Our group has enjoyed ordering lunches every Friday since they opened. It kills me to give a 3 star review. I have been coming here for three years. Generally the food is good, but I have seen a decline in service over the last few months. We asked for the bread to be separated from the burger patty, they added it on anyway and when the counter help saw the ticket took it off the petty which was ready covered in grease. Pickles were not added to the take out bag. These are little things that I can live with. What really gets me is that my food was on the shelf from the kitchen when I arrived, yet it took almost 15 minutes to get it. Yes it was at lunch time, but they placed the grilled cheese as an in house item and this threw everything off. I hope they improve as I have enjoyed the food so far. Not only is the food a delicious stop while biking on the rail trail, but the folks here have HUGE hearts. Our Frenchie was severely overheated from riding in a pull behind on a hot day and they helped us ice and hose him down to bring his breathing and body temperature back to normal. The perfect place to sit with friends. I am especially fond of coming in the summer to sit outside. It is comfortable, and even when it is super hot the location always seems to have a breeze. Okay, I have no idea what happened but the second time there, the exact same meal was quite the opposite. There was barely any turkey on my sandwich, just stuffing and a tiny amount of cranberry sauce. I was expecting the same quality sandwich and it did not meet up to my expectations. It was very disappointing. My friend got a chicken salad sandwich and she said it was on the dry side. After we finished we left some personal effects, a full cup of coffee and a dessert we bought to go, at our table. We didnt want to carry all that stuff while we were browsing entrance at the attached store. Tthere were only two other people in the dinning area so we weren't hogging a table while it was busy. While we were browsing, someone moved our stuff to another table and threw away my full cup of coffee (a large cup). They offered me another cup of coffee but at that point, I was irritated so we left without buying anything from the store. Won't be going back any time soon. read more

Windham Junction is a country store on N. Lowell Rd in Windham. Inside of the store is "The Kitchen", serving breakfast, lunch and weekly specials. We have driven by many times and noticed that there always seems to be a number of cars there so we decided to try it today for lunch. The items we tried included an Angus Burger, a salad of fresh field greens with grilled chicken and the beef chili. All were excellent. Lunch selections include soups/chili, fresh made salads, sandwiches and daily luncheon/dinner specials. Currently, they are open Tues-Fri 6am to 8pm, weekends 8am to 6pm, closed Mondays. Prices were very reasonable and the setting is unique in that the inside dining tables are in the country store. We have traveled extensively throughout Vermont and this place reminded us of many of the small diners and country stores off the beaten path where the "locals" eat. It is definitely worth trying. It is also worth noting that, as mentioned on their website, the store/kitchen is owned by a husband and wife, with Jon (who is Johnson & Wales trained) in the kitchen. read more

We found this quaint eatery just a short country scenic drive off the freeway and were extremely pleased we made the choice. We arrived on a cold rainy night, exhausted and tired from our long drive home from Canada with less then 5 minutes until closing . We thought they would turn us away, but immediately we are greeted with a warm hearted welcomes and smiles. They took us in like soaked ducklings, helped us dry off, fired up the stove and cooked us hearty comfort food. We drank hot tea and chatted up a storm with them like we were family and had always known each other. We dined on, yes, the most creamy rich LOBSTER Mac and cheese you ever ate! One of us had a " From scratch " hand packed hamburger that had your mouth watering and then , mama commented on the even delicious homemade pickle slice that tasted just like the ones she use to can years ago. Rounding out the dinner we had to try the strawberry rhubarb pie! The fruit pie was the finishing touch on our wonderful experience that was piled high with rhubarb grown fresh from the owner's neighbor's garden! You can't get much better then that! You just can not beat this place...we bike on the trail which is right there too and then we eat here...we walk on the trail then we eat here...I know all that exercise and then we eat but you just have to...great atmosphere, great owners, great gifts to shop and great food! I have to say, I keep coming back for the food regardless of the not so great service... The lady that runs the place "Kay" is a little controlling and can get a little nasty at times. My husband and I were eating lunch one day with our toddler daughter at a crammed little table in front of a window, blinded by the sunlight. It was a table with enough room for 2, and that is even a stretch... We saw a bigger table for 4 open up and got up to move over to it. Kay came up the stairs and asked what we were doing, telling us that she had people for that table already and that we had to stay put. We were a little taken aback because we didnt see anyone waiting for a table... a couple minutes later after we retreated back she sat a couple at the 4 seater. 2 people! We were shocked, and it wasnt just because of who she preferred sit there but the way she went about it. She basically scolded us for trying to move over. It was very odd. There were 3 of us afterall. Another time, I took my mother there for lunch and she asked for a cup with ice for her beverage and she was told she would be charged extra. Now, Im not sure how much a cup costs these days, but its not like the food is dirt cheap. She couldn't give an old lady a cup of ice??!! They nickel and dime everything. Another time we were yelled at by her for trying to go out the main entryway during the fall. Apparently it is only open in the summer. However there was no sign indicating it was closed. My husband has since refused to go back because of Kay, I get take out only now, because i love the sippin soups so much. I think its better when I can enjoy the delicious food in the comfort of my own home. read more

Go, you'll enjoy it. Have had lunch many times there. Friends I bring always enjoy it. I've had good sandwiches of all kinds. I leave stuffed - or with half the sandwich to go. The breads are great! The chicken salad is my favorite filling. It is a clean, mom & pop, hometown restaurant that's just comfortable, has comfort food, and is one I chose to return to often. The Windham Junction is great! It's like being at home with someone who really knows there way around the kitchen. I've been there with my teenager for lunch on the porch, for business meetings over breakfast, take out on my own, and hanging out for a session writing or doing my own work. I drive past all the time, as I live in the area. This is really what this area of small suburban towns needs. As country as the town looks, this is literally, just about the only place around like this. I love food and I love experiencing different kinds of foods and the old recipes too. The food here is absolutely excellent. The restaurant has ample seating and the friendliest wait staff. The quaint, antique house is nicely decorated with an antique-hometown feel to it, with mixmatch tables and chairs. They also have great decorations for sale too! I love this place! The food is excellent and I love eating out doors at their picnic tables. It's dog friendly so my dog often accompanies me for an out door lunch or ice cream after a walk on the Trail. When I don't bring the dog I love looking at the gift store. We recently moved to the area and were having our new house remodeled while we were living there. So not having a kitchen made it so we had to order food almost every day. We had heard from a few neighbors about "the junction" so we decided to try them out. Wow! They have a smaller regular daily menu with daily specials which change every week. We ordered the thanksgiving meal sandwich and the angus burger our first time. Burger was cooked perfectly and juicy and the turkey sandwich was a very tasty sandwich. Since then we have finished our own kitchen at home but still end up checking their specials menu every Monday night and are regulars there. My only complaint is that the chef makes country fried steak and bisquets and saw mill gravy that is only available when he does it as a special. It is hands down the best steak and gravy I have ever had and wish it was a permanent item on his menu. Everything he puts together in his specials use the highest grade ingredients and will satisfy any appetite. A+++ and highly recomended if your a local or just passing through. read more
