The quality of the food was what we would expect of this restaurant. We had scallops, beef wellington, and veal with greenbeans, risotto, and yams. The yams roasted in miso with lime crema was the only dish that was over-the-top delicious. Wow. Loved the coconut cake, too. The creme brulee taster was just okay. The waiter's discussion of the menu was information overload, and it just made it hard to order. (Were there appetizers for the table? Could we order one of the bone-in steaks that wasn't over 50 ounces?) The staff was a bit over-solicitous and we all roared with laughter when one of our party left the table to use the restroom and the waiter came by and refolded his napkin. The Kimberly is a gorgeous and very special place. From the decor to vibe/ambiance to location, you cannot go wrong. We went recently and definitely plan to return soon. Our server was Tiffany and from the moment we sat down I knew we were in great hands. Literally every plate was incredible, everything was perfectly coursed, wine recommendations were exciting and within what we were looking for...I could go on and on again, but suffice to say, we dine at a lot of restaurants in Austin and I can say Tiffany's service was probably the best we've ever had. She was fully on top of every possible detail. And the food--food was spectacular! Literally everything was so fresh, perfect temperatures, perfectly seasoned. We were so happy with our entire meal. I was fortunate enough to attend the soft opening and can confidently say that this place is going to be a hit. We grabbed seats at the bar and were instantly swept into a spectacular experience, thanks to the bartenders who were as charismatic as they were attentive. Our martinis were executed to perfection: straight up, bruised, and icy cold, just the way they should be. The vibe is sexy, dark, somewhat moody. My friend and I both commented we can't wait to come back in the winter wearing our cozy, cashmere sweaters, and sit near the windows languishing the warmth of the dark interior. We began with the cappelletti in Parmesan brodo, delicately topped with shaved truffles. Silky, savory, and utterly transportive, it was the standout of the evening for me. At just $18, it's a luxurious yet budget-friendly option, especially for a light eater or anyone looking to ease into the menu. The bartender suggested we share the porterhouse, procured from the iconic Fred Linz in Chicago and we're so glad we took the advice. A perfect sear on the outside, charred edges, and a beautifully warm, medium-rare center was sexy steakhouse quality with a refined touch. On the side, the French green beans tossed with blistered tomatoes added the ideal brightness and balance. But the buttery, yeasty Parker house rolls were the absolute star!!! I'd come back just for those and a bowl of the cappelletti. We ended the night on a decadent note with their upside-down pineapple cake, hands down one of the best renditions I've ever tasted. Fluffy, moist and for someone who doesn't have a sweet tooth... I kept diving in for more. The restaurant already runs like a well-oiled machine, and the ambiance is both inviting and elevated. Cool restaurant!. We dined here for my husbands birthday and were excited to have a nice dinner. We were immediately welcomed with a happy birthday by the hostess, and on our table had a card from the team, which was very nice. Our waitress was also sweet and not too overbearing. The food was also delicious and the mac n cheese was the standout. One odd thing that did happen was they did not offer a complimentary birthday dessert. It was not a big deal, but after paying a lot at restaurants like this, a complimentary birthday dessert is usually something that is given automatically. If Morton's and III Forks do that, then this restaurant definitely should be doing the same. Other than that, a good place to have dinner. read more

I had a birthday dinner reservation at Kimberly and was genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had recently, especially for the price point and what was supposed to be a special night. We arrived right on time for our reservation but were told our table wasn't ready. Fine, delays happen. The entrance was packed and chaotic, so we stepped outside and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Once we sat down, no one acknowledged us. Eventually our server came over and we placed a drink order. The drinks were mediocre at best and took over 20 minutes to arrive. The bartender looked completely overwhelmed, which set the tone for the rest of the night. I felt really bad for her. We ordered a salad and a few appetizers first, followed by our mains. After we had clearly finished the salad and had been sitting for a while with empty plates, our server returned and asked, "We about done with this salad so we can get the rest of your food fired up?" It came off as awkward and unnecessary. Most restaurants course meals out smoothly to avoid these kinds of gaps and we made sure that we put in our entire order after appetizers were delivered. The pacing here felt disjointed and poorly managed. Shortly after, it became clear something was seriously wrong with the temperature inside. It was unbearably hot. We mentioned the heat to our server and got a flippant response: "You're telling me! Our AC is out." No one mentioned this when we arrived. No apologies, no attempt to move us, no manager check-in, nothing. Other diners were visibly uncomfortable and fanning themselves with menus. It felt like we were stuck in a packed, overheated waiting room, not an upscale restaurant. By the time our food arrived, the atmosphere was so miserable we couldn't enjoy it. We took a few bites and asked for everything to be boxed. Some food just doesn't reheat well, and unfortunately that was the case here. I was very bummed out about this because everything was actually really tasty. They did comp a few drinks, which was appreciated, but considering we spent nearly $400, that felt like the bare minimum. I left feeling disappointed, physically uncomfortable, and honestly a bit stunned by how poorly things were handled. I understand that restaurants go through growing pains, especially new ones, but basic communication, hospitality, and comfort should not be optional. At no point did anyone let us know the AC was out, and that kind of disregard for guests is unacceptable. I wanted to love this place, but this experience made it really hard to imagine coming back. read more

However, I've now been there 5 times and it's FREEZING every time. 3/5 times I've been there, the tables next to us have complained about how cold it is. We are big fans of Red Ash and dine there atleast 1x/month so were hopeful and excited to try a new restaurant by the Chef and owners of Red Ash - The Kimberly! The overall vibe of the restaurant is more formal and dressy than Red Ash. Some may like that and some may not. The food has a lot of similarities but in my opinion is not as good as Red Ash. We had the following: - YELLOWFIN TUNA TARTARE - Good quality tuna but bland. It needed more citrus and Avocado to balance out the tuna and I did not care for the crisp served with it - SAUTEED JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKE - This was very, very good with almost all crab meat and very little filling which is exactly how it should be but rarely how it is. I really liked the sauce and crispy potato topping. - 10 ounce center cut Filet - Great and very similar to Red Ash - MAFALDINE "CACIO E PEPE" WITH THINLY SLICED SAN DANIELLE PROSCIUTTO - Did not like the noodle served with this dish and was easily beat by the version served at Red Ash. Also was very odd that the Prosciutto was just placed on top in large pieces vs. chopped in dish which would have been better - CAPPELLETTI ALLA PIEMONTESE - This was the best dish all night! Very similar to another pasta dish at Red Ash. Every bite was flavorful and complete and I would go here just to have this dish. Parking: We were able to park on the street right outside of the restaurant for $6 during dinner compared to $30 at Red Ash. Big positive! Bar: Lots of premium liquors, wines, etc. I had two martinis with 2 different vodkas and both were good but they do not put the ice flecks in like other high end bars that charge $20-35/drink. However, they did have hand stuffed castelvetrano olives - yum! We had some odd things happen service wise with the bartender and an issue in the bathroom with the door locking me into the stall so that sort of put a downer on the evening, but overall I think they are just working some kinks out and will give them a bit longer and try again. read more

The cappelletti appetizer was incredible: rich, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the night. The bread service was fluffy and buttery. The shaved Brussels sprouts salad completely surprised me: fresh and delicious. The 10oz filet was cooked perfectly medium rare, tender, and full of flavor. The letdown was the cacio e pepe. Portion was generous, but it really needed more sauce. The noodles weren't dry, just not saucy enough for a dish that should shine with its sauce. It was not close to Red Ash quality. Service was friendly and attentive: they split our dishes without us asking. Only downside was a lag between courses. They definitely do not have the timing down yet. Biggest drawback: the wine list is extremely overpriced. Some great dishes, but with uneven execution and value concerns, it feels hard to fully recommend and frequent often. read more
