was normal coffee but was in a large mug. More than enough for a breakfast. And the French fries were perfect golden brown. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside without over frying. In fact, they were so good that I ordered an order to go. The price of my meal was all about $10. A bargain for the food and service here. I would recommend The Kettle to anyone in the Havertown area who wants a good meal for a low price in a small, but intimate location. I'll definitely be by here next time I'm in Havertown. read more

Wifey and I had a really nice experience on our second visit. It was busy but the owner took the time to buy cookies from the Girl Scouts outside and offered a few to each table in the place. Yes, it is a small place. Yes, there will be line on occasion. But we have never felt rushed and the food is always spot on. Supply and demand, folks. The Kettle is a small cafe on the corner of Brookline Blvd and Darby Rd. It's a prime location and a pretty cute restaurant. There are probably 15 tables inside and a long bar/counter off to one side. Kettle was recommended by a friend over another restaurant so we came in for lunch on Saturday with my in-laws. They were serving brunch and lunch and we all opted for the latter. Service was painfully slow. Our waitress was really fake and inattentive. It took her forever to get our drinks and she did refill my water glass once through our meal, but didn't refill anyone else's iced tea. She was also really awkward when taking our order. After every single thing we ordered she would be like, "Oh my gawd! It's AMAZING. SO delicious. The best" Uh, honeycakes...how can everything be the best? Oh right. It can't. And it wasn't. Not even close. I got the tomato and avocado grilled cheese and the best thing about it was the bread, which I'm pretty sure was just Arnold's multi-grain. That you can get at any grocery store. Tomato and avocado were under-ripe and flavorless. The fries were decent. MIL got a burger, which she liked. FIL got mac & cheese and the soup du jour. I tried the mac & cheese and wasn't impressed. He liked that it didn't taste over-salted. I thought it was missing a certain sharpness/tang that I prefer when I eat that particular delicacy. Hubby got the turkey bacon avocado. They brought out a BLT w/ avocado. After a bite, he realized something was missing and for some unknown reason our waitress actually appeared and had it corrected. After we finished eating and as the waitress was clearing off our final plates, I asked her if we could please have the check. She said sure and then proceeded to hug every one of her coworkers and the next 3 people who came in the door. Then she had a few conversations behind the bar. Meanwhile, we're all sitting around a table with empty cups. She made side-eye contact a few times while she was conversing behind the bar. She finally brought us our check and then stepped away for another 5-10 minutes. I couldn't get out of there fast enough when she finally processed our credit card. When all was said and done, lunch took over an hour an a half. Thanks, but no thanks. Will not be back. read more

We love this place. We have been multiple times, tried most of the menu, and everything is delicious. My favorite is the breakfast burrito. Also a wonderful kids' menu. I met the owners and their family on my last visit, they couldn't be nicer. A great addition to Havertown eating. read more

I have only had takeout from here due to COVID and the tables for dining in have always been packed, usually with a wait. Takeout brunch was still a fairly long wait and the food did not travel well - it doesn't seem like they have quite gotten the hang of how to package their takeout so the toast was cold and soggy and there was a lot of liquid sitting in the plastic container with my egg scramble. I went here again for lunch with a friend, just to give it another shot and I was much more impressed than I was when I had breakfast before. We sat outside because the place was packed like it normally is and it was actually quite nice. I got the "turkey bacon and avocado" which includes a red pepper aioli (which was incredible!) , the sandwich was big but overall not that exciting.What was though was the bread, i noticed it must have been home made due to the shape and size of the slices and taste. Good job on that one guys! It was also refreshing to find out that they make their own hummus in the kitchen instead of buying it in! Despite being busy our orders arrived in a timely manner and our waitress was very attentive despite having so much to do , i know it can be hard when your restaurant is busy so i really admire when i see the staff be able to juggle everything so well! Excellent tiny little brunch spot! Had the best huevos rancheros I've had since coming back from San Diego. They're covered in tender, juicy braised beef and you get a whole avacado on the side. Was here for lunch on a Thursday so there was plenty of room. Service was good and La Columbe coffee was great. I had the veggie scramble which I enjoyed - loved the addition of pesto to the eggs. My friend had the Kettle Omlette - mashed potatos in an Omlette - what's not to love? Be sure to feed the parking meters as the meter maids are relentless. Ever since Kettle unionized their dishwasher section of the kitchen, I've seen a dramatic decrease in overall quality. The dishwasher employees from a few years back really tied the place together. With that being said, the brother-sister tandem ownership of Conor and Sarah has sparked the community and brought "the boulevard" back to yesteryear. By far my favorite breakfast joint ever. The food is absolutely amazing for the price. My personal favorite is the breakfast sandwich with sausage. They serve it on a fresh brioche roll and cook the egg perfectly, which is a huge selling point for me (God help the person that overcooks my over-easy yolk!). A breakfast sandwich is only $4.50, add meat and it's $6.50. You're never going to find anything of this quality for a better price than that. I've also had their breakfast burrito, which I'm a huge fan of, and their decadent whipped peanut butter stuffed french toast with bananas on top. Be sure to split that with no fewer than 3 people or you might need bypass surgery later in the day. Some people on here have written that the service is bad or slow. The fact of the matter is that this place just opened not that long ago and I'm sure they are still working out the kinks. If you go on a weekend and there is a line out the door, expect the service to be a bit slow. I've never waited for more than 20-25 minutes for food but I am a reasonable person and take advantage of the down time with my friends. Went here after a few recommendations. The setting and service were great. At first glance the menu seems great. However once the omelettes came it was apparent that they are using prepared egg product and not fresh eggs. Or they are premixing eggs. Either way the eggs had no differences in them. There are a lot of breakfast options to choose from. Based solely on the quality of food, Kettle is my favorite. The service is always great too. They have solid yet creative menu and the portions aren't overwhelming. I walked in on Saturday morning before xmas of 2012. All tables were full but there were a few counter seats available, so I took a counter seat. Counter seats sit high, there is a flat screen TV at a proper distance with just a hint of volume if I was interested in hearing the latest injury report on ESPN. My only issue with the counter is that it was flat and my knees jammed into it...forcing me to sit somewhat sideways. PRO: My waitress was friendly. Took my drink order and upon drink arrival took my order. I did the Veggie Scramble with a side order of toast. Wait time....oh, about 7-8 mins. My veggie scramble was a well done simple and tasty as hell. Spinach and peppers were fresh. Cheese was melted just perfectly over and blended velvety smooth with the entire dish. CON: I was very disappointed with the toast order. I ordered rye toast and my waitress brought me multi-grain. Not a deal ender...but, clearly, not what I ordered. The bigger issue for me was that the toast order was only ONE piece of toast---not TWO. I guess I expected two good pieces of bread to sop up that cheesey goodness as opposed to the lonely orphan dough square that occupied the small plate in front of me. The large OJ ran me $4. I thought that was a bit much. OVERALL: Food was good. I would (and will) go back. I would like to try their Chipped Beef and/or their Breakfast Burrito. I saw them both come out on plates. Came here on a Sunday afternoon. The place was packed and remained that way for the entirety of our visit. We sat up at the bar, since two seats were available right away up there. We actually liked the extra space and would sit there again. I ordered two eggs, home fries, and toast, all of which tasted great. I also ordered La Colombe coffee which was excellent. Service was efficient enough. This place needs more room, though. Pretty sure they could have double the space and still have a wait. We waited for about 25 minutes at 12:10 pm on Sunday. Which is a reasonable wait. The tables on the sidewalk were full and the tables inside were also full. We sat on the benches outside the cafe. I live nearby and there is always a good crowd waiting in line to eat. Honestly it was a hot day and I was happy to get seating inside in the air conditioning. The husband ordered his favorite: eggs over easy, sausage, home fries and toast. It's classic fare done right. Real potatoes, good sausage and good bread. I had the tacos with 2 eggs over easy. The beef was so flavorful and tender, ranchero sauce. I really enjoyed it. It was plenty of food for me. I like a crispy corn tortilla I can hold but it was good with a folk and knife My son had the breakfast burrito. It was eggs, potatoes black beans, peppers and more yummy stuff. My son would have rather had no black bean drizzle on the burrito because he wanted to hold it but the drizzle, as well as the burrito were gobbled up. The menu looked good, banana monkey bread, wraps and all the regular breakfast fare. I can see why there is always a good crowd waiting to eat here. I plan on returning. My family and I go to breakfast here about 2/3 times a week time permitting. Great family atmosphere, service is great, and they are awesome with my 2 1/2 year old son. We usually order the same thing every time, two eggs over easy, home fires with peppers and onions wheat toast, my son gets the pancakes of the kids menu, which a grown man would have trouble eating due to the size of these pan cakes mind you it comes with 2, and I get a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel, with a side of plain home fries ( which don't taste like papers and opinions) which is huge because that's the reason I order them plain I don't like peppers and onions and don't want to taste them, this is not a problem here, as other places can't seem to comprehend that concept. Came here today with friends from out of town and it was our first time! Everything was spectacular, from the staff to the food. We got the salmon scramble, chicken and waffles, and the daily specials - bacon+cheddar chicken and waffles, and veggie scramble on cauliflower crust. All dishes were great and filling. I have driven pass this place for years on my way to work. I finally stop to try it out. I was greeted by a wonderfully pleasant waitress. I love great service, and she could have sold me a bag of sun shine and I would of paid for it. My usual is the cheddar grits and shrimp a little expensive but I love it. Today I tried just something basic 3 eggs sunny side up, scrapple, cheddar grits, nothing special for take-out. Looking at the bill vs- the Menu I was charge 4 dollars for 2 eggs, 1.50 for a extra egg, 3 dollars for scrapple , 2.50 for the grits Ok I am not frugal or pinching my pennies, and I would pay top dollar for excellent service. I question the price of the eggs with the waitress vs what I received, the market value of eggs is 1 carton 3.50 average, fine I am cool. I proceeded to work, open my food up to find 3 eggs dam near completely raw granted I am not a cook but sunny side up is with the yolk loose and the rest cook the scrapple completely burnt to the point it wasn't editable. 11.50 was my bill, what did I pay for, for this take out?!? - a full carton of eggs , I don't own - 1 burnt cut of scrapple, I could sand a wall with - a cup of grits :( Lesson learned, despite the one waitress with the beautiful eyes and charm there is no reason to stop! you will get the same type food a mile up at the wawa and cheaper in either direction of the kettle. What really gets me is that I work in King of Prussia and it not in my time frame to drive back... I could of cook this mess at home. Please note I never post things about experience or places... I took the time to post this due to it really was that bad.
