The Kitchen is adjacent to Helwig Vineyard (on the same property), which was perfect. We had a lunch reservation after our tasting and sat at one of the patio tables. Diners head into the Kitchen, place order and pay, and receive a buzzer device when the order is ready. My husband and I ordered gyros with fries. Friends ordered burgers and quesadillas. Portions are large and shareable. In the case of gyro and fries vs. me, gyro and fries one. The outdoor space is so lovely I'd return just to have lunch. read more

The views at Helwig are STUNNING!! But the service was just a B, and the food was only ehhh. For the price I think there is better food and service at other wineries in the area, probably won't be revisiting, but would recommend someone to come to see the grounds! read more

Our friends suggested we try this place out and we did this past weekend. This winery is a huge property . They must have had a quarterly wine pick up it was pretty busy when we arrived . We were planning to do a wine tasting but they were very busy at the wine bar top , so we just purchased a bottle of the Maestro de Bodega an award winning wine , smooth finish. The Dave burger was absolutely fabulous & even better than you offered a GF bun. Fresh order & hot French fries w/ a yummy seasoning. We were planning to eat on the patio but it was a tad windy & chill so one of your friendly ladies at Helwig said one of the rooms was available to sit at . Definitely not as scenic as the patio view which was spectacular but it was a tad to chill to be sitting in the patio . It was a great visit & we will definitely be back ! read more

Delicious food (ask for the house made hot sauce if you like things spicy), friendly staff, beautiful scenery, and wine available by the glass from the tasting room. I agree with another Yelper that they could reduce their single use plastic use by serving food on compostable plates or containers. read more

You know that Saturday afternoon feeling when your date blindfolds you...kidnapping you to Amador County for a lover's weekend?...okay maybe you don't know that feeling...I was 100% down with that experience though, and next thing I know I'm walking into the The Kitchen @ Helwig Winery. Quickly glanced at the menu and the brisket sandwich was calling me out! Ordered up one brisket sandwich that included seasonal fries and one quesadilla, add grilled chicken. Minutes later we picked up our food order and bam! I Examined my sandwich however I forgot to bring my Yelp Elite food scale and tape measure for this adventure...for those of you wondering it's like a Yelp CSI gear bag for the Elite of the Elites. Needless to say this brisket sandwich and fries was a bullseye today folks. Everything about this sandwich was A plus, plus the brisket flowed together wonderfully with all the ingredients to include fried pickles and I don't even like pickles!The weight and size of this brisket sandwich was like a miniature Boeing 747 it just kept giving and giving due to the amount of brisket deliciousness. Came here for lunch and stayed for the wine. Both were magnificent! Who would've known that this little take-out kitchen could create such delicious food? I ordered the Reuben for $16. It came with House smoked pastrami, swiss cheese and Reuben Dressing on marbled rye, served with pickle spears and seasoned tries. The smoked pastrami came in thick chunks and it was perhaps the best Reuben I've ever had! It was so filling that I could only eat half of the sandwich. The fries were nicely seasoned and it went well with the aioli dipping sauce. Hubby got The Dave burger. It came with a 6 oz burger, bacon onion jam. lettuce tomato. smoked gouda cheese. roasted garlic mayo on a grilled bun. Served with seasoned fries. He said it was one of the best burgers he has ever had! Service was friendly and efficient. Basically you order inside and take a seat outside on their gorgeous patio that overlooks the beautiful vineyards. Our food was ready within 10-15 min. We weren't planning on trying their wine but since their food was so good, we went into their winery and did a tasting flight. We ended up buying a bottle of their Petite Sirah. What do you do when you forget to plan for lunch when you go into a more remote wine country region through the back door? You pull up Yelp and start searching for places before your hangry wife loses it (especially since she is the driver). She was really hungry so she waited in the car until I found out if they were still serving food. It's a large place so it took a bit to find the restaurant when we eventually found each other. I think we were there on a Monday late in the season so there weren't many people around and of course the covid is putting a crimp in wine country visits too. But we ordered from the hostess station and went and found our seat. Great views. A little warm with direct sun but it was away from most everyone else which made me feel better. The food came out pretty quickly and was good. I loved my tomato soup with some grilled cheese sticks. My wife got the tri tip mac and cheese and it was awesome. It tided us over for the rest of our day and journey home. I look forward to returning and having a real wine country experience with a tasting and everything. But I at least know the food is good enough to make it a destination for both! read more

It was an hour-plus wait for a sandwich. If the person taking orders had let us know that, we would have gone elsewhere. The sandwich sounded AMAZING -- grilled cheese sandwich, with pulled pork, and a birria dipping sauce. The pork was tender, but tasteless. The birria had almost no flavor, definitely no spice. We ordered a side of onion rings, which lacked sweetness and lacked salt. The seasoned fries were the best part of the meal. At the end, it felt like a waste of time and calories. Chicken pozole. Soup is good but not worth the $12 for such a tiny portion. Talked to the manager who's said " we don't want to fill it so the lid won't fit" and " we'll it is just a "cup size ". . The Dave and the brisket tacos were excellent! Would definitely return. Comments: As a visitor to the area, I enjoyed the amazing view, overlooking the vinyards. Not so much the topiary and new trees, which were an obstruction. Also enjoyed the quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. Not so much, the piped in generic playlist. Yesterday my wife and I stopped at The Kitchen @ Helwig. The food was very good, maybe a little pricey for what you get. The menu has a few different items to choose from - look at the menu before going so you know what is available. The outdoor patio offers plenty of shade from the sun and has probably the best view from a winery in the entire area. read more

First off, we love Helwig tasting room! This is a great option for those traveling through the area. We had a wonderful tasting, then headed to the kitchen. I have a ton of food allergies - the chef worked around all my allergies and made a FABULOUS Dave's burger bowl that I could eat. My husband had a sandwich and fries. Looked yummy! First, Helwig has great wine. Today, though, we didn't come for wine, we came for lunch. What should have been simple, was very disappointing. A Caesar salad with "crispy chicken", since they were out of grilled chicken. (My first clue something wasn't right.) As soon as I saw the crispy chicken, I could see it was spicy. And one taste told me it was spicy, over salted and probably pre-cooked. I took all the breading off and the chicken was still spicy and salty, not to mention, dry. Then, I noticed how little Parmesan cheese there was. Oh well, lesson learned. read more

Beautiful venue, and the 'kitchen' provides some decent food, HOWEVER they use FAR, TOO MUCH PLASTIC. I was there last weekend, and I witnessed dozens of large, plastic containers being used for lunches. It is such a wasteful 'to-go' container, and nearly everyone dumps the potentially re-usable container into a garbage can when they are finished eating. Helwig should replace this plastic container with either re-usable trays and/or paper containers (yes, I realize that paper comes from trees). Another idea would be to have customers return the plastic containers to the 'kitchen' when finished. Just come up with a BETTER solution, and reduce your environmental footprint, Helwig). read more

It's fun to find a really good eatery in my own neighborhood, and The Kitchen@Helwig Winery serves some of the best lunches I've had in a very long time. The food is quite a treat! I first had the Dave burger, and liked it so much, I didn't order anything else for several visits. I then tried the Stacked French Dip: the meat was wonderful and plentiful, and the au jus was the best I've had. Recently, I really enjoyed the Texas Style Slow-Smoked Brisket Sandwich and, as a Texas native, I can attest to its authenticity and deliciousness! Taco Tuesday's is now a favorite lunch day of the week, with its $1 street tacos. The meats of all these dishes are plentiful, tasty and exceptionally well-prepared. FYI, I noticed they do offer vegetarian and vegan options and while they do try to offer gluten-free substitutions, it's not a gluten-free kitchen. Okay, I've made myself hungry! Tomorrow, I'm going to try the Sliced Pork Belly BLT. Yum! read more

This review is based on food and ambiance only. Passing through on a holiday motorcycle ride, my stomach was telling me that a pit-stop was needed. Thought that the burger would be too messy to eat standing in the parking lot, so I went with the buffalo/blue cheese wrap. The $14 price seemed a bit steep at first, but then I realized that it came with a ton of fries, so everything seemed fair. Just standing on that hill waiting for my wrap to be made was a bit of a zen experience - especially during these Covid time times when nobody else was around. These types of experiences build off of one another and The Kitchen @ Helwig is going to be a regular motorcycle pass-thru for me on the way to the mountain roads. read more

This is a new restaurant located at the Helwig Winery. The serve lunch only and are open from 11-3 daily. They have a beautiful location with several outside seating areas and great views. The menu offers burgers, sandwiches, salads and wraps. We had the pulled pork, smoked brisket and the Cuban sandwiches . All the sandwiches were excellent and each came with a generous serving of beer battered fries. The beer battered fries were the best french fries I have had in a very long time. You order inside and are provided a buzzer announcing when your order is ready to be picked up. There is no table service. This is a great place to have lunch while doing wine tasting in Amador County. We definitely plan to return . read more
