Went here last night-Came out to the Preston castle for a historic flashlight tour (so much fun! Definitely recommend), but we decided to give this place a try for dinner- looked cute, but man- the service was bad, so slow. Orders were messed up and seemed like the waitress was trying, but then disappeared at times, like when are food was finally ready and then when we were waiting for our check. just not a good choice, will not be back and do not recommend. My burger was cold., probably because it sat on the counter forever, while the cook slowly cooked the rest of the order..when finally delivered... bad overall. And found out later that the 10% discount the waitress said she was giving us because our order was so bad, she ended up not giving us and added a tip on for herself. read more

I had to stop by because of the name, but after one visit this became my husband and I's favorite breakfast spot (EVER). The biscuits and gravy will change your life. Maybe I haven't gone deep enough in the South, but these were the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had; chunky gravy, fluffy biscuits, and enough savory flavor to keep you talking about them for years to come. 20 of us made a little road trip to Plymouth this morning for a nice breakfast. They had a nice area all set up for us and our server was right on top of getting our drinks and menus. I had the Marlene's Special which is 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, a wither bacon, sausage or ham. It's BIG and comes on two plates. The pancakes are BIG and fluffy delicious. I ordered my eggs over hard and the were perfect. The bacon was also big and tasty. The restaurant looked to be filled with lots of locals and is very comfortable inside. Then after 30 minutes and no one taking our order we decided it was time to go. Coffee was good and hot. But service and timeliness poor. What a pleasant little diner stop for lunch while traveling through Plymouth. We stopped through yesterday to grab a bite while waiting for our scheduled wine tasting at Scott Harvey. When we walked in, we were allowed to pick our seat at a booth in the corner and also unexpectedly ran into one of Paul's friends there who was out on a motorcycle ride. How fun! Must mean we found a good place! We were brought giant mugs of ice water and we put in our order. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($16) which was on a fluffy brioche style bun, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo. It also came with a big portion of fries, I chose beer battered, yum! They were super crispy and hot. The food was all served hot and fresh. The chicken on my sandwich was actually two chicken strips versus a chicken fillet, but it was still good. Paul ordered a western burger ($18) with beer battered fries and it was HUGE! Stacked with onion rings, bacon, and BBQ sauce on the same brioche style bun. Pickles tomatoes red onion and lettuce was also on the cheese burger. I tried a bite and it was well seasoned meat and used the "good" bacon. He swore he wouldn't be able to finish it but he did. Ha. The restaurant is Coke and CA Diner themed. There's an old jute box in the corner that I don't think is plugged in but I would love to see it light up. The server was so nice and helpful. Four of us stopped for breakfast at 8 on a Sunday. Our server Jen was on it and very helpful. One of us had the waffles and they were very tough and could not be cut with a fork. My sister who has been making waffles for many years says it because they mixed the mix to much. Jen appreciated knowing that but the cashier wasn't so open to hearing any advice. We stumbled upon this cool diner style restaurant while exploring the area for breakfast. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waitress was friendly. We ordered the Bat Beni (Bacon, avocado, tomato Benedict) and the Chicken fried steak with a side of biscuits and gravy. While it did take quite a while for our food to come, there are a lot of interesting things, including the story of how it got its name, "Dead fly Diner", to read and look at to pass the time. The food was tasty, well seasoned. Hash browns were cooked perfectly, crispy outside, tender inside. The Bat Beni was a little better than ok. The poached eggs were more like soft boiled, even after the waitress had asked me how I would like them cooked. My reply; runny yolks. (Isn't that what "poached eggs" are? The rest of the food was good. Coffee was good too. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. The nostalgic decor (jukebox and all) and the story of how it came to be, along with some good home comfort food are a couple reasons why. read more

I'm honestly thinking of opening a funeral home next door to capitalize on the sheer number of people who must pass away to the next world while awaiting their omelets and toast. If you're planning on a nice Sunday breakfast, take your seat by Thursday at the latest. There's order tickets hanging in the kitchen from the Reagan presidency. How many tips are these poor girls earning from skeletons? In all seriousness I honestly can't fathom the high number of positive reviews. My family and I have been here several times and each time was more or less the same experience... inexplicably MASSIVE wait times. We came in one morning at 8.30am. There were maybe 6 other people in total. An HOUR later and we still hadn't even had a glimpse of the food. There were plenty of other tables also looking as hangry and bemused as us at the ridiculous wait. I clearly heard one lady say "what the f--- is taking so long" to her frustrated but polite husband. We are local and have had this experience every time (7/8 visits). We kept going back to give it another shot as we love to support local. We had been avoiding it for months lately but recently gave it another shot as it was half empty and we were optimistic. We will never come here again. The wait staff are friendly and hard working and are great people trying to do a solid job. The cooks also seem like great dudes, honestly. But HOLY MOLY I (and most people) have a life to live and don't have 2.5 hours to spare for a simple breakfast. The owners will take to Facebook to tell you it's because the food is fresh and cooked to order. My man, this isn't a Michelin starred restaurant it's a cafe on a traffic circle. How fresh can a sausage link really be? Your customers aren't cranky or impatient, your service is just poor. Seriously. Come here if you have a huge amount of time to waste. I've been here twice before and the service was great, the restaurant was clean, and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, after the change in management, the service was horrendous, the restaurant was sticky and gross, and the food never arrived. Buckle up, this review is not gonna be pleasant. Myself and three others drove down to Marlene and Glens after a fun-filled weekend of wine-tasting in the Shenandoah Valley - it was breakfast time (10:30 am) and we were starving. We walked in and were told to sit down anywhere we'd like - the place was packed, but there were quite a few empty tables. The table we wanted to sit at was still quite dirty, so we sat at an adjacent, kinda cleaner table. I pulled out the chair and saw syrup spilled on the plastic cushion... I told myself "that's alright," as I swapped the syrup chair with the chair of the still quite dirty table to the left. After we received the dingy, sticky menus and made our selection, our waitress began to take our orders - she seemed like she was in a huge rush, as she rushed and pressured us to hurry and make our selections... "that's OK, they're just busy" I thought to myself. I ordered coffee, orange juice, and water. As we ordered, the three tables which were empty filled up - they were also ordering. Fast forward 20 minutes: our waitresses never came to check on us. Our coffee cups were empty. The table next to us was in the same boat, no coffee in their cups as they had been there for around 20 minutes as well and had drank the coffee. I look ar our waitress, she and two other waitresses were assisting this table of around 8 people who came in after us - they seemed to have spilled water - while all three were chatting with the 8 people at the table, us 4 and the other table of 4 next to us who shared the unfortunate fact of being without coffee in our cups began to joke about not being served. I raised my hand in hopes one of the waitresses would see me, and ask me if anything was needed - my hand was up for 5 minutes. One waitress looked over and looked right at my hand, and looked around like she didn't just stare right at me. After that, I look over at the other coffee-lacking table and we laugh about how we need coffee bad and how it had been almost 30 minutes since we ordered. My hand continues to be raised, no one is even looking in my direction. I had enough. I got up and went to the bar and kindly said "hello, could I please have more coffee and vanilla creamers? It seems no one saw my hand raised for 5 minutes so I decided to walk up instead of waiting any longer." The waitress apologized, grabbed a pot of coffee, refilled our coffees, as well as the table next to us - the kind lady at the table thanked me for getting up and asking for more coffee, as she also had been waiting for 30 minutes. 20 more minutes go by, and since it has been almost an hour at this point, we are looking around at what the hold up is, as nothing had been communicated to us regarding our order. We look around and see the table of 8 and a table of 2 who both arrived after we ordered had all of their food before we did. Our waitress comes up, and my partner asks her "Hey, is something going on with our order? It seems those tables over there received their food before us, and we came in after. Do you know when our food will come out?" The waitress abruptly and sharply replied "So... I don't order for those tables, those tables aren't on this side of the restaurant so I don't know anything about those tables. And i dont know when your food is coming out. Mkay?" After that unacceptable and rude response, we lost our appetite and the 4 of us were ready to leave. We all got up and went to the front podium where guests are greeted. We noticed the man at the front podium was the same man at the large party of 8! That was his family - they fed their large family party before customers... this explained why it took so long. We expressed the situation and unacceptable response from the waitress to the man - he didn't even apologize, he only bleated "WE ARE BUSY." We weren't even rude, we were just explaining what happened and how we were here last time and didn't have this same experience. We quoted what we were told by the waitress and the man, without apology, attempted to once again explain the situation, as the waitress finally tells us "your food is about to come out." We were dead set on leaving after this terrible service and gross, sticky restaurant. As we left, the man shouted "OH, SO YOU'RE GONNA WALK OUT ON THE CHECK??" As if we were going to pay for the food we never received. It was gross. We will never return. Anyone have any recommendations for brunch in Amador? Marlene and Glen's diner is a great way to waste your time, so we gotta find another place cause I don't like my time being wasted. read more

This place is a true throwback. And its history is rich and oddly fun. Our server was alone on the floor at 7:45 am, attendant to nine tables (32 guests) by my count. I wish I'd asked her name. She was welcoming, friendly, attentive and organized. She even took a minute to explain her interest in my cap (it's a Minnesota thing). We noticed how the "regulars" would walk in and help themselves to utensils, napkins and menus before seating themselves. We ordered our food from the extensive menu, then waited a short 14 minutes for it to arrive - piping hot. Everything was as hoped. The coffee was piping hot and delicious, as were all the food items. It was a rare treat to get good, crispy hash browns. We live full time in Mexico and visit Gold Country often, where family have settled. So, we'll be back. As soon as possible. And when we walk in, we'll grab our napkins, utensils and menus before we seat ourselves. Well done, y'all! read more

We visited Plymouth for the first time and ate at the Diner twice - for breakfast and lunch. We could sit where we wanted, the server was great and the food portions were huge and delicious. We cannot possibly see how the Chef can keep track of the unbelievable number of items they have on their incredibly diverse menu. If you go away hungry, it's your fault. You will be amazed to see the service provided by Jessica. She was attentive, very cheerful and made sure we were happy with our entire dining experience. The Bus Person was incredible too. He got us seated immediately, got our water, our napkins, our utensils and drink order. He was hustling helping everyone in the diner the entire time we were there. Just about the worst service I've ever had in any type of restaurant anywhere. We waited 10-15 minutes after being seated for a waitress even come to bring us water. When she did finally come, I was asked if I wanted coffee and I said yes. Another 15 minutes, went by before I had to get the waitresses attention to bring me some coffee, as she had completely forgotten. We then waited another 30 minutes for our breakfast when it finally came. I said that one hour wait was unacceptable and ask them to comp our meal. I was informed that it had only been 57 minutes. The waitress was going to supposedly talk to her manager, but never did and just assumed we were going to pay for our meal. I did not appreciate her attitude, needless to say I will never come back to eat at this place. read more

Oh man, here we go with another borderline cussing review! Had to do an edit based on some of the other reviews (negative reviews) I read. My "review" (in quotation, because my writing is more of a critique, opinion, banter; because I'm definitely NOT a professional food or restaurant critic whatsoever) is more or less how I assess my personal experience. Our experience is based on a phone order and pick up. Called in and ordered, lady said 18 minutes. Got there in 15, waited another 5 minutes and bam food was ready to go. So +1 for exceptional timing. CONSIDERING they were packed!! In the 5 minutes while waiting over 12 people came through those doors and got sat right away. Fyi. Here we go... Good God almighty, what a find! 20 minutes from where we live. This is a bfast spot that is simply put, awesome. Plymouth is like this small ass town part of Amador county directly due east of Rancho Murieta. Speed limit says 55, but as Sammy Hagar once wrote "I can't drive 55." 65-80 we are there in a lickity split. GPS said 20 minutes, we were there in 15! Upon walking in you see hella white folks, you know them white folks know how to cook a mean ass breakfast, so you know its gonna be effin amazing. The smiles and the warm reception was awesome. Everyone that resembled to be a staff was working there ass off. In fact, I think I saw a 10 year old working too hahha. Went in with just 2 of my kids, left the youngest one home with mom. And my kids loved it! The decor is definitely old school and shows the style of the town. I think they like horses and rodeos :). We ordered (1) Chicken fried steak with hashbrowns, eggs over medium and English muffins. (1) Pokerville omelette for the wifey and (1) Bacon omelette for the 3 year old who LOVES bacon and my oh my was it filled to the brim with bacon. Seriously, they are not shy in filling up there omelettes wi bacon. Quite frankly, this was one of the best breakfast we have ever stuffed in our faces. So good so filling and YES super reasonable pricing. Cool ass waitress gal says she's been there for over 25 years, and with a menu like they have and the small town feel, it's definitely the place where one would work for a long time. The first thing we asked for was the cocktail menu and lowen Behold, they no longer hold a liquor license. 1ST strike.... we noticed the menu prices have definitely increased. Strike #2.... The food was mediocre, nothing like it used to be for sure. Strike 3!!! YER OUT!
